A wonderful book!
I really liked this. Lots of color reproductions of O'Keeffe's paintings, including several "fold-out" double pages. Covers her early mid and late periods. This is also a book about the museum devoted to her in New Mexico, The size of the book is nice too. A bit smaller than "coffee-table" huge dimension. A book you can browse through. Can be an introduction to Georgia O'Keeffe's art and life for somebody just learning about her, or can be extra fun for a real O'Keeffe fan.

Another Heller Masterpiece
Heller has written many books on this similar theme, that is a particular design period (deco) in a certain country. German Modern is one of the best. Covering many of the flourishing design movements in Germany around the deco period, there is much to be said in this book. Heller does a fabulous job at creating interesting text combined with beautiful imagery. A must have for design historians.

Fresh, funny text and hilariously appropriate illustrations
Based on a traditional counting song, Steven Kellogg's fresh, funny text and hilariously appropriate illustrations engage young readers preschool through second grade on a rollicking good time as the popular nursery rhyme escalates into a slapstick adventure involving cobblers, cats, chickens, sled dogs, even velociraptors. The ever-increasing number of clever companions adds up to a unique counting book that ends with the last old man surrounded by a lovable crowd of canine friends. Give The Dog A Bone is an original take on a childhood classic and highly recommended for family, school, and public library children's books collections.

Time is of the Essence
Heller is, as we all know by now, the preeminent graphic design writer of our times. This work displays the history of graphic design in simple, bulleted lists arranged by category in a chronoligcal arrangement that is as elegant as it is simple: each year gets its own spread (though earlier , sparses, years are two-to-a-spread), with reproductions of work from the year and stats on important developments in design, illustration, photo, and more, as well as the people who are responsible for such work.

Not a book to be read all at once, but to be enjoyed sporadically, leafed through, glanced through before bed... a must-have for the design history enthusiast.

The Fashion-ista's Favorite
WOW. A knock-out! Bluttal has cumulated a splendid chronicle of the career of America's definitive fashion star, Roy Frowick Halston.

The book gathers and presents the photographic richness that you must have to know why Halston mattered and continues to. The sequence, arrangement, and ingenious categories all articulate the Halston passion for pure color, form and line that made him legend and attracted the star-studded clientele and the trademarking of his family name as a label still very much in evidence today, a decade after his death.

Wistful nostalgia over the Studio 54 years and the innocence of New York in those years are the only drawback of paging through this tome.

BRAVO BLUTTAL! Your fat fat fashion clutch should be on every gift list - the best fashion bargain of the year!!

Average review score:

An Excellent Work of Scholarship
This is an extraordinarily fine book. In it, Frye presents a valuable way of looking at the historical romance and then makes it come alive with detailed and fascinating readings of several major American authors of the nineteenth century. The book is extremely well-written and engaging, and its applicability extends way beyond the authors Frye treats. This is a must read for anyone interested in history and in the romance.

Great intro to epigraphy and the history of scripts
Remarkable for its breadth, this work presents a concise history of writing authored by a linguist well known for his work on the Rongorongo script of Easter Island (Oceania's only pre-twentieth century writing system) and with the enigmatic Linear B script of Crete. Fischer's approach is essentially to circumscribe writing systems to a geographical area and then discuss their evolution within a chronological context. The author is adroit at synthesizing and drawing parallels from disparate writing systems but the books principal strength is in unfolding the development of scripts and exploring how graphic expressions of speech are manifested in various logographic, syllabographic, and alphabetic writing systems. The development of Babylonian cuneiform from its ancestral pictographs, the Phoenician and Etruscan roots of modern Latin scripts, and the evolution of the Standard Arabic script from its Nabataen origins serve as examples. The book is well endowed with illustrations of scripts, alphabets, inscriptions, glyphs, typefaces, and other source material. Linguistic terms are explained thoroughly as they are being introduced however the book would have benefited from inclusion of a glossary. Engagingly written, this book will appeal to anyone interested in linguistics and the historical development of writing systems.

How to Get Paid for Construction Changes: Preparation and Resolution Tools and Techniques
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (01 May, 1998)
Author: Steven S. Pinnell
Amazon base price: $64.95
Used price: $44.15
Buy one from zShops for: $50.15
Average review score:

A "Must-have" for all construction disputes professionals.
What I like about Pinnell's book is how it is written with the mind-set that "Partnering" and other cooperative processes need not be sacrificed for a contractor to get what he is entitled to.

Pinnell focusses on the contractors part of the claims process, since the burden is on the contractor to document his claim. However, designers and owners need this book because they must review, reject or approve contractor claims - many times using the same analysis methods used by the contractor to prepare the claim.

Strengths: Advocates a Partnered approach to claims. Concise review of pertinent contract law. Excellent chapter about scheduling. Distinguishes small claim methods from large, complex claim processes.

Pinnell takes you through even the most complex of construction claim processes concisely and with clarity.
