How to photograph works of art
Published in Unknown Binding by AASLH Press ()
Author: Sheldan Collins

All you need to get started
If you want to photograph any sort of artwork, this volume will get you going. All aspects of the task are considered, and the text is lucid, with plentiful illustrations. Various sorts of film, lighting, camera gear, filtration, testing, and lighting technique are covered. These things are not just catalogued, but evaluated by the author based on his years of experience.

Valuable technical detail required for art photography
As a photographer of works of art the indepth technical detail in this book is a necessity for me. Of 4 books I own on this topic, this is the most comprehensive. It has become my 'bible'. I am recommending it to our local Art Guild members who are serious about the need for accurate color slides of their works.

Very Impressed
I have read many books about aura but none can compare to this book. Other books provide limited information about what aura is. This author is very knowledgeable in this area. She is trully spiritual. If you really want to understand what aura is, you should really read this book. Though many people can see colors, they cannot really understand them. They can only give you a general meaning of what each color means.

Great work from a talented woman
A must for reading for those who need a listing of various colors and their meaning. Please try to find this book if you can. Many good chapters for everyone who either currently sees auras or who wants to see them. Local girl, done well. Thank you Judith for your book.

Japan-Think, Ameri-Think: An Irreverent Guide to Understanding the Cultural Difference Between Us
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (1992)
Authors: Robert J. Collins and Jane Walmsley
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Easy read VERY informative
The depth makes it more of a primer than a heavy duty text, but it is so very good at that job that I would recommend it as a basic read for ANYONE involved in dealing with Japanese corporations or relationships. It tells you frankly and easily just what background gives the Japanese view on life. And understanding where someone "comes from" makes so many things easier to understand.

I have passed this book to countless people I know it's readable quickly and yet you'll use it as a reference for years to come.

Extremely recommended!

Funny and very informative
This book was great. It was one of the funniest books I've ever read and it gave a lot of important information. It really helps you *understand* the Japanese, as opposed to just hearing some information. It gives you examples of contrast between Americans and the Japanese. Anyone interested in Japan should read this book. Absoloutely beautiful.

The Boy Genius is Terry Collins!
I tell you, Mr. Terry Collins has done it again. This series is GREAT! I was a little scared at first because i thought it would be just another childrens book (which means no plot and just slightly nice looking pictures). This book was completely the opposite! I am proud to say i am 46 year old man and i enjoyed this book very much! i know that some my say i am simple minded but heck, what do they know! this book ROCKS!!! END OF STORY!

Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key
Jettie Stec

If you are looking for a great book, read Joey Pigza Swallowed The Key by Jack Gantos. To begin, the book shows a lot of sad things that happened to Joey. For example, when his grandma tells him to get into the refrigerator because he has a problem and he can't sit still. She also told him that his mom won't come back because he won't sit still in front of the window and not talk. She says she passes by every night and doesn't want to come back because she sees that he is not sitting still. Next, the book is very funny also. When he has to go to this special Education school because he as running with scissors in his class room at school. He tripped and fell and cut off this little girl nose, He swallowed a key, and makes fun of this guy because his name is Edd and people call him Special Edd. Last, the book shows feeling. For instance, on the first day of special Ed. School Joey was very excited because he thought it would be very fun, but it turned out that he had to do work and everyone else got to play. Then he was sad because he thought he would never get to go back to his school ever again. Last he is very happy because he gets to go back to school, but he has to stay in the special class at school but he is still happy. Now you can see because it shows a lot of feeling Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key is a great book.

I can knit
Bought this book before xmas. I couldn't fool my mom... but my peers are impressed with my first round of projects generated from what i learned in this book. I'm unconventional so I started with wristbands and a choker. I've already made them for friends. This is a great book for getting started even if you want to knit traditional garments.

Enlarged, clear pictures, clear definitions.
The pictures are enlarged, the views are easy to see and this book is packed with good information on common problems. Let's see if I can get the cables right, now??

L'effet pervers : le naufrage des démocraties
Published in Unknown Binding by Editions A. Carriáere : Diffusion Hachette ()
Author: Michel Collin
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

I love you because the whole universe conspired for me...
This is an extraordinary story about optimism, hope, courage and perseverance. It is about finding out what is our 'mission' in life, about destiny and following our dreams - whenever one wishes something, the whole universe conspires to its realisation. Everything is possible as long as we really want this to happen.

At the first level, the story seems to be very simple, and as Coelho himself said it, "simple things are the most valuable and only wise people appreciate them". But it is by far a very complex story with very deep meanings.
One of the things suggested here is that people who don't dare to follow their dreams, their 'Personal Myth', will have a superficial and empty life.

It is also about being courageous to meet your destiny, to dare making your dreams come true and following the road that has been made for them, and find God while searching for their destiny and their mission on earth.

Another important issue in this book is finding your soul-mate and love - the core of existence and creation. When we are in love we try to improve ourselves: "I love you because the whole universe conspired for me to come close to you."

I think this book can be enjoyed by everybody, because we all find ourselves in Santiago, the main character of the book - we all have dreams, desires and perhaps some us dont have the necessary courage to follow our dreams - and courage is the language that helps you most in understanding the world.

I recommend this book to everybody who thinks that life is still beautiful and even to those who believe the opposite - Im sure it will make you change your minds.

A trip worth taking
L'alchimiste... a wonderful book that brings you along for a magnificient trip through the desert to find a tresor.

The treip is important and only in the end will you find what you were seeking.

Full of lessons, the story reads easily and brings the reader to a point where he/she will reevaluate the important things in his life.

A book not unlike "Le Petit Prince"

Landscaping Herbs

'Landscaping Herbs' Author Handles Her Herbs!
'LANDSCAPING HERBS' has color photos taken by the author. Detailed and unique sketches drawn by a professor at the University of Illinois. Extensive descriptions of over one thousand herbs. Even accurate and pertinant maps, tables, and listings. All of these strands together braid into one IMPRESSIVE reference guide. After reading 'LANDSCAPING HERBS', the only conclusion that the reader can make is that the author really knows her stuff. Enough said.

Excellent Book on the care and feeding of ornamental herbs.
I was impressed with the breath and depth of the author's knowledge of herbal botony. The book was easy to understant and a pleasure to read. The book was also asthetically pleasing and a good book to refer to again and again. I liked it!

Legal Muscle: Anabolics in America
Published in Paperback by Legal Muscle Publishing Inc. (01 December, 2002)
Author: Rick Collins
Amazon base price: $49.95

DON'T READ THIS BOOK
...unless you can handle the truth! This is the ground-breaking, pioneer, authoritative treatise on anabolic-androgenic steroids and the law in the United States.

Thoroughly researched and well-written in laymans' terms, this book is written by accomplished former prosecutor and current New York criminal defense attorney and prolific author, Richard (Rick) D. Collins, Esq. Rick is an expert in the handling of controlled substance cases, particularly those involving anabolics, and has carved-out a niche for himself where he has advised counsel on cases in federal and state courts from New York to California and nearly everywhere in between. In addition to being a courtroom virtuoso, Rick writes extensively on the subject.

Rick Collins, attorney, accomplished bodybuilder and actor who has appeared on HBO TVs mob-hit THE SOPRANOS, is a name known to readers of Muscular Development magazine where he in on the advisory board and also pens a monthly column discussing anabolics and legal issues. From reading LEGAL MUSCLE, it's obvious that Rick is passionate about his work and has strong feelings against the scheduling and present penalties for the mere possession of anabolic-androgenic steroids by the recreational bodybuilder. Unbeknownst to many, myself included, LEGAL MUSCLE blows the lid off the real reason why anabolics have been demonized. If you think it's the alleged health consequences, think again. Moreover, contrary to what the mainstream media would have one believe, teens and professional athletes are NOT the ones who are being prosecuted. Further, Rick dedicates well-documented, end-noted chapters to the pharmacology and physiological effects and most importantly, debunks the hyperbolic myths of the asserted pernicious health effects. In and of themselves, these chapters could compose a handbook which is an excellent read for parents, teachers and athletic coaches at all levels.

After the introductory chapters, which provide background for the neophyte to anabolics, Rick delves in the heart of the matter including: federal statutes (the laws of the fifty states, DC and Puerto are all reproduced in part in one of the appendices), federal sentencing guidelines, and an overview of how a case proceeds through the criminal judice system. Additional chapters discuss legal theories such as reasonable suspicion, probable cause and proof beyond a reasonable doubt; all of which dovetails into searches, warrants and the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution. More specifically, based upon the multitude of steroid cases Rick has handled over the years, there are chapters discussing the most common ways in which law enforcement develop their investigations and ultimately make an arrest through confidential informants, controlled deliveries, cyber-sleuthing, and interrogation. The quality of these chapters is that the the lessons learned are not unique to anabolics, but rather, are translatable into virtually any other criminal matter on the docket, ie., assault, DWI, possession of narcotics, etc.

While the book can certainly be read cover to cover, it can also serve as an authoritative treatise. One can simply open the book to a section or chapter and refer to that given issue. There are helpful charts and a first-of-its-kind glossary of anabolics and ancillary medications which includes their legal status.

I have added a copy of LEGAL MUSCLE to my home library. Considering the amount of time and knowledge that Rick has dedicated to LEGAL MUSCLE, it's an excellent investment.

What the government won't tell you about steroids!
This books is excellent reading. Thinking about steroids or know someone who is? Before you make a decision know your rights under the law. More importantly, know the TRUTH about steroid use by average everyday citizens. Author Rick Collins blows the lid off the media image of illegal steroid use and explains in clear and concise language what your legal rights are under Federal and State statutes. Don't make a move without knowing the law and how to protect yourself. Highly recommended. I can't say enough good about this book!
