a extremely helpful and beautiful book!!!
THIS very informative book was written with great compassion,
professional knowledge and expertise...and most of all love.
i bought this book years ago in my 20's and i have worn this
book out that it is in 2 halves...much dogged eared...i use
this book like a best friend/medical bible...

The Best Even Written On The Subject
This is without a doubt the best book ever written about the female body, all of it. Extremely objective and easy to understand, it truly is, as advertised, an owner's manual for the woman's unique physiology.

No aspect of womanhood is ignored and no judgements are made. The information is clear, direct and helpful. Every woman should have a copy of this book and all men should be required to read it at least once.

For parents with children at the onset of puberty, male or female, this is a work that will demystify what their adolescence is about and will make the explanation of growing to adulthood far easier for the parent and easier to understand for the child. The lack of any particular moral datum, objectivity and scientific accuracy make this book ideal for most anyone seeking knowledge without commentary, social or otherwise.

Everything from STD prevention to ageing are approached, explained and summarized in comprehensive chapters with precision and compassion. Whether you are just coming to terms with adolescence or are beginning menopause, are beyond menopause or a man desiring to learn more about the enigma that is a female body, read this book.

Greatest book ever written for women's health.
this is the greatest book every written for women's health, along with the updated version, A Woman's Body. Mine is falling apart because it is my bible. Please please please Dr. Lauersen, give us an updated version. Your books are the absolute best.

Legion - The book that has it all
I started reading Legion in the morning and didn't put it down until I was done that night. A great "Good versus Evil" story, with twists & turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I especially enjoyed the strong warrior character being a young high school aged girl with all her innocent idealism still intact. This book will enthrall you no matter what your interests are, it has something for everyone. It is a must read!

The book I couldn't put down.
This book was so exciting to read. Once I started it I couldn't wait to finish. After I was through all I could think of was "I hope he writes something to follow this!" This book was full of energy. The book moves you from page to page without letting you stop. It isn't very often that a book comes along that everyone who reads will enjoy. If you like mystery, adventure, or romance this book is great. From the very first page I was drawn in and couldn't stop reading. This book will be a great gift for me to give to my friends and family who enjoy reading. I can't wait until I find out how Fran and Chris turn their seemingly horrible fate into a romance.

Fantastic Book!!
Just because I happen to be the mother of the author, it in no way makes me biased. I read this book before it was fined tuned and published. It grabbed me from the very first page and I couldn't put it down until finished. Take my word for it. If you purchase this book, you will be happily engrossed for hours. There is something for everyone. Romance, horror, adventure, fantasy and yes, even religion. I urge you to order it now because I am predicting it to be a best seller.

Life's Literacy Lessons: Poems for Teachers

A Gift for Every Teacher's Heart
This is the most compelling book of poetry for educators I have ever read. Life's Literacy Lessons is fresh, honest, and endearing. The topics are relevant, and the poems themselves will bring back fond memories of things that have happened to all of us who serve "in the trenches." Whenever I need a bit of encouragement I pick up this book and read, read, read.

The Truth About Literacy in Perfect Poetry
After receiving Steve Layne's book "Teachers' Night Before Christmas" as a gift and meeting him at a conference, I had to have this. Real teachers writing about real situations makes for funny and sad moments, and this brings them all home. Having taught several grade levels, I could relate to so many of the poems. Our literacy committee just met to begin an in-district project, and our coordinator passed out a copy of this book to every committee member, and then read a poem to open. Now I have two copies which is just fine with me.

A New Favorite Poetry Collection
Steve Layne goes right to the heart of the matter with this insightful collection of poetry. I laughed, cried, and acknowledged the truth conveyed in these precious poems. I especially loved the section about reading aloud to children of all ages. I also was thrilled to see that this book has been endorsed by many of the giant names in literacy education including Jim trelease. Don't miss this one.

An unqualified YES!
My response to the material presented in this book when I first encountered it in 1993 was an unqualified "YES!", and time has not diminished my enthusiasm. This is and was the only system that has ever resonated so deeply with me in terms of understanding why "things are the way they are", not only in my own life, but with regard to the human experience in general.

I found the model of the soul experience in the earth plane presented in this book to be intellectually coherent, spiritually satisfying, and emotionally comforting. The book also contains some interactive exercises that were remarkably accurate in helping me determine my own "spiritual profile" based upon the Michael model.

If you have nagging questions that you just can't resolve (e.g., Why is life so unfair? Why do bad things happen to good people?), or if you're just curious about why we're all here, you may find this book to be very enlightening. I sure did!

The book's one weakness: As another reviewer pointed out, the editing could have been a lot better. However, this is a minor issue and does not detract from the quality of the information presented.

In the stars
The most interesting book explaining why we're here and what we're supposed to do. The book is not easy to figure out but once you "get it" It's cool. This is one of those things that if you're meant to read this book and you've gotten this far, you'll probably read it. Explains why fat people are fat, why you marry the person you marry, have the job you have, why you as an individual think the way you think. Tells where we go when we eventually leave the planet. Does it make any dfference? I don't know. Frankly an old woman told me once, " forget all this stuff and just live your life." Maybe that's what it's all about after all.

the perfect introduction to the Michael system
This is an excellent book on the Michael teachings, which can serve both as a clear and manageable introduction to newcomers to the Michael information as well as a resource for those already familiar with the Michael system. The book may well have changed my life. Highly recommended.

Outstanding book with marvelous projects & clear directions
I love this book! It provides clear, step-by-step directions for a large number of projects, many of which are unique, and most of which will become family heirlooms. They vary in complexity (so some will be perfect for virtually every age of chiild). There were several I want to make for myself -- e.g., memory jars, made by covering a container with modeling compound and sticking charms and other saved treasures into the clay, so they will harden there. Although I seem to buy every craft magazine and book on the market, that's the only place I've ever seen this particular project.

My one and only quibble is with the title. IMHO, this would be equally appropriate for fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, grandparents/aunts/uncles/teachers and any boy or girl -- as well as making things for oneself. Somehow, I'd feel funny giving parents of three sons (no daughters) a book with this title -- yet it would be absolutely perfect for them, as well as for almost anyone with children and/or a desire to preserve traditions/souvenirs.

Fabulous Craft Suggestions
I have four daughters and even when they were very little we always made our own holiday gifts (napkin stamping, candle rolling, apple wreaths, little journals). My girls are now 15, 13, 12 and 11 and I've begun to run out of ideas! Charlotte Lyons book was given to me as a gift and I have been pouring over it ever since. For one thing, it is a stunningly pretty book to look at and for another, it has craft suggestions that I need -- from the good cheer fairy for the younger ones to the wallpockets for the older ones. They also look like ones I can handle. As my children get older they are certainly more creative but the time we have for such projects grows less and less. I don't think I am alone in bemoaning that fact! Anyway, I am confident that we will have mnay fun hours together this summer because of this book. I wish all of you the same good fortune.

Memories of a simpler time
I recently received Mothers and Daughters at home as a gift. I've only begun to read the opening chapters and it has brought back so many wonderful momories of my grandmother. She was my "craft" mentor. Mothers and Daughters is more than just a 'How to' book, for me it is a book of memories of a simpler time. I look forward to beginning my first project with my grandaughter!

Scholarly
Subjects are thoroughly covered and the information is written in an friendly and interesting manner. If you have a question about the Sonoran Desert, you will most likely find the answer here. Among other surprises, this book offered my first look at the "creeping devil cactus" - how interesting! I'd never even heard of it before. "A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert" is a book you will turn to for detailed information that can be trusted as well as entertainment. Very nice photographs and illustrations. A great book for a nature lover, even if the Sonoran Desert holds no particular interest to them.

Armchair nature watching
This is the ideal book to take along on trips to the Sonora Desert. Whether it is the Cailfornian , including Baja, Arizonian(it actually covers five states) or Mexican portions of the vast and diverse Sonara Desert, the details and complexities of this eco system are truly amazing. This book is an indespensible guide to all facets of this immense gift, including the many plants and animals that inhabit this harsh yet bountiful environment. It is a book to read before, as well as after the trips to the desert. Since it is so diverse and vast , covering some 100, 000 sq.mi., the amount of information given is quite a bit but done in such a mannner that one can easily navigate the text to the desired area of interest Inevitably one will stray into an area of new found interest. The little known facts are a lay persons path to knowledge about what the heck they just saw or are about to see. The black and white illustrations for the plants and animals you will or did encounter are excellent and extremely helpful for identification. There is a section with color photographs as well to further illustrate the beauty of the Sonora Desert. With contributions by some thirty five different experts in their pespective field this book is the ultimate guide. Do not hesitate to buy this book if you are visting the Sonora Desert as it will prove to be a valuble reference tool that can be used over and over. Since there is so much to learn about the Sonora Desert and it's inhabitants, this book can be read anytime, anywhere since it is nearly impossible to experience it all. Recommended for the tourist, naturalist or anyone interested in learning more about the 2000 species of plants, 550 species of verbrates and thousands of unknown invertebrate species who make the Sonora Desert home. This is truly fascinating material that only nature can provide so don't hesitate to purchase this book.

natural history of the sonoran desert
we agree with all of the other reveiws.... a great discovery and a great resource....Glad we got it...

Real Cooking for the Real World
This book is a text for a class I am currently taking. While it covers all the basics, even the classics yet it also reflects how the cooking is today. The recipes come from a wide variety of sources and not just the school's own files.

My Teacher
I am lucky enough to have studied under Chef Labensky. This is an outstanding book. This was our text book at Mississippi University for Women. We used it for everything. It gives great history, backgrounds, techniques, and recipes. My husband, Colley, (Which I met at MUW)and I still use it on a regular basis and we have been out of culinary school for 2 years. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering culinary school.

A must for cooking students
This text is very thorough, and covers everything from history, nutrition and sanitation to classic and innovative recipes using the latest trendy ingredients. This text is geared specifically for the cooking student, however, with most recipes written to serve 12 or more, and ingredients listed by weight rather than volume. It will be tremendously usefull to add to a library of cookery books, and can be used to provide a solid foundation of the basic principals of cooking.

Terrific recipes, but Ingredients unavailable to most
Having tried several recipes that turned out to be absolutely superb, I drooled at the prospect of working through the rest. I mean, the churascos served with the 3 sauces, and the chicken adobo served with the papaya and black bean vinegarette are in the top five of my all time favorite dishes (see the Barbecue! Bible for the other 3). But as I came across recipes calling for pompano, conch, grouper, the lychees, etc., I wondered how I would ever find these ingredients in Colorado. Quite simply, I can't. I've gone as far as I can go with this book...of the twenty or so recipes I've made out of this book, a half dozen have been incredible, another half dozen very good, and the rest just so-so. Quite a few are more calorific than I'd like.

Flavorful food that is simple to make
This cookbook is just fantastic. It contains a broad range of recipes inspired by the flavors of Miami, from cocktails to deserts. The instructions are clearly written. Most dishes take only a short time to prepare and all of the results have been great. This book is for people who love richly flavored food but do not want to spend their entire day preparing it.

Tropical Latin cooking at its best!
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. This has everything from appetizers to desserts. I especially like the special citrusy marinades and dressings. Some of the recipes are totally authentic Latin recipes while others are based on the original dishes. Everything I've made from this cookbook has been wonderful!

EXCITINGLY MICRO-VISUAL
With hundreds of high-quality pictures, this atlas stands out. It is hard-to-beat!
Together with their sound descriptive texts, the figures of this book will serve as indispensable guide for both beginners and advanced learners alike. The print-resolutions of all the photographs are fine. As a result, each culture-colony was well-defined and represented.
This atlas is a significant visual lab, which would assist students in honing their understanding. As well, practicing laboratory scientists would cherish the complementary knowledge it provides. And given its fair price, there is no reason why I should refrain from recommending it. It's cute!

Great photos, great text, great book!
I loved this book. It's a very helpful companion to your microbiology/parasitology book and class. It has a beautiful paper and photos that will be hard to find elsewhere. Also the price is great, compared to other books or atlases. Don't think twice and get it!!. You'll be amazed by Mr. Steve K. Alexander et al.

would not have survived microbiology lab without it
this is by far the best atlas if you are taking a college level microbiology course. the lab section of the course moves very quickly and normally you're lab experiment book will not tell you what your results should be or what they will look like. every page of this atlas is high glossy quality color photos and the text is laid out in an easy to read format. every diagnostic test that is done in the lab is covered in this book not only in text but with color photos that show how each different microbe reacts under those conditions. i can not say enough about this atlas and you could spend a lot more money on other books that are far less informative. the publisher and the author must have been out of their minds when they set the price for this book. believe me you will be so pleased with this purchase, i use it every day. FYI i am pursuing a masters degree in microbiology and i have gotten a solid A in all of my microbiology courses, thanks to this book

In dreams
Evan's family is captured by slavers and broken apart. A few years later, he's rescued by a religious group called the Children of Irfan when it's discovered he's one of the telepathic Silent. Taking the new name Kendi, he begins training on the planet Bellerophon, where a serial killer is killing women in the Dream, the non-physical place where the Silent congregate. When Kendi witnesses the killer at work, he can't help but be part of the investigation, especially while his teacher is one of the investigators. To make things even more complicated, Kendi finds himself attracted to his teacher's son. What if he's rejected once again? But then, what if he's not? As a prequel to Harper's first novel "Dreamer", "Nightmare" fills in parts of Kendi's past. The mystery plot is unexceptional, and almost easily figured out, and the abrupt jumps through time nearly shatter the plot threads, but Harper's strong characterizations and engrossing sci fi world make this book hard to put down. I can hardly wait for the next novel about the Silent Empire, not only because of Kendi, but also for the intriguing social commentary at which Harper hints via the Dream.

Wow
Nightmare is a great scifi read! Steven Harper adeptly weaves the vivid characters into the story, creating an utterly believable world that you won't want to leave. It's amazing how Harper so realistically recreates the see-sawing emotions of a teenager's first stirrings of desire - the elation of falling for someone and abject feelings of rejection when it turns out that person doesn't feel the same way.

Where nightmares come true
It is rare that the second book in the series is an improvement rather than a disappointment. Far too often I have read the second book in a series or trilogy and been let down either by a dragging or faltering storyline or worse the failure of the author to expand on his/her original premise. Not so with Steven Harper's "Nightmare" his second book in his "Silent Empire" series. "Nightmare is not a sequel but rather a prequel. It is the story of the main character of "Dreamer, Kendi Weaver as a slave and then as a student.

Twelve year old Kendi expects to awaken from cryogenic sleep on a colony world where he and his family anticipate recreating Australian aboriginal society. However 900 years have passed while the colonists slept and they awoke to find themselves being sold into slavery. Sold as a laborer Kendi spends several years on a frog farm when a chance meeting reveals him to be one of the Silent. The Silent are telepaths with the ability to communicate with other telepaths across the galaxy. The Silent do this by entering the Dream, a world entirely composed of the collective unconscious and practically anything is possible. Being Silent means Kendhi is now extraordinarily valuable and his owner announces she will see Kendhi immediately. Facing yet another slave auction Kendi is rescued and freed by Mother Ara of the Children of Irfan, a monastic order, dedicated to teaching the Silent to use their abilities. Kendi is transported to the Planet Bellerophon, home of the Children of Irfan.

Kendhi begins his training in the use of his abilities with the Children of Irfan as a free person. However, he is haunted by the memories of his parents and siblings who are still slaves somewhere. His guilt at being free leads him to act out in the worst of teenage ways. Worse, there is a vicious serial killer stalking the Dream using individual's dreamscapes as weapons and Kendi's savior and teacher, Mother Ara, appears to be next on the murder's menu. Mixed in with all this is Kendi's ongoing struggle with his emerging homosexuality.

Mr. Harper creates vivid, fully formed characters that attach themselves to your memory and stay. I remember teenage angst and I believe that few authors can vividly recreate that worst of life phases. Mr. Harper expresses that age life few others I have read. Background exposition is fed into the storyline without interrupting the story. Mr. Harper also pulls off quite a feat in surprising readers with the true identity of the murder.

Mr. Harper has left a gap in time between the end of "Nightmare" and the beginning f his first book in the series, "Dreamer" leaving time for (hopefully)another story of Kendhi's youth.
