A great introductory text for AP English
I use this book to introduce literary theory to my AP high school seniors. The explanations of the theories are accessible, the sample essays provide great models, and the suggested strategies for critical writing effectively allow my students to engage with both work and theory. Impressive... AND the author maintains a sense of humor which adds to the readability. Wow!

Heller Is Prolific
Steven Heller puts the "Good Graphics Seal of Approval" on any graphic design book, in my opinion. The essays in "Texts on Type: Critical Writings on Typography" is no exception. Together with Philip B. Meggs, Heller pulls together over fifty essays on the history, aesthetics and practice of type design and typography. You'll find essays in this anthology penned by the likes of Goudy, Zapf, Rand, Ogilvy, and other huge names in the arena of graphic design. This is just another Heller book to have to back up the rest of your everyday knowledge. After all, if you know more than the next guy, you'll get the job. My only complaint is that - for such an excellent book on typography - the typeface in the body copy is smaller than the norm. If you're over 40, pull out the reading glasses.

U.S. War Plans : 1938-1945 (Art of War)
Published in Hardcover by Lynne Rienner Publishers (2002)
Author: Steven T. Ross

US war plans compiled--at last!
Ross's excellent compilation of original documents traces the development of U.S. strategy in World War II, dividing the plans into three spheres: Pre-War Plans, War in North Africa and Europe, and War in the Pacific. Although Ross provides brief contextual commentary, the documents speak for themselves. Several versions of the Rainbow war plans are included, and familiar code-named plans such as Shingle, Neptune, Anvil, Cartwheel, and Iceberg are included, among others. Most fascinating to me was Operation Downfall, the invasion of the Japanese home islands that (fortunately) never was. To read of the massive numbers of troops, ships, and planes assigned for such an invasion (in its two phases of Olympic and Coronet) is sobering, if not harrowing. I trust this volume, which is the first time all these plans have been published in one place, will be of great value to those interested in war planning as well as in military history and strategy. A great resource!

best reference I ever read
"What do I read Next" is an excellent resource. Every question I had about genre, its success, and its latest trends were answered. The authors were incredibly thorough. The 700+ page book is divided by genre, such as Mystery, Romance, etc., then dissects each genre by category. It defines each subgenre and category. It classifies each text that has been publshed that year. Next the author analyzes each genre. The latest novels are identified and described. The genre is examined by category to explore the latest trends, developments, reviews, and other issues concerning romance. I loved this book because it provided a wealth of information for Final Paper. I would definitely use it again.

Bible for myster readers
I know that term bible of this , that and the other is used often and has almost become a cliche. However, I have to say that this reference tool per se, i.e., What Mystery Do I Read Next? : A Reader's Guide to Recent Mystery Fiction by Steven A. Stilwell, Charles Montney is the bible for mystery readers and librarians alike. In here one will find short information on the auhtors and their titles. The font is fair but not poor. It could have been better. However, the quality is sufficient for the format and one can not say that one strains one's eyes using this reference tool. Recommended.
