Critical approach to contract law
The choice of books on contract law for students and practitioners is divided in the main between straightforward text/case books and secondary commentaries. John takes us in a new direction, lifting the skirts on the subject in the tradition of critical legal scholarship. As entertaining as it is stimulating and informative.

If you are interested in a career in corrections this book is for you -- whether or not you are currently in school.

Still the interrogator's Bible
Decades after its first edition, this is still considered the best work on interrogating a criminal suspect. The authors walk you through every step, towards the goal of clearing the innocent and eliciting confessions from the guilty. No detail or nuance is left unexplored, not only of the suspect's behavior, but of your own as well. This book is a must read for anyone involved in criminal justice.

A Valuable Resource
This textbook is a testament to the fact that Richard Bonnie is truly one of the giants in the field of criminal law. Everything this man writes is valuable; the chapters on mental health and insanity alone make purchasing this book worthwhile (Bonnie is an expert on the insanity defense). This book definitely leant itself to rich and provocative classroom discussions. I enjoyed the book almost as much as I enjoyed his class. I would recommend this text to any professor who is interested in spicing up his or her criminal law classes.

Democracy's Constitution: Claiming the Privileges of American Citizenship

Fresh charting of U.S. Constitution
Occasionally a slim volume appears that shatters old expectancies, recasts an entire way of thinking. Modernly, Thomas Kuhn's "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" comes to mind; or Machiavelli's "The Prince," if one traces back in time. "Democracy's Constitution" is such a book. Without apology, John Denvir argues his case for where and when constitutional jurisprudence abandoned the path set by the ideal vision of a "pursuit of happiness" and the nation of equal opportunity demanded in the Civil War Amendments (i.e., the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth). More pointedly, he also guides the reader through a scrupulously reasoned constitutional means for solving the most vexing policy tangles the U.S. faces in the Twenty-first Century. Specifically, the privileges or immunities clause of the Fourteenth Amendment grants affirmative rights of national citizenship, which it is time the courts recognize fulsomely. They include rights: of an opportunity to earn a living; to a first-rate education; to have a voice that's heard; and to cast a vote that counts. Denvir's writing has clarity to please any layperson, and precision to satisfy any lawyer. The goal of reforming campaign contributions, for instance, is confronted in Chapter 4, "A Voice That's Heard." Current constitutional doctrine creates a condition where without effective spending limitations political equality among citizens is obscenely farcical. Put simply, that enormous wealth should constitutionally overwhelm the political voice of those with modest means is antithetical to democracy. Is the book utopian? Professor Denvir concedes its opposition to current Supreme Court decisions. But that is also the reason for writing it. His prescriptions are not, he insists, "wildly impracticable," beyond either "the fiscal or administrative reach of the United States." Finding the political will is all that's needed.

Review of Economics of regulation and antitrust
This work provides an excellent overview of the field of regulation from an economic point of view. The primary focus is economic rather than institutional -- as a result it is more appropriate for economists than for legal scholars. Although the book does not require extensive training in economics, it does assume some formal knowledge of basic economic concepts. Since its focus is economic, little time is spent discussing legal cases surrounding many of the regulations compared with, for example, Law, Business, and Society, by McAdams, et. al.

If you work for a large Corporation you should read this book PERIOD. Wish I had read it before a bad day. The author gives you everything you need to know to protect yourself should you find yourself terminated suddenly. Especially useful to long service employees but anyone with 10 years plus should make themselves read it.
