My favorite journaling book!!!
I have been journaling for over 15 years and this has remained my most cherished one. I have had it for several years, working on it at various times and reviewing it whenever I need a reminder of how important MY story is. It is definately a window to one's soul, and it does it all in an affirming way. I am a therapist and reccommend it to clients often. It was through a client that I learned it was now out of print and scurried to find another. It is a wonderful gift to yourself. I am sure the teenage version is just at great!

THE BEST JOURNALING BOOK EVER!
I have a hard time just sitting down and writing...so this book was wonderful for me. Beautiful illustrations, gives great topics to write about, which helps you learn more about yourself. This book was very helpful to me in my recovery from anorexia.

incredible
i have never owned a book like this before in my life, I am so glad I purched this book. I feel it has changed my life in some ways i never thought it could. Rose offner is such a talented person and the subjects to write about are so real life. This book is incredible.

the transforming power of the beautiful
For the reader who has encountered tragic loss, Rose Marie Curteman in MY RENAISSANCE: A WIDOW'S HEALING PILGRAMAGE TO TUSCANY presents a genuine alternative to the talking cure of psychoanalysis or the silence of the Zen monastery. We follow her mid-life journey into Tuscany and are awakened to the transforming power of the beautiful to be found, for instance, in the painting, sculpture and architecture of the Florentine Renaissance, or in the lush and haunting autumn landscapes of Chianti, or in the exuberant celebration of life in Florentine kitchens and dining rooms, or in the expressive tunings and turnings of the Italian language. In a style which is remarably lucid and engaging, Rose Marie Curteman charts a path through memory and mourning into wonder and joy. In this incisive work it is death which comes to stand impotently before life, and not the other way around. The vibrant, playful, refreshing and healing energies of the beautiful as portrayed in Rose Marie Curteman's journey exert their transforming effect also on the reader. This book does not belong in the inflated genre of popular literature on visits to Italy. It is in a class of its own, marking a profound mid-life search for self after the tragic loss of a beloved spouse.

As beautiful a journey as the beauty of Tuscany
Rose Marie Curteman's My Renaissance: A Widow's Healing Pilgrimage to Tuscany is as beautiful as the journey on which beauty was her guide. I haven't read many books all the way through lately and I did hers. Even when one knows the outcome, one wants to keep reading. She told the story with such gentle depth with just the right touch of humor. We know as we read that even in grief, we will laugh again. Great characterization and wonderful pacing. Well done, well done. I hope it sells tons. I mean to buy a few copies as gifts.

Wisdom and optimism.
"Brevity is the soul of wit." And this book is a marvel of compressed wisdom and optimism. A unique read.

THE SWEET FEEL, TOUCH, AND SMELL OF LOVE CONQUERS ALL!
AS I WAS IN SEARCH OF AN EXCITING BOOK TO READ, I FOUND 'MY ROSE'. BELL COULD NOT HAVE WRITTEN A MORE BREATH TAKING NOVEL THAT DEALT WITH THE FEEL, TOUCH, AND SMELL OF LOVE. THIS LOVE INVOLVES ALL: GOD'S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, A MOTHER'S LOVE FOR HER SON, A SON'S LOVE, A FAMILIES LOVE AND FRIENDS' LOVE. I CRIED AND I REJOICED AS I READ A FAMILIY'S PERSONAL STRUGGLE WITH AIDS AND ITS STIGMAS. EVERYONE SHOULD READ ' MY ROSE': IT WILL FILL YOUR HEART WITH THE SMELL OF LOVE.

One of the more emotional books I have read in years.
While reading this book, it brought emotions from me that I thought I had long forgot about. This is a story for anyone who has losted a love one due to a long suffering illness, yet it is a story of love and devotion that goes back as far as time and forward as time goes on. It is a story that explains a mother's love, challenges and fears that we all have experienced, especially mothers. The lessons and questions at the end of each chapter can be used for many purposes. One they are a wonderful guide/outline for teachers of social workers or anyone who deals with individuals and families emotional needs. It is also a wonderful tool for those who lead discussion and support groups. It is my opinion that anyone experienced in the healing process for those who have lost love ones will view this book as a vehicle to assist grieving families. It is also a wonderful way for parents to think through the issues of having a homosexual children. In today's society acknowledging that one's child(ren) sexual orientation is different form ours is difficult and we do not often have friends or family to share our concerns. This book provides that place in time for parents to think about their individual situation and to know that they are not alone. I recommend this book for people of all ages and status. It brings the issues of love, family, illness and dying to a common level

It was hard to relive, the worst time in my life.
When my grand-mother gave me my copy of My Rose, it took me four weeks just read it. It was'nt that I wasn't interested. Its just that its hard to remember something that hurt you inside so deep. But when I did finaly get up enough courage to read it, It revealed to me how strong she was and still is! This book reveals how good God is when you think he's ignoring you prayers. It also explains how HIV/AIDS effects the black family, church, and just the world as a community. What I mean by that is, how some people can be compassionate while then others are ignorant of the disease, so they get scared and either run or fight. More people should be educated about the disease. Then less people would be scared and more people would be aware of the disease

great tool, can be used by anyone dealing with peds: ems, rt, rn and so on. go get it, its worth da money.

Compact; Easy to Use
I have carried the Pedi-Wheel in my fanny pack for a few years. The few times I have used it have earned high marks for its compactness, readibility, and ease of use. The most important feature for me is the "weight to age" reference. It allows me to calculate dosages when only an age of the patient is known. Estimating weights of small children is obviously more critical than adults.

The Fire agency that I work for has placed a Pedi-Wheel in all of the drug boxes.

Pedi-wheel
Pediatric emergencies are stressful and difficult, Mr. Rose has put together a tool (Pedi-wheel) that is easy to use and contains accurate information.

A Wonderful Christian Romance
I love romance stories but as a Christian always felt guilty when reading the "dirty" ones. When I purchased this book I did not even realize it was a Christian romance and had never read a Christian romance novel. I just thought it was a western/romance type of book. When I started reading and realized it was a Christian romance, to tell you the truth, I thought it would be boring as I was used to the steamy scenes in mainstream romance. Boy was I wrong! I laughed and cried with Rosie as I finished this book in only one day and immediatley ordered the other books in the series and not one has been a disappointment. I will never go back to mainstream romance books with their filthy scenes. I now can read about people falling in love in a Godly way. God Bless everyone who reads this.

Rosie is a character to fall in love with
Sometimes with series books, the characters are so perfect and predictable, I really don't care enough about them to read any of their further adventures. Not so with Rosie and the other residents of A Town Called Hope. I gobbled this story up as fast as I could and then waited anxiously for the sequels to arrive at my library. As soon as the Prairie Trilogy was in print--with Prairie Fire and Prairie Storm--I bought it for my friend for Christmas. She fell in love immediately with Catherine Palmer's characters, just like I did. Now she has bought Prairie Christmas and is a huge Catherine Palmer fan.

Catherine Palmer has created a cast of characters that will live on in the reader's mind long after the pleasure of reading Prairie Rose and its successors are over.

Great Christian romance
Rosenbloom Cotton Mills is ana unusual name for an unusual girl. Brought up in an orphange, Rosie is no stranger to hardship. But when she impulsively leaves the orphange for the Kansas praire, she takes on more hardship than she originally anticipated, including a dour widower, his young son who has never gotten to know his father, and a homestead desperately in need of a woman's touch. Rosie faces each challenge with a smile and with the knowledge that God is her father and his love in her heart. The humor in this book is expertly balanced with the hard praire life that Rosie comes to love. In the midst of her hardships, Rosie comes to understand the true meaning of not only God's love for her, but her love for Seth. Palmer is a great Christian romance writer in the tradition of Oke and Glover, and I recommend her highly.

One of My Favorites!
This book is one of my favorites of the Seven Brides series. Rose refuses to put up with any guff from 7 men who have been living rough lives for years as cattlemen without any woman around to "tame" them.

In the beginning, she's so spunky, that when the brothers show up for dinner and refuse to wash after a hard, sweaty, dirty day in the saddle, she up and tips the food-laden table over, to show how much she won't put up with any shenanigans.

I just love this book! I'm so glad that the publisher decided to continue to publish the book and make it available to a new set of readers who missed it before.

the start of something great.
The first time I Read Rose I was hooked on the whole series. It is a keeper one that you read over and over again

Rose Thornton is the best of all the brides
Rose Thornton convinces George Randolph to hire her after losing her job. I really admire Rose for her hard work of the house and the boys. When I first read it I coudn't put it down. I have read it so manny times. I'ts my favorite of the Seven Brides book.Rose is my favorite of all the Seven Brides. I love all of Leigh Greenwood's books. I am reading The Cowboy's books. After I read Sean I'm going to reread all of the Seven Brides books. They are defintly a keeper.

We love you Alfie!
All the Alfie and Annie Rose books are excellent! My son and I read them over and over, without getting bored. Gentle little stories about everyday life, with likeable characters and lovely illustrations. Often humorous. My favorite children's author.

The most wonderful series of books!
We raised all 3 of our children on Shirley Hughes's books ("Dogger" was the all-time favorite) and now I'm giving them to my first grandchild. Absolutely first-rate stories with the most exquisite, fascinating illustrations. Do your children/grandchildren a favor and get them hooked on this series!

A Wonderful Read for Adults and Children
This little story will truly touch the heart of everyone who reads it, young and old. My daughter, named Sharon Rose, brought it home from the school library. I suggest everyone buy a copy and donate it to your school libraries. It teaches a valuable lesson in self sacrifice while it ties in the love of God for His Creations. Super Book!

An amazing book for everyone
My best friend bought me this book and it really touch my life. The Lord spoke to me greatly through this book as I had been fasting in obedience to the Lord. The Rose of Sharon is an amazing book that will change hearts about how God loves who make sacrifices and live their lives making sacrifices for others

"The Greatest Lesson, Love"
This book is nourishment for the sight, mind, and soul.

As the story unfolds, one is taken page by page through a lush, vibrant, tapestry of visual art.

As we learn or are reminded of the even more breathtaking awesome power of selfless love, our spirit is deeply magnified.

I too cried. This book belongs in every home. It encompasses age, gender, and denomination.

Empathetic portrait of gender angst
Tremain's book is a moving portrait of what it means to be unsure of yourself and the price you pay for being different. It works as a whole, in that the main and supporting characters are very fully-fleshed and we have the chance to really like and understand them. Some elements, such as the mentally ill mother, seemed familiar and almost drawn from other novels I've read, but even these characters maintained a fresh quality that kept me interested. My only complaint is the final 1/4 stretch in which the main character, Mary/Marty, seems to spend a lot of time feeling sorry for herself. I know such is human, but for me a whine is still a whine.. However, even this doesn't tarnish the lovely prose and the well-paced plot. Definitely a recommended read.

A terrific story.
I completely agree with the five or six other reviews of this book for two reasons, one that it's an absolutely wonderful story and two that it's a shame that more people haven't reviewed it. It's one of those rare books that will capture you until you read the last page. The characters, as well as their relationships are so well crafted that you don't want them to end. It so touching and human that I can't imagine anyone would not fully enjoy it.

Being and daring to be different
If you think Rose Tremain's "Sacred Country" is anything like Virginia Woolf's "Orlando", you're wrong because Mary Ward didn't take centuries and successive reincarnations to morph into Martin. She had one mortal life to live and became Martin in that time. In short, Mary was a transexual, a boy trapped in a girl's body, who suffered great torment as a daughter to the brutish farmer, Sonny and his hapless spaced-out wife, Estelle who spends her life shuttling between the funny farm and home. Mary's struggle to come to terms with herself would have been intolerable in provincial Suffolk if not for the support of grandad Cord, schoolmistress Ms McRae and batmaker Edward Harker, all shining examples of humanity in a community constricted by a numbing lack of imagination. There's the goodhearted but dim witted and conventional minded Irene and the ever pragmatic Grace who hasn't the imagination to understand why her son, Walter needs to seek salvation in faraway Nashville as a country & western singer. Just as Mary finds her own support group, Walter relies on his uncle, Peter to inspire him. Even Timmy, Mary's brother, finally escapes to find fulfillment in a vocation that would break his father's heart. "Sacred Country" is a novel about the isolation and loneliness of non-conformists. The ghost-like figure of Livia (Estelle's mother, Cord's wife) symbolises the spirit of adventure and heroism. She hovers silently above the community like a big bird urging everyone to their own destinies. Mary took nearly three decades (from the day King George died in 1952) to become Martin. In that time, the world has changed, but have we ? "Sacred Country" is behind it all an ode to human courage. Tremain is a tremendous writer. She has written a novel that will endure. Highly recommended.

Amazing!
Just finished reading And Howls for us to Follow and thought the prose was inspiring, and superb cultural observation and commentary. Truly thought-provoking!

Serious Teachings and Deep Things Going On ...
Having read and contemplated this unusual and exceptional collection of poetry, I tend to see the poetry of Kenny Rose Butts as lessons in awareness, urging and pulling me ever-closer to wisdom and enlightenment. In a sometimes dark world, the poetry in "And Howls for us to Follow" enlightens us by literally shedding light on everything we as humans need to know to live a purposeful life and to transcend. All knowledge, all wisdom and all truth already exists for us to discover. That Kenny's poetry brings us into awareness of these virtues is what sets this poetry apart from the rest. That Kenny does so with selflessness, gentleness and love indicates that he is a true Nagual in the same vein as Carlos Castaneda, Dan Millman and Don Miguel Ruiz.

I would recommend this poetry collection to poetry lovers and "Beatnik" specialists, including Ginsberg enthusiasts ("And Howls" versus "Howl"). I would also exhort students of philosophy and political science to examine this book. There is plenty of logic and political truth here to cut your teeth on. Mostly, however, I would recommend this book to anyone on a spiritual path. It is truly a poetic textbook for seeing "things" and issues with a clearer eye.

Wakes you from your sleep!
And Howls for us to Follow" has challenged me to think about contemporary issues in a new way. It is provocative and shakes me from my sleep. Because this poetry is deeply heartfelt, it has been able to touch my heart. What is more important than to touch the heart of another person and awaken them anew?
