A splendid artbook
The Railway Paintings Of Alan Fearnley is an impressively memorable artbook showcasing Alan Fearnley's captivating, full-color oil-on-canvas paintings of a wide variety of celebrated steam locomotives. Each individual painting (and they are truly gorgeous!) has its own full page of information devoted solely to it, as well as a brief commentary on the history of the locomotive being featured. A splendid artbook in its own right, The Railway Paintings Of Alan Fearnley is most especially recommended for train buffs and railroading enthusiasts.

Friend of the author
I work with Hank Hassell at NAU and know him as a friend and kind and unassuming person who, from what I've gathered, can hike the doglegs off anyone. This book is the offspring of his love for the Colorado Plateau area. It is a well told story of a piece of our geological heritage that could only be written by someone who has been there and done that. I would recommend this book for the academic community as well as for travel buffs. Betty Lee/Library Specialist @ NAU

a savage chase across the Yosemite
This is the (mostly fictional) story of the life of James Savage, the man who discovered the Yosemite in 1851 and whose actions nearly led to the destruction of the entire Yosemite tribe. At the height of the California gold rush, Savage's forays into this region could only lead to dire consequences. Savage cheats Yosemite chief Tenaya of his gold (a historical event, recorded in other sources as well), then captures him on behalf of the Army. When Tenaya escapes from his reservation on the Fresno, it is Savage's duty to run after him again. What ensues is a series of breathtaking mountain chases across some of America's most stunning landscapes. How about making this into a film?

Extremely enjoyable reading a "must" for all Connery fans!
Sean Connery: A Biography is an exciting presentation of the actor and his life's work on the silver screen, including but not limited to his famous portrayal of James Bond 007. Black-and-white photographs, as well as a few color photographs illustrate virtually every two-page spread of this lavish celebration. The text by biographer Bob McCabe is relatively simple and straightforward, and offers a telling glimpse into the personal history that shaped the "Politically Incorrect Sexiest Man Alive." Sean Scully is of the finest painters in art history. Written, this book is half in Italian and half in English. All the writing within is wonderfull. A good portion is Hans-Michael Herzog interviewing Sean Scully, so you hear from Scully personally in regards to his work. This isn't the kind of book you borrow, this is the kind of book you own and keep for all time.

Well done
This is the pretty much the current and standard guide to the Canadian Rockies. More complete guides exist, though they are rare and out of print. This guide presents 200 of the best climbs, eliminating overdrawn discussions of the obscure and focusing nicely on routes that have become legendary in the mountaineering world. The book itself is well made and suitable for the top of your pack.
