Excellent, thoughtful, and Inspirational
This book is truly inspirational. Happiness is sought by everyone, but we unfortunately rarely completely find it. This book leads you to a path of self-discovery to find the Unique worth of yourself. God did not intend for us to be unhappy, but all too often we are misled to believe that God wants us to suffer. The insights into Happiness are truths that have always been out there, but we mostly overlook them or pay little attention to them. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent And Inspiring
This book is a must-read for inspiration in the Christian life. Happiness is what we all strive for-but unfortunately rarely find. This book is an inspiration in finding truths about Life that have always been there, but we routinely overlook them. God did not intend for us to be unhappy and miserable. This book leads you into a journey of self-discovery to find True happiness that can not be destroyed by events that take place in our lives.

If it's serenity, reassurance in an uncertain world, and inspiration (without pressure) you seek ... then this is the book for you! This book affects me like a dose of Prozac. When I am having rough times and am up late worrying, I always open up 'Happiness that is Guaranteed' and end up sleeping like a baby. Don't miss this one. TOP NOTCH STORY TELLING
I uncovered this classic by pure chance, but enjoyed every page. Barton is wildly inventive and his love and respect for golf comes through in every tale. The stories are smoothly written with engaging characters and situations. I'd very much like to see what kind of work Barton would produce working at novel length. Great stuff.

Blends fantasy with golf gaming enthusiasm
On The Fringe And Other Uncommon Tales Of Golf by Gregory G. Barton is an eclectic and adventurous anthology of fourteen off-the-wall tales of life, golf, and mystical mysteries. From the hidden secrets of the Bermuda Triangle, to what it's like to have a clairvoyant caddie, On The Fringe And Other Uncommon Tales Of Golf blends fantasy with golf gaming enthusiasm for a unique experience which is enthusiastically recommended for golfers who are also connoisseurs of original and inventive storytelling.

Barton Scores a Birdie!
What a delightful collection of golf stories! Each chapter transports the reader to a unique period in time and on occasion, a different planet. These gentle stories are very sweet. Upon completion, the reader will feel as though they just finished eating chocolate chip cookies straight from the cooling rack.

A Book for Everyone
This is a very good book for both parents and teachers. It is also useful for adults relating to children who both are and are not "hurt." This book can be read as a preventive measure, as well as a book to turn to when nothing seems to get through to a child.

I tutor at a learning center, and work with children from all types of backgrounds and with all kinds of learning and behavior problems. This book has been very helpful to me. I feel I have successfully applied the techniques and suggestions in Chapter 4, and hopefully have avoided the pitfalls listed in Chapter 3. Chapter 5 has specific activities parents can do to positively affect their interactions with their child. Some activities can be incorporated in a teacher/tutor and child interaction, but they are more for parental interactions. Chapter 6 deals with education and is more for both parents and teachers. At the end of the book the authors present letters told from the viewpoint of both parents and children. If you want to learn about relevant research, Chapter 12, "the Author's Smorgasbord," gives brief descriptions of articles about hurt children. Also, the section "Related Readings" presents a reference list of useful articles. All of the researchers on this list are pioneers in early development and/or very well known for the quality of their research.

What I especially like about this book is that it does not make the parent feel guilty for the current state of their relationship with their child. Those feelings of guilt can hamper the positive growth of the interaction between parent and child. If you are even contemplating this book, or one like it, that says a lot. If you are really in a bind, go straight to Chapter 7 "Surviving When It Feels Like Nothing Works." Good luck and don't give up!

HELPFUL , INFORMATIVE & COMFORTING
I am the "Forever Mommy" of three wonderful children under the age of 9. I actually laughed (ALOT) while reading this book and felt tremendous relief to read that I am not insane! Many adoptive families go through the same intensity that we do. There were many great ideas that worked wonderfully - in fact the counselors, doctors and social workers actually wrote down some of the ideas for future reference for other families.

I sent a copy of this book to my mother to give her some insight and education. This is a MUST READ for all family members blessed with an adoptive child!!

Best Book I've Read on Adoption - Period
I've read adoption books for my whole life. My birth mother died when I was ten weeks old, I had six "homes" before my adoption at age three.

Now, I'm an adoptive Mom of a beautiful three year old boy who came from a shaky start but who is blooming delightfully now.

I've attended as many courses as I could over the past three years about helping children and parents deal with adoption and related disorders. I've participated hands on in over 300 therapy sessions and parent training programs, so I can tell you, there's a lot of information "out there" and none I've seen were as profoundly helpful and completely on-target as this book.

This book addresses soooo many issues in a completely honest, easy to read and sincere manner for anyone who wants to know more about adoption and healing and helping a hurt child.

This is an excellent gift or addition to your own library.

Predatory Dinosaurs of the World

Predatory Dinosaurs of the World
With an absolute minimum of hyperbole and a maximum of solid research, technical expertise, working theories and a good, solid mastery of biomechanics and anatomy/physiology (not to mention Comparative Anatomy), Greg Paul's "Predatory Dinosaurs of the World" is an absolute necessity for every dinophile in existence: It should be compulsory reading for all - professionals and non-professionals alike.
The articulate, yet understandable language in which it is written coupled with the clarity and accuracy of the anatomical diagrams and lively illustrations bring the book alive and allows the reader to come many steps closer to understanding the majestic and sometimes bizarre predators of Mesozoic Earth.
This is one book which needs to be SERIOUSLY put back into production . . . . . . . . immediately; if not sooner

A book of great ideas and technical expertise!
This is a must for the dinosaur maven, the biomechanic and the professional paleontologist. Gregory Paul is one of those all too rare scientists who is a superb illustrator and artist. He brings his intimate familiarity with fossils to a disciplined imagination and careful documentation. The result is one of the best dinosaur books ever. By the way, what is the similarity among a tyrannosaur, a horse and an ostrich? You have to buy the book to find out...

A must for the serious dinosaur enthusiast
Never before have I read such a comprehensive study of dinosaur anatomy and behavior as was compiled for this book. Where most books (even Bakker's _The Dinosaur Heresies_) on serious dinosaur studies borrow from the past to complete a picture of the present theories of dinosaurs, Paul literally threw everything out the window and started from scratch to put together new theories of lines of evolution, dinosaur locomotion, and even going so far as to build a completely new system of taxonomy for the great beasts. Some of his thoughts are sadly mistaken, but the rest of this book is such a gem that it should be on all paleontologist's shelves.

Principles and Practice of Military Forensic Psychiatry

Amazon base price: $114.95
Average review score:

Excellent Resource
This book is an excellent resource both for the military and the non-military forensic psychiatrist. Forensic issues are explored with tremendous clarity. Dr. Lande's new book on the Civil War is also exceptional.

Excellent book with great Terrorism Chapter
Excellent book telling the history of medical practices in the Military. Good section on Terrorism, especially today after September 11th 2001. I suggest anybody in the field of military law or military medicine or anybody just interested in this field read this book now! I can't recommend it enough.

Terrorism
Finding authoratative discussions by military clinicians on terrorism is a real asset in this book. That chapter alone was worth the price.

EXCELLENT! A++!
This book is excellent!

I run a web site design, hosting, and web application development company and use this book as a reference tool when questions or situations pop up. It packs great information into each chapter and has real-world case studies at the end of each chapter (that most project managers can relate to).

Web Project Management
I use this book for my Web project management class at Mercy College's MS in Internet Business Systems program. It covers all the details of a web project life cycle. Students find the book very informative.

A good one
I've read a couple of other books on the subject, and though they were all excellent judged on their own merits, Shelford and Remillard's book stands out in at least three ways:

First, the emphasis placed on the practical aspects of web project management is invaluable. They just don't talk about what should be done, but also show how to do it. For instance, one knows that in order to be an effective project manager, s/he has to get along with all the players on the team. That's common sense, but what really helps is tips on how it should be done, as the authors do. In the quality assurance section, the importance of bug tracking is mentioned. Then they go on to talk about how to track the different bugs, the tools to use, information to keep etc.

Second, as someone before me has already mentioned, the case-studies in the book are really helpful. They give insight into how web projects are handled in the real world, ie corporations and smaller companies. If you're going to be working as a web PM, it certainly helps to know about the experiences others have had. In one example, the situation of an indepedent consultant is described - he has to deal with three or four different, non-complying, business units within the same company to simply obtain a copy of the the marketing email distribution list needed for the project. If you find yourself having to deal with problematic clients, you'll have a head start on how to handle the situation. We as readers can benefit from years of acumen developed and distilled by other project managers by simply reading the case-studies.

Thirdly, the templates and other documents provided in the CD are a good starting point for your own projects. You can put them to use immediately with minor modifications. Samples for various mock projects are provided, so you know what kind of information to collect.

All in all, a good book.

"If I had my way, I'd take a boat from the river..."
Animation studios are desperate to find proven material for their feature films--especially in the wake of disappointments like "Treasure Planet."

That's why I'm surprised nobody has optioned the rights to one of the greatest children's books ever; it has emotion, thrills, an important lesson, and one of the cutest lead characters I've ever seen.

That book is, of course, "Scuffy the Tugboat."

Scuffy is a toy tugboat (hence the title) who dreams of something more than "sailing" in his little bathtub. When he is taken outside and accidentally swept away in a river, his harrowing adventure makes him realize that he should never have taken his old life for granted.

Just imagine Scuffy the Tugboat brought to life by CGI, charging down rivers, dodging logs and old tires...and facing the bustle of a busy shipyard before being miraculously recovered by his owner.

I can practically hear a popular actor like Ed Burns lending his distinctive voice to the little red tugboat, and Sting's nautical motif from "the Soul Cages" leads me to nominate him for the soundtrack.

As long as it's a faithful adaptation of this classic tugboat tale, nobody would ever be able to say: "the book was better!"

A favorite
It's been years since I've read this, so I really don't remember it much. I just remember Scuffy. But I do remember that this was always one of my favorites. I read other reviews of people growing up in the 1950s and reading this. Well, this has been a favorite since 1982. Scuffy is still going strong.

THE SEA IS THE LIMIT
.

"Scuffy the Tugboat" is a classic in childrens literature. It has an almost iconic status with people who grew up in the early Baby Boomer years.

Way back in 1946, toy stores were quiet uncrowded places. In one toy shop there was a rocking horse, a GI Joe Doll and a few cuddly soft toys ........ and one grumpy red painted tugboat called Scuffy.

Scuffy was ambitious. He thought he was meant for bigger things, than just sailing in a bathtub.

The toy shop owner (with his memorable polka dot tie) and his little boy, took Scuffy off to a laughing brook. It was springtime and the brook was running fast. Scuffy was soon off on his adventure.

The pastoral world he passed through seemed placid, but at night the hooting owl gave him a fright.

The river got bigger and busier. Scuffy was proud because he knew it was HIS river. He was nearly squashed between two logs that were on their way to the sawmill. With the spring melt a great flood burst the rivers banks. A lady and her cow had to be rescued off her roof.

Pushed along by the floodwaters Scuffy arrived in the big city. It was a very noisy and busy place. When Scuffy tooted nobody noticed.

Scuffy was just about to be swept out to sea. He wished the man with the polka dot tie and his little boy could rescue him. Miracle of miracles, there they were just as Scuffy was about to pass the last bit off land. He was rescued.

Scuffy realises that sailing in the bathtub is not such a bad thing ...... in fact he said "this is the life for me".

The illustrations by Tibor Gergely are what make this book so appealing. The scenes are full of life and activity, be it the pastoral river scene with its friendly animals and the colourful towns and cities. Look for the details in the city scene. Try to find the horses.

Tibor Gergely was a great children's book illustrator from this period. In addition to his artwork in Scuffy you can enjoy his illustrations in those other "Little Golden Book" classics, "The Little Red Caboose" and "Tootle". These three books are perfect companions in any young person's library.

A heart pounding and stomach fluttering read!
Being a fan of Jill Gregory's Westerns, I was not sure about a Regency story. WOW, can she tell an awesome Regency love story. Even with the element that makes me usually roll my eyes...the poor maid/serving girl who finds out at the end of the book, she was actually the daughter of a duke, which is perfect since the man she loves is a member of the ton... Gregory's use of this element is only a small piece of the puzzle. The plot itself had me questioning the outcome. (I knew the hero and heroine would get together.) Camille and Philip were two characters I found myself liking equally. I hate the stories where the man treats the woman like ... and she lets him with little resistance. Phillip and his family treat Camille with respect even though she is a "mere serving girl". I appreciated their kindness. There was also a lot of humor in the book. I love a book I can cry and laugh with. The secondary characters were a large part of the story and were delightful (or horrible, depending on their role :) ) Forever After is one of the books I will remember forever after. Pick it up and read it...you won't regret it!

Unforgettable
This is the very first "Jill Gregory" book that I have ever read. I basically picked it up to read while vacationing on a remote island.

To me, Jill's characters really leaped out of the book's pages and came to life...with vivid thoughts, hopes, dreams, love, pain, revenge and even tears. Forever After truly seized my emotions with its triumphs, tragedies and twisted plots.

I look forward to reading more of Jill's books.

Cinderella Meets Pretty Woman
I just loved this book. I loved the relationship between Camilla and Philip. The plot twists kept me very interested. If you like true love stories where the man is aloof and and seemingly disinterested (as in Pretty Woman) and the woman goes from rags to riches (and so does with tremendous style) this book is for you. I thought it was great.

A Strange and Blighted Land: Gettysburg, The Aftermath of a Battle

A Pioneering Book on the Subject
A fascinating study of a rare Civil War topic! Carefully researched and detailed, a must study for those who tend to glorify a brutal event. One serious detraction is the writer's peculiar use of his study as a stump to blast Christianity, saying that this "particular brand of religious myth had not really taken hold of society." He goes on to question the origin of the Christian cross and the existence of the soul. Coco needlessly attempts to diminish the important role religious faith played among Civil War soldiers, especially among Confederates. Also, it would have been helpful to have seen some comparative discussion about other Civil War battlefields, especially in the South (where most battles were fought), where the resources to clean up were, in comparison, far lacking. Otherwise it is a must read, and should serve as a model for further writings on the subject.

Strange And Blighted Land
A definate contribution to capturing the history of the aftermath of the battle at Gettysburg. The amount of details, statistics and facts along with eye witness accounts make this probably the best book on the subject. This is a must read for those interested in Gettysburg as so much more happened after the battle. The content written in this book offer a shocking reality to the absolute horrors which occured in Gettysburg in 1863.

A Different view
Coco's view on the darker side of Gettysburg is brilliant. He picks up when the shooting stops. His description of what it was like in the days, months and even years after this battle was very interesting. He spares no details and his desciptions of wounded and dead are shocking. He also brings to light the darker side of Adams County civillians in their treatment of wounded soldiers. Although there were many heroic and merciful civillians, Coco brings to light the ones who were not so. This is a great human interest story and sheds a different light on one of the most discussed battles in human history.
