An outstanding resource, very well-researched
The 2002 Multistate Guide to Benefits Law is an informative, well-written, and highly useful tool for human resources and legal professionals. As an attorney who works in the Human Resources field full-time, I appreciate the accuracy and timeliness of this and Mr. Buckley's other works. John Buckley actually has an entire library of publications relating to various aspects of employment law, many of which are designed to assist HR professionals, while others are created for attorneys practicing in specialized areas. Clearly, an enormous amount of expert research coupled with attention to detail have enabled the author to produce voluminous works of unparalleled accuracy. I give the Multistate Benefits Guide and all of John Buckley's publications my heartiest recommendation.

EXCELLENT MARRIAGE OF HISTORY & CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP LESSONS
I am a leadership trainer and give over 200 programs per year. My leadership library is extensive and varied. Most of the new leadership books are just "love song" books - they are saying the same thing in a different way. In this book, the messages are the same, but the writing methodology is fresh and different.

James has accomplished an intriguing and "page turner" leadership lessons book by including detailed historic examples of each of Maxwell's 21!

New Book About the San Francisco Vigilantes
A review from Wild West Magazine, June 2000:

The two largest movements of vigilantism in the American West occurred in 1851 and 1856 San Francisco during the California Gold Rush, and right in the middle of both of them--but not on the vigilantes' side--was one Charles P. ("Dutch Charley") Duane. In '51, the Committee of Vigilance banished Dutch Charley from San Francisco, saying he would face a penalty of death if he returned. Seems he had been involved in at least seven brawls, including the beating and shooting of a French actor named Amedee Fayolle. But the vigilantes disbanded that fall, and Duane was soon back in town and making trouble again. During the next several years, he was involved in at least half a dozen violent incidents. When the San Francisco Committee of Vigilance formed in 1856, it targeted Dutch Charley and once again warned him to leave and never to return under penalty of death.

There were two sides to Dutch Charley, though. He was also a fearless fireman. He played a courageous role in saving much of the St. Francis Hotel from a fiery fate in October 1853 and, less than two months after that, was elected chief engineer of the fire department. When the heat died down after his 1856 banishment from San Francisco, Duane quietly returned to town early in 1860 and, within weeks, was honored during a fire department meeting. Dutch Charley would stay put, become involved in politics again (he had once been a chief henchman for the politically powerful David C. Broderick), and outlast most of his drinking buddies.

John Boessenecker does justice to Dutch Charley's colorful story in 50 pages, which constitutes the "Introduction." It has to be one of the longest and best introductions you'll find in a Western history book and serves as more than a warm up for Duane's own memoirs, originally published in the San Francisco Examiner in 1881 and now published for the first time in book form. Duane's 100-page account, as Boessenecker describes it, "provides a firsthand viewpoint of one of the most outspoken opponents of vigilance in San Francisco." Highpoints include getting Duane's take on a double hanging by the vigilantes on May 22, 1856, and on his own capture soon afterward for refusing to "go and bow down to the Vigilance Committee." Boessenecker also provides detailed explanatory notes that help complete this fascinating look at one man's violent life and one boom city's most violent era.

a must have reference book for real estate investors
I can not imagine not having John T. Reeds books, especially this one, on my bookshelf. I constantly refer to this book whenever I am reviewing my investment strategies for my properties. I have found his philosophy extremely clear & concise. I appreciate his material so much because it stands out far above many other Real Estate books by "so-called" gurus who are basically pedalling snake oil to the general public. He gives purposeful & useful information. I own 5 of his books and have always found them to be a worthy investment.

Every American Should Own This Book
This really is a fantastic book. Professor Meador, having spent half a century as a teacher at one of the world's finest law schools and as a consultant and advisor to legal scholars and judges from state courts to the Supreme Court, manages to speak to everyone who hasn't had the opportunity to attend law school. Reading this book won't make you a lawyer, but you will understand exactly what happens in our court systems - a must for new law students, foreign lawyers and anyone interested in how their nation's legal systems work. It was an invaluable help in my first year of law school, and worth every dime.

Covers Everthing - Federal and State
I was looking at other publications on this subject, and they only cover federal law. This one allows me to comply with federal law, the law of any particular state, or the laws of all 50 states at once! Instead of just descriptions of the law, the book gave me practical steps on how to comply. Plus, the included software made it easy to build all the forms I needed. This product really was a one stop solution for me.

Excellent text book
I found this book to be clear and very understandable in teaching the basic foundations of law. The many examples in the book, of how the law works, that the author gave also proved to be quite helpful to my students. This book would not only be helpful to the busines student, but to any person who has an interest in learning about the many aspects of law.

A solid introduction to the roots of contemporary terrorism
John Hamilton's "Behind the Terror" volume in the War on Terrorism series begins with the important question most young students would most like to have answered: "Why do they hate us?" After all, the idea that people would deliberately fly airlines into skyscrapers is foreign to our way of thinking. Consequently, in searching for the answers, Hamilton tries to explain the roots and beliefs of the terrorists responsible for what happened on September 11th.

Specifically, this book looks at five aspects: (1) Terrorism and War considers how armies have used terror from the time of the Romans in the Punic Wars against Carthage to World War II, in which Hamilton covers how both sides targeted civilians. (2) Anti-Colonialism considers how terrorism has been used by weak groups to fight overwhelmingly powerful governments, and notes that the dilemma of calling someone a terrorist or a freedom fighter can be rather troubling, pointing out how the term could apply to Nelson Mandela's efforts fighting apartheid in South Africa or the creation of the state of Israel. (3) International Terrorism focuses more specifically on the actions of Palestinean supporters, mostly targeted against Israelis. (4) Religious Terrorism starts off by comparing the Jewish extremist who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin with the Islamic suicide bombers of HAMAS, provides a brief history lesson on fundamentalist extremists from the Thuggees and Assassins to Timothy McVeigh, and then devotes a lengthy section to the recent activities of militant Islamic fundamentalists. (5) Anti-Americanism is presented as basically anti-Westernism, when American defining the West for the entire world, not just Muslims. This chapter touches briefly on the Crusades, and if I had one strong suggestion for revising this book it would be that historical tensions between Muslims and Christians could be explored more.

The final chapters in this book look at Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda in terms of September 11th, which raises a final important question: What to do about terrorism? Hamilton does a nice job of presenting the geo-political situation in a straightforward fashion, calling for engagement with radical regimens while continuing to support Israel and stop state supported terrorism. Overall, this is a solid introduction to the roots of terrorism today. Hamilton covers all of the bases and obviously tries to maintain a fair and balanced presentation throughout the book. A companion volume in this series on Osama bin Laden provides more details about both the terrorist leader and the al-Qaeda organization.
