Remarkably Informative Brief Book
This brief book describes the last days of the great Native American leader Tecumseh, the Shawnee chief whose vision was to unite his and other tribes in defense of much of what is now the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. He was both respected and feared by the westward moving settlers. General William Henry Harrison waged battle against Tecumseh and his Indian alliance, first in Indiana, and later in Candada during the War of 1812.

The Candadian author describes Tecumseh's defeat and death during the Battle of the Thames in the War of 1812. The book brings an insightful Canadian perspective of Tecumseh's role in the War of 1812. Although the book is written for adolescent readers, anyone with an interest in early 19th century American history will enjoy this book

Great photos
A great book for an overview of the great pieces that Delft made in the 17th and 18th century, with good and detailed descriptions. Beautiful pictures that looking stunning because of the large size of the book. A small section for used marks, but really worth while if you are interested in Dutch Delftware.

A good German in the skies of France
A very touching narrative about the German pilot, great admirer of Saint-Ex, who tried to save his life on July 31, 1944. The story finally puts an end to all the "suppositions" of the press, and gives us a plausible explanation of the demise of the great French writer.
The German illustrations are definitely an improvement on the ones published in the bilingual edition of Vermillon Press. A must reading for all those who think that war is a senseless enterprise. An outstanding demonstration of what faith and the belief in God can do to a warrior. Ian Cameron, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MIchigan.

An illuminating offer for macroeconomics scholars
This book by Agenor and Montiel has succeeded to a large extent in their objective of integrating macroeconomic theory with the issues of the less developed countries. Proves to be an useful book which could be a decent alternative to the various textbooks in macroeconomics which are divorced of the diverse features of the less developed countries. Indeed an asset for the subject and the researchers. Worth possessing. But the cost is a little bit unaffordable for those in the developing world

modest recent Boulez
Although quite slim, this set of interviews is modest in proportions, yet it's always fascinating to read Maitre Boulez and his thoughts on composition. His "Jalons"a series of lectures he gave at the College de France from 1980 to 1990 available only in French, still reamins the definitive place for Boulez's thoughts on creativity. But here he talks of his recent works, 'Sur Incises', 'Anthemes' in some detail,as well as his conducting experiences in Chicago, doing Mahler. Also references to early thoughts, indeterminacy, aleatoric gesturing, and John Cage. And Di Pietro is quite versed in fashionable intellectual trajectories as the pessimism of Jean Baudrillard who Boulez comments on. The only disappointment here is there wasn't more. I read this in one sitting, one single train ride, you may as well.

lovely theophanies!
Klossowski invents an entire theological vocabulary for voyeurism in this book. It is so wondrous, and so batty, that few will enter this book with the wherewithal to finish it.

Klossowski's work is founded on the problem of the image. In Old Testament texts the image is banned, but the new testament via Luther, re-sacralizes it.

Klossowski is in-between, struggling with the heavy weight placed on the image. He creates a kind of sacred pornography (his brother was the infamous child porn painter Balthus).

The taboo is sacred, breaking the taboo leads us into the divine. The logic of this text is that Acteon, a sinner, becomes sacred through being torn apart by his breaking of the taboo surrounding the perception of the image of Diana, goddess of shame. Actaeon's shamelessness leads to his own exposure, and subsequent dismantling at the paws of his hunds.

Ha ha.

It's better in French. There's a cushion beneath the words in his original tongue that isn't here in the rather matter of fact and rather worldly English.

The Women of Rome sketch is the foundation, I believe, for all of Foucault's studies of Sex in Antiquity. Klossowski was a genius. Foucault a colonizer, a settler, a ham-fisted twit, who had not one-tenth of Klossowski's brilliance, but was much better at putting in stakes with his name on them. Klossowski was there first, but only for his own curiosity and interest, rather than to colonize and capitalize, which was what Foucault had in mind.
