For hoops everywhere
back when I was a star for the Syracuse Orangemen faking slow footed forwards out of their jocks, I would have loved a small book of poems like this to reflect back upon during those down times. Dougherty gets it right. He captures the schoolyard feel and the threat of violence that surrounds the teeming love in the city. These are real people I could relate to, like the hotshot female ball player Maria who has the jumpshot I've always wanted.

Fascinating reading for historical recreationists
Swarming On The Battlefield: Past, Present, And Future by Sean Edwards is a slim yet densely packed and insightful analysis of swarming as a military tactic, with a keen eye to its use in history. Heavily annotated and featuring numerous black-and-white diagrams to better illustrate its concepts, Swarming On The Battlefield is excellent, fascinating reading for historical recreationists, as well as students and non-specialist general readers with a keen interest in military science.

This book "fills in the holes" for a beginner
I have been working on a "vanilla" 10meg ethernet (campus) for 18 months which will soon be upgraded. This book explains, in very easy to understand terms/diagrams, all the definitions & technical terms required to both get a good grasp on the basics and prepare for the leap to faster networks. If you are thinking of taking a 3 day seminar on Fast/Switched Ethernet or maybe a college course, this would be a better investment of your time and money. The only caution I would give is that it was written in 1995 and some of the "cutting edge" items are missing but it sure lays the groundwork to understanding advanced networks

Terminal (Isis Series)

A thriller with originality!
In Switzerland, a pharmaceutical company is conducting experiments on human guinea-pigs who are terminally ill. One escapes to tell the world of the Swiss military's best kept secret and soon enough, British secret agents Tweed and Bob Newman are on the case, cheating death, escaping from their enemies on Swiss trains and staying in the best hotels and drinking litres of champagne and coffee! Ah, but Forbes's books are fun in this respect. What is the secret project of the Swiss army, or rather a renegade battalion who is guarding the Berne Clinic? When Tweed finds out, the results could change the stability of western Europe for good . . . read on! Interesting Swiss locations, non-stop action(and champagne drinking) and an easy-reading storyline very typical of this fine British writer! Not to be missed.

There's a Boy in Here

a family account from both sides of the glass
While many books on autism tell either from a family or individual's viewpoint, this story is unique in that it presents the perspective from both sides. Paired with the mother's account is one of her son with autism. This was written during a time when autism was still between psychoanalysis & neurology so some of the interventions seem misguided (although acceptable at the time). When Sean reaches high school & begins to recognize himself as an autistic indiviual, it is an unusual awakening. Good family-account/personal-account reading.

Great collection of "sports" poetry
This is a great collection of stories/poems that sometimes strain for a sports nexus--but isn't that the point! From reflections on sports memories to eloquent musings on sports and family this is a wonderful anthology. All fans of poetry (and sports) should buy this book. Thank you Brooks Bros.!

Educational and insightful
This author "cuts-to-the-chase." No beating around the bush here--a serious disussion of gay and Disney. Great footnotes. Shame on bookcover cover writers--the cover sounds "so gay"--but this really is an important book about creativity and imagination.
