An instant favorite, a must for Advent
Kids all know Santa is coming to their house. Do they know about Jesus coming? If you're looking for ways to give God a little equal time during the pre-Christmas crush, get this book for your kids. Little ones love to hear about animals, so the barnyard perspective of the first Christmas night is particularly effective. They will love the pictures, which depict the busy goings-on of each animal who has a job to prepare the barn for the special visitors. As the pages proceed, a subtle nighttime darkness grows, demonstrating the long wait children will associate with waiting for Christmas: "But it is dark," says Cat. "They will never come," says Rat. "Yes, they'll come, says Mouse. "Someone's coming to this house." The hypnotic cadence of the the spare text will keep them interested and turning pages to find out the answer to the all-important question: "Who is coming to our house?"

I bought this book for my under-two-year-old boys and my nearly five-year-old daughter never misses the nightly reading. It is a new Advent family tradition we all enjoy.

Great book :)
I've had this book for 18 years and it's still one of my favorites. I love the simple story line and it tells the story of the birth of Jesus in a unique way. I am working towards becomming a preschool teacher and this will be a must in my classroom. If your looking for the best book for a child this is deffinatly it.

Also Good for One and Two-Year Olds
Who is Coming to Our House? is a super-favorite of my granddaughters, 14 months and 2-1/2. The black-outlined familiar farm animals and the final picture of the baby Jesus are just what they love. They study the details: apples, Joseph's lantern in the distance, Mary's toes. And the soft verse is hypnotic. A perfect last book before bed. No need to save this one for later. It is becoming my standard baby gift.

Excellent Anthology of Coming Out stories!
I was very moved by this collection of stories by gay authors. It's a book you'll read again and again. I especially liked the way the book starts with essays about coming out in the 50's and moves up to present day experiences. Gay men will see something of themselves in the stories, and others will come to understand what it's like for a gay person to deal with their sexuality.

Excellent Book
I am a lesbian who also enjoys reading books about gay boys & men. Coming out stories are of special interest to me.

This book is exceptionally well written. It begins with pre-Stonewall entries and tells each person's story up thru the 1990's---so that the reader gets a very good overall historical view of the way homosexuality is viewed and the progress the gay community & individuals have made.

Each of the stories (there are approx. 29) is told in the first person, telling the author's own experiences from youth to adulthood. With only one or two exceptions, the stories are extremely well told. All of the stories told are written by men who are professional writers.

In addition, there is a photograph of each of the men the way he appeared in his youth at the time the story happened, and in the back of the book a picture of how he looks today---along with a brief bio about him and other writings he has done.

These men really reached out and touched me. Each one made me feel as if I really knew him.

Read This Book and Come Out Wherever You Are!!!!
A must read for those who have come out, are coming out, haven't come out, or those who want to try to understand those who are coming out. You'll laugh, you'll cry! Better than cats--you'll read it again and again and again.... Reading this book, it was great to find out that different thoughts, feelings, experiences that occured through my coming out were shared by others, even those much older than I!

Beware, Church
Horton and others clearly delineate the dangers which face the Church of Jesus Christ, and if you're looking for fluff or easy reading, here, find another book like Max Lucado. This is meaty reading and worthy of the purchase. Highly recommended.

The Warning is Clear
Some of the conservative church's greatest ambassadors deliver a great message in this book. Some very godly and inteligent men deliver a warning to the church of the future. The books basic theme is that the church must be circumspect so that it does not drift away from biblical dependence. The present day church has come to depend on so many sources for their theological understanding when ultimately scripture should be the only recognized voice. This book defends the traditional evangelical faith while giving and understanding of obvious needs of reform. Readers of this book will become acutely aware of the problems and solutions of the modern godly church.

It is a fantastic book!
With regard the authority of Scripture, most Christians would agree that the Bible is our authority in some sense. But in exactly what sense does the Bible claim to be our authority? I think evangelical Christianity is in serious trouble in that matter. In fact, it is facing big challenges for keeping Biblical faith. Some present-day evangelicals do not believe more in the Bible. The Scripture becomes just a very important thing, but not more a sufficient an inerrant Word of God. In their opinion, we have other sources to learn about God and his will for the Church today. So, if you are considering that questions into your heart, I would like to recommend you to read this book and The Compromised Church (from the same general Editor).

It grabs you by the.............
I am (very untypically) finding it difficult to express how important this book is. It's a story of incredible endurance and perseverance that will help you stop worrying about most of what's troubling you. It's also a reminder that everyone in the world does not think the same way, that other cultures and countries are very different, and that we truly have something special in the U.S. Our society of law, freedom, independence is very precious -- worth defending against enemies, both foreign and domestic. In a time when some Americans seem bent on giving away our democracy in order to feel safe again, this story is a powerful reminder of why we must all stand up for freedom. And if you think these comments are overblown, read the book anyway and decide again when you're done.

A story of incredible triumph against all odds.
I first read Herman's "Coming out of the Ice" when I was 14 yrs old. Since my first encounter with the book, I have opened the worn covers many times to re-read my favorite excerpts.

I will pass this book on to my children just as my father did to me. For, this story heralds the triumph of the human spirit in the bleakest sittuations imaginable. We must remember the acts of Stalin and other leaders like him. Only by studying the history of human supression can we move forward into the future with the confidence that the human spirit will triumph.

Tongight when you are eating your dinner in a heated home, remember these words, "Two potatoes Papa?"

The Most Incredible Book I Have Ever Read!
I was so moved while reading this book I could hardly eat or sleep. It pounds at your heart and tears your soul and makes you laugh and cry ,like I have never done with reading any book! "This book should be a classic period"! I have read Solzhenitsyn Gulag Archipelago "But" Victor Herman "Coming Out Of The Ice" is number #1. Because I couldnt stop thinking about it for years and years. It leaves an impression at your very soul and you come out alive and on top! Hang on to seat because its a True Story you wont forget as long as you live. Sincerely Chuck Kinney

Precision and focus
Anderson was an investigator and he tackles the prophecy of Daniel and the accumulation of evidence like a pro. When he wanted to know exactly when the moon would rise in a given year he wrote to the Astronomer Royal (who responded).
He writes in a somewhat flowery and formal style and there is very little devotional content. Although I'm sure he was a devout believer he is not setting out (in this case) to 'lift Christ up'. He was living in a time when higher and lower criticism were attacking the book of Daniel and he sets out to put forward a 'case' for the simple truth of scripture.
In his beliefs he appears similar to Arno C Gaebelien (who has done an excellent book on Daniel too).
Anderson settles for a 'traditional' pre-millenialist view of Daniel.
I don't think I would recommend this as a first commentary on Daniel or possibly even as a second. But for someone who has already gotten embroyled in all the controversy surrounding the book then this is an extremely scholarly work that HAS to be read, if only because you want to dis-agree with it!

A deep and clear biblical study
I was amazed with the deep biblical knowledge I found in this book. As a commom man who likes to study I was enriched with the prophetic study and many other information about people, kings and dates mentioned in the Bible. I do recommend its reading to everyone who believes the Bible is the true word of God and wants to know more about prophecy.

No wonder he busted Jack the Ripper!
Sir Robert Anderson, inspector of Scotland Yard, and careful Bible student not only busted The Ripper, but went on to investigate with painstaking care the Great Prophecy of Daniel's 70 hebdomads. With the care and precision of his Scotland Yard background, Anderson reviews the 69 weeks of the Great Prophecy, dots the yods and crosses the tittles (are there such things in Chaldee?) and brings us to a precision rendezvous with the planned (2nd) triumphal entry of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Mark as the fulfilment of the 69 weeks.

The great care he takes demonstrates that he was no clergyman, but a real Bible student.

Ignore the man behind the curtain, D. Pentecost could never have done this work. This fellow may be second only to EW Bullinger as a recent and real Bible student.

Letter to the Author
Dear Katherine Holubitsky,

I want to say that I have enjoyed reading your story, "Alone at Ninety Foot". I liked it because it was very sad. It reminded me of my friend's grandmother. I realized how it feels to lose someone special. My friend's and Pamela's actions were the same. It made me want to read the story even more. It is very depressing knowing that you can't replace a loved one. Therefore my opinion on the story is that it is very touching. You can go through a lot of pain and grief losing a loved one.

I like to commend youfor such a good job on organizing the story. The character development was great. It made the story easier for me to understand. I like how you organized the character's roles.

In conclusion, I want to say thank you for doing a great job and letting me to enjoy a wonderful novel.

Truly yours,
Manly Lau(Francis Libermann Catholic High School)

Alone at niety foot
Have you ever felt lonely? Have young ever lost someone you love? Katherine Holubitsky takes you through the exciting life of Pamela Collins. For being Katherine Holubitsky first book it is really good. The book has lots of wonderful characters like Pamela who is the principal character, her father, the boring girl friend of her father, and the other people at school.
Pamela is about 14 years old. She likes to sped most of her time at a mountain called Ninety Foot, she likes these place because she uses it as a hiding place when she escapes from school and it also reminds her of her mother. For Pamela this mountain is special but for the other people in town no because lots of people have gone missing and lots of murders have take place in there. Pamela is affected because of her mothers death how jumped of a bridged because of the depression of her lost child. After the sad death of her mother Pamela finds out that her father is dating a women but for Pamela these is not a problem because he doesn't last much with her. After one more women Pamela's father ends up with a women, which results to be a banker and a nerd.
Pamela at school is a lonely girl who doesn't likes to socialize just with her friends. Pamela has problems with the most popular girl at school because she is very stuck up. Pamela hates to hear stories about people dieing or committing suicide because it reminds her of her mothers death. Pamela is having problems because she is experiencing the development of her body. During the book Pamela struggles during her teen-age life.
I like this book because it made me read and read until a finish it. I also liked it because it has good descriptions. I hope you read this book.

A compendium of practical advice
Coming Here: Learning To Live In America was conceived and written by Rezzan A. Erten (who arrived in the United States from Ankara, Turkey, when she was seven years old and who currently serves as a contracting officer with the U.S. General Service Administration's Federal Technology Services Division) to be a compendium of practical advice, unsuspected choices, and creative insights into how nearly arrived immigrants and visitors to the United States could quickly and informatively acclimate themselves to their new surroundings. In this aspiration, Rezzan is so resoundingly successful that Coming Here can be strongly and enthusiastically recommended for even home-grown Americans who would like to view this country through fresh and renewed perspectives, as well as anyone, anywhere, who has moved into a new community and wishes to become a part of whatever there is that their new surroundings, neighbors, and community institutions have to offer.

A worthwhile read!
This is a charming and informative book, packed with information told in a very personal manner. I'd highly recommend it to those in other countries planning to visit or move to the United States, and also to Americans interested in learning about the process of adaptation faced by newcomers. Thank you Ms. Erten!

Coming Here
Excellent book! Anyone considering a move to the US should read this wonderful book!

A Fresh and Fascinating Read.
"Coming Home to You" by Fay Robinson is a touching and emotional story that will captivate readers. With a touch of mystery added to the romance, this book will appeal to many.
Kathryn Morgan is a successful and sought-after biographer on a mission. Ever since she met singer-songwriter James Hayes when she was 19 years old, she has wanted to write his story. Now, several years after James' tragic death in a plane crash, Kate has tracked down James' brother, Bret Hayes, a reclusive horse-breeder, in a last-ditch attempt to get a Hayes family member to assist with her book.
To Bret Hayes, Kate is the number one enemy and his worst nightmare. Not only is she beautiful, but she's extremely intelligent and incredibly determined as well, which makes her a prime candidate to uncover his family's darkest secret. Bret originally wants Kate to leave him alone, but after spending time in her company, he begins to see that he's falling in love with her. Now Bret is in a terrible situation, because the woman who holds his heart is the one person with the power to destroy him!
"Coming Home to You" is a highly original and satisfying read. The characters are richly portrayed and intriguing and the storyline will keep you turning pages. I most definitely recommend this book and I guarantee you will enjoy it!

Book Reviewer for Myshelf.Com
Fay Robinson is famous for creating a story that will play with her readers' emotions. COMING HOME TO YOU is no exception. This book will quickly consume the reader and will set them on an emotional roller coaster ride. As an added bonus, this book is not only for romance readers, it provides a mystery that will keep any mystery reader guessing right until the very end.

World famous author Kathryn Morgan has idolized James Hayes, singer-songwriter, since the young age of nineteen. She credits James for believing in her abilities to succeed in life. Unfortunately her idol's life ended tragically in a plane crash. As a lasting tribute she wants to honor him by writing his autobiography. There is just one problem, no one from James family will grant her an interview. In a final effort to save her book she seeks out Bret Hayes, James mysterious brother. She feels he knows secrets that will help ensure her book is a success.

Bret Hayes leads a different life than his famous brother he simple wants to live a peacefully and breed horses on his Alabama farm. He is unprepared for Kathryn Morgan entrance into his life. Little does he know when he finds a woman trapped in his tree by his faithful dog Sallie that she will have the power to turn his entire life upside down.

With a cleverly crafted cast of characters and a story that will keep you guessing COMING HOME TO YOU is a must read. I predict it will be one of the best reads of the year 2001.

Fay Robinson has done it again.
A MAN LIKE MAC was wonderful, and with her latest, COMING HOME TO YOU, Fay Robinson weaves another emotional story filled with gripping tension, heart-stopping and heart-warming moments. Her tortured hero and spunky heroine are perfectly matched. Have the tissues handy.

Many Moving Tales
A host of compelling stories marks COMING OF AGE as one of the top efforts from oral historian Studs Terkel. We hear from dozens of outstanding senior citizens, each one giving their personal remembrance of American life in the 20th Century. The mostly liberal interviewees range from ordinary citizens to baseball activist Marvin Miller, Congressmen Henry Gonzalez and (the late) Charles Hayes, and Chicago medical director Quentin Young. Readers get a strong personal sense of major events like the Depression, World War II, McCarthyism and Civil Rights - something one seldom gets from dry academic texts. The book also lends credence to tales many of us once heard from older and often now-departed relatives.

I gave COMING OF AGE just four starts because Terkel's increasing rigidity in sticking with liberal interviewees deprives readers of an honest cross-section of views. Despite this flaw, COMING OF AGE remains a moving effort.

A poignant step back from the new millennium...
Studs Terkel captures in this volume what few children of the new millennium will ever learn about or experience: how our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents grew up, grew old, and left footprints on the twentieth century. His vignettes of life throughout the century, focused on the lives of amazing Americans from coast to coast, are quite profound. Terkel did not profile famous athletes, politicians, and CEOs; his interviews capture the lives of those who have made - and continue to make - an impact on our local communities.

It did not take very long to become addicted to this book. Terkel captures some of the most valuable American minds at just the right moment. The interviews give a first-hand look at history while capturing pearls of wisdom for the future. I recommend this volume as a gift and as a textbook for students. What Studs Terkel has captured here is worthy reading for any generation.

Mesmerizing
American society suffers from collective Alzheimer's, says Studs Terkel, "and the young are suffering from it the most severely. We don't know anything aboout the past and we don't seem to want to know." The author of widely-praised, bestselling books like Hard Times, Working, Race and The Good War, Terkel interviews 70 strong minded and outspoken Americans, the youngest of whom is 70, the oldest 99. Nearly every page is mesmerizing. Particularly delightful are his interviews with art critic Katherine Kuh (at age 89) and Sophia Mumford (at 94), the widow of Lewis Mumford.

Exellent Resource!
Fro anyone who is struggling with coming out issues, or for anyone who has a gay or lesbian friend or family member this is an ESSENTIAL read. The book deals with the issue of shame that is tied to the coming out of many gay and lesbian people and offers help in getting rid of that shame. Written with compassion, this book gives the reader a sense of freedom and is a gret help in the coming-out process. Highly recommended!

Change your life -- for the better!
As a young man coming out, my journey of self-discovery started with quiet months of reading. I read everything I could get my hands on about homosexuality and being gay. This book stands out as the single greatest influence during and since that time. The authors have taken a careful and thorough examination of the sociology and psychology of shame as it relates to being gay. The reading is thick, but worth the time to slowly wade through and internalize the material. I found myself saying, "Finally, someone who understands my whole mindset!" I began to change my thinking as I read it. Congratulations to the authors for writing a book so important to the lives of many.

Essential Reading
I'm not eloquent enough to tell you about why this book is so good or how it helped me so much, but I do want people who are reading the customer reviews for this book to know that this book made a HUGE and POSITIVE impact on my life--it really helped me combat my inner turmoil over self-esteem and coming/being out. Coming out is one of the hardest things I think any human being has to do--and there are a lot of emotional issues tied up into it, one being this guilt or shame of existing. ("I feel guilt/shameful that I'm gay.") Society burns this feeling into gay and lesbian people's brains. This book will help you repair some of that damage and find your true, whole self. I am so thankful to Drs. Kaufman and Raphael for writing this book--it is truly an important contribution to the literature about coming out and an honest-to-God lifesafer. I recommend this book with all my heart.
