Good for what ails¿your company
Not at all your typical business book, but every bit the truth about the corporate world that I have experienced. As I became drawn in by the story, as told through the eyes and thoughts of the characters, I relived my own personal nightmares of ineffective management. But their outcome was much more pleasant, and entirely plausible. Judging by the many positive comments of some very highly placed executives, it appears that Enterprise Medicine is for real. By joining together and focusing on the possibilities, they made their vision a reality through teamwork, mutual support and encouragement - along with a good dose of flexibility. I honestly dream of working at a place like that! The employees were empowered and took ownership of their future - and the future of their company. I can think of quite a few companies who are ailing right now. They have the potential to become great again, but I think they could use a good dose of "The Cure" to get them back on their feet!

Great Read
"The Cure" arrived on Friday afternoon, and I couldn't put it down. I am glad I had a free weekend to read it because it is a page-turner. I never thought a business book could be so entertaining and informative at the same time. This is really a business novel, so there is a story (a compelling one) with characters (many you will recognize from your own business).

It tells the story of company that faces many challenges - the biggest of which is its own culture. What's different about this book is it tells you how to change that troubled culture into positive energy that will drive the business towards success.

This is a must read for those struggling with the cultural issues facing so many businesses.

The Cure: Enterprise Medicine for Business
I loved this book. It really applied to my business and I can already see how it will improve how we do business. I highly recommend!

Excellent Book!!
This collection of people and their life transforming experiences is simply excellent! Each chapter, which summarizes the experience of a different individual, is just the right length (not too long, not too short, and very well written).

My favorites here are the very interesting stories of Byron Katie, Valerie Vener, and Peace Pilgrim.

Remembering the magic in the mystery is Dan's great ability.
Of course I was honored that Dan and Doug asked me if they could tell about my near-death awakening in Copper Canyon (which is told in detail in my book, PRIMAL AWARENESS). But the honor relates, not to having my story included, but in being a part of Dan Millman's wonderful sharing of the joy that surrounds us all. Dan walks his talk and the stories he has selected reflect his deep passion for all that is magical.

Inspiring without being overpowering
While the idea of a collection of inspiring stories may sound like "Chicken Soup For The Soul", the similarites end there. One of the best things about this book is the way it mixes stories of mundane people with those of the famous, the current with the historical, to point out that this kind of grace could happen to ANYONE. While "Divine Interventions"' sparse, bare bones, almost journalistic style is HIGHLY unusual for this type of book, it lets the reader to decide for himself what to believe. And since it doesn't discuss the "Peaceful Warrior" books, it is a great jumping on point for anyone who's never read a Dan Millman book.

For fans of Dan's other works, however, this book does, as he's said, "fill a hole" in his teachings. Despite his practical approach to spirituality and how to use it day-to-day living, Dan makes it clear when he speaks that he believes that sometimes Divine Spirit touches us with grace far beyond what we may have "earned" by our lifestyle and practices. Now, if you've never seen him speak, you can read about his aspect of his beliefs. I highly recommend this book to anyone, believer or not. You can't help but be moved by it.

Simply terrific!...
This book not only covers Dragon NaturallySpeaking software but also offers several tips and examples on efficient speech recognition. The material is presented in such interesting fashion that makes this book fun to read. If you own Dragon NaturallySpeaking software, this book is a must to have.

Great help for both new and old Dragon NS Users
This is a really helpful book. I would prefer to read and Dan Newman's book than all the technical stuff in the Dragon manual, because it is so much more user-friendly. I have been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking since it came out in 1995. There is so much to know, and so much you can forget!! By reading this book, I am remembering some very useful tips, and learning some new ones. I would recommend this book to anyone using NaturallySpeaking.

For Authors not Typists
I used Dragon to first-draft Writing Nonfiction: Turning Thoughts Into Books. I was so impressed with the system, I included a chapter on using speech recognition to dictate a how-to book. Then I found Dan Newman's book. I recognized a number of things I had learned and found a whole lot more. Newman made the Dragon even more fun.

If you write a lot and are not an accurate, rapid typist, get speech recognition software. If you are fast and correct, keep on keyboarding. Dragon is good but you will have to make corrections. If you already make mistakes, it does not matter if you talk or type.

Dan Newman takes you step-by-step through using Dragon Naturally Speaking. (For coverage, click on Table of Contents in the left-hand column of this page.) He even includes trouble-shooting tips and resources.

Dan Newman is a great writer, gifted computer expert and a dedicated teacher.

As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to write a lot. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

Taking Stock
Dan Simmons has done something very rare in writing today. He makes you think. He has written a book about taking stock of ones life. His protangonist has been to the moon, which would make him the envy of many people. Yet, his life is not working. So the story weaves its magic on the reader. As the story proceeds, some of lifes questions are answered for the hero, but not all of them. There is a sense of disquiet that pervades the story. Better yet, melancholy best describes this work. If you going through your own personal search for the meaning of life or want a sense of what it could be like, then I highly recommend this novel. There are no aliens or monsters with this read, but it stands along with the best of what he has written. It is truly an amazing piece.

Minor masterpiece
I had never heard of this Dan Simmons book until the moment when I first saw it in some comic book store . . . and that immediately intruiged me. Generally with a successful author you hear about all of their books, whether it's the glorious peaks of their best work or the terrible quality that is the worst they have to offer. Curious I picked it up and put it on a shelf to read until just the other day, and now I finally finished. And I'm definitely impressed. This has to be one of the Simmons' least known and most underrated works, all of his fans who read his Hyperion series or even the fans who like his horror work should come and get this, because it falls nicely in the middle. Neither a science fiction nor a horror novel, this time he chooses to write about the simplest and most complex of topics: people. The novel concerns the spiritual (in a sense) quest of a former astronaut who once walked on the moon and his attempts to come to terms with his life and all that has transpired. It raises the interesting question, once you've sacrificed nearly everything so you can do what only a handful of men have done, isn't everything downhill after that. And if you leave your life in ruins because of those sacrifices, well you can't stay in space forever and you've eventually got to come down and face the music. The more is vastly more complicated than that and even though it doesn't have snarling vampires or weird spiky creatures (not that I don't like those) guarenteed you won't miss them one bit. Simmons crafts his main character with all the depth of a real person and eventually he becomes someone you want to know and someone you do get to know. His style is still marvelously apparent, his gift for description and detail never in better evidence here, especially when describing dreams or nature sequences, or even the cold beauty of space. Most of all this book has heart, Simmons has a real affection for the material and the characters and that shows through on every page. This is one of those books you can't go wrong with. Sadly out of print, try your best to snag a used copy and get ready to discover another facet of the man that you might not have realized. If anything this proves that Simmons can do any type of novel he wants and still create something of quality.

Down on Luck!
Yes, this is the one i really enjoyed. It felt like reading the work of the writer who didn't sweath while writting it (unlike Mooch). And that relaxed manner, communicates to the reader, as well. He did it in style, the way his father did, made ordinary events, into extraordinary. And that is something called ART?

A GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL!
Read it months ago and still can't get it out of my mind. This guy is better than Bukowski. If you don't believe me give it a shot.
What's it about? Trying to stay off booze and whatnot long enough to create on the typer--while desperately needing to hold on to some dead-end job in order to keep a bit of food in the belly and a roof overhead. This is life, the way it is for most people in this great nation of ours. Not everyone out there is wealthy like Bill Gates and has it made. Most people in this country are struggling and merely trying to make ends meet.

Bruno Dante is one of us, one of many. He feels he has the ability and the talent to creat something he can be proud of as a writer...if he can keep the demons at bay long enough...
You don't have to be a writer to be able to relate.
A Great American Novel? That's exactly what I said.

How Does This Guy Do It?
The title of this review pertains to Dan Fante the novelist, and to "Bruno Dante", Fante's protagonist in this third installment about an alcololic on a downward spiral. Dan Fante is a brilliant writer who takes the reader into the bowels of hell and back. How does he do it? "Bruno Dante" is a man on a road to nowhere and, like all alcoholics, refuses to admit it but somehow keeps on going. How does he do it?

"Bruno" started out as a chump (CHUMP CHANGE), then became a MOOCH and now he tries a geographical cure for his misery by moving to New York. In his first interview with a temp agency he lies about his last employer, telling the interviewer the company has relocated. "I've relocated, too" is his explanation for being in New York. Alcoholics are always trying to "relocate". Dead end job after dead end job follows until he finds himself hanging onto the side of a building, fourteen stories up, washing windows. The one satisfying moment of his day comes when he spits off a tall building knowing someone down below is lower than he. At least for that second.

Once again Fante explains the illness of addiction in a way everyone can understand. The booze and the drugs are only simptoms. It's the mind that's messed up. Yet "Bruno" will continue to seek happiness in a place where happiness never has been and never will be found: in that messed up mind of his.

You'll find yourself pulling for "Bruno" to find that happiness because, even though he's a full blown alcoholic, Fante has made him a very funny and likeable guy. Will he find that happiness we all seek? Read the book to find out.

Go In And Out The Window is a breeze!
This is a lovely book of full-color spreads & clear, easytoread music to accompany anyone singing these lively, familiarsongs. 61 classic childhood songs are decorated with some of the magnificent treasures from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Songs for work, play, nursery, nonsense rhymes, ballads & lullabies matched to paintings, photographs, bedspreads, sculptures & collages spanning 3000 years from around the world...

Good selection, unusual illustrations
This book features 61 traditional songs, primarily English and American. The illustrations, however, are much more diverse--from Japanese scrolls to a picture of a jeweled box shaped like a frog.

Each song has a brief introduction describing its origins or other important facts, and each image also has a description, often including historical tidbits.

The bountiful images (at least one per page, often more) make it a good book for young children to look at while singing or playing at the piano.

Go in and Out the Window
This looks like a book for children, and it is. But even more important, it is a book for babies! My two year old baby boy already knew some of the songs going into the book. Let me tell you that at two and two months he now requests "Bringing in the Sheaves." and "Down by the Riverside."
Every night we take that book to bed and we sing and sing until we fall asleep. This is of course after reading several other board books first. I reccommend this book as a keepsake for life!

A Fine Little Book
Dan Millman has written a fine little book that is full of simple but powerful truths. He describes these truths as "Laws" or immutable principles that are simply and always true whether one agrees with them or not. A powerful message and very good advice.

An Eye Opener to Many Truths and Unbounded Wisdom
I have shared this book with many friends in the Spiritualist community and we all believe this book contains so much truth and wisdom for the reader to ponder and to follow. The first time I read the book I was glued to every page and after each chapter sat and was awed at Dan Millman's ability to convey with so much ease the wisdom of natural law through the voice of a Sage. It has inspired many of my friends, so much that I have bought the book and given it to them as gifts.

It is a must read book for all that will help in all aspects of life.

Best of Millman's titles!
Many of you will know Dan Millman for his Way of the Peaceful Warrior, or perhaps one of his other many books. I've read a good number of them myself. But for its easy reading, its graceful approach, and its universal laws condensed, The Laws of Spirit is my favorite of all his titles.

Standing in line with that ancient tradition of sharing truths through fable, the book tells of a fantastic Millman adventure; with his family away for a few days, the author heads out for a day-long hike into the nearby hills, and there he meets with a sage who extends his intended time away. In the course of a few days, she shows him all the most important laws of Spirit, and makes them real for him through immediate experience.

These laws begin and end with the important principles of balance and unity; but they also cover so many others that can transform lives: choice, process, presence, compassion, faith, expectation, integrity, action, cycles, and surrender. They're all here, and explained with humor, and with real art - this is the most beautifully written of all Millman's work!

I'm also a fan of the short and sweet - something people can use in our hurried world to slow themselves down just a little, and to get a real gem out of reading in those spare moments. The book itself is a lightweight champion, easy to keep on hand; each chapter is about eight pages, simple to tackle over breakfast, on the bus, wherever. It sort of kicks our excuses in the rear. Each chapter is poignant, and really filled with wisdom - almost like a book of wise quotes, so focused is the writing. But meanwhile, one enjoys the tale itself.

Written as a tale like this, I believe it is also a book that would be well received by those who are looking for Spirit, but who don't want to be shocked by the more outrageous or risqué ideas available. So if you have a friend that you'd like to share some beauty of Spirit with, this could be your title. Wonderfully written, entertaining, a real gem among works. The Laws of Spirit is one for everybody's shelf.

Living on Purpose
Best-selling author and lecturer Dan Millman refers frequently to the "House Rules" when responding to questions in Living On Purpose: Straight Answers to Life's Tough Questions. He explains that the House is life or reality and the Rules are universal laws, adding that "the House Rules presented in this book-distilled lessons from the school of life-provide reliable strategies for living on purpose."

Millman has divided his book into twenty-five short sections. Each section begins with a general question about life, such as "why do I sometimes cause problems while doing what I feel is right?" These are answered with one of the House Rules, such as "Timing is Everything." An explanation of the House Rule and how it may be applied follows.

After that comes two specific questions people have asked him on subjects as varied as free will, metaphysics, child rearing, health, and money. He answers these with practical examples, often using his own life, or with illuminating anecdotes and parables. Many of his answers include humor along with the insights.

He finishes each section with "personal applications" in which people are encouraged to complete two or three simple exercises designed "to test these House Rules in your own experience; tailor them to fit your particular circumstances."

While he isn't a channeler, Millman does say that his answers come through him, not from him. He also says he isn't giving people wisdom that they don't already have, instead he's helping them search within for their own truths.

"In Living On Purpose, Dan Millman combines the wisdom of Solomon with the common sense touch of Dear Abby, taking on real-world questions with the insight and knowledge that have drawn millions of readers to his books." It's an essential reference for anyone seeking practical guidance in answering the difficult questions faced every day.

Life as an opportunity.
Dan Millman's LIVING ON PURPOSE provides a clear and simply structured view of what Millman calls "House Rules," guiding principles for living one's life on purpose rather than by accident. Each chapter presents a House Rule, then a clarifying summary of the rule, two related question/answers, and a personal exercise page. I found the tone of the book supportive and compassionate. The anecdotes are light-hearted and helpful. Some of the ideas I was particularly struck by include: "If we wait for the perfect moment to come alive, we may discover that we never lived at all," and "By paying attention to the present moment, and the next, and the next, we determine the quality of our lives."

LIVING ON PURPOSE gently nudges the reader in the direction of living in the moment. If you are a fan of the power of awareness to dramatically enhance your ability to live fully, I also highly recommend "WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK" by Ariel and Shya Kane. These are books that can make a real difference in the quality of people's lives.

Great information and advice!
This is a wonderfully optimistic and inspirational book to read. In my opinion, this is the best book that Dan Millman has written to date. It outlines the virtues of common sense living, how to learn the important lessons from our (and from others') mistakes, and much more.

I highly recommend it to everyone who wants to make a difference!
