Best photo/character book of the bicycle
This book has the best most diverse photos of bicycles of any ever. Also some fine writing and insights. The only big photo spread I've ever seen on road-side emergency repairs. Bravo! Also plenty of coverage of bicycle alternatives, which diversity is what bikes are all about in the first place. Bravo again! This book should be kept in print, in libraries nationwide. Richard's Best Book, 2nd ed, should also have never been let go (it has the best bike ART in any book).

VERY POWERFUL WORDS OF WISDOM
Once I saw this book advertised, I remembered the author's name as the man who made the super motion film "Ghandi" and I know that it was going to be a good book. I must say that I am very pleased wityh it and these words of wisdom can really be put to use in our daily lifestyle and help improve ourselves to become better persons regardless of religion or ethnic background. These inspiring quotes are well documented in appropriate sections such as : Daily Life, Co-operation, Non-violence, Peace, Faith etc. I would like to leave you with one of these valuable quotes for your kind consideration.
"I have learnt through bitter experience the one supreme lesson; to conserve any anger, and as heat conserved is transmuted into energy, even so our anger controlled can be transmuted into a power which can move the world."
Comparable to Proverbs
It is like the Book of Proverbs in the Bible. Gandhi's seemingly superhuman insight on virtue is indeed deeply moving. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to hear many of the words of the wisest.

Provides quick, concise info for ya librarians and teachers
A much-used title in our vocational high school library, every teacher who has checked it out wants their own copy. It has provided quick reference for the student who asks for the "thin" book--whether the book report is due tomorrow or the because the reader has difficulty with longer texts. I wish every young adult title came with this kind of information!

This comprehensive book examines all clean air technology.
The work is a little dated; however, the technology in theory has not changed in decades. I would recommend this book to anyone who practices in the environmental engineering field.

Great Resource
I have used this book and the questions for review for several years in a junior high classroom. Some questions were very hard, but it did keep the student thinking. The questions were set up by point for hardness making it a no brainer for using easily in the classroom. High school level would be perfect. I used it for review before section tests. The kids loved it. It got them thinking deeper (yes, I would stop and "debate situations and answers). Every 7-12 US History teacher should have and use this.

J'utilise ce livre dans ma classe de français!
I use this book in my French class. It's the book mon prof uses to test us. I think the listening exercises provided in here are wonderful. The other exercises are good as well. The vocabulary provided in the back is also very good. It's an excellent prep tool for anyone in AP French language. Bon chance!
Bette Davis: Film Star (Library of Famous Women Series)
Published in School & Library Binding by Blackbirch Marketing (1994)
Amazon base price: $19.95

An excellent juvenile biography of film star Bette Davis
Although I was surprised that it was Bette Davis rather than Katharine Hepburn that was the focus on the Film Star volume in the Library of Famous Women, Gene Brown does turn in an excellent juvenile biography. The key is that Brown does not simply provide biographical information about Davis, but keeps the focus on the significance of her career. Brown argues that Davis was the first woman who played roles that portrayed women realistically, which is certainly something worth noting. Young readers will also learn about the Studio System, which represents an entirely different world of making movies than what they hear about today. Brown also pays attention to details, such as the way Davis used her body, that made her stand out as an actress. It is because Brown understands about films and acting, that elevates this book. I certainly might wonder if young readers have seen any films starring Bette Davis, especially since so few of them ended up being made in color, which is often a prerequisite for viewing by kids today, but I have little doubt that if they read this book they will be interested in seeing some of her work. This book is illustrated with mostly black & white publicity shots from Davis's films, as well as a few color shots, including one of her made up as Queen Elizabeth for "The Virgin Queen." Now if Brown would just do a book like this about Hepburn. Other volumes in this series look at Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, Mother Teresa, Painter Georgia O'Keefe, Anne Frank, and Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Everyone who owns a bike should get this, especially if you're just starting out. It is really what got me started off, now I own my ultimate dream machine and I still refer to it now and then. You see so many riders out there with incorrectly set up bikes. The three things I can notice from about 100 feet away are: their seat is too low; their chain is insufficiently lubricated; and the derailleurs are not adjusted properly. This book will teach you how to set up your bike correctly, and provide you with essential knowledge on cycling.
This has all the info in it for beginners and intermediates alike. The main sections are: mountain bikes, racing bikes and touring bikes, future bikes and cycle maintenance. Within these pages, you'll find info about bike set-up/positioning, sizing of frames, clothing, riding techniques, racing and stretching. Plus more info on other specific bike parts, such as: frame construction, types of wheels, gears/brakes, etc. Also specific info about various types of bikes used in: observed trials, the tour de France, criterium races, time¨Ctrials, triathlons, track racing (& classic bikes).
The maintenance section is quite extensive, and will generally be adequate for most people's needs. It covers tools (and there's a lot!), wheel truing, fixing flat tires, adjustments for comfort, brakes, chains, pedals, derailleur adjustment, and cleaning/lubrication.
There are plenty of good colour photos, it is well written and very informative - what more could you ask for? If you haven't actually flicked through this book and you're still having doubts about getting it, go to your local bookshop and just have a look through it, you'll see what I mean. All in all a very comprehensive guide to cycling - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for youngsters and/or beginners.
