The Mystery of the Aspen Bandits: A Kimmy O'Keefe Mystery

Great Reading!
The Mystery of the Aspen Bandits is a great addition to the Kimmy O'Keefe Mysteries series. Following the debut of Kimmy O'Keefe in the first book, The Mystery of Half Moon Cove, Kimmy and her friends are at it again. It's fun to read and a definite page turner. Look forward to more installments!!

fast-paced...couldn't put it down
The adventures the main characters (3 teenage girls) get into are extraordinary but believable. These girls experience everything from exhilaration skiing down a steep slope to sheer terror fighting for their lives with contemptible jewel thieves. Repeatedly slipping out of harm's grasp, these girls will keep you biting your nails. This and the other Kimmy O'Keefe mysteries are fast-paced, can't-put-it-down reading!

Believable characters and fast-paced action
The teen jargon and excitement generated by the karate scenes add to the story's appeal. A Self-Discovery Helps section at the close of the mystery offers engaging material for personal reflection. Dr. Montgomery has done it!

There is hope even in our very darkest days
This book has been very tough to read but God has used it to encourage so many. The authors did such a fantastic job of giving the reader a comprehensive understanding of what took place at Wedgwood by weaving numerous eye witness accounts. The picture they provide is very rich and inspiring. I am very grateful for their work and how they tell the world how Christ was proclaimed.

Night of Tragedy, Dawning of Light
It is sometimes harder to review books that hit close to home, but this book deserves mention. Dr. Dan Crawford did a wonderful job in putting into words what will always be a part of many people's lives. Dan catches the emotion (I did shed a few more tears), the shock, and the triumph in what happened at Wedgwood Baptist Church. To anyone reading this work it helps you to be there on that night with lights flashing and shocked expressions everywhere. Dan's book doesn't seek to mask what occured with platitudes and theories. The book tells it like it was, and what is the "Hope" that keeps Wedgwood Baptist Church going. Night of Tragedy, Dawning of Light accurately records the coming together of a community, and the reassurance that God can take the worst and turn it for good. It may not be the easiest book to read in terms of the emotions it evokes, but it is well worth the effort.

Victory When All Hell Breaks Loose
It's hard to forget the image when you turn on the news and see a mass shooting like the ones at Columbine High School or at the Jewish community center in Los Angeles. But, when you see it happen in your own community and in a church of your denomination, it makes it far worse. Dan Crawford does an excellent job over more than 375 pages detailing not only the destruction that Satan wrought on God's house at Wedgwood Baptist Church, but more importantly, shows the victory that only God is capable of providing. There are points where I got very angry, points where I cried, but at the end, I was reminded that Satan has already been defeated and our Lord has the victory. That's the true story of Sept. 15, 1999.

No B.S. Sales Success (Self-Counsel Business Series)
Published in Paperback by Self Counsel Press (1999)

Great Book
I thought this book was so good my dog literally eat my copy of it and it immedeatily (sp) went on Amazon and ordered another one. I'm an author myself and I have read many business books and I appreciate Kennedy's straight forward, no BS writing. I want to learn real things that I can actually use in selling and this book does that. It's also cheaper than most of the books that it is better than.

A proactive sales success classic.
Dan Kennedy has played a huge role in helping me to be successful in business. Dan Kennedy is currently President of the Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation and has been one of my success mentors because his wisdom is easy to follow - but more than that it is right on! I started out as an engineer and a very timid salesman. Dan Kennedy is has helped to change that. Because of him I know myself better, which has helped me to better serve others in my business. I guarantee that if you read this book you will be a changed person - it's that incredible.

Kennedy always covers all of the proactive bases: smart thinking, system thinking, futuristic thinking, and positive thinking. If you are truly seeking the kind of success and abundance that makes your life 100% livable - you must read this book. Many of his ideas are found in SUCCESS BOUND, another book built on learning how to live a proactively life that is God centered and fulfilling.

Everything that I have put into practice that Dan Kennedy has recommended in his books has worked. He has brought me success by focusing on what is important in selling and using my God given talents and my thinking ability to be a better salesman.

You will find that this exciting book becomes a part of you. Don't hold back - let it happen. In fact, spend 10 to 15 minutes every morning for the next several days focusing your thoughts on the truths of this book, thereby allowing them to seep deep into your subconscious mind. If you do this I guarantee God's wisdom will most assuredly bring you the success and abundance you deserve.

Enjoy this book and your new proactive and successful life!

Just what everybody (not just salespeople) needs
I bought this book purely because I like Dan Kennedy. I am not a salesperson by training or profession, but I always know that I can get something good out of what Dan says.

One of the most interesting points he brings up is that of "takeaway selling." This is basically, where instead of covertly begging for the sale like so many salesepeople do, you take it away by playing "hard to get." This is part of his overall plan of positioning yourself, so people respect you. People want to do business with you, so you don't have to go beg for business, which brings me to my next point.

This book is a little misleading in the sense that people think it only applies to salespeople. I disagree. We all sell in some way shape or form in our lives. The key is to position yourself in such a way that people seek you out instead of you having to advertise. How many "ads" does Harvard University place to recruit students?

I give this book 5 stars purely because it is short and packed with very good useful information. 5 stars because it is great for anyone who owns a business. If you're tired of underpricing your services and having to advertise heavily, this book is just what you need. And if you don't own a business and are not a salesperson? I still think it is a useful book because it causes you to conduct yourself in a different manner. You have more self-respect and self-worth which is something we all need regardless of our profession.

A Valuable Reference for Cat Owners
This is an excellent book dealing exclusively with older cats. It is informative, easy to read, and surprisingly upbeat considering the issues it covers. The book has an extensive appendix with valuable resources for more information on dealing with older cat issues.

The book has useful information covering health, extending life, nutrition, and dealing with final decisions and grief in a straightforward manner. The book has stories about older cat solutions from various cat owners that make the book fun, and have helpful hints as well.

There is no easy way to make a decision about your older cat's fate when he or she gets sick or has age-related problems. This book has the courage to deal with these issues, including the matter of deciding when or if to use euthanasia to ease your cat's suffering. Again, stories from other people make the read easier, and come up with alternatives. Death is a taboo subject in our society, but this book has the courage to deal with it.

The book covers some diseases and the signs that your cat may be ill, injured, or in declining health because of age. It deals with the decisions whether to give care or to end your cat's suffering. It helps to make the choices, and again reading other people's choices can make your decision easier.

Cats are valuable additions to their owners' lives and I deserve whatever help we can give when they reach old age. This book can help you do the right thing for your pet. I recommend this book to anyone with an older cat. It is a valuable reference for the cat owner's library.

A five mouse rating
While I haven't had any cats or other pets for a couple of decades, I was fascinated by the Aging Cat-which just goes to show that anything done really well is interesting. Dan Poynter wants to make sure that cats get all nine of their lives. The Older Cat is a cat lover's manual on being the best cat lover and guardian possible. It is about how to be Florence Nightingale to your cat when she is ill. And it is about how to make the difficult decisions about when and how to let go when your cat is dying. As a longevity expert, I was struck with Dan Poynter's data on how, just like humans, cats are living a lot longer. The Older Cat is a comprehensive book on cat care that includes nutrition at different ages, illnesses, warning signs, and working with veterinarians. It is unique in focusing on the issues of aging cats and dealing with their eventual decline and death. Mr. Poynter walks the reader through and holds the reader's hand in giving cats loving care and in making tough decisions. As a psychologist I am particularly struck with how readers will feel they are not alone in making tough decisions, but part of a brotherhood of cat lovers. The Older Cat was striking in how technology is changing cat care. Mr. Poynter recommend getting your vet's E-mail address so you can update the vet on changes in a sick cat's health status. The appendix not only contains information about many books, magazines, cat insurance, support groups, and other resources, it is full of web site addresses and even chat room information. I highly recommend it to all cat lovers-it gets a five mouse rating...

Extending Life--Dealing with Death
This book will help you discover how to determine the real age of your cat, recognize the early signs of decline, slow the aging process, and extend your cat's life. And when your cat nears death, this book will explain your choices. It will help you decide if you should put your cat to sleep, how to minimize the loss to your family and other pets, the grieving process, and your choices regarding burial and memorializing your cat. The Appendix contains many helpful resources.

Cats are living longer than ever, an average of 16 years, due to our increased knowledge of nutrition and improvements in medicine. Sooner or later, every cat will die, but you can help improve both his/her quality and quantity of life.

Highly recommended to anyone with a cat who is more than 10 years old. Protect your cat now! Get this book BEFORE you need it.

The Spirit of Wildness
David Hays, author of this book and editor of The Bugle, captures the spirit of wildness in his essays and captured my heart from the first page. With each essay I felt his passion for the land he loved and his homage to simplicity. Those who find respite in the wonderous western outdoors will feel their hearts swell as each essay is read. This author and his cat enjoyed a life that many of us can only dream of....but then, David Hays taught us that the dreams we have neatly boxed away are meant to be taken off the shelf and lived.

Wisdom litterature
This is a real surprize for anyone unfamiliar with the author or with rich essays that were once part of a newpaere column. They are full of wisdom, humor, and mystery.

a wonderful book
David, I am sorry I didn't tell you how much I liked "Passion below zero." I had been meaning to flirt with you more often. Know that I will flirt more often, and wisely, and I will think of you while I do so.

A Definite Page-Turner!
The Mystery at Half Moon Cove is an engaging and delightful read, with surprises around every corner. Great for kids, teens and adults. I highly recommend this book!

action-packed...entertaining
From Sister Rose's lively karate academy to the dark, cold waters of Sculpin Bay, this action-packed story will thrill you right off your seat! The character interaction is entertaining and believable. Although the main characters in this exciting story are teenagers, it appeals to readers of all ages. This and all the other Kimmy O'Keefe mysteries are consistent and have excellent continuity. I recommend them all.

The Name of the Game Is Death

Hardboiled? You came to the right place, bud.
OK. You got your Chandler who's in love with his own words. You got your Hammett who started the whole thing off. You got a whole lot of other guys--Woolrich, Goodis, Thompson, the whole crew. And you got Dan Marlowe, who is GREAT.

This baby reads like Dan's middle initials are HB and you know what that stands for. No stinting on sex and the main character is smart and tough, too. Is this pulp? Yeah, you bet--the best pulp around. Written in the 50s, it holds up really well because there's no wasted words; Marlowe doesn't spend time showing off like the almighty Raymond does. He just gets right down to business immediately--the novel starts off with a bank robbery and then keeps its toughness straight through to the end.

When one of your crew gets whacked you check it out. That's what drives the book and it's a great driver, pushing and pulling through the guys and dames who make things sexy, ugly, interesting, or just plain crazy til the very end.

Great book for all hardboiled fans. Check it out, pardner.

This is MY favorite hard-boiled book
What can I say? This is just a terrific book. As explosive and unexptected as they come. Any one who loves hard-boiled books has got to read this one.

-Dave Zeltserman, author of In His Shadow

At The Hard End Of Hard-Boiled
To give credit where credit is due this was another recommendation from Gorman's "The Big Book of Noir" and it was right on point. As Gorman says about Marlowe "his best stuff just explodes every thirty pages or so".

Here's an exciting litle excerpt-the protaginost Drake ("the man with nobody's face")is in a motel room with Lucille who-as it turns out-gets her jollies by seducing men and then watching as her boyfriend barges in on them and beats the ... out of the man that Lucille just seduced. Drake, being a tough and smart guy, figures this out and ends up suckering Lucille's boyfriend into breaking into an empty motel room-he leaves frustrated and now Drake has Lucille all to himself."Now what are you going to do?", Lucille asks Drake. To quote the book:"I'll show you," I said. It was four in the morning before we left there. Fifty percent of us had enjoyed it."

What can I say-great book that they just don't make like this anymore.

A Great Way To Learn MS Excel 2000
What a great book!!

Makes learning MS Excel easy by using excercises as you go.

A good method of learning that also doubles as a great reference tool afterwards.

I can't wait to improve my skills with MS Word by using the New Perspective series.

My best Excel book so far!
Forget about those 1000-page reference books. Learn by doing ' that's what I personally believe in. This excellent book contains many examples that you may encounter in real life. The authors will guide you step-by-step through the assignments in the 12 tutorials. The concepts behind each task are well-explained. If you need more hands-on practice, there are numerous exercises at the end of each chapter. By the time you complete the course, you will be confident and eager to impress your boss with your newly-learnt Excel skills.

Tutorial worth its stars
If you're not a programmer, and you want to learn Excel, skip those fat books full of pictures, and don't waste your money on authors that think you're stupid. This isn't some magic bullet; you still have to do the work. I think, however, that this is a better use for your money than one of those 1000-page wastelands. If you're a self-motivated scrapper, this won't just gather dust while you wait for the recycling truck. Get the comprehensive (expert) edition. After you get through this material, you can find a good reference work.(I'm still looking.)

Pagan Rites of Passage
Published in Paperback by Llewellyn Publications (1998)
Authors: Pauline Campanelli, Dan Campaneli, and Dan Campanelli
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

Wonderful Ideas for Pagan Rituals
The Campanellis books are always a treat. Not only is this book cocked full of ideas for Pagan rites of passages; it is full of lore and history as well. Far from the "fluff" bunny books on Pagan topics, this book is useful and down to earth. I adore the Campanellies poetic gentle style of writing, and the pencil drawings are lovely. There are ritual ideas for the coven or for a solitary witch. All useful Pagan libraries should have a copy of this book.

Interesting, informative - and beautiful.
5 years ago, I picked up this book in a bookstore, and was entranced by a way of life that celebrates the seasons of life just as it does the seasons of the year.

This book relates the simple folk customs that have been performed all over the world for different turning points of life, as well as more contemporary Pagan practices, and suggestions from the authors. Eight turning points have been chosen, which have been subtly associated with the 8 seasonal festivals (although they may not occur in this order in your life :) ).

- Birth (Yule)
- Coming of Age (Imbolg)
- Initiation (Ostara)
- Handfasting (Beltane)
- Midlife (Litha)
- Priesthood (Lughnasa)
- Elderhood (Mabon)
- Death (Samhain)

For a single book, it has an amazing range of content, with various tidbits from and about the practices of ancient cultures, and the whys of many customs.
Some examples of variety of content:
From the birth chapter - egyptian charms for both before and during the birth, an italian charm for protection of the baby, excellent suggestions for magickal gift-giving (useful for us non-parents out there!), and baby naming.

An aside -
I was drawn to this book 5 years ago - it was the first* book I read on Paganism - and in retrospect it is still one of a very few books that could have opened me up to the Pagan path.
Although the 'How to' books are very useful, this provided me the initial 'Why to'. A way of life which celebrates, and is never very far from, the sacred.
And, as far as the 'How to' goes, the single chapter on Initiation was more useful than many Pagan/Wicca 101 books I've read (although that also says alot about some of those 101 books...)
It was an overview to be sure, but like the rest of the chapters, it has some really good useful information and it was a good base to start from, with things such as:
A "year and a day" of study Dedication, suggestions as to skills to learn, the why's of keeping a Book of Shadows and Magickal Journal as well as a suggested layout & a consecration ritual, explanations and mythology behind the different tools, magickal names, etc etc etc.

If you are looking for a book about any of the Rites of Passage covered in this book - this really is an excellent resource.

A possible improvement to the book for future editions would be an index, as if you are like me, you will probably be referencing it often.

-- Additional Info --
This IS the same book as "Rites of Passage : The Pagan Wheel of Life" - with a new cover.

Pauline and Dan Campanelli are both artists, you may have seen some of their prints around!

a life of the old ways
this is a wonderful bookare you getting ready for your intitation, maybe a handfast this book shows you rituals to celebrate all kinds of events in life

A excellent guide to writing windows applications.
I've been programming in Visual C++ and Visual Basic since 1993, and I found "Visual Basic Programmer's Guide to the Windows Api/Book" to be a valuable reference manual. Here's what I liked: easy to understand narrative, lots of examples, and a complete structural understanding of windows programming. Using API calls in VB has helped me acheive functionality I was familar with in Visual C++.

This is the best book I have seen for Visual Basic.
I have been programing with Basic since 1975 and I have read and studdied many books on the subject. I work almost strictly in graphics and without this book you can do very little graphics using the standard Visual Basic commands. This book covers every aspect of the API's and has left out very few. The ones that were left out you would probubly never need anyway. I now have Widows 95 and I am going to order his new Programer's guide to the Win32's as I now know that Daniel Appleman is the only one that I can find that really knows the Windows System and how to make Visual Basic do all that stuff that you always wanted to do but never thought you could learn. Jim Alexander

Great book for those curious about Windows' internal process
Visual Basic progammers have often been limited by VB's "keep it safe" policy. This book shows you how to go above and beyond Visual Basic's internal functions, without overstepping its bounds. This book is a must have for anyone who is beginning to feel limited by Visual Basic. Break out of VB's cage
