"Fighting for survival"
Jean Craighead George describes how wolves survive in the wild and what the wolf pack goes through to survive. This is a great book to learn about wolves and their actions and the relations they have with humans and other animals. I thought it was a little slow moving and it didn't keep my interest going very well. It dragged on about the wolves' lives and was very repetitive. There wasn't a lot of descriptive writing to keep the interest flowing. But learning about the wolves was interesting and I enjoyed that.

Julie's Wolf Pack
If you loved Julie of the Wolves and Julie you will love yet another sequel. Julie is not really involuved in this book , It focuses mainly on the wolves themselfs. I loved this book and I hope Jean Craighead George will continue the Julie and the Wolves trilogy!

Synopsis
This was an inspiring book that sometimes made me feel that I was in on the action! Jean C. G. really put to mind the feelings of the wolves in this book. I would surly recommend it to people with an interest in animals. But be sure to first read "Julie of the Wolves" as this book comes before "Julie's Wolf Pack."

A must-read for couples undergoing infertility treatment
Each chapter in this books tells the story of one couple and their struggle with infertility, and all are eventually successful. Dr. Zouves is clearly an exceptional doctor whose varied and sometimes poignant personal history is woven skillfully through the chapters. He clearly goes the extra mile for his patients, many of whom have been unsuccessfully battling infertility for many years before they meet him. I couldn't put the book down.

An open door into the mysteries of infertility
Reading "Expecting Miracles" is the next best thing to spending a day in the life of an extraordinary fertility clinic in San Francisco. Each chapter brings you one step closer to the remarkable patients and staff as you share their heartbreaks and joys in the elusive quest for parenthood. I actually felt my stomach contract and wince when I read the poignant stories of the heart-wrenching pain and unflagging hope the couples encountered on their long journey towards creating a baby. As Dr. Zouves elucidates the daunting medical technology employed in achieving fertility, gradually you realize infertility is like a complex board game with its own rules, protocol, strategies, and a certain element of chance. The personal stories of Dr. Zouves and the couples that were interviewed prove to be just as compelling as the medical techniques that helped them. Each story introduces you to a new and uncertain terrain, but there is comfort in making that journey with a knowledgeable and trustworthy guide, a man who knows how to recognize the helpful clues and signposts leading to fertility. By the end of the journey, you realize that Dr. Zouves is not just a highly-skilled physician, he is also a man who is acutely aware of what it means to be a human being and his deep reverence for life profoundly touches everyone he meets.

The best infertility book we¿ve ever read!
Expecting Miracles captures the physical, emotional and financial struggle of couples undergoing infertility. The book is outstanding! We couldn't put it down. We are a 'success' couple of Dr. Zouves-having struggled with infertility for over 7 ½ years. We have read numerous books on infertility-this is by far the best. The book captures Dr. Zouves' success in helping patients achieve a family. It also shows his compassion as a doctor and a human being. He is always honest with his patients and truly cares. The book explains various infertility diagnoses and treatments in easy to understand terms. It provides hope for couples that have given up on achieving a family. Dr. Zouves is a true miracle worker. Expecting Miracles is a must for anyone who has struggled with infertility, worked with infertility patients, knows of anyone undergoing infertility treatment or is struggling with infertility and has given up hope. We have recommended this book to both health care workers and friends.

Timeless sleuthing fun, an unknown (for now!) classic
Trixie Belden is a sleuth who is impatient, spunky, and hates to do housework - I love her! Not quite 30 years old, I have loved this little-known teen detective since I "discovered" her on my sister's bookshelf when I was 8 years old. Since that time, I have read and re-read these wonderful books for the last two decades. Kids, if you want to read a book that is funny, smart, and has some spooky mysteries, this is a great series for you. Parents, if you want your kids not only to READ, but LOVE to read, get them hooked on these books. I am an English teacher, and I will swear up and down that these books, with their spunky characters and engaging plots, are not only a joy to read, but are informative. My vocabulary increased by trying to keep up with Mart Belden, Trixie's older brother, and as a child I didn't realize it, but I learned a ton from reading these great books. A voracious reader who adores authors from Shakespeare to Agatha Christie, Harper Lee to Elizabeth Peters, I still pull these charming mysteries off my bookshelf to go back to Crabapple Farm to solve mysteries with Trixie and Honey.

I read them every year...
The Trixie Belden series, of which this book is the beginning, is something that I haul out every year and reread. I'm 48 years old--that's a lot of rereading, considering I read them the first time when I was 10! I still have my beat-up Whitman hardbacks of the first 6, with Mary Stevens' wonderful illustrations, and I guard them jealously! My daughter, who is grown now, read them with enjoyment, but the big surprise is that my son loved them even more than she did. Everyone who says that their daughters enjoy these books should introduce their sons to them--the male characters, Mart, Brian, and Jim, are great role-models and my son identified with them a great deal. My children and I all remember and quote parts of these books to each other from time to time. I learned a lot of vocabulary from them, and I think I developed my sense of humor directly from these books as well. I echo everyone here who has lamented the fact that they are out of print. Reissue them!

What a shame to let such a good series go out of print.
This book is a wonderful introduction to a great series of books for young girls. I read the first six when I was 10 years old, and I fell in love with Trixie and her friends. Those stories were written by Julie Campbell in the 1950's and republished in the 1960's. Kathryn Kenny took over with book seven in the late '60's. Readers will notice a change in Trixie's personality and in the focus of the stories. Kenny introduces more of the history of the Hudson River Valley, and includes more facts and less of the banter and teasing that made me so fond of the original books. However, the books which Kenny continued writing into the '70's and the '80's, which I bought for my daughter, are entertaining, if not quite as much fun as the original six. The Red Trailer Mystery, the sequal to the Secret of the Mansion, is also a must to read for anyone who wants to get the full story of how Jim came to be Honey's adopted brother, The Gatehouse Mystery explains the formation of the Bob White club, The Mysterious Visitor chronicles the advent of Diana Lynch into the group. Book five, The Mystery Off Glen Road is a personal favorite of mine, an absolutely hilarious book telling of Trixie's attempts to become a 'lady', not to impress Jim, but for such convoluted reasons that she has her entire family in an uproar. I hope that like the Nancy Drew mysteries, some publisher who knows a good thing when he sees it, will update the Trixie Belden books and republish them for the next generation. I would hate to see this series that has brought so much pleasure and happiness to so many girls be lost forever.

Loved it sooooooooooo much
I was trying to think of the highest compliment I could pay a piece of fiction, and here it is: this book is making me think about the way I live my own life -- that is, my decision to stay in the closet at work, to smile or laugh when someone says a gay "joke," etc. I had never heard of this book before stumbling across it on Amazon recently. That's a shame, because it belongs up there with "The Best Little Boy in the World" and other important coming-out stories. I wish so much that I had read this book when I was 14, I think my life would be a lot different now. I admire the fact that Todd Brown crafted a likable, human gay teenager, without falling into the trap of making him a deviant ("Mysterious Skin") or a too-beautiful-for-this-world martyr ("Dream Boy"). There aren't many novels about which I would say this, but Todd Brown: Write a sequel!!

One of the Best Books I've Ever Read!
This is one of the few books I've ever read that had the perfect mix of good prose, thoughtfulness, and fun. It gives off a special type of suspense, powered by the continuous diary format, that keeps you from closing the book; you can't wait until you see what's going to happen next! There are tons of enjoyable and unusual surprises, as well as the interwoven subplots dealing with family, religion, school, romance (fake vs. real), and even some adventure that makes this book even more undeniable. I honestly don't think I'll ever read another book that can top off what Brown wrote. I even threw giggles out of pure enjoyment for it. "Entries from a Hot Pink Notebook" is a true change from meticulous and dragging prose that occurs in many other stories and should definately be both a classic and a must for any reader. I hope there's a sequel to Ben Smith's Hot Pink Notebook. It's THAT good!

Other books may be a real let down after reading this!
This was my first gay novel, as I recently just came out to myself and friends at the age of 20. When i began reading this book I felt like I was the only person in the world who grew up the way I did, meaning confused by my feelings towards other boys my age and dealing with a similiar family as Ben's (main character). Once i began reading this novel I couldn't put it down. I was intrigued by Ben's feelings and how much alike we both felt. I really identified with this novel and would recommend it to anyone. I even referred it to many of my straight friends, a few of which know i am gay. Once you read this coming of age novel about the confusing years of learning one's true self, you may feel let down by other books of the same topic. I applaude Todd Brown, and I hope for his sake that he can write another novel of equal intensity. I will be looking forward to reading more of his work. Buy this book!

Trixie Belden and the Red Trailer Mystery
It has been years since I was fortunate enough to be a young reader who was completely enthralled with the adventures of Trixie and her friends. I am now a social worker working in an elementary school and am constantly looking for books that will capture the kids attention as these did mine so long ago. I am searching for any and all books I can get about this gang. I have a young girl with red-hair who is so horrified by it she can not believe that anyone with that hair could have many friends or have any fun. I would love for her to read these. Please contact me if you have the series or any to sell. These should be back in publication so they'd be readily available to our youth (and those of us adults who still yearn to read Trixie!)

Trixie Belden - a 13 year-old Nancy Drew
I first discovered Trixie Belden when I was 11. Now, 27 years later, I still love these books as a great friend from childhood. All of my shool girl friends read about Trixie, the Bob-Whites of the Glen and all of their adventures. I wish these books were still available in print or even in the public libraries so every girl or boy could read and fall in love with them and their adventures like I did. These books are a great stepping stone into the Nancy Drew series or even as companion books. They open the eyes of the reader and make them think as they see the mystery unfold. Plus, the BWG's make a great set of friends for anyone to have.

What do you mean, they're not in print?!?!?!
I read my first Trixie Belden book when I was 9 (37 years ago!) and I fell in love with the Belden clan, their farm, Honey, and Jim, and the horses! I can't believe this series is no longer in print. The kids are so normal, the dialogue natural, and the mysteries engrossing. When I read about Trixie, I became a "Bob-White" - these were my friends. Several years ago, I found my old collection in a box and re-read them. My husband thought I was nuts, but I had a ball remembering the plots and characters and feeling like a kid again---solving mysteries with Trixie!

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor
I discovered this book 31 years ago, for my daughter and it is still loved by all the family. The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story. We still read it to all the young children on Christmas Eve and for adults we read the story and pass a grab bag gift every time the word THE is mentioned. It would not be Christmas without this book. It is magical.

A beautiful edition, to give as a gift
We have an inexpensive paperback version (see our reviews) of this classic poem, and we said that's enough for us. That was before we looked through this beautifully illustrated (by Bruce Whatley) edition of The Night Before Christmas.

The lyrics are the same, from book to book, but the fanciful illustrations in this one are enough to engage adults and children as they read this book together.

The perfect gift for any family whose Christmas tradition includes reading this classic!

A Happy Christmas to All
This beautiful book was in my family as a hard cover edition for many years and was a Christmas Eve tradition for my four sons when they were growing up. It's poor battered body disappeared some time after the last of my little ones went off into the adult world. I am so delighted to see it back again, though this time as a nicely affordable soft cover. Clement C. Moore's enchanting story poem already provides an atmosphere filled with warmth and joyful expectation and with the addition of Tasha Tudor's quaint, nostalgic water-colors from an antique New England the Christmas magic is complete!
The winter landscapes fill our senses and Tasha's own gray tabby cat and Welsh Corgi welcome us into this charming world.
Tasha's Santa that you will meet in this book has been portrayed as the poem describes him...a right jolly old elf. He's not that much larger than the corgi and his team really consists of eight "tiny" reindeer. His pointy ears and his Eskimo mukluks add to the delightful ambiance of the book. He dances with the toys and with the happy animals and we can truly believe it will be a happy Christmas for all.
I hope this book becomes a Christmas Eve tradition for many, many more families.

Perceptive and accurate
I graduated from West Point in 1991, some twenty five years after the class chronicled in the book. Atkinson's description of life at the Academy is dead accurate (amazing how few changes twenty five years have delivered) and one assumes that his perceptive reporter's eye extends to the combat scenes in Vietnam. Therefore, for me this book is one of the definitive accounts of the Vietnam era. In that my generation has to rely on second-hand accounts to understand this era, The Long Gray Line is an authoritative guide.

Strongly recommended for anyone interested in West Point, the Vietnam War, or the societal upheaval which followed the war's conclusion.

OUTSTANDING MODERN AMERICAN HISTORY!
This book was written about a lot more than just the West Point Class of 1966. This book was written about the sweeping social and political changes that took place from 1962 to 1971. The story begins in the year that the Class of '66 reported to West Point as plebes for Beast Barracks, and carries the reader through 1971, the year that the Class of '66 became eligible to resign their commissions, and beyond. This time period straddled some of the most timultuous years in US history.

Well written and very readable, yet not a "lightweight" paperback.

A great, truly inspiring story. Also, this book is a perfect complement to "The Nightingale's Song" by Robert Timberg, which chronicles the lives of five Vietnam-era Annapolis graduates, Sen. John McCain, John Poindexter, Robert McFarlain, Oliver North, and James Webb. Both are great books! Read them!

Simply Outstanding
To anyone who lives outside of the United States, the term West Point is synomous with military leadership. But how, someome is made into a West Pointer is always being a little engimatic. Rick Atkinson's brilliant book tells us what is like to attend West Point and also the leadership of men in combat and the pressures of command. His depiction of the West West Point years of the Class of 66 are great and full of stories that you would not read elsewhere. The Class of 1966 suffered West Point's greatest number of casualties in Vietnam and that section of the book is almost impossible to put down. The fight on Hill 875 is documented with great care and gives some idea of what a waste war is. The period after the war is also documented with great sensitivity especially the incident at the DMZ in August 1976 when Captain Art Bonifas was murdered by vengeful North Korean guards.

My only complaint with the new edition is that it could have gone into more detail about what class members have done since the original publication as some of these men were trusted with some of the US major military commands.

I've read "Julie of the Wolves" and "Julie"
Hi! I've read Julie of the Wolves and Julie and I think they are the best books EVER! I've only read three of George's books: My Side of the Mountain(HIGHLY recomended), Julie of the Wolves(Excellent!), and Julie(Probably the best of all three!), but they are all cool, exciting and suberb. Now about Julie: A great book, very descriptive, and extremly captivartion. I'm ten years old. I took me three days to read, and I absolutley ADORED it! Miyax Kapugen Julie Edwards, a young eskimo girl(14) who has lived on the arctic tundra with her adoptive wolf pack for almost a year, must now return to her father. Her father has changed very mush from when she knew him: He had adopted the ways of the 49 southern states, had started using technology, and had married a gussak(American) wife. Julie also meets Peter, and Siberian eskimo who loves her. She thinks of school before him, but decides to marry him when she gets grown up. Julies wolf pack starts killing her fathr's oxen(there are no caribou to hunt) and her father attemps to kill them. CCan Julie save her wolf pack? Will her father ever re-accept the wolves? Read this AWSOME booi to find out!

"Julie" is a great book why not go out and GRAB it.
"Julie" is a book about a young woman called Julie, who returns home from her life on the Tundra, with a pack of wolves as her family. Her father Kapugen has married an American woman named Ellen, who is pregnant. Julie arrives home to normal family life. She feels that she could accept the family life, if she hadn't known that her father had killed her wolf father. Julie can speak beautiful English, but she will not talk to Ellen, until she is sure she can accept Ellen into her life. Julie starts talking to Ellen, when they are in an ice shelter helping a Musk Oxen, give birth to her calf. Julie realises that Ellen is no longer an intruder in her family, and welcomes her.

Julie goes through many difficult situations in this story, like when she comes face to face with a wild bear. I enjoyed this book very much because, you have the feeling you were part of this book, and also the story. I thought Jean Craighead George made things very descriptive, like the ice on the Tundra, the soft fuzzy fur of the wolf pup, and the scurrying ground squirrels. This book shows the power between a father and his daughter, they love each other so much that they can read each others minds'.

This novel is for people who like a book with happiness, a bit of sadness, and the smallest bit of romance. It is also a book that has a lot of adventure.

I loved this book
This is a great book. But I liked the last one the best. I think Jean Craighead George, and Wendell Minor, are truly fantastic! If you haven't read this, and the other two books, you haven't experienced a true, good book. Jean captures the true wolf, the wolf society, and other very interesting facts of a wolf's life. Like, I never knew that wolves have leaders, or Alpha's. I never knew that if a "baby-sitter" wolf, narrowed their eyes, showed their teeth, and lifted their ears straight, a wolf pup would sit down. I never knew that if a hungry pup nudged a adult wolf that has just eaten on the muzzle, the adult wolf will regurgatate the food, or, throw up the half digested meat. I never knew wolves tell each other who's the boss by mouthing a wolf's nose. I never knew if a wolf is larger or taller than other wolf, than it has a good chance for being an alpha or beta. Untill I read Jean Craighead George's book, "Julie of the Wolves", "Julie", and "Julie's Wolf Pack".
