The Definitive Reference to the Navies of the World
This is what the navy brass utilize in studying the ships and navies of the world. It is a thorough and excellent reference to the bluewater navies of the world, but high on the price tag. It is packed full of relavent statistics, data and information for any military enthusiast. Admittedly, my review refers to a slightly older edition. But Jane's consistently proves itself to be better and better year after year.

Great Book!!!
This novel begins with the one of the main characters Kit Castle. Kit is also the author of the book. This novel tells how she adjusts to life of multiple personalities. The novel novel contains the story of the "others". Jess is the only male personality that there has ever been. Penny Lavender is the depressed personalityalso the artistic. Liz too was depressed, she killed her children and spend most of her life in mental hospitals. Kitty Rosetti was the one always in control and knew about the "others". Me-Liz considered herself to be the virgin one and developed a spiritual life after emerging. Little Andrea was the baby, and hardly ever came out in public. Not all of the personalitites now about each other. What would happen if on of them fell in love with the other?
The novel was great reading. I found it interesting that Jess could fall in love with Kitty. It became clear to me why sometimes people can become judgmental. The novel taught me to just never take things as they seem because sometimes it is not so. I think that an older teen may enjoy the novel more and understand it too. It contains alot of different emotions.

Exciting Approach to History
A great new approach to civilizations. It starts by developing a genetics foundation for civilizations and then develops a math theory with lots of explanatory diagrams that show an amazing pattern that all civilizations seem to follow - not just European and Asian civilizations but also isolated African and American civilizations. This incredible theory predicts the general future of civilizations. It seems to have predicted recent trouble areas such as the Mideast and the Far East. It describes the dynamics of interacting civilizations and cultures. It predicts the response of human civilizations should SETI contact an ET civilization. A great book. It covers all bases on civilizations. Actually makes a great reference book since it covers the history of most of the world's civilizations.

Plain-spoken poetry
Damaged by war, looking for solace and overrun with hormones, W.W. Windstaff (or so he calls himself) is a casual observer to post WWI city life. His text is real and alive. His words carry a soft cynicism and lyric but brutal honesty. We never know his name. Doesn't matter, he has the versatility one learns from desperation. He is anybody from nerve racked fighter pilot to well kept whore. His simple and natural character brings to light the humanity behind the images surrounding him--Hemingway is a whining brute with a gift for terse prose, Gertrude Stein an over ambitious skirt chaser, and his best friend can't remember how to grow up. Windstaff's writing is real and conversational. I can almost imagine a gruff but still handsome older man leaning in front of me, his hand creeping up my knee, whispering,"This is how it is". He likes truth. Wandering Europe, giving in to base sex and good alcohol, he still keeps his guard-avoiding the artistic lif! e but unable to resist those that create it. He is a drunk with a reality fix, sick of the superficial city but believing in the moral to any story. Yet,through all his dirty, backhand and heroic experiences he maintains an innocence I admire. This is the man women want to change, never do and love them more for their stubborness. This book is above all dignified. No wonder God chose us over the angels.

A seminal book about a little-known WWII campaign
A seminal book about a WWII campaign that achieved nothing of strategic significance except to boost Gen. MacArthur's personal standing as well as diverting US military forces from a direct thrust at Japan. Oddly enough, only military operations from after Operation Cartwheel, which included the bloody Buna campaign, is covered. Interested readers on the related Australian operations including the Kokoda trail, as well as follow-on operations in the Philippines will have to look elsewhere. A clear prerequisite for reading and enjoying this book is to have read "American Caesar" by William Manchester which gives the background to the complex relationships between all the personalities involved. The almost deadly duel between MacArthur and Admiral King over overall strategy and logistics is highlighted, with Admiral Nimitz being pushed into the background. The race between MacArthur's and Nimitz's rival thrusts towards the Japanese Empire being one of the main themes here. The book constantly harps on MacArthur's obsession with getting back to the Philippines. Thus, in his race to beat the US Navy to the China-Luzon-Formosa area, MacArthur is criticised for moving too fast up the northern coast of PNG before securing his bases for staging the next amphibious landings. He doesn't appear to have endeared himself to the men doing the fighting but achieved his objectives in record time and with remarkably low casualty rates for the whole campaign. As MacArthur did not know about the Manhattan Project, he cannot be faulted for his strategic planning based largely on the then known technology as well as current US military capability. As it was, the atomic bombs were the strategic weapons that decisively ended the Pacific War. This remarkable book goes somewhere towards setting the record straight and giving due credit to the many forgotten servicemen who performed gallantly or gave their lives in this little-known campaign. The maps are clear, concise and relate well to the text.

A unique and much-needed book on the RCAF
Steve Fochuk has done an excellent job on a difficult to research project. While the USAAF is famous for its "nose-art", by which is usually meant the embellishment of drab, camouflaged military aircraft with personal artwork - cartoons, beautiful girls, etc, the RCAF is not known for having much of this artwork. Yet, it was there, on the Spitfires, Lancasters, Halifax's and all the many other aircraft operated by the RCAF. Some of the artwork was so outstanding, that some panels from scrapped aircraft were saved for museums, and Steve Fochuk has included some colour photos of these originals in his book. For all those who say "only the Yanks had artwork on their 'planes, we can now refer them to Steve's excellent book.

Wonderful book
I am reading this book, Moral Conflict, and I recommend it very highly. Intercultural conflict in today's rapidly shrinking world is almost inevitable. The authors bring many practical models which help increase one's options in resolving conflict situations. I VERY highly recommend the book.

Wham, bam, crunch!
Lovers of the hard-boiled genre of crime fiction have something to cherish here. Steve Holland crafts an amazing overview of the British crime paperback as published in the days after World War II. A copy of this book belongs on the shelf with PAPERBACKS U.S.A.
