This is where the healing begins.
I hated this book at first. It was asking me to do the impossible, forgive past hurts. As I worked through the book, my heart began to soften up. This was a very useful tool in my recovery. I cannot say I ever enjoyed the book, but it served it's purpose of helping me sort out my anger and unforgiveness.

OCD in Children and Adolescents: A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment Manual

Used price: $30.00

A must have treatment manual
John March is author of one of the best treatment manuals I have ever laid my eyes on. He and Mulle have laid out in very clear fashion what steps to follow in treating OCD in a child or adolescent. They add tips on what to do when problems arise and include gems of clinical knowledge that make this a must have resource for anyone treating OCD. While the book is about treating children and adolescents I have found it helped me think more clearly about doing the same type of treatment with adults. This book is directed toward the therapists who may not have a backround in cognitive behavioral treatment and explains some concepts that may seem strange to those from other backrounds. It is not written for parents but I have recomended it to them since there is little else around that explains things any where near as clearly.

Interesting and Informative Book
I have been to Romania and know something about the plight of the Romanian street children. This book's "been there, done that" account of living on the street was very interesting. It helped fill in the gaps in my understanding of the problem. It clearly explains why the street children exist, about their awful living conditions, about successes and failures working with street children, and more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn more about Romanian street children.

Once A Man Twice A Child: Part I Tomorrow Never Knows

Totally Changed My Perspective on Life and John Lennon
Once A Man Twice A Child has completely changed my perspective and understanding John Lennon's death. Before reading this book I did not know much about Lennon or The Beatles other than the songs they recorded. I live in the same town as the author and was lucky enough to meet Dan Alice. He handed me a copy of his manuscript. The first thing that captivated me about this book was the strange image on the cover; A man dressed as a walrus with outstretched arms similar to Jesus on the cross. It seemed kind of taboo to me. Later I discovered that this Walrus was also found on the cover of The Magical Mystery Tour Album. The walrus is also the Scandinavian symbol for death. I found it even stranger that the song I Am The Walrus from this Magical Mystery Tour Album was released exactly 13 years to the day before Lennon was murdered. Was this album and walrus a sign predicting Lennon's death or just a coincidence? When the novel suggested this I thought that this was insane. Personally I am very skeptical when it comes to coincidences, prophecies, astrology, spirits, etc. However, after reading this novel and the hundreds of strange coincidences and facts interpreted through numerological and astrological interpretation I began to think twice. I became so obsessed that I looked up as many facts the book brings up and every one of them is completely true! People, places, dates, events, ect., all 100% true. It made me wonder if the spirit of John Lennon's deceased best friend Stuart Sutcliffe was still among us and if Lennon's death was written into the stars. It has really spooked me out especially since so much evidenced has been overturned in this novel and examined from a perspective no one has ever taken before. I love this novel and give it two thumbs up. I would recommend it to anyone especially if you are a Beatle or Lennon fan.

Easy to read, practical with great strategies that work!
This book really saved my sanity. I have three kids of various ages and this gave me some great tips to deal with what Dr.Mike calls the "new planet mentality" of the kids today. Whether it's attidue problems, fighting to get them up or to get them to bed or the ever constant battle of homework, Dr. Mike's strategies really work. I have seen Dr. Mike in his workshops and his writing style is like his speaking style. He's really funny, but has some real meat that we all need to hear about. This book and his others are what everybody needs to read. If you get the chance to meet this guy at a talk around the country, don't miss him! If your area carries it, make sure that you watch his PBS show "In Search of Character" and you will see what I mean.

Focus on the Foundation of the Family
"Parents' Guide" offers parents an excellent resource for developing the spiritual life of our children. As a pastor and father, I'm glad for Trent & Osborne's research. If the foundation of a healthy society is found in the home, then the foundation of a healthy home is found in our spiritual life with God through Jesus Christ. For another book on Christian spiritual parenting, look into the recently published book, THE FAMILY CLOISTER: BENEDICTINE WISDOM FOR THE HOME, by David Robinson (New York, NY: Crossroad, 2000; 192pp., trade paperback). God bless you in your holy calling of raising spiritual children!

Invaluable resource written especially for the COTA.
As a student of the author, I may be a little prejudicial, but I think this book is a wonderful pediatric sourcebook. It is written in an easy to follow manner, and defines the roles between an OTR and the COTA. It offers chapters on the different systems children may be treated in, principles of development, common diagnoses, and treatment approaches. The case studies, and suggested activities help to absorb the information given in the chapters and apply it to a clinical setting. An invaluable resource for the future COTA!!
