Absolutely THE best book on Y2K investing!
This book was a refreshing change from some other books that have been published on the subject of Y2K investing. Specifically, it is an extraordinarily well-researched book. It provides indepth details of possible y2k strategies and names specific stocks. Truly an outstanding effort!

It is the reasonable person's guide to investing for Y2K.
As an ex Chief Information Officer for a fortune 500 company, I've spent many years communicating to government and industry alike, what impact we could reasonably expect from the Year 2000 Computer Date Change Problem. This is the best book I have read to date, which provides reasonable and definitive answers to one the questions I am most frequently asked regarding Y2K, "What should I do about my investments?"

Today, as a consultant and author of THE REASONABLE PERSON'S GUIDE TO Y2K, I spend my time communicating about what moderate, down-to-earth, level-headed governments and individuals can do to prepare. In that regard, I consider L. Jay Kuo's and Edward Dua's book the reasonably person's guide to investing for the Year 2000 transition. I highly recommend this book for those who believe Y2K will not be a disaster, nor will it be "business-as-usual", and that reasonable preparedness for something "in between" is warranted.

If you believe Dr. Ed Yardeni, Chief Global Economist and Global Investment Strategist for Duetsche Bank Securities, when he predicts a 70% probability that Y2K will create a global recession which could last 12 to 24 months, then this book is must reading.

What I particularly liked about this book, is that the information is usable and it is not the "don't worry, be happy" message most brokerage houses are espousing. Not only do the authors provide powerful insight into how and why you should defensively posture current investments against a Y2K induced recession, they also venture forth suggestions on how to profit from it as well. Something I have been trying to get my broker to tell me for months. Come to think of it, I highly recommend this book for stockbrokers and fund managers too.

An investment guide not only helpful but hugely interesting!
Not being someone who typically reads a lot of investment guides, I was very happily astonished at how easily this book reads. L. Jay Kuo is an excellent writer, describing the background of the Y2K problem without getting too technical and obscure, and depicts the issue with extreme clarity and (dare I suggest it?) engaging wit. People from all backgrounds, from the investment-astute to the "digerati" (as Mr. Kuo puts it), to the neophytes, hesitant about investing in general but looking for some simple but straightforward insightful commentary and/or advice, will be able to get a lot out of this book. Oddly enough, it's even entertaining (!) -- Mr. Kuo is clever with his subheadings and his turn of phrase. While it is definitely not written to be "over people's heads" (as many investment guides seem to be), Mr. Kuo still manages to deliver deceptively clear prose with many witty allusions and insights, such that the book does not fall into the "pedantic trap" (as many investment guides ALSO seem to do). He explains the areas most likely to be adversely (and positively) affected by the upcoming confusion surrounding Y2K, presents really quite sound reasons for these views, and then suggests some viable approaches and at-least short term solutions so as to best protect oneself (and one's portfolio) from the inevitable chaos Y2K will present to the financial markets. Even if you never read another investment guide in your life, I recommend this one. Highly.

A look at where two nations mights well be headed
Cuba And The Coming American Revolution by author and political activist Jack Barnes, is a provocative and forcefully worded examination of the history and the future of American and Cuban politics. Ranging from the utter disaster that was the Bay of Pigs to predicting a socialist revolution in American policy and a counterrevolution in Cuba, this is an informed and informative account of class struggle. Barnes especially underscores the ways in which the American working class has been steamrolled and the consequent incentives that call for change. Cuba And The Coming American Revolution is a thought-provoking look at where two nations mights well be headed and a very welcome contribution to Cuban History and Socialist Studies academic reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

Cuba Shows Us We Can Win
Jack Barnes, the author of this boook, points out: "The greatest obstacle to the line of march of the toilers is the tendency, perpetuated by the exploiting classes, for working people to underestimate ourselves, to underestimate what we can accomplish, to doubt our own worth." This book proves that like the Cubans the working class in the United States has the capacity to win political power. Barnes explains how after a visit to Cuba in 1960 he and other student activists defended Cuba during the Bay of Pigs invasion. They stood up to both campus administrators and right-wing thugs and won the the right not only to speak out but to become the makers of history, like the Cubans. Barnes explains how the Cubans as a people demonstrated remarkable courage and determination in standing up to an imperialist terror campaign, arms in hand, while continueing their revolutionary work, which included a literacy campaign the likes of which has not been seen before or since. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BOLD SOCIAL VISION, I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO YOU!

For Those Serious About Changing The World
If you think, or rather I should say believe, that the "market" is the best of all possible systems, this the best of all possible countries, in the best of all possible worlds, then this is not the book for you.But if you are serious about doing something effective about meaningful social change in the "new millenium", then you owe it to yourself to buy this book. The author begins with the efforts of a small band of young people at a small Midwestern college to oppose the Yankee empire's efforts to overthrow the Cuban Revolution at the Bay of Pigs in 1961, and during the "Missile Crisis" in 1962. He shows you how and why the Cuban people then, and still today, were willing to fight and die to defend their nation and revolution, and how those everyday ordinary working people changed themselves into better humans in the process. He then explains that the only way to rid the earth of war, racism, discrimination against women, enviromental catastrophe, etc., is to do what the Cubans did, here in the "belly of the beast" --make a revolution. The alternative, he affirms, is fascism and a new world war. Finally he points to a concrete program to unify working people here and now,at home and abroad, necessary to fight back against the economic catastrophe looming before us to anyone with eyes to see.

If you are serious about making a human world, buy this book ! And pass it on to others.

First Moon: Passage to Womanhood

Celebrating Girls
Mothers always celebrate our daughters' 'first' birthdays, the 'first' day of school, and many other 'firsts'. Yet when our daughters begin 'first' menstruation, we are uncomfortable and silent. All girls deserve the honor and respect of a celebration as they change from girl to young woman. The First Moon kit gives mothers a complete celebration and begins a new way of thinking for girls (and moms) to love their bodies and their cycles.

new rituals for the new millenium
With the coming of a new era, it is a time for new rituals in our culture. The power we have as women to create life will no longer be overlooked or diminished in value. The time has come to reclaim our magnificence and the first step in doing this is to honor our young girls as life-giving forces at the time of their first menstruation. This kit gives the new menstruant and mother a framework from which together they can create a sacred ceremony celebrating the glory of being a woman. i wish I had had something like this when I first got my period. My wish is that every woman realizes her own power from the first day her body becomes in synch with the moon. I recommend this book/kit to all women in every culture all over the world.

Simple, yet totally revolutionary!
The First Moon kit is such a simple, yet revolutionary idea. To celebrate a girl's first menstruation with a celebration....how much simpler can it get to put a positive spin on something that is usually such a negative, forgotten, overlooked, neglected, yet hugely important part of each girl's life? This kit contains everything you need to start a life-long celebration of menstruation. This kit isn't just for girls. It is for anyone who wants to re-examine their relationship to their period, or get a group of friends together to discuss their own menarche experiences. it's a wonderful gift!

A Great Resource Full of Heartfelt Stories
This is a book I have been telling people about for the last couple months. As a writer of lesbian novels myself, I have been constantly surprised to discover how many women seem to be living double lives: wife and mother by day--secret, internet-accessing, coming-out lesbian by night. When women email me to confide and ask advice (which I feel inadequate at giving!), I refer them to this book knowing that the stories of the women in FROM WEDDED WIFE TO LESBIAN LIFE will give them hope and ideas.

Great editing work by Deb Abbott and Ellen Farmer, and kudos to Crossing Press for publishing this fine book.

In addition to this book, I would also recommend: LESBIAN EPIPHANIES: WOMEN COMING OUT IN LATER LIFE by Karol Jensen. For other more general true-life stories of women coming out, read anything edited by the wonderfully talented Lindsey Elder.

This is a great help....
I was leaving my husband and starting a relationship with a woman when I met Deb Abbott online about 5 years ago. She told me about her book and I ran out to buy it. I saw myself in so many of the stories, and found that I wasn't the only one going through my situation. That relationship ended badly after 4 years, and I am now with a woman that is in the same position I was. I am re-reading Deb's book, and my girlfriend is also reading it. It is a bible to us. I can't thank Deb enough for writing this amazing book.

A Guide for Unhappy Wives
This is a book for all women who feel that they are "stuck" in an unhappy marriage. The ladies in this book showed a lot of courage to put in to words what they felt from the very beginning of that first day of meeting a man to the first day with a women. This ladies tells us their heartfelt stories of unhappy marriages who some had children and some did not, some had families who was on their side and then there were other families that did not support them at all. This book could and would have been a bigger help to me 30 years ago and still is a help now. If your unhappy in a marriage with a man then read this book, it could help you to know that you can do things like these ladies did with your life with out a man there to make you unhappy and "keep you under their thumb".Some of these ladies went on to get thier degrees, and some went to work to support themselves with a job that they felt good with.If you do any thing get this book and get a "life"!

Grandfather, the King

Used price: $14.95

A Reader's Review of Grandfather, the King
This is a coming of age story about a young boy growing up in the Philippines just prior to, during, and immediately after the Second World War. The Grandfather clearly dominates the boy's early years. But in spite of the Grandfather's alternating invectives and adulations, he cannot diminish the boy's spunk or spirit. Instead, it's through Grandfather's dealings with peers and servants that the young boy discovers his own identity.

This is a story rich in Philippine culture and politics. The author provides a fascinating view of family life and of a patriarchal society. Although extremely well-written, it has a raw-edged appeal. Put it high on your must-read list.

Loved It
I have just finished reading "Grandfather, the King" and I found it a wonderful, revealing story about a small boy and of his love and closeness with his Grandfather. It tells about life in general during a time of peace in the Philippine Islands. The story changes drastically as the author goes on to tell how life changed after the invasion of the Japanese. The boy becomes a man as he tells of the cruelty and torture put to the people. How their property was taken from them and destroyed. The devastation and the deaths and it's effects on the family and people living there at the time. It also reveals how the boys father fought with the Guerrillas against the Japanese soldiers from the jungles.

I found it a terrific story, very well written. I have given this book as a gift to several friends and relatives who also enjoyed the book very much. I am looking forward to reading other books by this wonderful, very talented author.

Grandfather, the King
As a member of Mar Puatu's writer's group, I was priveleged to watch this masterful tale of the human spirit take form and flight. Mar is a gifted and exceptional storyteller, riveting his audience with a personal account of horrifying as well as heart-expanding experiences during WWII. His story centers around a Phillipino boy whose family is taken from the heights to the depths of suffering at the hands of the occupying Japanese. The magnificence of the story emerges as the reader becomes aware of how important vision, attitude and integrity are in defining experience. This is a work of the spirit and inspired me greatly. Mr. Puatu is a philosopher for our age.

Thrilling Bon Voyage to our Millenium with Future Hope!
Coppes states the y2k problem succinctly and in an objective, businesslike fashion. He outlines the principal causes and potential "explosion" of the Millennial Time Bomb by explaining well-researched premises that factor the impending event. Included in his work is a fantastic work of theology ("There is Hope") in which he explains the relationship of Old and New Testament prophecy to these events. It's a joy to read this dynamic jigsaw puzzle of research and organization. The chapter on preparedness aptly rounds out his message with a call to self-preparedness that anyone in their right mind will heed! You can't go wrong with this book. It will stun you, compel you, and eventually aims to motivate you to do what is right to leave you at peace with your eternal destiny...

Sobering view of end time ramifications of Y2k
Mr coppes hits head on the many negative eventualities of Y2k and ties in what this means in terms of Biblical Revelation. His expertise in both Y2k and Biblical prohecy give a chilling view of what this really could mean. His challenging book may be a window into this disater and into the heart of God. you wont be able to put it down

A highly recommended Y2K book with a Biblical perspective.
An uncommon perspective is offered as the story behind the story unfolds in this information packed book by Charles Coppes. Written from a Biblical perspective Charles Coppes offers practical advice and hope in the face of a serious global situation. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in reading all the facts regarding preparation for Y2K and other events which will shortly take place. Paul Moffitt

The empowering factor!
Frank delivers a profile of the future that few authors have.
Unlike other titles this book does not focus solely on religion it highlights timeless virtue and inner values as a factor toward a bright tomorrow. Respect for law, values and education will be a reason to hope after all. This is an excellent read!

Millennial World Order
How refreshing to read this book. Bringing religion into our lives makes us so whole and alive. This author writes from the heart and knows his Bible and is spreading the word.

Faith = Religion ??
A well-researched book that has has been overdue. A book about "religion" by an author who shares his insight into the dark side of churchianity. Sherosky uncovers the hidden truths about real Faith for the real Believer and proves that Truth will set you free! This is a book for those who are not sure of the future, nervous about the present, and uncertain of the past. Its also a book for those in the churches and synagogues who think they are already well-informed about such matters. The hidden agendas, spiritual abuse, and distortions of the secular and religious "teachers" are revealed in a postive manner. The future of mankind will be far different after the arrival of the Messiah than that which the Rabbis and Clerics have hyped for the past 2,000 years. The ultimate potential for the human race will be realized in the Messianic Millenium which is the "Good News" shared by Sherosky in detail. Must reading for those seeking the faith once delivered.

Great.
I guess you could say this play is about the complexity of human-ness. If you enjoy great, complicated characters (like the real people around you) see this play or buy this recording.
Does Uncle Peck remind anyone of Bill Clinton?

How I Learned to LOVE this play.
I just went to see my university production of this play, and so I decided to get the book, because it brought out so many emotions many of us have never felt before. This book is so moving and heart wrenching. Lil Bit takes you on an adventure that is so real and so scary, that you can't put the book down. If you get the chance, don't waste it on any other play. This is THE PLAY to read.

Compelling
I saw this performed through Perseverance Theatre in Anchorage, Alaska, and Paula Vogel is a great artist when it comes to making beleivable characters. In this play, the child molester, Uncle Peck, is portrayed in a way that you grow to like him. The book by itself is worth buying, and a great piece of humorous and spellbinding literature.

must read
The South Asian lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender movement has come a long way since 1993, but Ratti's book is still a primary source of information on the subject and hence a milestone for the movement. The chapters are highly variable in quality but are all eminently readable. Readers are strongly urged to check out www.trikone.org and the khush listserv to see where the desi queer movement is heading these days.

A rare gem...
This book is an amazing and masterful piece of work. Due to the significant lack of material pertaining to the South Asian Diasporic LBGTQ community one can easily see the relevence and necessity for such a publication. Personal, provacative, critical, analytical, cross-cultural, and ethnically specific are keywords that come to mind in reviewing this title. Highly recommended for any LBGTQ person regardless of ethnicity. A useful resource for any student pursuing academic studies in Queer Studies or South Asian Studies. As relevent today as it was when it was first published!

Fascinating portrayal of queer South Asian experiences
There are very few books on and by queer of color. This book is a very significant anthology that has not been equaled for over 8 years.
