Navy Seals in Vietnam.
As if we don't have enough books about Special Forces in Vietnam, here is still another one. Dockery's writings do not have the flow, and this short book takes longer than needed. The reader gets information about some of the missions, equipment, and the Brown Water Navy. The Navy Seals did not contribute as much as the Marines and Army in Vietnam. Still we get another book about Special Forces.

Unconventional Layout For Unconventional Warfare.
This book is written differently than most books I've read, and its a nice break when you're constantly reading. It seems that every other chapter is dedicated to giving backround information on how equipment/lines of intel etc. work and operate, the subsequent chapters build off that information without the reader getting lost on meaningless details. Maps are also included which arent necessary but give the reader an idea of what part of the country these events took place. Quiggs review has pretty much nothing to do with the book, im not sure he even read it.

Dockery a Master in SEAL OP's writing
I know Kevin Dockery personally. He is a master in writing SEAL history and his background search is complete. QUIG's review is absurd, he has no military background equivalent to SEAL's. He should stick to reading other topics that fit his mentality.
Dockery's book is worth every bit of reading. J.H. "Hoot" Andrews, USN, Ret., Plankowner, SEAL Team TWO

Solitare not Alone
Mr Murray has a wonderful series on his hands, my only complaint is they haven't they made at least one movie about Getts and Peach yet? With so many bad films, these seem a natural winner because of the great characters Murray builds for us. I read the stories almost non-stop when I started them. At first glance the cover made me think these books were just excuses to fire guns and blow things up, what a plesant surprise to find he can really write great stories and facinate us with tech warfare as well. Move over Clancey, you've had your turn.

It work both ways...
First let me say, I admire Mr. Murray's books.

I have only one nitpick. With food poioning, the body tries expelling the contents of the stomach and intestines from both ends. Therefore, Peach would have been cleaning more than the Princess' hands and face.

Otherwise, I was kept guessing as to who the "insider" was and how he/she would be dealt with.

I'm not ready to have Peach enter retirement. It would be interesting to have Peach and the Princess' relationship need the help of the team of Peach and Getts.

Ex Navy Reader
This is the first book I have read by Mike Murray, but if the rest of his books are as good as this one then He has a best selling series. I rank him up there with the best, his storyline is great and believable the plot is good his characters are alive and you could follow them into another story. Most Seal series are too phony, the people are plastic types all from the same mold, too perfect never really seem to be alive. Mike has done a terrific job of building each of his characters. I look forward to the next one.

You Can Do Better Than That
When I pick up a book on the oral history of the Navy SEALs, I expect a book about the SEALs, or at least stories from SEALs. That is NOT what this book is. It is more a collection of stories from members of UDT as they were being phased out and SEALs were coming in, some of whom became SEALs, many of whom did not. It should have included more interviews from people who started with the SEALs, as well as those who switched to SEALs from UDT so as to present a more balanced approach to the story. At least, that is what I would have preferred to see. However, the book was by no means a failure. The stories of the men interviewed were well worth purchase price. But the book really could have focused more on the stories of SEALs as opposed to UDT.

Great read, very interesting
Takes you from the UDT beginning, to the creation of SEAL team 1,some not too common knowledge. And some stories about the human interest.

The Teams: An Oral History Of The U.S. Navy SEALs
I have read a couple books about the SEAls but I have to say this was the best yet. While reading it I could barly put it down because it was so action packed and it described what SEAL training is like and some of the missions SEALs went with great detail and enthusiasm. Over all I found this to be an exellent book

In Harm's Way (#7)
I have read all of the previous Navy Seals books by Riker. This one was not nearly as "gripping" as the others. It seemed to take too long to develope. Not bad to read, but it was too easy to put the book down as I read the story.

In Harm's Way
I have read all of Mr. Riker's books on Navy Seals and enjoyed each quite a bit. They struck me as being well-researched, as well as a rip-snorting read. This one is no exception as he continues the development of the characters Twidge Halstead and Doc Tangretti. I especially liked the way he dealt with the emotions they felt when they returned from Nam to come face-to-face with the anti-war movement. As a former serviceman, I almost felt that aspect as too close to home. Even though I noticed some errors in the way he had submarines do business in the last of In Harm's Way it was only a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent read.

Missed opportunity, or mis-titled
Dockery's book is titled "a history," but it's not.
This book is an Ode to the Navy Seal, and there are many personal stories in the "there I was in the jungle" and "the making of a Navy Seal" veins, but any type of overview, or where the Seals fit into the overall strategy, or critical analysis of how the political considerations driving the civilian leadership either directed or limited the actions of the Seals, is largely missing. Analysis is largely limited to "the President said go, and we went." Even the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August 1964, widely acknowledged to be mistaken, is accepted at face value. The many interviews quoted at length give the book a very episodic feel. There is, I believe, not one negative word about the Seals, or their success in Vietnam, in this book.
The pictures and narratives are good in giving the reader a sense of what it's like to be a Seal, how the Seals operate on their missions, the tools they use, and how important the concept of "team" is to the effectiveness of the Seals. Buy it for this purpose, if you wish, but not to gain any concept of history.

One of the best accounts of the UDT/SEAL Teams in Vietnam!
This is the second volume of Kevin Dockery's collection of oral history of the Navy SEALs. His first volume, 'Navy SEALs: A History Of The Early Years' was released about a year ago. I believe a third and final volume about the Navy SEALs and their operations during the Persian Gulf conflict will be released next year.
In part two of this fascinating history of the Navy SEALs Kevin Dockery again presents a collection of oral accounts by former UDT and SEAL team members. Famous, former, frogmen like Richard Marcinko (Commander, USN (Ret.)) and Governor Jesse Ventura are just some of the SEALs that recount their operations during the South East Asian conflict.
My favorite feature about this second volume are the numerous rare black and white photographs depicting the UDT and SEAL team members in action.
If you have enjoyed Chief James Watson's 'Point Man' and all the other Richard Marcinko books, then you will definitely want to read 'Navy SEALs: A History Part II: The Vietnam Years.

Seal Island School
This book is about kids who go to Seal Island School. Every year they get a new teacher because they think the island is to lonely. (There's only 42 people on it) Pru, one of the children, really likes the new teacher Miss. Spencer and is afraid she'll go away like all the other teachers. Pru finds out that Miss. Spencer wants a dog, so she and her friend Nicholas work hard to raise money to buy one. I'm not going to tell you what happens in the end because I think you should read the book!

Delightful characters and story.
This story of a two-room school house is the perfect beginning chapter book for young readers. It has likeable characters who make the story believable, and descriptions that help the reader picture the island community in their mind. This would also be a wonderful "read-aloud" book for teachers of students in the second, third, and possibly fourth grade.

Sub Par
SEAL Sniper is by no means an instruction manual. It provides good insight to the Naval Special Warfare Sniper Training but not much more. Unless you are already knowledgable in sniping this book is not for you. However if you are familair with that field then you may enjoy this book. If you know how you make a proper ghillie suit, you will have a good laugh at some of the pictures in the back.

Most of the pictures seem to be photocopied sketches. If you don't know "sniper" terminology, you will get lost in this book.

Read this after you read something like 'Ultimate Sniper' or get some type of training.

From the fist step to the last in sniping
From the fist step to the last in sniping, no words just read it.

Will leave you waterlogged
This book consists of stories from frogman types from WWII to the early seventies. Most SEAL books are about ambush missions and escapes in the Mekong Delta, this book mostly takes place in the water. Much of this book is about the rigors of UDT/SEAL training, yeah you've read that before, but this book gives the reader a glimse of various experiences. As a scuba diver I liked this book because it takes you where few SEAL books go, underwater. I read this book for motivation while attending the USMC small boat raid course at Coronado, CA and felt as waterlogged from this book as from the training. This book consists of short, unrelated stories, and makes for great browse reading and has some good history of WWII UDT ops.

A great book full of true stories from those who lived it !
This super informative book is a great follow-up to Darryl Young's first book, The Element of Surprise. It is full of stories told by SEALs all the way from Jack Tomlinson, artist of Freddy the Frog, to Chris Caracci of SEAL Team Six. This book descriptively explores topics such as combat reconnaissance, hydrographic surveys, space capsule recovery, submarine lock-ins and lock-outs,and ambush potrols! If you want to know everything you can about the Teams without actually being a SEAL, this is the book for you!

No big Secrets Revealed here, but still a useful book.
All of Anna Rivas books are fun, and pretty much simple enough that every one can understand them. Secrets of Magical Seals, does not really reveal any secrets. It is an illustrated guide of magical seals. 60+ page booklet is packed jammed with Seals used in many Magical and Occult Philosophies. The booklet has Seals of the Days and Seasons. Magic Tables, Seals and Symbols of the Planets, magic Squares of Abra Melin, Seals of Solomon, Astrological Symbols, and Signs, Seals of the Spirits. ( <--- I found this Section very Useful) Egyptian Symbols, Seals of the Sage of the Pyramids, Seals from the 6th and 7th books of Moses, Islamic Talismans, Gnostic Seals, Shields of the Saints, Power Squares, Chinese Seals, Voodoo Veves. "I have seen many Voodoo Veves, but I have never seen these. Voodoo Veves are more complex and ritualistic, these presented here seamed childlike and simple." And lastly Japanese Talismans.

My favorite part of all of Anna Rivas books are the prayers and invocations, which are usually scattered through out the books. At seeing this book I thought there where none, but was happy to find a collection of Protection and other prayers in the last two pages of the book. Also check. out her other books sold on Amazon.com

A Somewhat Handy Little Guide
This book doesn't contain an overwhelming amount of text, but does provide black-and-white pictures of a number of magickal seals. This book covers an eclectic variety of seals: Seals of Solomon, Seals from the 6th & 7th Books of Moses, Abra-Melin squares, Anna Riva's voodoo veves and more. There is precious little text, but if you need a brief guidebook providing basic identification of commonly used occult seals, this might prove to be helpful. Its primary use would be as an identification tool, to be used in conjunction with other magickal texts.

OH NO! What a delightful book!
My husband and I have read this book to both our are daughters during their babyhood and toddler years, and they loved it! The bright illustration of silly seals taking over the park, and the anticipation of yelling "OH NO" when the seals are discovered adds to the delight!
