Complete coverage of all of the important elements of SQA
If you're setting up an SQA function for enterprise processes and measurement this book is an invaluable resource that describes the major quality approaches, and gives excellent advice on metrics collection and analysis.

The major quality approaches discussed are ISO 9000, SPICE and CMM. The chapters devoted to these give a basis for comparing and selecting either a single approach, or taking the best processes and characteristics from each and developing your own approach. One nice aspect is the coverage of the ISO 9000:2000 standard, which differs from many books which only cover TickIT or the older 1996 standard that is missing the important emphasis on measuring customer satisfaction.

More general chapters that apply to all quality frameworks are the introduction to software quality, which covers the major issues and factors (as well as distinguishing SQA from testing), and metrics and problem solving. I especially liked the latter because the material goes beyond projects and product development to include the full spectrum of life cycle milestones.

In addition, inspections and testing, and formal methods and design are described in depth and placed into the context of an encompassing quality initiative.

This book will give anyone, regardless of experience and knowledge levels, a complete picture of software quality and what it takes to achieve it using proven practices and techniques.

In this way, the whole audience can understand. He makes A and P a pleasure to learn. However, I also used the following books which are also sold on amazon.

Vol 2 (ISBN: 0971999627)
I got a 97 average using these 3 books. My advice get these books if you want excellent grades.

Kinda confusing!
Psyduck is a Pokemon with a constant headache, and if you try to say these tongue twisters, chances are you'll get a headache too! The tongue twisters can be very difficult and confusing. My favorite one is this: Newlywed Ninetales nuzzle whiskers. This book wasn't made to teach your child lessons or something important like that; this book was made solely for the purpose of fun.

Fun book of quotations about and by the Great Detective!
A modern look at quotations from the Sherlockian Canon, done in an amusing and interesting way. Each group of quotes on a subject is then put under headings such as: "HIS CHOSEN AEROBIC ROUTINE," "JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS," and "PLEASE CONFUSE ME WITH THE FACTS."

The original Sidney Paget drawings are throughout the book, and the cover looks suitably Victorian/Edwardian. It's a small volume, but it contains, as the back page says: "THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HOLMES."

Keep it close by, as a reference tool, or just a book to thumb through. It's worth it!

Report From Afghanistan

Extensive & Concise
Chaliand, Gerard. Translated by Tamar Jacoby. Report From Afghanistan. Penguin Books: New York, 1982. 112. 6 maps. Chronology. Annotated Bibliography. Index.

Translated by Tamar Jacoby, Gerard Chaliand's Report From Afghanistan provides an extensive, concise and in-depth look at Afghanistan during the exact time of the Soviet intervention. From its first initial monarchy of 1747 until the one-year anniversary of the Soviet occupation of 1979, the book also contains numerous maps and a detailed chronology, adding to the amount of precise data in the book. Chaliand immediately begins to list the extent if his travels and his vast experience in the world making him a viable source of important information. For example, Report From Afghanistan "reflects two reports [Chaliand] made to Afghanistan, to Paktia and Kunar provinces, and to Peshawar, first in June and then in October and November 1980" (7). Furthermore, Chaliand's information accents the theme of the novel which echoes the closing lines of the book, which claims that, "The intervention of Afghanistan was not a backyard maneuver of little concern to anyone but the Soviets and Afghans themselves. Unless it is eclipsed by an even more serious Western theater, it will almost certainly be a major international sore spot for years to come" (91).
Each chapter provides a deeper look at various aspects of Afghanistan life and a mini-theme which eventually culminates together to create a larger theme in the final chapter of the book entitled. For example, "The Afghan Setting" claims that in the end the only solution would be to increase the country's arable land by improving irrigation providing an explanation on how to aid Afghanistan agriculturally. The following chapter, "From the Coup d'Etat to the Soviet Invasion" depicts the various leaders Afghanistan has had and their ultimate failures showing how many different government have ceased to accomplish anything. "The Afghan Resistance" chapter claims that Afghanistan stands at a point of crisis, waiting for badly needed economic growth and social progress and that religion for them is an ideology of resistance and represents group identity. The next chapter, "Soviet Strategy and Afghan Response" indicates the underlying motives of the Soviets and claims that their intervention has only been tolerated because "Western diplomats are uncertain about it significance" (75). Finally, the concluding chapter brings all these themes together and collectively emphasizes the desperate need for United States intervention. Perhaps this claim resonates in the reader's mind because the theme echoes a similar remark conveyed by Ahmed Shah Massoud before his gruesome murder in 2001. Even in 1980 Afghanistan requested US intervention and perhaps the September 11 tragedy has became the final product of what Chaliand attempted to show.
Report From Afghanistan proves to be an essential book for understanding the country of Afghanistan. From example, the maps indicating the terrain, population and ethnic distribution of Afghanistan to the detailed chronology in the end, any student would find Report From Afghanistan a fundamental book full of the complete history of the country. Report From Afghanistan also provides extensive and significant information about the economic factors of the country, the religious aspects and the different types of Afghanistan, as well. In addition, Report From Afghanistan clearly reflects the reasoning behind the Soviet intervention during the exact time when the intervention began. Furthermore, Chaliand's book foreshadows the turmoil that could develop if the West fails to aid Afghanistan in their fight for resistance and is a great place to start for the reader who knows nothing about the country.

Salsa!: The Rhythm of Latin Music (Performance in World Music Series)

A Must-Have for "Outsider" musicians
As the first chapter suggests, we're all outsiders...Puerto Ricans playing Cuban rhythms, Cuban players playing jazz, white guys arranging Latin dance music and Latin Jazz...the book at times is hard to read, owing to my lack of proficiency in reading music; however, for anyone who is reasonably well versed in sight reading the excerpts are short...the chapters on percussion are extremely easy to read--even for the "non-reader"...and uncertainties are cleared up by listening to the accompanying CD, which has patterns that lend insight into the intricacies of Latin music. The book makes a convincing case that there is room for an academic approach in understanding salsa, while making it equally clear that there are shortcomings as well. Well done.

Pessimism transcended
I leave it to critics and novelists to comment on the merits or shortcomings of a first novel? I can only say that I was attracted to "Schopenhauer's Telescope" by its title. Written by a poet, this first novel is presented in beautifully cadenced poetry like prose, though burdened at times by wearied transitions. Drafted in short chapters, the work resembles the form of Schopenhauer's, "Essays and Aphorisms."
At the precise center, marked by a curious screenplay on the Great Kahn, Mr. Donovan reveals the theme of his novel - strength through indifference. Focusing his inverted telescope on the past, Donovan comments on historical atrocities, interpreted like modern events, thus suggesting that nothing has changed. The result is a pessimistic (or for some) perhaps realistic view of history. There are possibly many metaphors and symbols to be mined by astute reviewers, but references to philosophers such as Hume, Locke, to me seemed more contrived and artificial than substantive. In terms of the title, the prevailing mood of pessimism, often associated with Schopenhauer is appropriate.
Surprisingly, the novel ends with the protagonist, an "indifferent" survivor placing a "love" letter on a table next to his bed, before he simply disappears. Like the announcement of a coming attraction, this ending suggests that a more differentiated view of life resides in the soul of this thought provoking and creative poet/novelist. I look forward to his next work.

A Super Intelligent Thriller
Donovan's first novel easily lives up to the promise of his three award-winning books of poetry. The novel is supremely intelligent, funny, surreal, and a first-rate page-turner. It's not full of huge action set-pieces, but the mystery at the heart of the story is so fraught with tension and dread that I couldn't wait to find out what happens. The constant philosophical banterings between the two main charcters are cleverly presented and never wear out their welcome. This book reminded me of a more readable, meanly humorous Umberto Eco. Donovan is a brainy writer, no doubt, but he knows just when to pull back and let the story flow. Entertaining and thought-provoking, this book deserves to be on anyone's summer reading list.
