He knows his stuff.
I just took a SMS training class with the author. He knows his stuff. Buy this book.

Awesome!
Of all the resources I have used in learning to implement SMS 2.0, including classes and other books, this book is by far the best. The book is very well organized and I particularly liked the "Real World" sidebars that appear throughout the book, very valuable info! My only regret is not buying it sooner. I would give it my highest possible recommendation. Don't leave home without it!

A must have!
This book is a must have for anyone planning, supporting or implementing SMS. Easy to follow and understand.

For some guys military men are a vocation.
I'm one of the chapters in Zeeland's book. He told the truth, and did so in a clear informative manner. In telling my story, and those of men with similar tastes, Steven earned my respect.

THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO HOW TO PICK-UP A MARINE
As a life-long military chaser, I was struck by the "how-to" quality of this fascinating collection of interviews. Contained in these pages is the collected wisdom of men (and one woman) who have dedicated much of their lives to the successful pursuit of our brave young men in uniform. Adapting their various styles of hunting to the reader's needs will supply all one needs to find love, or at least lust, from many Marines and sailors.

Zeeland's Military Trade is the Damron guide for gays who seek authentic straight men. My greatest fear is that this book will continue to be a best seller; and that the streets of my Marine Corps desert oasis in Southern California will become crowded with new competitors for jarhead attention.

Stimulating reading
OK, I admit it, I bought it for the cover. And the pictures. But this book is a real page turner. Like it says on the back cover, it keeps you up all night "trying to put it down".

Truly an indispensable reference!
I feel it is very important that I have a good source of information aside from that which is available from the company for which I sell natural supplements. I'm often frustrated by the limited acceptance of herbal supplements and remedies in the U.S., especially those which are widely used in Europe, China, and other parts of the world. This book states "principal proposed treatments" (those which have been tested successfully in the U.S.) and "other proposed treatments" (those not tested in the U.S., but are often used in other countries). It gives details about recommended dosages, safety issues, medical interactions, etc. So far, it has provided me with information about almost every ingredient I've searched for, and has made me feel much more confident about recommending the products I sell! There is a section regarding health problems and the recommended products for treating them, then another section of herbal substances and their recommended uses. The information is alphabetized, with shaded tabs on the edges of the pages for quick look-ups. It is so organized and easy to use, it's not only the first book I reach for when I need information, often it is the ONLY book I need!

A must-have for your refernece library
This was the first book I purchased when I decided to "get into" herbs and supplements. I was looking for a concise, yet thorough, book of herbs and the ailments best treated by each. I wanted as much information as possible about the pros and cons of each herb, interactions and contradictions-not just a listing of the popular uses for each herb. While this book doesn't provide "how-to" recipes for salves, tinctures, teas, etc., it does give the beginner a great basis for understanding herbal uses and options in a very easy and user-friendly format. It has everything I was looking for in an herbal referenece book and it IS my bible. It has whet my appetite for more herbal reading material and possibly a career in herbal health. Recommend!!

It IS Indeed THE Bible for Natural Health!
If you are looking for a reference book to tell you WHAT popular and not-so-popular natural remedies like herbs, vitamins and supplements DO or DON'T do - this is one book you MUST have in your library. As the Guru for Lifetips.com Alternative Health site and as a health writer (Generationsr.com & Theamstream.com), I constantly refer to this wonderful book to guide me in my research to share tips with my readers - tips that are backed up with info provided by terrific book, including Safety Issues, Interaction Warnings, and Scientific Evidence that backs the worthiness or unworthiness of a particular herb or supplement. If you buy one health book, this should be the one you choose.

A truly "user friendly" planning guide
Old Talk: New Conversations is a truly "user friendly" planning guide for seniors and their families coming to grips with regard to making decisions stemming from the facts of aging upon the issues of medical care, finances, legal issues, and lifestyle matters. Five professionals present insightful and practical information and commentary that include chapters on Planning for a Financially Comfortable Retirement; Estate and Tax Planning; Long-Term Care Insurance: The New Financial Necessity; Getting the Care You Need When You Live at Home; and Choosing Your New Home: Retirement/Senior Housing. Old Talk: New Conversations is an invaluable, very highly recommended guide which ought to be a part of every community library, senior citizen center, and geriatric social services agency reference collection.

A great tool for approaching the topic with an aging parent
This is one of the best books I've seen in a long time. It's a very practical book that's written so anyone can understand it. It's a great way to introduce the subject of planning for the future with a parent (or an adult child).

excellent
I met the authors. They are nice people...and they know what they are talking about. They went out of their way to answer my questions. This book answers every question you could possible have about planning for your future. It rocks.

best book for carousel art and history
This an excellent book giving a good insight into the history of carousels from their early beginnings. Crammed with beautiful photographs of the various animals and some rare photographs of the carvers and their workshops. A must reference book if you are into carousels.

Great Carvings
A delightful book on a vanishing art form: hand carved carousel animals, sleighs, and ornaments. The color photographs are excellent. The background on merry-go-rounds and round-abouts is fun. The carvers and their companies are discussed in detail. Timelines, a directory, publications, restoration services, music, and a brief bibliography are included. I would have preferred an annotated bibliography, and citations of non-bound materials. In any event, this one is a keeper, and will give many hours of enjoyment.

A must for ANY carousel lover
I absolutely adore this book. The full color photos throughout the book are worth the pricetag, not to mention the extremely detailed history of the carousel and some of the more reknowned carvers. You can't pass this one up.

These principles of business and of life are timeless
This book is a 'must read' for anyone working to be truely successful in their business and personal life. It is also a must read for those who tend to think of Shamanism as primitive, unenlightened or somehow unnatural and not connected to the 'real' world. In fact through-out his book, Jose Stevens uses example after example from the world of nature as a way of teaching us to look to nature to help guide us in our business practices. Recently we have been given one example after another of corporate practices that have not followed the path of 'true power' or what Dr. Stevens refers to as 'The Path With Heart.'

The Power Path has become a permanent reference book guiding my practice as a clinical consultant in a residentail and out-patient drug and alcohol treatment program. It is also being read and used by numerous staff including the CEO. This is not a 'one shot' read but a book to be studied and used as a guideline for ethical and successful business and life practices. It is filled with deep insight and knowledge. This is a book about true power.

Ready for the new corporate world? Let's go!
This book does an excellent job of describing the path of power and its elements. There is a difference between moving along the linear path to power or taking the one of the shaman, the path with heart. Our current business environment follows the linear path which is solely focused on the physical world and rarely venturing from the visible to the invisible.

This book is extremely relevant right now as we are going through a transformation of corporations. Taking the view of the Shaman, which incorporates the more spritual side of the equation creates a balanced path which leads to success not just for the CEO, but for all concerned, employees, shareholders..gee what a concept!!!

Jose and Lena Stevens have studied shamanism with shamans from all over the world. Their ability to take these esoteric concepts and apply them to an organization is really quite brilliant. A corporation is really a tribe and the dynamics for success are the same as in a tribe. Their descriptions of successful groups and their functioning is fascinating. I know for myself it will enhance my experience of working with corporate teams and make things a lot more productive.

Every company needs a medicine man/woman, so give this book to your favorite CEO and buy stock in the company.

Enjoy.

Pragmatic Shamanic Teaching Where It Is Needed Most
Jose' is a Basque-Mexican-Irish American who, with his wife Lena, are some of the most sought after organizational consultants in the industry. What makes them unique is their thorough grounding in psychological understanding (Jose received a Ph.D. from the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco, a true source of cutting-edge education), and they both have undergone shamanic apprenticeships.

This book is extremely timely given the current down-turn of our economy (which is going to get a lot worse before it gets better), and the old paradigms of business (which truly must undergo a transformation--see another book, The Cultural Creatives by Paul Ray and S. Anderson).

The Power Path is definitely not a book on puff-ball New Age spirituality. It pulls no punches, it is gritty and real, but is also astonshing in its capacity to convey the terrain of power and our relationship with it. This is no beating around the bush writing--pragmatic and practical, the teachings and ideas are deeply informed by their apprenticeship with Huichol shamans (they obviously paid attention)--but the ideas in The Power Path are also tested, refined, and applied in the very real domain of corporations where the issues of power are just as tangible and real as the issues of power a shaman faces in his or her training, and in his or her practice and service throughout life.

In my estimation The Power Path is one of the freshest articulations of the shamanic theory about power, energy, thought, and intention, all components that determine our own determination of our own destiny. What is extremely hopeful, I think, is the potential that these central teachings to the shamanic life at large can revolutionize the way we do business, the way we lead, the way we govern.

Querencia

A GIFT FROM THE LIT GODS
In an era where illiterates like Shaquile O'Neal and Tim Allen hit the top ten list with their inane blather, it was a gift from the Gods to stumble upon this gem. When I put Querencia (kur-en-see-uh) down after having read it in one sitting, I asked myself, 'How in the hell is it that I have never heard of this Bodio character before?' He is a MASTERFUL author, a naturalist on par with ANY giant your memory or imagination may conjur, and as genuinely sensitive a man as there ever was. Only after MUCH research did I learn that East coast publishers hate him (his other works explain why: he's smarter than most all publishing execs and editors COMBINED, which is intimidating if you are a micro-apendaged ivy leaguer with a hi-lighter), and that's why he is not a, 'sold' author. Too bad. If Oprah read this, she'd cry herself into a migraine and then make Bodio a NY Times #1 seller: it's that good. IF YOU READ IT BASED UPON THIS RECOMMENDATION AND DO NOT THINK MY ASSESSMENT IS ACCURATE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AND SET ME STRAIGHT! I am confident that I will not be hearing from you.

Steve Bodio- New Mexico's Annie Proux?
Querencia is a uniquely personal and cathartic experience of a complex and passionate man's odyssey - a relationship between man, woman, dogs, eagles and nature - an elevating, and sometimes excruciatingly painfull account of the human condition.

The consolation of man's enduring relationship with nature is exquisitely described here. Bodio deserves recognition as New Mexico's champion author, as his friend, Annie Proux has become for Wyoming. You will read this book over and over, and find new insights each time.

A honest, compassionate story
As a New Mexican who has probably walked over Bodio's boot tracks in the central mountains of New Mexico, I was completely captivated by his discriptions of this country that is so full of paradoxes and contrasts. No other author has been able to describe so well this unusual place and the affects it has on it's inhabitants: winged, four legged and two legged.

Easily the most approachable book on Hindu practice I've see
Initially I purchased this book for the multitude of color photographs contained within it. Once I began leafing through its pages, I realized it was written in such elegant simplicity that I was drawn in immediately.

Each chapter covers a different aspect of Hindu worship in India: worship in the home, with one's community, at a temple, etc. The book does not so much explain Hinduism as it does the way Hindus approach their faith.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Indian culture or Hinduism. It's a fascinating read.

Fascinating and passionate look at world's oldest religion
Tons of books have been written that explain and glorify the wisdom and philosophy of Hinduism. Many non-Hindus have been more than happy to embrace some or all of these concepts, one of the most ubiquitous being the concept of "karma". But even they can feel awed, confused, surprised or a combination of these emotions when they first encounter the seemingly anachronistic practices of Hinduism- like worshipping the stones or trees.

This is one of the few books that explain well to the western audience the whats and whys of the oldest religion in the world. It focuses on the approach of common Hindu folks to their religion and how it enhances their day-to-day life. Author starts with some basic concepts and then goes on to draw pen-pictures of daily lives of devout Hindus that, at least in the religious sense, defy modernization in contemporary India. The text aided by vivid pictures fires the imagination and magically transports the reader to India. The deep passion of the author is clearly reflected in the knowledgeable text. Hinduism is a very flexible religion, which is primarily the reason it has survived thousands of years. It is perfectly acceptable to practice faith in ways different from those of ancestors, provided certain basic tenets are kept in mind. The approach to religion may vary by region, by economic status, or caste but the important thing to note that diversity is acceptable.

Author has presented the approach to Hinduism in rural India or that practiced by lower income strata of the society, which comprises of a significant number of Indian Hindus. This approach is different from that practiced by urban Hindus or those in middle or upper income class. This book is highly recommended to all who have interest in religion, those who have an unquenchable thirst for anything Indian and even practicing Hindus.

A truly beautiful book.... I wish I could give it more stars
Its books like this which are truly inspirational. Open it up and you will open up to India and the complex spiritual diversity of Hinduism. The process of 'meeting God' pervades all of life here. Everyone has their own unique and individual 'puja' for 'dharsa' This is a look at a whole culture, and not just a religion. The images are spectacular. These ancient rites flourish in the face of any modernization. Probably the best introduction to Hinduism out there.

Very good value
One gets quite a lot for one's money with this one-volume encyclopedia. It's impressive how the editors at Merriam-Webster are able to make a book that is so comprehensive and concise at the same time.

There are a couple of odd things about it, though. Many of the articles cover topics that concern current events, with articles on recent celebrities like Jerry Seifeld and companies like Microsoft. Unfortunately, such current topics must come at the expense of other less current topics. This excessive concentration on current topics could make the book date quite rapidly.

Also, many of the articles have been lifted straight from the Encyclopedia Britannica. This would not have been a problem if the editors had taken advantage of the opportunity to revise the articles to bring them up to date, but unfortunately they didn't do so in many cases. The net result of these two editorial decisions is to give the book a straight-from-the-headlines feel for one article, and then an ancient feel for the next.

A must have for the college bound!
This conveniently-sized encyclopedia is a portable and inexpensive desktop reference to put alongside your dictionary. The volume includes 25,000 entries, 1,300 photographs and illustrations, 350 maps and diagrams, and thankfully includes pronunciations of some words and names. Developed with , the reference features clear and concise entries of about 100-300 words.

A FIRST-RATE REFERENCE
Perfect for dormitory rooms, home offices and libraries, this essential volume is affordable, accessible, and authoritative.

Created in cooperation with Encyclopedia Britannica as well as a host of academic consultants, Merriam Webster's Collegiate Encyclopedia is a one volume treasure of information. It holds more than 25,000 entries covering every facet of scholarship and discipline, such as the arts, business, geography, history, literature, medicine, philosophy, pop culture, religion, science, technology, and up to the minute info regarding computers.

Pursuing an area of interest is easy with alphabetically sequenced listings, and 70,000 cross references which lead to additional data.

A pronunciation guide with some 10,000 words increases fluency and self-confidence.

Graphics heighten interest with photographs, maps, diagrams, and tables, thereby enriching awareness as well as learning.

True to its reputation of producing high quality reference materials Merriam-Webster again offers a first-rate volume.

"You are NOT getting sleepy..."
Doctor Steven Heller has written a fascinating book based on something that looks to be a passion. It's not that he is completely skeptical of any form of hypnosis, but he takes a hard look at the ritual and unnecessary dramatics of the professional "hypnotist." The word is in quotes, because you will see it that way all through the book. He was a clinical hypnotist for years. You should know that this title is not "Reader's Digest-level reading," it is intense and academic in approach. Steven Heller does believe in hypnosis, but under a different definition than most are used to. Monsters and Magical Sticks is filled with metaphors, imagery, and amazing success stories of his own case sessions. Learn about the "magic" behind Ericksonian techniques and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This book will show you how hypnotism really works.

LOVE THIS BOOK
Not only did I find this book instructive, but very entertaining to read. I highly appreciate the fact that this book treats hypnosis as a natural aspect of daily life and yes it can be used intentionally and covertly as in this story from the book:

"One evening, a group of friends and I were having dinner at a local restaurant. Our waiter was very distracted and he appeared to be agitated and depressed. He was abrupt, slow and unfriendly. As a result, our service left a great deal to be desired. Since I wanted to have an enjoyable evening, I decided to "talk funny" to him in order to help him feel better.

As he walked by our table holding a coffee pot, I touched his arm and said, "I'm sorry that you forgot that special night ... with that special person ... those exciting things that happened ... those very warm feelings that would embarrass you to talk about ... since we are all strangers."

For a moment his face went blank; he looked up to his left; his face then lift up and he said, "How do you know about that?" He then smiled and began to laugh, and his whole attitude changed as if by magic. He said, "Wow. that was some night. I don't know how you know about it."

The next time he came to our table, I said to him, "Wasn't it simply amazing that when you remember those happy, warm feelings, your attitude continues to change, and you continue to feel even better?"

We received a delightful service throughout the rest of the evening. What was even nicer, was that as we left he told us that we were one of the nicest parties he had ever waited on. He also asked us to be sure and ask for him whenever we returned.

Now, I have absolutely no idea as to what he hallucinated, but my communication resulted in his going back into his own history. He then found an experience that filled in the blanks, and that memory helped him to change his whole attitude in a matter of seconds. Of course, there's no such thing as hypnosis, and if there is, he should have gone deeper and deeper into a trance."

Monsters and Magical Sticks
Several years ago a friend loaned me his copy of Monsters and Magical Sticks. Within a few pages I knew that I was reading the work of geniuses. For months after I searched for a copy to call my own. Finally I found one. Both my training and therapeutic style have been fantastically improved! I am thrilled that this jewel is now more readily accessible. IT'S A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE WHO CONDUCTS TRAININGS AND/OR THERAPY. My hope is to one day talk with Dr. Heller or Ms. Steele and/or to attend one of their trainings. ...
