Andre Citroen: The Man and the Motor Cars
Published in Paperback by Sutton Publishing Ltd (24 June, 1999)
Author: John Reynolds
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

you'll be impressed
For those with even a passing interest in Citroen cars or the company's founder this book will prove educational and fascinating. The Citroen car, though scarce in the US, is always reverred by automotive journalists, when they are forced to write about the cars. For instance, Autoweek Magazine's inclusion of Citroens in their greatest cars of the century issue. Okay the book, it is well written unlike so many auto books; entertaining, full of interesting info about Andre Citroen's unlikely role as auto entrepreneur, and Paris and France. Mostly, you will be very impressed by the relatively unknown (in USA) Citroen company's major contributions to automotive engineering and efforts in World War II. If you consider yourself knowledgable of cars, include this book and you never refer to a Citroen as an ugly car again. I read this book at the library and probably will buy my own copy.

Andre Dubus: Tributes
Published in Paperback by Xavier Review Press (15 December, 2001)
Authors: Donald Anderson and Thomas, Jr. Bonner
Amazon base price: $15.95
Average review score:

Moving tribute to an important American writer
Andre Dubus wrote what is arguably the best short fiction of our generation. His stories are powerful and stay with the reader long after the book has been closed. The same is true of this book of tributes. Andre Dubus 111 wrote the foreword to the collection, a beautiful tribute to his relationship with his father. Tobias Wolff wrote the afterword. In between these pieces the book is filled with brief, intensely personal stories of the impact Andre had on people's lives. Contributors include Lee K. Abbott, Frederick Busch, James Lee Burke, Chris Offutt, Robert Olmstead, Tim Parrish, and many other fine writers. This book is an essential part of Andre's work, and should be read by anyone who admires his fiction.

The All-Time Greatest Book
I recently bought a used copy of this book here. I had already read much of it in college, and it is wonderful. ...

In particular, the book includes Gide's "Le Retourde L'Enfant Prodigue," which is my favorite work of his. There are also selections from nearly all of Gide's works, and complete translations of "L'Immoraliste" and "La Symphonie Pastorale" are included.

Andre Gorz: A Critical Introduction (Modern European Thinkers)
Published in Hardcover by Pluto Press (01 November, 1997)
Authors: Conrad Lodziak and Jeremy Tatman
Amazon base price: $55.00
Used price: $39.99
Average review score:

An excellent overview of the work of Andre Gorz
This is the only book concerned with charting Gorz's philosophical and political development from the 1950's to the present. Tatman and Lodziak sympathetically examine these developments in relation to the changing social and political context, and challenge common misrepresentations of Gorz's work. They also highlight the relevance of Gorz's contemporary proposals within a context of growing unemployment.

Andres Bello Y LA Lengua Culta: LA Estandarizacion Del Castellano En America En El Sigo XIX
Published in Paperback by Society of Spanish & Spanish (1993)
Author: Alfredo Torrejon
Amazon base price: $30.00
Average review score:

Bello y la Lengua Culta
The subtitle of this book, La Estandarizacion del Castellano en America en el Siglo XIX, is certainly descriptive of what the author sets out to do. In its four chapters, I. Consideraciones metodologicas, II. Ideas estandarizadoras de Bello, III. La Gramatica de Bello como codificacion del castellano culto, IV. Influencia de Bello en la teoria gramatical actual, the author discusses in detail, with copious citations referenced to the extensive bibliography, the antecedents to Bello's Gramatica back to Nebrija's 1492 book and forward to current structural grammars. All of this amply supports his two main conclusions: that "el primer medio, la reforma ortografica, fracaso. Pero esto no se debio a una falta de adecuacion, sino a que chocaron sus empenos con prejuicios muy arraigados."(incidentally, William Bull makes a similar comment in his book on teaching Spanish); and that "el segundo intento, representado principalmente por su Gramatica... tuvo un exito que fue mas alla de lo esperado". Of particular interest to this reviewer are the discussion of noun declensions and their relationship to the original Latin, and the discussion of verb conjugations and their relationship to temporal and aspectual aspects of the Spanish verb. The author interestingly compares Spanish writers, American writers, and the Royal Academies of Spain and France with Bello. The book is well researched, well written, and a joy to read. Indicentally, the author discusses his term Lengua Culta early in the book.

Awesome on the inside
This book is great! It gives a brief overview of 35 different animals, with interesting descriptions of each animal and a large colorful picture of the insides with the outer view as well. I enjoy using it in my preschool class even though it is "rated" for ages 9 -12. With its bright pictures and informative tidbits, it would make a great gift for children 3 - 12. Excellent for Christian centers as there are no references to evolution. You've got to see it!

The book covers a wide range applications of fuzzy logic
This is a very very interesting book that provides different applications of fuzzy logic for building intelligent machines. Special attraction of the book is the application of fuzzy tools in mobile robotics for sensory uncertainty management, path planning and navigation. The book is highly readable and requires a little backgrond of fuzzy sets and systems. The book is useful for practitioners of fuzzy sets, robotics and intelligent systems in general.I believe that the readers will enjoy reading this book.

The Arnold/Andre Transcripts: A Reconstruction
Published in Hardcover by Library Research Associates, Inc (1993)
Author: Daniel Marder
Amazon base price: $21.00
Collectible price: $23.81
Average review score:

Benedict Arnold - patriot or turncoat
I had the privilege of reading Daniel Marder's book many years ago when it first came off the press. All of the usual cliches surrounding Benedict Arnold and his act of treason were fresh in my mind as I opened the front cover. But as I read the letters and diary entries in the words of both conspiritors, and allowed myself to feel the fears and passions of the time, I found myself questioning our current representation of those events in our history books. Were Benedict Arnold and John Andre dastardly, unscrupulous men? Or were they devoted patriotic soldiers from opposing sides who simply could no longer bear the price of war? The author examines the events that let up to that infamous act through the hearts and minds of Arndre and Arnold.
