Faith and the Big Picture
This is a fascinating book that offers stimulating nuggets of understanding of some of life's great questions. What I liked about it is how the author introduces key topics from his own viewpoint without asserting that it is the only possible interpretation. And it is refreshing that he does not get caught up in defending or proving the validity of each topic. In fact, in addition to Church history, teaching, revelation and logic, he uses an interesting criterion for evaluating whether Christianity is believable - that the story of Christianity has an aesthetic beauty; that it "hangs together beautifully."

I also enjoyed how the author incorporates other religious texts and beliefs from Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Judaism for comparison and contrast. This along with the historical perspective gives a "big picture" feel to the book. And yet the author makes it clear he is not going to do all the work for the reader. Each topic is only a jumping off point that stimulates the desire to read and contemplate more about the subject matter.

Part of the enjoyment of the book comes from Fr. Riches' ability to explain complicated concepts with clarity. This is obviously not easy for topics like original sin, Trinity, afterlife, free will, suffering, and love.

In fact for me it is the author's treatment of love that makes this book so special. He makes it very clear that the story of Christianity is a story of love. And this is certainly a message that is worth hearing again and again.

Wonderful! A Great book!
This is a wonderful book. The photos are beautiful and the text is wonderfully written. This book shows a side of dance and dancers that people do not often get to see. As a dancer, this is an inspirational book and as a dance lover this book shows you something amazing: a look inside the lives of dancers.

Terrific Beginning Photo Book
I recommend this book very highly. It's well written and explains the concepts of beginning photography using this system clearly and concisely. Having some, but not a lot of experience with photography, I was interested in finding an instructional book that would help me get started quickly, but also see good results. The concepts and processes detailed are also illustrated quite nicely with photos, some eye catching, some stunning. Having read it through I went to work applying what I had learned with great success! I think it would be just as effective for a total beginner. I'm very happy with it.

A beautiful and informative book
At first glance, this appears to be a coffee table volume and it could certainly be used for that purpose, but anyone interested in French literature, in anything French for that matter, will be caught by the beauty of this book and the information it imparts to the reader. It's a book one can (and will!) go back to again and again.

The Definitive Graphic Novel
I can proudly say this is the toast of my graphic novel collection. In fact, I think this book defines the term "graphic novel". In its 78 pages, it spins itself like a true novel, with rich characterizations and complex set-pieces. True, there are lots of dialogues and voice-overs, but they never drag the story down. The story I won't reveal, but it reminded me of the Sam Peckinpah film "The Wild Bunch" in that the main protagonists are a bunch of men( and one woman ) well past their prime who assemble for one last job. Only, the job here is eliminating a bunch of equally old Fascist mercenaries. The bottom line is: If you are an admirer of mature graphic novels, buy this book. If not, stick to "X-Men".

BONNARD THE MASTER OF COLOR
Having missed the 1998 NEW YORK exibition because i live 400 milles from the city, i could catch up with that book that i found well done. PIERRE BONNARD is one of the artist i admire the most. For those of you unfamiliar with him, i suggest you buy ANTOINE TERRASSE's book. It's not to expensive and it is worth it.His works often have a dreamlike atmosphere to them ,and his wife MARTHE has been represented in the bathtub many times.Among BONNARD's friends were the NATHANSON:THADEE the editor of the REVUE BLANCHE and his beautiful WIFE MISIA, who was fond of artists;VUILLARD was his lifelong friend, and PIERRE had a long correspondance with HENRI MATISSE. When they met, they used to compare eachother's works.

What a Push Presentation
This is one of the best Bordeaux presentation in recent years. The book really focuses on the excellent wines by today's standards, instead of following the 1855 Classification guidelines that really should have been updated a long time ago. Those beautiful pictures really help, too - it is easier for readers to remember when they know what the bottles look like! The brief descriptions of wine-making methodologies of these chateaux provide very useful information. A great book overall!
