Inspiring, Inspiring, Inspiring
Schwab is the master at communicating so much with so little. His work is unmistakable and inspiring. His command of light and shadow is brilliant. This book is without a doubt the definitive collection of his work, though just a mere sampling I'm sure. One thing I love about the book is the fact that the body exhibits beautiful, large reproductions of his graphic work with no text, almost as if you were in a gallery looking at Schwab's work. The art is presented without interruption. Whether designer or illustrator you will find this book an invaluable and cherished resource for your library. Graphis has created a masterpiece with this one. It's big, beautiful, and worth every penny or more. BTW, the book was designed by Schwab himself. Simply inspiring! Bravo.

Great Stuff
There is a timeless and simplistic quality to Michael Schwab's work. He makes this stuff look easy when anyone who's ever done design work knows it is clearly not so. His logo designs are a pefect blend of color and form. That helps to make the product easily identifiable. I'm really not doing any justice to his work with my ranting... but if you're interested in art and design then I strongly recommend this book.

Graphic Style: from Victorian to Post-modern

Required reading for every Graphic Designer...
I stole my copy from a friend and never returned it! This is one of the best reference books for historical graphic design styles. The book is very well organized, and contains quite a few color illustrations. It has given me hours of inspiration when I have an assignemnt to do for a client. They have examples of everything from Victorian packaging to Psychedelic poster art. This book would make an ideal gift for a student just learning the field, or an old pro that has been around for years.

Essential reading for anyone interested in graphic design
This book is essential reading for anyone remotely interested in graphic design. I use it as a reference for my students in graphic design classes. It's a beautifully concise summary of the history of graphic design styles - and gives visual examples as well as background information connected to the social forces that shaped the trends examined. If you are a student - it's a great first taste of the styles and movements that influence current graphic designers. If you are currently working in the field - it's a must have reference book.

A fitting end to a wonderful series of Dr. Who Handbooks.
Doctor Who: The Handbook - The Seventh Doctor concludes the excellent series of Dr. Who Handbooks from Virgin Publishing. This, the seventh and final volume in the Handbook series focuses on the Sylvester McCoy era of Dr. Who from 1987-1989 (seasons 24-26), the final three years of Dr. Who as a regular BBC series before cancellation.

Great behind the scenes information as well as a feature on the making of the season 24 story "Dragonfire". This volume also focuses on the seven year gap of 1989-1996, looking at the various attempts at one time or another on possible revivals of Doctor Who either as a new series or feature films before the British and American co-produced TV movie of 1996 that starred Paul McGann as the new Eighth Doctor, succeeding and finally concluding Sylvester McCoy's era as the Seventh Doctor. This handbook also includes massive coverage of the 1996 TV movie.

This volume also includes a superb index at the end of the book as well as an errata section, correcting the mistakes from the previous six Doctor Who Handbook volumes. An excellent end to a wonderful series of Handbooks that have become the most in-depth and authorized research on the history of the science fiction series Doctor Who.

An excellent final volume to the handbook series!
I waited a long time for this book to be published and was very pleased when I finally got a chance to read it!

This volume covers the last three years of the original BBC "Doctor Who" series (1987-89) as well as the events leading up to and including the 1996 "Doctor Who" movie.

It is organized into sections for easy reference and includes an episode guide for the seventh Doctor's era, with two reviews for each. It also goes on to include the information about Paul McGann's stint as the Doctor as well.

If there's any criticism, I wish the book had contained more information about the events surrounding the end of the TV series. But, this is a small point.

Like the others in the "Doctor Who" handbook series, the Sylvester McCoy volume is another well organized and well-researched volume.

Extremely witty, colorful and entertaining bio.
Though not up to date anymore, this book nevertheless is certainly the wittiest Kiss bio out there, chock full of funny anecdotes, tons of historical details, and interesting pictures. forget Angels in America
Everyone raves and raves about Angels in America, and with some justification; it is a very good play. But if you are looking for a truly emotionally wrenching, hilariously tragic and genuine look at the AIDS epidemic, then don't bother Kushner. Dietz's Lonely Planet is one of the most honest and touching plays I've ever read. In fact, reading the last act alone will make me cry. The characters are so well crafted and their relationship so real that the course of the narrative is profoundly affecting. Please read it. Please get someone to start printing it again. This is a work that should not be lost.

Tragic and Brilliant
I read this play a several years ago, before it was really published, and then acted it out competitively for audiences, winning a state championship with the sheer tragedy and beauty of this wonderful and heartrending story. I recommend this play to anyone who enjoys a play that both tears your heart apart and sews it back together in one sitting. Absolutely magnificent!

"Must" reading for students of graphic design.
An excellent text survey, Looking Closer 3 provides an anthology of classic writings on graphic design. This is a 'must' for any who would study the foundations of graphic design theory: it's the first to gather early critical writings from the turn of the century to modern times, grouping rare essays under one cover.

Historic Essays
This is the latest in a series of books that consist of collections of essays about the theory and practice of graphic design. The essays in the first two volumes were mostly from contemporary sources, particularly the AIGA Journal of Graphic Design. This third, retrospective volume is of even greater value in the sense that it gathers under one cover some of the most important historic writings on design from the late 19th century to the early 1980s, arranged chronologically. It contains over fifty hard-to-find articles by prominent figures in graphic design, among them William Morris, W.A. Dwiggins, El Lissitzky, Varvara Stepanova, Gyorgy Kepes, Alexander Rodchenko, Ladislav Sutnar, Beatrice Warde and Wolfgang Weingart. Graphic designers need to know where they came from, in order to better decide where to go. A substantial contribution to that effort, undoubtedly this is a book that should be on the reading lists of all designers, design students and teachers. (Copyright by Roy R. Behrens from Ballast Quarterly Review, Vol. 15, No. 1, Autumn 1999.)

Much like a text book
This is a very excellent resource on true Ninjutsu, one of the few, it should be charished by all true warriors.

Great Book for Scorsese Fans & Students
Examines Director Martin Scorsese's career from the beginning to Cape Fear (although it seems that the book had to go to press before Cape Fear was actually released, as there's a discernable lack of substance in that chapter).

To gather wonderful tales of how Scorsese works, Kelly interviews the director's friends, family members, casts, and crews. Oh, and the Secretary to the President of Cyprus!! (See details about The Last Temptation of Christ). Quoted stories, observations, and comments all contribute to a fine portrait of one of our greatest active cinema artists. (And, to the delight of film buffs everywhere, text shows that Scorsese is first and foremost an unabashed movie fan)! Kelly's system provides the reader to form own opinions about Scorsese, rather than making a lot of critical conclusions.

In pursuit of my undergrad degree, I used this book quite a bit for research toward essays I wrote about Scorsese's films. Not at all a chore to read, it was a very enjoyable book, great for the fan as well as the film scholar.

Good index, good filmography. Brief forewards by Michael Powell and Steven Spielberg hint at more than a bit of pure jealousy!

fantastic bio!
this is one of the best, in-depth bio's that I have read. And what a subject! Martin Scorsese is a god-like director that has made such films as Good Fellas Casino and Taxi Driver. The book is filled with interveiws from fellow directors and drew/cast etc. Great format! It's like reading a behind the scene's documentry.

BUy it!

A Huge Heap of Inspiration!
This large and heavy book is full of inspiration from our founding fathers in the design world. I had the opportunity to hear Mervyn Kurlansky speak at a design conference a few months ago, and he described how long design took before computers made things nice and easy. This book is full of work by designers who had to use "old-fashioned" ways to get their results.

I can appreciate the creative forces of those who paved the way for modern graphic design, just by turing the pages. ..., I demand quality in the content of the book itself. Master's of the 20th Century is worth every penny.

Because graphic design didn't really come of age until this past century, you will experience it's history though the full-color samples in this book.

I recommed this book to all graphic design professionals and to people who like to collect great coffee table books. Anyone who enjoys books with more pictures than words, will appreciate the beauty of this one!

Icograda's Hall
A fantastic record of 100 of the best designers of this century. All in one book, great illustrations (done only by the best) all full color and best of all a superb interactive CD rom, a big bonus for those of us who's technical skills are better than our reading ones. Highly recomended for all students of design. Suitable for professors as well as interrested readers. A must for all artists; Great and Small.

Mystical.
This is the shooting script to the most watched miniseries of 1998. All of the film's wonderful dialogue is included here along with some things that were cut and weren't seen in the miniseries. This edition also includes a short history about the film, a fine introduction, some pictures, and cast & crew notes. Great for any fan of the miniseries, any lover of King Arthur lore, or any serious film student.

Merlin
With imaginative dialogue and brilliant visual work, Merlin comes alive in script format. This book dosen't just offer the script, it also provides pictures and history, and some entries on the film's production. This document is extremely amusing and enchanting.
