If you want to be an opportunity seeker, this is it!
I would rank this book side by side with Edward de Bono's "Opportunities" & Nigel MacLennan's "Opportunity Spotting."

In the field of opportunity search, these are the only three books that have been written on the subject, as far as I know.

Strategy-wise, and from the strategic business/competitive perspective, this book has an EDGE over the other two books. He has identified the ten opportunity-sensitive areas (or windows of opportunity) in business, and also outlined strategies and tips to help you work out your action plans to pursue them systematically. In a way, he has expanded on what Peter Drucker has covered earlier in the latter's book, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

I have and also read all the author's other books. His forte is strategic thinking - more precisely, strategic exploration. Excellent stuff throughout, with penetrating insights and real-world examples to follow, and the author's writing is very crisp, succinct and clear, !just like his other books.

If you want to be an opportunity seeker, buy and read it religiously.

Instructional Media and Technologies for Learning
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall College Div (1999)
Authors: Robert Herrick, Michael Molenda, James D. Russell, and Sharon E. Smaldino
Amazon base price: $68.00
Average review score:

Nice update of a classic textbook
As a co-author, I can report that Instructional Media upholds the tradition established by this textbook in 1982. It is aimed primarily at those who are at the entry level in terms of using media for education or training. It helps instructors decide what media to use for different teaching/learning situations, and gives practical tips on HOW to achieve the best effect when using technology. The book began with a focus on audiovisual media; the sixth edition retains the most relevant audiovisual content, but shifts focus toward computer-based delivery. What remains constant is the conviction that effectiveness of mediated instruction depends very much on what the instructor does...how the technology is integrated into the overall learning program.

Introduction to Biocatalysis Using Enzymes and Microorganisms
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (2003)
Authors: S. M. Roberts, Nicholas J. Turner, Andrew J. Willetts, and Michael K. Turner
Amazon base price: $60.00
Average review score:

An excellent intro to chemistry's future.
Although this book is, by the standards of technical progress these days, "old," it remains flawless in describing not only what was known then, but what remains the bulk of biocatalytic theory and practice now.

Since this synthetic approach has already demonstrated itself to be a cornerstone of so many industries (particularly the pharmaceutical industry) -- and since so many people don't know much about it and yet *fear* it, an understanding such as this book gives could not be more important to everyone -- especially scientists.

The author of this book succeeded in scoring a bullseye on a fast-moving target! Anyone interested in the chemistry of the future -- the chemistry that *already* is essential for perhaps most of our latest drugs should get this book.

One final kudo for this book: it's price is reasonable! Compare it to similar books on technical subjects. This kind of thing usually costs three or four times what this one does.

This book is the most accessible, informative book on a subject that has so far eluded other authors if they meant to speak to anyone but their peers.

Get it. You will not be sorry.

Iron Mountain 5635 -- A Must Read!
Something interesting happens to me when I read a really good, thought-provoking book: the book stays with me. That has definitely happened with "Iron Mountain 5635", by Robert Michaels. The author managed to weave an exciting tale that is full of action, yet thoughtfully infused with unique philosophical ideas (and ideals), scientific information and enough emotion to draw the reader in personally. I found myself thinking about the book's protagonist, Eric Larsen, during the course of my day. Now, although I have finished reading the book, I am not through applying some of the science and philosophy to my own life. Don't miss this captivating novel!

Is It Really Worth Dying For?
Buy this book! Learn to refocus the positive aspects of your type A personality for success. Don't let the title fool you. This is not about sitting back in a rocking chair after your first coronary event. Instead, this cardiologist who's as Type A as the rest of us explains how to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em in dealing with personal, professional and day-to-day social hassles. A great chapter on self talk and how it can frustrate adult stress. And a great chapter with quizzes on dealing with stresses. Take the quizzes on separate sheets of paper, date them, share them or have your significant other take them the same way as well. Periodic readings of this book got me from my first MI through 15 years of middle age, an angioplasty, and my recent triple bypass. The physical predisposition to coronary problems was genetic. My successful adjustment to the stress factors was all from the book, discovered as part of my original coronary rehabilitation in 1985. Read this book. Lead a better life. Buy copies for friends! Enjoy!

Mesmerizing
Few Americans are familiar with James Stirling's work which is a shame. He was one of the three or four great high-tech architects. Maybe not as high-tech as Rogers or Foster yet maybe more intuitive and with more feel. His work also had a post-modern flair. He was a few years ahead of some of the most famous architects of today and if you look closely enough at Stirling's work you may notice how they all may have been influenced by Stirling. The book itself is a good representation of his work but the photos are somewhat small and in black and white. The book gets 5 stars because Stirling was a master.

Great children's book for subway lovers
Silly and fun. Every child will love the story about poor Jonathan who couldn't clean his room thanks to the crowds of people leaving the subway station that was magically connected to it. The illustrations are wonderfully rendered.

The Leader Within_you

Autobiographical, biographical, inspirational, instructive
Bob Danzig was the senior corporate executive in charge of the Hearst Newspaper Group for two decades. During that time-and through his career leading up to that point, he met movers and shakers and a lot of "ordinary" people who made a difference in one way or another. In this book, he's tried to capture a wide range of experiences and perspectives-almost too much-to make his points about leadership.

The autobiographical thread starts at the beginning of the book and continues all the way through. If you're interested in selected aspects of the life of a highly involved newspaper man, this book will provide you with one historical anecdote after another. Danzig shares many of his experiences with people of significance and, well, other people of a different kind of significance. His professional life story weaves through the book-in disjointed pieces. I found myself wanting a stronger stream of consciousness, a more connected flow of this man's life. He is obviously a key player kind of person, but the reader never gets a full story of Danzig, the man.

To present and illustrate his nine powers of leadership, Danzig shares the stories of men and women who exemplify the powers he enumerates. He provides evidence for his points, describing how each role model lived the power he describes. Then a third person's comments are inserted to validate Danzig's points by lauding the celebrity. Some of these role models are well-known. Others are not as familiar to us, if known at all. As one example follows another in a well-designed flow, they help Danzig make his powerful points about the role of leadership.

Readers will learn about 9 Powers: Quality, Innovation, Inspiration, Perseverance, Passion, Character, Charisma, Energy and Enthusiasm. The instructional thread can be followed, interwoven with the autobiographical and biographical threads. While sharing some of the experiences of an important newspaper man, you'll gain from the knowledge and perspective he learned from the people he met and quoted in this book.

For a thought-provoking and inspirational read, pick up a copy of The Leader within You. You'll learn a lot about leadership, the leader with in you, and what you can achieve with the resources you have.

The Leadership Gym
Though considerably biased as one of the authors, I have asked countless students (leadership course at the graduate level), professors and industry leaders to review this book and provide feedback. The vast majority have indicated a strong consensus that it is an excellent basic guide to entry level and mid-level managers who are in search of tools and techniques to enhance their skills in leading people.

These same tools and techniques that are defined in the book, plus many others, are part of the curriculum in the Project Management Master of Science Program at the University of Texas at Dallas. The evaluations have been particularly good and for that, I thank my co-authors, Tom Berliner and Rob Van Til...two of the brightest minds and down-to-earth approaches to leading people that I've ever encountered.

Thanks for your time...

Can't wait to see this one. Lilla and Dworkin is like a collaboration between Ken Vandermark and Wynton Marsalis.
