This book is exceptionally well written. It begins with pre-Stonewall entries and tells each person's story up thru the 1990's---so that the reader gets a very good overall historical view of the way homosexuality is viewed and the progress the gay community & individuals have made.
Each of the stories (there are approx. 29) is told in the first person, telling the author's own experiences from youth to adulthood. With only one or two exceptions, the stories are extremely well told. All of the stories told are written by men who are professional writers.
In addition, there is a photograph of each of the men the way he appeared in his youth at the time the story happened, and in the back of the book a picture of how he looks today---along with a brief bio about him and other writings he has done.
These men really reached out and touched me. Each one made me feel as if I really knew him.

I will pass this book on to my children just as my father did to me. For, this story heralds the triumph of the human spirit in the bleakest sittuations imaginable. We must remember the acts of Stalin and other leaders like him. Only by studying the history of human supression can we move forward into the future with the confidence that the human spirit will triumph.
Tongight when you are eating your dinner in a heated home, remember these words, "Two potatoes Papa?"

He writes in a somewhat flowery and formal style and there is very little devotional content. Although I'm sure he was a devout believer he is not setting out (in this case) to 'lift Christ up'. He was living in a time when higher and lower criticism were attacking the book of Daniel and he sets out to put forward a 'case' for the simple truth of scripture.
In his beliefs he appears similar to Arno C Gaebelien (who has done an excellent book on Daniel too).
Anderson settles for a 'traditional' pre-millenialist view of Daniel.
I don't think I would recommend this as a first commentary on Daniel or possibly even as a second. But for someone who has already gotten embroyled in all the controversy surrounding the book then this is an extremely scholarly work that HAS to be read, if only because you want to dis-agree with it!
The great care he takes demonstrates that he was no clergyman, but a real Bible student.
Ignore the man behind the curtain, D. Pentecost could never have done this work. This fellow may be second only to EW Bullinger as a recent and real Bible student.

I want to say that I have enjoyed reading your story, "Alone at Ninety Foot". I liked it because it was very sad. It reminded me of my friend's grandmother. I realized how it feels to lose someone special. My friend's and Pamela's actions were the same. It made me want to read the story even more. It is very depressing knowing that you can't replace a loved one. Therefore my opinion on the story is that it is very touching. You can go through a lot of pain and grief losing a loved one.
I like to commend youfor such a good job on organizing the story. The character development was great. It made the story easier for me to understand. I like how you organized the character's roles.
In conclusion, I want to say thank you for doing a great job and letting me to enjoy a wonderful novel.
Truly yours,
Manly Lau(Francis Libermann Catholic High School)
Pamela is about 14 years old. She likes to sped most of her time at a mountain called Ninety Foot, she likes these place because she uses it as a hiding place when she escapes from school and it also reminds her of her mother. For Pamela this mountain is special but for the other people in town no because lots of people have gone missing and lots of murders have take place in there. Pamela is affected because of her mothers death how jumped of a bridged because of the depression of her lost child. After the sad death of her mother Pamela finds out that her father is dating a women but for Pamela these is not a problem because he doesn't last much with her. After one more women Pamela's father ends up with a women, which results to be a banker and a nerd.
Pamela at school is a lonely girl who doesn't likes to socialize just with her friends. Pamela has problems with the most popular girl at school because she is very stuck up. Pamela hates to hear stories about people dieing or committing suicide because it reminds her of her mothers death. Pamela is having problems because she is experiencing the development of her body. During the book Pamela struggles during her teen-age life.
I like this book because it made me read and read until a finish it. I also liked it because it has good descriptions. I hope you read this book.

Kathryn Morgan is a successful and sought-after biographer on a mission. Ever since she met singer-songwriter James Hayes when she was 19 years old, she has wanted to write his story. Now, several years after James' tragic death in a plane crash, Kate has tracked down James' brother, Bret Hayes, a reclusive horse-breeder, in a last-ditch attempt to get a Hayes family member to assist with her book.
To Bret Hayes, Kate is the number one enemy and his worst nightmare. Not only is she beautiful, but she's extremely intelligent and incredibly determined as well, which makes her a prime candidate to uncover his family's darkest secret. Bret originally wants Kate to leave him alone, but after spending time in her company, he begins to see that he's falling in love with her. Now Bret is in a terrible situation, because the woman who holds his heart is the one person with the power to destroy him!
"Coming Home to You" is a highly original and satisfying read. The characters are richly portrayed and intriguing and the storyline will keep you turning pages. I most definitely recommend this book and I guarantee you will enjoy it!
World famous author Kathryn Morgan has idolized James Hayes, singer-songwriter, since the young age of nineteen. She credits James for believing in her abilities to succeed in life. Unfortunately her idol's life ended tragically in a plane crash. As a lasting tribute she wants to honor him by writing his autobiography. There is just one problem, no one from James family will grant her an interview. In a final effort to save her book she seeks out Bret Hayes, James mysterious brother. She feels he knows secrets that will help ensure her book is a success.
Bret Hayes leads a different life than his famous brother he simple wants to live a peacefully and breed horses on his Alabama farm. He is unprepared for Kathryn Morgan entrance into his life. Little does he know when he finds a woman trapped in his tree by his faithful dog Sallie that she will have the power to turn his entire life upside down.
With a cleverly crafted cast of characters and a story that will keep you guessing COMING HOME TO YOU is a must read. I predict it will be one of the best reads of the year 2001.
I gave COMING OF AGE just four starts because Terkel's increasing rigidity in sticking with liberal interviewees deprives readers of an honest cross-section of views. Despite this flaw, COMING OF AGE remains a moving effort.
It did not take very long to become addicted to this book. Terkel captures some of the most valuable American minds at just the right moment. The interviews give a first-hand look at history while capturing pearls of wisdom for the future. I recommend this volume as a gift and as a textbook for students. What Studs Terkel has captured here is worthy reading for any generation.

I bought this book for my under-two-year-old boys and my nearly five-year-old daughter never misses the nightly reading. It is a new Advent family tradition we all enjoy.
