better than ever!!!!!!!!
Our office uses this book for research every day. You might be able to find it in your local library, but if you're interested in getting into the entertainment biz, or work in a related industry, get your own.

Everything you need to know about the industry...
Wow! This book has everything. The Who's Who section is better than IMDB, the company listings are exhaustive, including HR people. It also has the best section on movie theaters and the exhibition industry I've ever seen. More than an almanac.

My Kids love them
I now own 24-Carat Commericals for kids, and Magnificent Monologues for kids and I am one happy acting teacher! For the past 15 years I have been in the acting business doing commercials, movies, theatre etc. Everytime I took an acting class there were always plenty of scenes and monologues to choose from. But when I started teaching children this past spring I began to realize that good contemporary material for kids was hard to come by. I made a few purchases from Amazon.com and Manificent Monoluges for Kids was one of them. Needless to say the kids waited in line to use this book to select a monolgue rather than use the others. I have my own children (ages 6 & 9) and just reading through some of the dialogue I realized that Chambers Stevens knew how to connect with kids. When I received the commercial book I knew within 10 minutes that it was a winner. Chambers is making my job as a teacher easier and much more fun!

It helped me get a job!
When my mother gave me this book I was bummed. But when I read it I was happy! It was funny and very helpful. I followed it and got an agent. And then I got a Pepsi commercial. I think 24 CARAT COMMERCIALS is great!

a excellent perspective of close air support operations.
The first part of the book Van Creveld describes German air operations in the early phases of the Second World War. The Luftwaffe was extremely effective in interdicting and preventing enemy counterattacks, also Luftwaffe officers and army officers directed the attacks. But Van Creveld argues that the Luftwaffe wasted their resourcers against civilian targets such as railroads. The next air force that Van Creveld analyzes is the Soviet air force. The Soviet air force was under complete control of the army and acted as flying artillery to prevent any German counterattacks from appearing, but the Soviet air force engaged in hardly any interdiction missions against the Germans. According to Van Creveld the Soviets had the most effective form of aerial warfare since their role as flying artillery impeded the Germans from stopping the Soviet attacks. The final air force that Van Creveld evaluates is the Israeli air force. During the Six Day War, the Israeli air force was able to destroy lightly armored trucks but could not due any damage to the Arab tank forces. In the 1973 war the Israeli airforce couldn't provide close air support due to the presence of SAMS. Van Creveld than concludes the book by writing a chapter about the Gulf War that is strongly crititcal of the USAF. In Van Creveld's opinion if the USAF wasn't addicted to strategic air warfare than it could have closely cooperated with the ground forces in destroying the Iraqi army. In the appendix chapters USAF generals reply to Van Creveld's criticisms by stating that the Allied bombing campaign in Western Europe allowed the Russians to gain air supremacy and have effective close air support operations and the same applied to the IAF's performance in the Six Day War. The only weakness of Van Creveld's book is that he ignores Allied close air support operations in Western Europe from 1944-45, but otherwise this an excellent description of how the Russain and German airforces operated in the Second World War and how the IAF operates today.

Superb read for military, history, or business strategists!
Blargh! That was the sound of my brain spewing out all the garbage thoughts I had about strategy before I read this book. Dr. van Creveld, et. al., provide a remarkable (and concise) analysis of manuever warfare and the coexistent application of airpower. You're missing the boat if you think this book is Stewart Smalley self-motivational testimony for the "Zoomies" (Air Force). This book concisely provides the six tenets of maneuver warfare within the first 10 pages, giving the lay-reader an excellent oversight into how it is that the United States dominates every battlefield (and by extrapolation, the reader can figure out why disasters such as Somalia occur when the military deviates from that 'winning' formula).

In describing the history of maneuver warfare, van Creveld pre-empts the maneuver warfare nay-sayers by going beyond simple parallels of the German model. Yes, he gives the reader an outstanding version how Nazi Germany 'Blitzkrieg' tactics (really the application of maneuver warfare concepts) devasted Europe in the opening months of the Second World War. But Dr. van Creveld also goes into detail regarding the Soviets' masterful turning of the tables on the Eastern Front, Israel's decisive brilliance in the Six Day War, and maneuver warfare's direct role in the defeat of Iraq in 1991.

Now, who should read this book? In my humble opinion this book should be mandatory for all new military officers and senior non-commissioned officer. Not because it espouses air power's importance in modern warfare, but because it gives the reader an excellent template from which to build a cohesive team and winning strategy for overcoming challenges. Hell, you could even cull out all references to air power and strictly look at the six principles of manuever warfare - I'm strongly considering doing my master's thesis on "Maneuver Warfare Concepts and Modern Business Strategy".

In short, whether you're a military member, aspiring military historian, or a business person looking for new creative techniques to conquering the competition, this book is for you!

Not just Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat...
This book changed my life as an artist. I picked it up the paperback version of this in the late 80's when it was first published and it shaped the style of art I do today.

My favorite person in this book is still relatively unheard of: Kenny Sharf. Many of the artists are unknowns, and that is what I like about this book. It's nice to hear about artists other than the standard Andy Warhols. It talks about graffiti art, punk art, the clubs (CBGBs, Club 57, Mudd Club), the music (the Ramones, Klaus Nomi, Television to name a few), the parties (Lydia Lunch, Ann Magnuson, the Fun Gallery)...the whole art scene in the East Village during the 70s and 80s. Most of the illustrations are in black and white (at least in the paperback), which is a shame because I bet the artwork is better represented in color.

Great read!

I love this book, its a funky and informative scene book.
Well, i am not from New York and don't know how authentic this book is - but i certainly enjoyed it. Art after Midnight chronicles the development of the East Village Art Scene. It's interesting to read about Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat before they became famous. Lots of great pictures and history. A treasure.

AWESOME! C++ TEXTBOOK IN PLAIN ENGLISH
A computer science prof. gave me a copy of this book to study up on C++ (I took the first semester last year but forgot it, and I need to take the second semester.) THIS TEXTBOOK IS AWESOME! Easy explanations in PLAIN ENGLISH, esp. about functions. THIS IS A MUST-READ IF YOU'VE NEVER HAD ANY PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE.

This book, unlike the others, has lots and lots of REAL programs (whole programs, not just snippets) that one needs to read through entirely in order to understand what's going on.

Good Introductory Text for C++ Students
One line summary: "Better than any '21 day/6 week' book for students or seriously aspiring programmers."

NOTE: Inheritance, overloading, polymorphism, namespaces, and in-depth class design are not covered in this book. The objective of the text is to teach the student the "building blocks" of C++.

This book is being used as a textbook for an introductory class in computer science/programming at Foothill College (Los Altos, CA). From cover to cover it does a good job of teaching the students the syntax and concepts of C++, which makes up about 90% of the book. There are a lot of sample programs (which you can D/L from the internet), complete with execution charts and plenty of visual aids - very helpful in understanding the arrays and pointers - to reinforce the lessons. The remaining 10% is spent on guiding the reader how to CORRECTLY approach programming tasks as well - from analysis of the problem, to the design of the program, and examination of the code execution. Let's face it, most people who take up C++ are not "hackers" or natural born coders who can start banging away at the keyboard to make a program. The right way and proper habits of programming is a decisive factor in *getting hired* as a programmer, and also getting through one's classes in school. The book's continual demonstration of programming techniques is its greatest strength.

Minor flaws are some mistakes in the exercises and code. However, they can be spotted once encountered and does not detract from the learning process.

A wish list for future releases of this book would be the Student Compiler Handbook being included with the purchase price and bundled with the textbook, or include the all important information of adapting the programs to specific compilers in the main text (or future companion CD?). This is the problem that most students had with the book. Hopefully there will be a second edition that addresses all of this.

Excellent Introduction to Chi Kung
Over 140 line drawings and an easy to follow format present the techniques of qigong for beginning students. The training concepts presented encourage a relationship between yin and yang that encourages harmony of the spirit, mind, and body.

Great book very easy to understand and follow.
This is a very good book for anyone interested in Quigong. This book is very well written in plain and easy to understand language. The divisions in the book are natural and allow you to progress at your leisure. The illustrations are very clear and go hand in hand with the instructions. I would recommend this book, and as a matter of fact,I have to anyone that has a willingness to learn the beginnings of Quigong.

Wonderfully Written Work Without Words
It was really nifty how Marceau eventually breaks out of the book. The ending will have both you and your kid thinking about books in a new way. This is a classy production, with loving attention paid to layout, pacing, photography, and posture throughout. It's strange to talk about the wonderful writing in a book with absolutely no words, but it's true nonetheless! The story is captivating. The basic story line is easy enough to understand for young children (our 2.5 year-old loves it), but some of the more subtle interpretations will keep adults mulling over the book for a long time. And given how often your little will want to read the book, it's a good thing that it holds an adult's attention.

Kids Love This Book!
This is a wonderful book -- ingeniously conceived and flawlessly executed. I was surprised to find that my 9 year old daughter enjoyed the book as much as her younger sister. It's fun for young readers to figure out the story, and to imagine how the very tricky photography was done. Marcel Marceau continues to be an inspiring figure, graceful beyond his years. This book showcases his talent in a new, compelling, and personal way. It creates a fascinating world -- both inside and outside the box.

A keepsake for avid fans
Words and photos to the Catch Me If You Can screenplay document the action which takes place behind camera and script for this re-creation of a con artist's life. This official pictorial moviebook includes over a hundred color production photos along with archival photos from Abagnale's personal collection, making for a keepsake for avid fans.

Wow! I read this book YEARS ago!
At the time I read it, I thought it would make a fascinating "made-for-TV" movie. This guy is a trip! He got away with so much for so long, always just an inch away from getting nailed, then squeaking away (barely). I have not yet seen the movie, but plan to see it ASAP. If the movie is anything at all like the book, I'll be seeing it twice. I couldn't put the book down until I had read it ALL. I give it a 5-star rating.

I've misplaced the book (darn it) and now I am back at Amazon.com to purchase another copy. Oh well, I don't mind. This book is worth it and THIS time I won't lose it!!

absolutely excellent
i just had to take the time to write this review to let people know how wonderful this book is. If you don't believe in yelling at or hitting your children, but you can't figure out what else to do, this is the book for you. I have a 4 year old and have been following this book's advice for about 6 months and it works every time. it worked right from the beginning. It made sense to me and fit my style of wanting to "teach" my daughter rather than scold and threaten. It gives you examples and step by step instructiions. It is not a book that you can just "flip through" to get answers to your questions. You have to "read" it all the way through because one section links to the other. But it reads easily and quickly like you are talking to someone who understands. You can read it in a day or two. My copy is highlighted and dog-eared all the way through. I can't say enough about this book. My daughter and I are BOTH happier and better "behaved". I hope the authors have written other books on the next age group and adolescents.

An expertly written "how to" manual
Collaboratively written by parenting experts Bridget A. Barnes and Steven M. York, Common Sense Parenting Of Toddlers And Preschoolers is a very practical and "parent friendly" guide to the raising young children. From setting reasonable expectations for young children; to teaching social skills and self-control; to turning daily and weekly routines into family traditions, to handling very practical issues such as toilet training, bedtime, and meals, Common Sense Parenting Of Toddlers And Preschoolers is an expertly written "how to" manual which is very highly recommended for parents and caretakers of children ages 2 through 5.
