Electromagnetic Theory
Published in Hardcover by McGraw Hill College Div (1941)
Amazon base price: $95.00

Book and Author.
The book is a very comprehensive reference on electromagnetic theory, particularly as applied to macroscopic systems.
The author: During the late '20s and early '30s at MIT's Round Hill research program, Professor Julius A. Stratton worked with graduate students (later Professors) Henry G. Houghton and William H. Radford on transmitting electromagnetic wave signals through fog to assist in the blind landing of aircraft, and later to locate land and ocean objects from the air. Professor Stratton's book, Electromagnetic Theory, published in 1941, is still considered an essential text in the field today. As a staff member in MIT's war-time Radiation Laboratory, he worked on the development of long-range navigation systems (LORAN) and became RLE's first director in 1946, continuing the Rad Lab's tradition of interdisciplinary research. Professor Stratton was also instrumental in establishing many innovative academic and research policies in his several administrative capacities at MIT (including provost, chancellor, and president). Sex and esoterism
We can summarize Evola's views through a simple metaphore: use it to go beyond; otherwise leave it. Evola was not only an "erudite", he was also a pragmatic (in opposition to Guenon). In this book, Evola proceed to an exhaustive analysis of the nature of sexuality, exploring its metaphysics, but also its embodyments. Sex can be a source of power, of knowledge, if conditions are there; but it can also be a source of submission, of destruction. A fascinating book, although Evola's views are sometimes striking, disturbing (specially for women).

The politicalization of the U.S. Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court has always been known as the nine old men (Sandra Day O'Connor included). In the summer of 1953, at the height of the cold war, it was known as the nine tired old men. The nine old men were tired of the case of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, designated as America's most dangerous spies, whose espionage activities were the epitomized those seeking to undermine and take over America for Soviet communism. The Rosenbergs could be pointed to by those creating, and benefitting, from the cold war as an example of how those with privilege and position were working tirelessly to overthrown the government and leak its most precious secrets to an implacable enemy. But the author takes the reader past the obvious, past the well rehearsed rhethoric by asking a simple question--not whether they were guilty or innocent, but whether they received justice. If America is to show the world the superiority of its judicial system, where better than a case in which it dispenses justice to those most hated--traitors and spies. The book has two important themes. One, that the Rosenberg's attorney, Emmanuel Bloch, misunderstood the true nature of the case, thinking of it as just another communist party case. Two, that a secret agreement, in violation of the Code of Conduct and legal ethics, had been entered into between the Attorney General and the Chief Justice, without the presence of the Rosenbergs' attorneys, precluding any possibility that new evidence would be fairly adjudged by the High Court. "Fatal Error" outlines in dramatic and stunning detail how numerous judges ignored evidence pointing to a defective indictment by the U.S. government and aided and abetted the speedy execution of the Rosenbergs. In their briefs, attorneys Daniel Marshall and Fyke Farmer sought to alert both the Court and Emmanuel Bloch to the simple fact that the Rosenbergs, had they been indicted under the Atomic Energy Act of 1946, instead of the Espionage Act of 1917 would have, in all likelihood, received prison sentences that were contemporaneous with those received by other spies at that time. "Fatal Error" outlines a shockingly, sad, disgusting trail of legal and judicial malfeasance leading to the interior of the U.S. Supreme Court. As Philip Elman, a former law clerk remarked, "The Rosenberg case is the most disgusting, saddest, despicable espisode in the Court's history." "Fatal Error" is an explosive, dramatic, highly recommended expose of a heretofore unexposed episode in cold war history." Kenneth R. Kahn written a screenplay based on "Fatal Error" and is currently seeking an agent.

excellent book for learning how to sing and play guitar
Because of the strong simple melodies and interesting guitar parts, this became my constant companion on my quest for musical competency. Unfortunately, being that I took it everywhere with me, I eventually left it behind somewhere in Central Park, NYC. I need another copy of this book. I was having a great time learning DUCAN AND BRADY when I lost it. If you own this book you're lucky

All you need in Naples
I bought this book based on my previous experiences with Footprint guides -- I love their South America books -- and it was perfect for my five-day visit to Naples. It provides a well integrated mix of historical and current city info, with useful maps and really stunning photos (though color would be nice; next edition, maybe?).
Plus, it didn't weigh down my bag. Unlike some pocket guides, this one really does fit in your pocket. It's all you need to get around -- no more, no less. I felt totally hooked in to what's going on in Naples -- hopefully they'll add lots more titles to this series.

The ROman equivalent of Sun Tzu
The Strategems is a little-known work that is filled with cunning tricks used by ancient generals. Unfortunately Frontinus' other work, the "Art of War" doesn't survive. But the Strategems is still a very interesting piece of literature, reminding me of Sun Tzu in many ways. Also look out for Aeneas Tacticus, Onasander and Asclepiodotus in Loeb, for other military manuals from ancient times!

An extraordinarhy accomplishment in scholarship
This monumental work, the culmination of Sachse's investigations on two continents during the late 19th century, kept extant information on the remarkable story of the fascinating and influential mystics that helped lay the foundations for much of American society in the late 17th century. Without this book, information for which was partially obtained from the author's personal collections, this extraordinary story would be virtually lost. The book is also richly illustrated with photos and copies of authentic and unforgettable pieces of one of America's most interesting and least known mysteries.
