Sammy The Seal
Sammy the Seal lives in a zoo in the city. One day, as Mr Johnson was feeding the seal, he asked Sammy waht was the matter; as Sammy was looking very sad indeed. He told Mr Johnson that he wanted to get out of the zoo, and have a look around the city. He looked at everything, but soon it was too hot for him, and he ended up taking a swim in a man's bath tub. He then found a liune of children waiting to go to school. Sammy learned to read and write, and he was very good at vollyball. After school was out, Sammy went home to the zoo. He was glad to be home--it was supper time.

Excellent
This was the first book my mother read to me, i memorized it because i asked her to read it to me every night. That's how i learned to read by the time I was 3.5 years old or so, which got me ahead in classes. Now, ending my junior year in high school, i pop out the book when i get stressed out and read it to myself...even though i know the words without opening the book. Buy it! you'll love it!

I loved this book!
I couldn't believe I still had the original Sammy The Seal book I had when I was a child! (This just proves how much I cherished it!) I am so delighted that I can pass it on to my 6 year old son as he learns to read. I highly recommend this book and others by Syd Hoff.

Compelling plot !
Dawn Strike, by Phil Gothro, is a very good story. I liked it a lot. It's a tale about a Navy Seal sent on a journey of danger, intrigue, and political backstabbing. The characters are well-developed and the plot compelling. The reason I gave Mr. Gothro's book four-stars instead of five was because of the obvious lack of editing. I would also like to add the lack of editing by the publisher of this book was not a distraction in the flow of the story. I liked the story a lot.

Dawn Strike
Griping, i could not put it down, If you like action that feels real than this is the book for you!

Gripping adventure mystery with lots of action.
A very gripping book of a Seal that escalates his role with every step he takes, with every step being logical next steps. In the book he gives you all the clues to figure out the next stage of whats happening as well, as well as the the clues to figure out who and where the action will be. How good of a investigator are you?
As far as all the items that are used in the Book, whether military or civilian are actual items, with some minor changes to fit into the storyline, which makes the story very believeable. All the locations and the buildings are actual places.
The surprise ending is a real twister, though he gave the clue early on, it was very discreet.
A very gripping book that is hard to put down once one gets into it.

Famous "Survivor" included in book
I haven't read this book, but I did notice that the first chapter is devoted to Rudy of "Survivor" fame, who holds the record for longest service in naval special warfare.

Couldn't put this one down
This was a great book!! I started it on a Friday & was finished by Sunday. 15 great stories told by the men who lived it. A must read if you enjoy SEAL books.

Great Book about SEALS in the Vietnam War
This is a great book about 15 SEALS and their experiences from training to the Vietnam war and life in the teams. It is interesting to read about the different personalities of this elite group and the things that make them alike. Highly recommended.

The Leadership Lessons of the U.S. Navy SEALS

Authors: Jeff Cannon, Commander Jon Cannon, and Jon Cannon

It's okay
I was surprised at the high marks given. The book was okay at best.

Insightful!
If you've declared war on your company's lackluster performance, this book will help you launch an all-out assault. Leadership Lessons of the Navy Seals demonstrates through the experiences of this elite military unit of Sea, Air and Land commandos that combat lessons can apply to the corporate world. The book provides examples of SEAL tactics and missions, along with their corporate applications, particularly in strong team building. Authors Jeff Cannon and Lt. Cmdr. Jon Cannon combine their experience in business and the U.S. Navy in a no-nonsense, practical guide. They zero in on setting goals and commanding your troops with deadly accuracy. While their problem-solving text gets straight to the point, it isn't novel and they repeat lessons under different titles. The book is a laundry list, a useful approach in allowing you to choose what you need. We from getAbstract found that the Cannons fire off a good how-to book for corporate strategists who want to develop battle plans for improving their teams and organizations.

Finally...drop the feel good bs, and learn to actually LEAD
I found this book to be extremely straight forward, simple to understand, useful, and applicable to a wide variety of of settings. Simply put, whether you lead from a board room or a locker room, you're spinning your wheels unless you understand and/or follow these basic leadership principles. I'm absolutely sick of wasting my time sitting in pointless meetings, and meandering around in circles with well-intentioned, but unfocused MANAGERS when what is really needed are LEADERS. This book uses time-tested (and battle-tested), proven approaches to define your mission, build a winning team that people are proud to be part of, and kick butt! The SEALS have been doing this since their inception, and it's just plain common sense to learn from their experience.
It's refreshing to finally read about the SEAL culture, and not be inundated with self flatuating hero worship. This book will help you build a winner...you can't lead from the rear!

Death Before Dawn: Seal Strike!

Top Notch Adventure!
I couldn't put this book down. It was a great story filled with just enough technical material to give it authenticity without being tedious. The author takes you for an insiders look into the SEALs and their combat methodology. The characters are believable and compelling. I just ordered the author's new book The Warrior Code: SEAL Strike Book Two. ... Two Thumbs up!!!

Fast Paced Military Adventure!
Touched my heart like no other book ever has. It was very informative and it gave me insight on what could possibly be going on in Iraq. The Navy SEALS and the rest of our military continue to fight for OUR Freedom and we should be nothing but grateful! The SEALS are truly the unsung heros.

GOD BLESS our Military Men and Women.

A wonderful heroic tale!
This was one of the smoothest reads I've ever experienced. I used to read Tom Clancy but the stories became bogged down in a ton of boring techno-detail. Mr. Strong's first effort is obviouly directed at readers who want to learn more about the inside world of the elite SEALs without becoming eligible for college credit. I enthusiastically endorse this novel to anyone who enjoys a fast paced action oriented story about real life heroes. I'm sure the missions outlined in this book are being conducted all over the world now that we are at war with terror.

Overview of fitness
First off this book is not a "how to" manual with carefully laid out programs. It does have some suggestions on how to build up running distance but don't expect much more. What you can look forward to is a great basic reference for exercises and related inuries and their treatment. Very basic. If you read it carefully you'll find valuable information and it will point you in the right direction in terms of specialized training (basics of plyometrics, weight training, importance of stretching etc), but you'll need to get some other books on these subjects to fill in the gaps. This is not something for a complete beginner.

If you are new to working out consider Stew Smiths'The Complete Guide to Navy SEAL Fitness, you will not be disappointed, an excellent book. From beginner to advanced you can't go wrong.

Actually I bought The Navy Seal Workout by Mark DeLisle way before I ever came across these other books and consider it OK but not great. It's a thin book padded with pictures but DeLisles' pyramiding scheme for chin ups is excellent and it has good upper body workout plans but no lower body(leg)workouts.

After working out for many years I considered myself in good shape in terms of strength and endurance, these books proved how wrong I was.

Navy SEAL Physical Fitness Guide
This is by far the best book of its type I have ever read. I have read or reviewed a variety of books on SEAL training and this one is the best in its explanations of how a person trains to develop those qualities from their body that they want in order to meet their fitness goals. I'm not a SEAL and I am not in the military, but I am impressed with the training that SEAL's go through in order to develop themselves into the elite warriors that they are. This book tells you how to correctly get yourself into excellent shape and tells you how to do it safely. It offers a balance approach to physical fitness development. The book does not offer much in the way of specific exercise programs like other books on SEAL training do. It offered one, but it takes longer than most lay people will have time to do. However, after reading it you should be able to develop your own program. Of course, the book was not written for me, it was written for SEAL's, or SEAL's in training. Exercise programs are part of their jobs, so they have the time to do 2 hours of calisthenics before they run for an hour and after they have been swimming for an hour.

Great book
I liked the book, it was a good help designing workouts. I do have to say though, that the swim workouts were a bit corny-this comes from someone who swam NCAA div. I in college. I mean COME ON, nose plugs? Blow bubbles for crying out loud. Other than that brief passage, I was rather impressed. On the other hand, we did get a hearty chuckle over it at the pool, so you could say this book is humorous too.

Flawed effort
This otherwise solid account of naval special warfare (NSW) history is marred by two severe flaws: understating the roles of Scouts & Raiders and Capt. Phil H. Bucklew in NSW history, and providing an inaccurate account of SEAL origins.
Though Orr Kelly used Capt. Bucklew's oral history, he did so selectively and exclusively. Therefore, readers aren't told that S&Rs were always part of the amphibious force, earned 8 Navy Crosses for Opn TORCH; that they participated in every European theater landing, trained counterpart units such as the 6th Ranger Bn, worked with guerrillas in the Balkans (later in the Philippines & China); that Bucklew earned 2 Navy Crosses & a Silver Star for missions at Sicily, Salerno & Omaha Beach, then went on to become 1st CO, NavOpnsSupportGp, Pacific, supervising SE Asia ops for UDTs, SEALs, boat units and Beach Jumpers, then on to the Pentagon, in charge of all NSW ops. Which is why the Navy named its NSW Center building after Captain Bucklew.
In Ch. 6 we read that SEAL teams were established as the result of a letter to CNO written by UDT-22 CO, LCDR Bill Hamilton, circa June 1961; that as a result he was assigned to a CNO office overseeing SEAL establishment. In fact, months before Hamilton ever arrived there, the Navy had already discussed & approved SEAL mission profile, training, manpower, equipment, etc. Authorization was preordained. So, Hamilton entered a fait accompli situation & became part of the team effort, working for Capt. Harry S. Warren.
Roy Boehm was never "acting commander" of SEAL Team 2, nor did he send men to special schools beforehand. That came AFTER ST-2 was established, which occurred on 8 Jan 1962. Like Hamilton, Boehm was part of a team effort to get ST-2 underway.
SEAL Team 1, LT David Del Giudice CO, was established 1 Jan. 1962, thus becoming the first SEALs.
For documentation of the above, see "What A Tangled Web we Weave" in the 2nd Qtr 2002 UDT-SEAL Assn. mag, THE BLAST.

Chronology
I have read this book and it provides a documented history with names, places and times from DOD, and firsthand accounts of actions SEALS have participated in (including Viet Nam,to Patilla Airstrip, Panama, later in ODS. It finishes with the conclusion that there is a dilemma as to where the future of SpecWar is going. The individual chapters make great short period reading.
Need to do research? Get this book.

The essential "History of the Navy SEALs"
There are a lot of books on the SEAL teams out there, but unfortunately most are largely fiction. This is as good as it gets. Orr Kelly has done an outstanding job getting inside this closed community, as evident in his spot on terminology. The chapter on the invasion of Granada is one of two sources used in just about everything written on that incident. From a research/historical perspective, this book is worth the price for that chapter alone. No Special Ops library is complete without it.

3 Reasons to buy in spite of the free ARM PDFs
Most everything here is in ARM's free databook PDFs. So why buy it? (1) It is cheaper than printing those huge PDFs. (2) It is easier to read. (3) It gives some history and tips that are difficult to find in the PDFs, but help us all write better code.

One complaint: poor binding. Manuals should be bound so they lay flat on a desk and stay open to the page being referenced. The fact that my cheif complaint has nothing to do with the content says volumes about this book.

Good buy.

Great Reference Manual
Covers everything you might need to know about ARM assembly language programming. It has three sections: A. CPU Architecture - ARM instruction set (regular and Thumb) - ARM addressing modes - Examples B. Memory and System Architecture -System Control Coprocessor, MMU, Protection Unit, Caches and Write Buffers C. Vector Floating Point Architecture - Formats, instructions and addressing modes For a more broad and general introduction into ARM Furber's book is excellent and should be purchased first(unless you are just need a reference manual).

Gotta have it
If you work with an ARM processor of any type, you simply must have this book. It is *the* reference, -- the best source of exact instruction details, as well as memory management unit details. If you need an introduction to the ARM family, Furber's "ARM System Architecture" makes a better tutorial introduction, but if you're writing code for the ARM, you need this one.

A very interesting book
A very interesting book. I enjoyed it. It is for all people who like Navy SEAL's

Great Book
Gary Smith tells about his five tours of duty as a Navy Seal in Vietnam through three different books: Death in the Jungle, Death in the Delta and Master Chief. All of these well written books are exceptional in that they not only tell the story of terror filled seconds during battle, but Smith also talks about the sheer boredom and mundane tasked that must be done. His stories about killing VC - VC ants that is, while waiting on ambushes are funny in otherwise near death incounters. Smith is able to talk about the inhumane acts that occur in war just as he is able to talk about the fun times. I was brought to tears while reading about the mother and baby killed during an ambush of a Junk and equally shed tears of laughter when he cooked "Venison" that barked!

Smith does an exceptional job interspersing Vietnamese words and phrases in all three books which gives the read a sense that Smith was a professional that took the time to increase his advantage by learning their language. The one criticism I can point out is that he listed too many of the overnight ambushes. It became hard to distinguish one from another after awhile. I also get the feeling that there is much more to tell about his tour with the PRU but that it might bring up too many unpleasant memories.

Finally, Smith makes a one sentence statement that Captain Gormly was one of the best COs he ever served under which speaks volumes about both warriors. A Very good set of books and I recommend these to anyone interested in getting a birds eye view of war from a Seal's perspective.

If you love the Navy SEALs, you gotta read it!
It is a very well written book that takes a good look at the SEALs in Vietnam. It is very detailed and makes you think you were really in these situations.

Basic Stick Fighting for Combat (Special Forces/Ranger-Udt/Seal Hand-To-Hand Combat/Special Weapons/Special Tactics Series)

Author: Michael D. Echanis

Used price: $8.94

Average review score:

Believe the title!
Echanis isn't kidding when he calls it basic. He opens with a brief history and overview of stick fighting, then divides the rest of the book into four sections by weapon, one each for the baton, short stick, snapping short stick, and cane. He gives one to two pages of text about each weapon, and the rest of each chapter is just photos of stances, drills, and moves, presented without any comment.

If you're looking for a very simple outline-like primer, this is your book, but if you want a detailed resource, move on.

An Unfinished Classic
This book was one of the first of the post-Vietnam era "military martial arts" books. It is the third (and last) in a proposed series of nine books presenting Echanis' Special Forces applications of Hwarangdo. The author died while the book was in production, and it shows. The text is not nearly so detailed as in his first two books, and two sections were photographed using other people (one with his instructor, one with one of his training partners). Still, this book sports some excellent combat applications using various lengths of sticks. As in most Ohara books, the photos are of good quality. While many books have dealt with the topic of stick fighting in greater depth since this one was published, this book is a fine addition to the library of anyone who is interested in martial arts for combat.

Excellent book!
Mike Echanis was the living, breathing definition of a warrior.I
wish that he had lived longer so I could have studied stick and
knife combat under him.His books are the next best thing, and I
feel that this text on sticks is a must have for anyone who has
an interest in stick fighting. His techniques are simple to learn,
but deadly effective. Why anyone would put down his work is beyond
me.
