Excellant
Excellant book, tells the stories of how athletes were treated when they came out to friends, family, and teammates.

Excellent continuation...
I bought Dan Woog's Jocks a few years ago, and after a few of the reads posted a 5-star review of it. And I give this book the same review. It is an excellent insight into the competitive world of sport, and how so many athletes suffer.

Being someone who loves more of the less-known sports, I found the inclusion of those kinds of sports very welcome. They give me valuable insight into how those sports have a slightly different view of things, but still have the same problems.

A definite thumbs up.

A must for athletes who are gay, gays who like athletes & ..
those who know folks into either or both !! These stories are truly inspiring and insightful, heart-renching and awe-felt! The author did a great job of capturing the role models like Warren Cohn, and the heros like Rafael Cruz Rivera in a way that serves to provide a path for youths as well as pride for some parents. It reinforces the notion that men and women can still be gay and athletic, that being homosexual doesn't force one to leave their masculinity at the door. Well done Dan Woog, and more importantly well done to those whose stories you told.

Lenka puts actions into words
I read this book after receiving it at a conference that Lenka Peterson spoke at. In reading the book, I realized that she had put most of the information covered in an 8-hour session plus enough to fill another week of 8-hour sessions. The book truly takes actions and in-person teaching lessons and makes them readily available to anyone anywhere.

Helping Young People Discover Theater
In this wonderful new book, Lenka Peterson and Dan O'Connor draw on more that 30 years of experience to reveal how to teach and direct plays with children. Their sophisticated yet accessible guide covers everything form the basics of acting to mounting and staging a production. It includes plenty of child-friendly sample scenes and relaxation techniques for kids. Perfect for established children's theater groups as well as churches, schools and camps, Kids Take the Stage shows how we can help kids realize their creative potential...and, in the process, create a new generation of theater lovers.

Bravo!
This is a magical book, full of exercises and anecdotes that teach children to celebrate what they have to offer as potential artists, but mainly as human beings. I recommend it to anyone who wants to introduce children to acting and the theater. It is joyful, rewarding, wise and a lot of fun to read. Bravo/Brava!

A Must-Have-And-Read book for Kyudo beginners
Wonderfull book, covers both spiritual and technical aspects of kyudo practice. Dialogs with Onuma-sensei are very very valuable for real understanding of what kyudo is stands for, problem solving section helps a lot for technics. Very well done as a book - exceptional quality. A must have book...

Should be known as the Kyudo Bible.
This is one of the best books out on the art of Kyudo. I am currently in Japan teaching and have taken up the practice of Kyudo as a way to learn about Japanese culture. The book covers all areas of interest and is very detailed with step by step illustrations. My instructor refers to the book often to point out my mistakes and highlight my improvement. If you are learning Kyudo or just want to read about its history and cultural significance, then this book is for you. You will not be disappointed.

The definitive modern handbook to Kyudo
As a practising martial artist and western style archer I find this book to be exceptional. Not only can one learn about the history and significance of this art, one can also learn advanced knowledge of the equipment, styles and techniques of kyudo in a very readable form. It has inspired me to take up this martial art and while I learn I find myself continually drawn back to reading it. This book is already a classic and I would strongly urge all martial artists, archers and anyone interested in zen philosophy to read it and read it. Dan & Jackie DeProspero have made some of the secrets of the East available to those of us in the West and I congratulate them for their excellent work which will certainly stand the test of time.

Lilies Amonst Thorns
This is undoubtedly one of the most amazing books that I have ever read. Theses Christians display the wonderful power and love of God in overcoming "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, because they loved not their lives unto death". We American believers would benefit greatly from reading it and other books like it,

Lilies Amongst Thorns
This book has helped me have a deeper commitment to God as it describes how Christians in China gave their lives, suffered excruciatingly, and allowed God to work marvelous miracles through their lives for the furtherance of the Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Great book for those that have cooled off in their fervency for God.

I believe it is a must read for every christian.
I consider this a book that is transforming. It leaves you with an awe inspiring knowledge of God and to know Him in a very deep way. This book will change you.

Be a Dreammaker
This book is the most inspiring peice of literature I have ever read!...Great for all ages. teaches you to never take anything for granted! Great stories about Dreammakers, Dreambreakers, and Dreams.

I had the most belly laughs & tears i've had in years.
The picture on the cover, front and back are worth the price! And how about the chapter headings?----Like "The best way to get a healthy body is to marry one." or "My idea of exercise is a good brisk sit." Dan takes you thru a lifetime of challenges most of you never dreamed of and makes us aware of our attitudes toward others. I was given my first copy--- could not put it down til finished. Bought 3 more to give to my " children". {then they told me how to buy it on Amazon!!!!! Etta ettabil@aol.com

He's the can-do man who will inspire you!
I helped Dan Miller write this story of his life. Our coming together on this project touched my life in a truly positive way. Dan is a down-to-earth, caring person with an amazing story of pulling God's best out of any adversity. Anybody else would have let polio cripple their spirit as well as their life. Not Dan. As a much-in-demand motivational speaker, he inspires thousands to go beyond the mediocre and to not let their past drag them down. I've shared his book with many people who've endured difficult circumstances, and they've affirmed that Dan's faith-grounded approach to life really makes the difference.

Makeready: A Prepress Resource
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (1996)
Author: Dan Margulis

An absolute must for Photoshop users
Help please! I'm a longtime fan of Mr. Margulis and I've been dying for over a year to get this book. Unbelievably, it is out of print!!! Is there someone out there willing to share a copy? I'd even gladly pay for photocopies!

Margulis may be the greatest Photoshop expert of our era
I've read two books and probably a dozen magazine articles by this guy (and look for new articles every month in various computer magazines). He's the only one who seems to know how to get Photoshop running on all 8 cylinders at once. This is a good Q&A book about what to do in all types of real life situations with Photoshop, often very simple concepts that seem revolutionary compared to the twirl-filter mentality of say, Deke McClelland (whose my 2nd favorite PS authority. Sometimes that twirl filter is handy).

Makeready: Image Correction Bible
Dan Margulis' "Makeready" is an excellent resource for anyone who works with Photoshop in a prepress situation. It is written in very understable and often humorous terms. This book has made my job much, much easier and helped me impress my employer and co-workers. A must read for any prepress people as well as designers who work with Photoshop. Also includes sections about the rise of cheap stock photos on cd and the proliferation of typography.

This book contains many undocumented tricks. This is a book that an Access developer better has to enrich your database applications.

The "Yellow Pages Book" of development books
This is one of the easiest books to use. It sits on my desk within arms reach. The Q&A format, helps you get answers to questions you didn't know you had. This is a must for anyone developing in Access, beginners to experts

An indespensible guide to Access 2.0 developers/power users
Without a doubt the best, easiest to follow guide on advanced Access 2.0 features and programming. This is the one reference I go to over and over again when trying to solve a tricky problem or find a more elegant solution. It details many undocumented and underdocumented features that make Access 2.0 the powerful tool that it is. This book gave me the quantum leap in understanding Access Basic and associated advanced appliation development tools. I recommend it to anyone building Access applications, large and small, and for power users who want to improve the look and feel of their databases

very good review for Anatomy and Physiology
These flash cards are an excellent reference for remembering the actions and insertions of the muscles in the body. I also used the following which I found to be quite helpful:
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Vol 1) ISBN: 0971999619
Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Vol 2) ISBN: 0971999627
If you really need something to help understand specifically the muscles, bones and ligaments of the spine, I highly suggest the following:
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
ISBN: 0971999600

These 3 last study guides are very helpful because they helped prepare me for the type of questions my instructor asked on my college A and P class. My friend from another college told me about these books because he also found them helpful when she took college A and P

I just finished my Mid Term Practical on this topic
My Grade was a 99 - I couldn't have done it without these flashcards. Everything you need to know is listed, the details are excellent and instead of carrying a heavy textbook I would just put these in my bag and could study where ever I was. I even did it waiting on the line at the supermarket. These cards made the study of human anatomy fast, easy, and painless - what more could you ask for.

Mosby's Anantomy Flash Cards (Muscle, Joint and Bones)
I am taking a Human Anatomy class and I am using Mosby's Anatomy Flash Cards with my notes and textbooks. The illustrations are really great! With these flash cards, there is little difficulty identifying different areas and being able to memorize origins, insertions, functions and innervations. I absolutely recommend these cards. They are a great learning tool and are money well spent.

The Neon Wilderness
Published in Paperback by Seven Stories Press (1997)
Authors: Nelson Algren, Tom Carson, and Dan Simon
Amazon base price: $10.95
Used price: $3.49
Average review score:

CLASSIC IS RIGHT!
A true marvel. Not many writers come close. Nelson Algren is at the very top of the heap: original, compassionate, funny, insightful. You know, we read many books, and once we have finished with the book we toss it aside and forget about it. With Algren it's different. You read his stuff and can't help feeling cheated at not having known the man, not having ever had a chance to meet the guy. Wish there was a way to sit down and have a beer with the man, light up a stogie and have a good chat with the genius who created this masterful story collection. The writing is gritty and true, heartfelt. Brings to mind several other writers who had this knack of writing in this kind of honest, unflinching style: John O'Brien (Leaving Las Vegas), B. Traven (take your pick: Treasure of Sierra Madre, Cottonpickers, etc.) Knut Hamsun (Hunger), Eugene O'Neill (Long Day's Journey Into Night), Celine (Journey to the End of the Night), Kirk Alex (Working the Hard Side of the Street), Chester Himes (If He Hollers Let Him Go).
All of the above had their own style, of course, but the thing they had in common was in the balls they showed by not flinching away from the gritty, life lived by so many who weren't born with deep pockets, who didn't have it easy.

Writing from the gut. Algren lives. Read THE NEON WILDERNESS, and give some of the others a try as well.
This is writing for people who love books and love to read. Shut your TV sets off and pick up a good book--and you can start right here, with Algren's story collectiion.

The Neon Wilderness
Algren's writing in this collection of short stories has very lyrical and often nightmarish quality. It is both beautiful and brutally frank. Algren paints a unapologetic picture of Chicago and it's people with his wonderful sense of humor and irony. Read this book if you want an unblinking look at people at their best and worst.

ALGREN GETS IT DONE!
One of the most beautiful collection of short stories I've ever read. I am a devoted Nelson Algren fan, and if you read this, you'll understand why. This was a man who understood Chicago, who had the balls to plunge the murky depths of her society and find astonishing beauty. The blue imagery of his work is evocative, breathtaking, and genuine; it makes me mourn and long for a Chicago that no longer exists. The masculinity, the authority, the depth of Algren's identification with the rejects, the drug addicts, the gamblers, the hookers make WILDERNESS a superb work of art. This man tells it like it was; no glamorizing, no condescension, only the most profound understanding and a multi-layered sense of humor that, to paraphrase Hemingway (a huge Algren fan), makes you feel as if you took a punch. I haven't read the NEON WILDERNESS in a long time, but the mere mention of it makes we want to re-read it, especially the first story, "The Captain Has Bad Dreams." I also recommend BOSS by Mike Royko and just about anything by Studs Terkel.

Accurate Information - Easy to read format
I have both of Dan Kiedrowski's books, the original and this latest edition. He takes the breed from its origins in Germany to the present day. If you are a breeder, exhibitor or just a schnauzer lover you will be in for a treat. There are photos from the past and the present, so that you can clearly see the changes in the breed. The Miniature Schnauzer is a wonderful breed and this book shows the breed beautifully. If you are interested in a specific breed, schnauzer or other it would be wise to read all you can, and learn all you can so that you will be able to make an informed choice. Dan's book will give you accurate unbiased information regarding schnauzers.

new shnauzer owner
THIS BOOK WOULD BE AN OUTSTANDING REFERENCE GUIDE FOR THE BREADER OR OTHER INDIVIDUAL INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF THE BREED. I JUST PUT A DEPOSIT ON A SCHNAUSER AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR MY DAUGHTERS AND WAS MORE INTERESTED IN AN ENTRY LEVEL GUIDE BOOK TO CARE AND TRAINING, I WOULD NOT RECOMEND IT FOR THE NOVICE.

If you love miniature schnauzers,, you'll love this book.
This is the best new book on miniature schnauzers that I've seen. It covers history of the breed and desirable vs not-so desirable physical characteristics, and other interesting information, plus, oodles of pictures of modern champions and their lines. I found almost all of the champions in our schnauzers' pedigrees. The book did contain a clinical report on eye ailments, which was oddly out of sync with the rest of the text (it looked like someone was just trying to get their article published). This chapter should have been completely omitted or else presented as a general discussion of the ailments typical of the breed. Aside from this problem, the book should be a visual delight for any schnauzer lover.
