Keith Douglass does it again
Fan's of the Carrier series and Seal team series will be glad to know that this book is in the tradition of the Keith writings. This is one of the more exciting writer present doing Seal team trilling stories. Weapons, lots of them and their description for those reader not so familar with them. And the individual description of each of the Seal Team 7 character will surely bring you in touch with the present team and you will not feel out of place just reading this book alone, and will surely make you get the rest of his books. Must also read the Carrier Series. Keith is surely one of my favourite Author to date.

Egyptian administrative and private-name seals, principally of the Middle Kingdom and Second Intermediate Period
Published in Unknown Binding by Griffith Institute ()
Author: Geoffrey Thorndike Martin
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

A GREAT EDITION OF MIDDLE KINGDOM DOCUMENTS
This book by the reknown British Egyptologist, Dr. Martin, from University College, London, is a welthy source of prosopographical and onomastical data gathered together from 1838 private- and 71 official-seals (mainly scarabs or scaraboids), dating from the Middle Kingdom and the Second Intermediate Period (including the "Hyksos Age" so-called). The author has not limited himself to publish a minute recording of each and every testimony, but has also commented upon the dating and the typology of this specific historical kind of documents. Highly recommendable for the specialist; a less so, for the beginners.

Well made and very inspirational
I stumbled upon this audiobook when I was going through a bin of [money] tapes at a local discount store, most of which were that cheap for good reason. Being a "motivational" tape I was immediately skeptical, as I usually am with self-help tapes. But having already picked through everything and deciding that death was preferable to listening to OJ Simpson talk about the "real killer" or other celebrities turned activists turned egomaniacs patting themselves on the back for "caring", I took the chance and bought it. I was expecting a lot of mindless sloganeering designed to hype up your emotions and turn off your brain, but I was pleasantly surprised that this tape is in fact very constructive as well as inspiring. Jenner comes off extremely articulate and likable, describing his aimless beginnings as a student content with mediocrity, to suddenly grasping hold of a lofty goal and pursuing it to the point of obsession. Then to achieve it only to once again slowing descend back in to obscurity, mediocrity and aimlessness, until he finally (with a little help from true love) grabbed hold of his life again and now pursues it with as much success and passion as he pursued the Olympic gold. He talks a lot of sense and his experiences are easy to relate to, helping you focus on what really holds one back from taking chances and pursuing success. I've got a lot of audiobooks, probably close to two dozen, but this is one of maybe three tapes that I'll throw in my car stereo as I go about my business and still enjoy listening to it. Good work Bruce!

A Gentle Murderer (Gregg Press Mystery Fiction Series)
Published in Textbook Binding by Gregg Pr (1980)
Author: Dorothy Salisbury Davis
Amazon base price: $11.95
Used price: $18.95
Average review score:

The title of this book is what first caught my eye.
I had never heard of the book or the author, but was intrigued by anyone being a "gentle murderer." And with this story, the reader knows who the murderer is from the very beginning. But I found myself quite caught up in following those who don't know who he is. The first person looking for the killer is the priest who tried to help him in the confessional. Father Duffy hopes that the killer will go to the police, but soon realizes that this isn't going to happen. So he begins his search for the man who reminded him of pictures of St. Francis. And when the murder is discovered, the police are soon also looking for this unknown killer. Sergeant Ben Goldsmith begins his search. The question becomes, can either the priest or the police find the killer before there is a risk that he might kill again? As the search continues, Duffy and Goldsmith's paths cross. And they both know how important it is to find this killer.

The Lingo: Listening to Australian English

A light chinwag
Seal follows his opening quote "Think with the wise but talk with the vulgar". I found this book magnetic. I picked it up because it was relevant to my univesity degree, but it's content is also personally interesting and entertaining. This book is not for those who prefer their literature sanitised. Seal lists in detail Australianisms that underlie modern folklore, and swearing, profanity and a healthy disdain for authority are basic to that lore. Australian language is shown here to be so much more than English.

The Revelation Poems: An Interpretation of the Seven Seals
Published in Paperback by Russell L. Smith/BPS Systems (1999)
Authors: Russell L Smith and Russell L. Smith
Amazon base price: $12.60
Average review score:

not a light read
If you looking for a little light read, a lilting limerick or a tome of Biblical drudgery, this ain't it. Being the Recovering-Catholic,Earth Mother that I am, anything even vaguely Biblical usually turns me off before I can get turned on. But this author is a serious scholar of the Bible who has fun messing with his readers mind, be she devout fundamentalist, cynical atheist or a genuine VW Bus driving Gefilte Fish bumper sticker bearing Unitarian Universalist. The Revelation Poems is worth the read and the bucks.
