A unique gift for people who enjoy coffee-table art
Everyday Things: Glass is a beauteous celebration of its title substance and all the countless decorative and practical things that can be wrought with it - including cruets, canisters, inkwells, lanterns, pitchers, and paperweights. Gorgeous, full-color photographs fill every page with an artist's eye for elegance, while the prose text offers intensely researched, enlightening commentary about the specific history of countless glass objects of art and everyday use. Suzanne Slesin (Homestyle magazine editor-in-chief), Daniel Rozensztroch (Paris-based author), and Stafford Cliff (London-based author), and Marie-Pierre Morel (Paris-based, professional photographer) draw upon their many years of expertise to effectively collaborate with Everyday Things: Glass resulting in a visual compendium that takes commonplace things and turns them into elements of majesty Everyday Things: Glass is enthusiastically recommended as a unique and unusual gift for people who enjoy coffee-table art and photography books.

Much more than experimental procedures
Usually, books on the subject of experimental soil mechanics focus on laboratory procedures. This book, however, goes well beyond the procedures (which are neatly explained and illustrated with high quality photographs) and provides tools to process the resulting data with the help of common computer software.

Those two features could be enough to make it an excellent choice for a textbook in experimental soil mechanics, but the author gives much more than that. The book provides the complete and solid theoretical background for each one of the experiments, such as the consolidation theory, the analysis of stresses in a soil mass, and the foundations of the strength of soils, etc., before introducing the respective test procedures. This is a very useful reference for teachers and students and very effective as a way to link theory and experiment.

Besides all that, the book includes a detailed compilation of data about the soil properties that are studied in each experiment, common empirical correlations with other parameters or properties (with a critical point of view), and exercises with real case data.

Although all this material is not new and can be found in several reference books, this is perhaps the first one that puts it all together with the plus of the software tools that make the data interpretation work much easier.

Happy Skin
The pictures and format are vibrant and beautiful as well as clear and concise, which is huge bonus to any "how to" manual. There's a great overview of aromatherapy. I found the synopsis of the oils and how they will benefit your skin type to be very interesting and helpful, although, a few of the products have not been easy to find (but there's a list of contacts and mail order in the index). The exercises were easy to follow and gentle, with full color pic's and text explanation. The oils and exercices are soothing. I also found the full color poster of the exercises(included), to be helpful during travel. I've been on the daily program for 2 weeks now and I already feel a difference in the overall tone of my face. I like the way this book promotes a healthy alternative to preserving and resurecting younger skin. It's also a good read if you're interested in learning some fascinating basics about oils & aromatherapy. Aesthetically, I love this book. Great combination of instructional pic's and informative advice.

Very insightful book
This is a fascinating book that offers stimulating nuggets of understanding of some of life's great questions. What I liked about it is how the author introduces key topics from his own viewpoint without asserting that it is the only possible interpretation. And it is refreshing that he does not get caught up in defending or proving the validity of each topic. In fact, in addition to Church history, teaching, revelation and logic, he uses an interesting criterion for evaluating whether Christianity is believable - that the story of Christianity has an aesthetic beauty; that it "hangs together beautifully."

I also enjoyed how the author incorporates other religious texts and beliefs from Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism for comparison and contrast. This along with the historical perspective gives a "big picture" feel to the book. And yet the author makes it clear he is not going to do all the work for the reader. Each topic is only a jumping off point that stimulates the desire to read and contemplate more about the subject matter.

Part of the enjoyment of the book comes from Fr. Riches' ability to explain complicated concepts with clarity. This is obviously not easy for topics like original sin, Trinity, afterlife, free will, suffering, and love.

In fact for me it is the author's treatment of love that makes this book so special. He makes it very clear that the story of Christianity is a story of love. And this is certainly a message that is worth hearing again and again.

a preety and complete book
this is THE book to be baught if we are interested in the Finite Element Approximation of steady-state Stokes and Navier-Stokes Equations. Is a very exhaustive recopilation of mathematical and approximation results. The mathematical results are very rigorously prooven, but staying in an easy-to-read way of writing them, and the approximation results are very complete (including a complete appendix on classical finite element theory!).

The two chapters of Finite Element methods for the Stokes problem must be the most complete survay on stable elements that have been wroten, at least in the mathematical comunity, and the chapters dedicated to the Navier-Stokes equation includes all the classic results and classic tools on bifurcation phenomena and approximation results of isolated branches of solutions.

If there is something to be regreted is that the authors have not actualized the book, but anyway, the book (and the subject) is timeless. Definitively a book that any specialist and student should have.

There are so many pluses to this outstanding picturebook! I believe it is Wallner's best (and I like all of her books)! French language, American history, dogs, flight, etc....there is so much. A great piece of obscure American history! Every year this is one of my second graders' favorites!

A "must read" for beginner beekeepers
Not too sexy, but has all the right stuff. This book is a timeless guide to modern-day beekeeping. The pictures are a little dated, and black-white, but the information is sound and professionally written. This book left me feeling well educated and confident. And at this price, it's a deal!
