Inspirational
This book was great! I recommend it to everyone.

On a personal note, I would like to Email the author. Could you possibly provide me with the address?

High handicap senior
This is more than a golf story; non golfers will enjoy, too, even if they don't understand some of the golf lingo. Golfers, of course, will REALLY appreciate the course trials and Mark Levin's emotions. It also provokes some generational reflections and emotions. Read it and find out!

A golfing experience to be shared
Share Author Zegar's dream of when the impossible becomes a reality. A golf book that uplifts and reacquaints us with the spiritual side of our playing. Marc, thanks for the great game.

Patient or Pretender: Inside the Strange World of Factitious Disorders
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (1995)

Amazon base price: $19.95
Collectible price: $75.00

Excellent reading and very informative
I would recommend this book to anyone that is trying to understand the strange world of Munchausen. Excellent reviews of cases of this syndrome. Easy to understand and read and keeps the reader interested. You will come away with a better understanding of why these people live in the bizarre world of Munchausen syndrome.

A compassionate book about intriguing psychiatric disorders.
Ford and Feldman have written a fascinating exploration of the complexities of factitious disorders, and they display a degree of clinical intuition seldom seen in today's world of high-tech medicine. Rich in anecdotes, this book holds the reader in thrall from the first page. Who could forget Jenny....or Abby...or the Gasoline Injector! Yet make no mistake: the authors do not use tabloid tactics to ensnare the reader. Instead, they teach us a great deal about psychic pain.

On behalf of those who feign illness, they reveal some of the reasons behind the desperate bids for attention. They also expose the frightening, criminal aspects of Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy, a disease often misinterpreted by medical practitioners.

This collaboration reminds this reader of the writings of psychiatrist and best-selling author, Dr. M. Scott Peck. Like Peck, the authors have the humility to admit their mistakes, and at times, they share a bit of sly humor with us. They never lose sight of the dignity of their patients, which affirms their connection to us all.

A book such as this is a remarkable find, as it is written with both scientific and literary expertise. The empathy of these academicians simply cannot be taught in medical school. You would not want to miss this one.

This book could save some lives. Read it.
I'm a nurse, and I'm here to tell you that a lot of us wouldn't have jobs if it weren't for factitious disorders. Anybody who has worked in a hospital can tell you that this is a huge problem. People regress when they don't get praise and love as children. They will do anything to go to the womblike environment of a hospital. I've known patients who shot themselves, overdosed, carved their skin to shreds-you name it. What's even scarier are the patients who can keep a "con" going for years, reading about medical problems and sometimes killing themselves trying to mimic those problems. It gets worse. I had a teen-aged patient whose mother was giving her "secret injections" while she was on our unit. We had no idea. Mom was there the whole time-wouldn't leave until we ran her off, then she signed the kid out AMA. Fortunately, the girl's friends took her to the ER a few weeks later, and guess what? She was almost dead from arsenic poisoning. How many times does this happen, and how many people get away with it? It's called Munchausen-Syndrome-By-Proxy. I'd been in nursing for years before I first heard about it. I hope that's not the case with today's new nursing graduates.

This is the best book I've ever read about MSBP, You don't have to be in the medical field to appreciate it. You never know when you might need this information.

A must read
This book changed how I approach product design. It focuses on designs that will succeed in the market place. It's not a book specifically on designing for a market, but how a set of systems built on a common platform will allow you to compete in multiple markets at the same time. Meyer and Lehnerd combine marketing, manufacturing, design and strategy. It's loaded with great examples from companies like Black and Decker and EMC. Also impressive is that the authors show how apply platform principles in software and service markets as well as traditional manufacturing

Position a product line for sustained success.
This terrific book explains how to plan and execute a product platform which leads to a series of continuously improved products. We have used the system at our company to plan and evolve both software products and services. We have been able to spin out many different services that seem very different, but were really variations on the basic platform we had previously built. We can provide tailored solutions for clients with less than 10% of the effort that went into the initial platform development.

A new follow up to the Power of Product Platforms coming....
As the co-author of this book, using this text in teaching at 3 universities, Northeastern, Boston Univ. and U. Of Penn. in their graduate programs, I have come to realize the power of this book's teachings, its rules and tools for robust product platforms and derivative products, goods and services as well as software platforms.

We are now in the 4th edition and have published it in Spanish with a Barcelona publisher.

Companies that Marc Meyer and I consult with have found it extremely informative and useful.

Our follow up book will be an extension of this book, filled with rich examples of applications to goods, services, software and processes.

Included will be workshop materials for easy application to the users' unique products and business services.

Keep looking.......

The kids' book that YOU will enjoy reading!
I bought this book because Jim Trelease recommends it. Jim's Read Aloud Handbook is the definitive work on how reading to children is the #1 factor in increasing intelligence. Read-Aloud Rhymes is fun, funny and I have never tired of reading its many poems over the past two years to my kids (4 year old boy, twin 2 year old girls). It is my favorite and theirs as well.

If your little ones are driving you nuts and you feel like you're stuck on an island (like they're starring in Lord of the Flies), this book could save your life! Seriously, it is the best book for children in print today. I spend tons of time and the library and this book is one you must take home to keep.

Toddler Favorite
I purchased this for my son over a year ago, he is 3 now & this is one of his favorite books. Its a family treasure & every child should have one in their collection.

Great book for kids AND PARENTS
The short, unique rhymes are so fun to read. They are charming and sweet for little ones and parents and so much nicer than those awful Mother Goose nursery rhymes. They're organized by subject matter, so there's a section on rain, going to bed, the garden, etc. The illustrations by Marc Brown alone are worth the price. It's a pleasure to read so many funny, uplifting rhymes...not plotless tradgedies like humpty, dumpty and Jack and Jill. I look forward to reading to my baby as much as he does.

Remarkable Recovery, What Extraordinary Healins Tell Us Abou
This book came highly recommended to me because my husband has Multiple Sclerosis. I was instantly captured by the title alone. As I dove deeper, I realized these "remarkable recovery" case studies could be my husband. I gained a great deal of insight about beliefs I already had, yet was struggling to fit them into our lives to help my husband heal, to help him get better, and hopefully some day, fully recover.

This book gave it all to me. It is well written and full of humor, which I found very enlightening when you are dealing with disease and death. I strongly & highly recommend this book to anyone who knows or cares about someone with any severe illness or life threatening disease.

I just finished this absolutely wonderful book & am buying 2 more copies for friends. I suggest you read it and do the same.

Hope
Here is a book to come back to time and time again... as I have. In the midst of my own cancer journey, I have made it a point to read and re-read portions of this book. In the darkness and uncertainty that accompanies Cancer, this book gave me hope. A guiding light, on a sometimes starless night. My dog-eared copy of this book will forever maintain a cherished place on my bookshelf.

inspiring and encouraging
I read this book before ordering it for a friend who has cancer, because I wanted to make sure it was the kind of information she needed. I thought it was absolutely wonderful. I'm a hard-science kind of person, not skeptical at all about the mind-body connection but definitely needing proof, and I got it here. I can't imagine a person with cancer--especially one with a poor prognosis but who's determined to do her or his best to get well again--who wouldn't feel better after reading this book.

Great fantasy game!
I have never been into fantasy or D&D type games but I was hooked on Shalkith the instant I tried it. The game's beginning level is great to get one's feet wet and as the game progresses it offers enough complexity to keep any level gamer interested. The game manual is more than just instruction, it also uses stories to create a fantastic mythology for the game.

At last - Great Adventure and Good Writing!
If you are tired of games which are so poorly written it's painful, be advised that Shalkith is here to break the mold. A great game with great writing and illustrations too -- an unbeatable combination you don't want to miss.

Hey, spread the word!
Check this one out and spread the word to all your friends. It's a really fun game that actually has a thorough and easy-to-read manual, so everyone will pick it up quickly! Its got the flexibility to let you develop a style of your own and use your brain, which makes it a nice challenge too :) And come on now who doesn't like playing with dragons?????
It's not too often that a really good new game pops up, so I wanna get other people addicted so this one actually sticks around :) Try it out and then tell other people how fun it is!

The Poetry Reader's Toolkit: A Guide to Reading and Understanding Poetry

Author: Marc Polonsky

Used price: $18.95

Great Guidebook for Beginners!.......
...........if you are like me, and are interested in learning to truly appreciate poetry like you never have before, I highly recommend this book. Polonsky not only introduces the reader to some beautiful and loved poetry, he uses each poem as an example to illustrate a concept in understanding poetry. This, for me, shed a beautiful new light on poems I had previously enjoyed, and also opened my eyes to some poems that I had previously not known or simply underappreciated. For example, "The Waking" by Theodore Roethke plays over and over like music in my mind now. I had never really heard its rhythm before.

Polonsky shows us how poetry conveys emotion, introduces us to different uses of imagery, explores sound in poetry, covers metaphors and similes and their use, explains different verse forms, line breaks, synesthesia, and numerous other poetic devices. Additionally, he encourages us, as "students" of poetry, to seek out poems that demonstrate each concept and advises that we keep a journal of our discoveries. This book is a real gem that I truly believe I have derived a greater appreciation of poetry from!

A man on a mission
If the world made sense, this fine book would be found not only in every high school and college library, but in a lot of family homes as well, right next to the child-rearing guides and home fix-it guides. For in a world that made sense, a lot more people would grasp the transformative power of poetry and be passing on what they knew about it to their kids - and if they didn't know much, they could just pass on this book. Neither sentimental nor haughty about his subject, Polonsky manages to analyze both famous and lesser known poems, sometimes in great detail, without killing them off. This is a rare capacity that depends equally on his common sense, practiced insight, and clear, straight-ahead writing style.

Available in both student and instructor editions, this "toolkit" covers all the necessary fundamentals, and it's significant that "Emotions" is the first one explored - well before the discussions of sound, symbolism, verse forms and other technical aspects are taken up. That's because Polonsky has his ducks in a row and his heart in the right place, and that's what infuses the laudable competence of this manual with an irrepressible spirit. "I think poetry is just about as essential as air," Polonsky declares. "I believe that much of the violence and psychological illness and unease in our society is probably due to poetry deprivation."

This is obviously not your high school English teacher talking, but a man on a passionate mission. If this book gets spread around like it should, the world just might start making sense.

Curious about poetry? Read this and you'll get hooked!
I was hungry to learn poetry. It always seemed a puzzle that was never quite solved. So, for Christmas, I hinted for a book about how to read/write poetry. Santa read my list (thanks sis) and got my wish:) This book was a joy to read. It unlocked many of mysteries of poetry for me and gave me a wonderful preparation before I dived head first into this mysterious pool of poetry.

Great if you need the music, but not necessarily the words..
This book is definitely a must-have if you require the notes to play the tunes. However, if you're only trying to figure out the lyrics, the best way to go about this is to play the "South Park: BLU DVD" with the English subtitles on (or captions on if you have it on VHS). Then you can sing along with the movie! Neat, huh? Unfortunately, there's no 'bouncing ball' to follow when the kids do break into song, but hey, you can't have everything!

'Late

A Great Find for the Uncomplicated Musician
This score is accurate and thorough in its likeliness to the actual movie, although don't expect the pieces to sound nearly as full as they do with the full orchestral accompaniment of the album. The piano part is thin, but it is more than enough to accompany any singer (or yourself, if you like to sing while you play.) My favorite piece is "La Resistance (Medley)", which pieces together a number of different tunes. For the guitarists out there, each piece contains printed chords and tablature. I love playing through the score and have had great fun with it! I recommend it to any South Park fan/musician, or even anyone who's been wanting to know the full lyrics (but don't waste the music - invite a musician over!)

When you just HAVE to know the words to Mountain Town
Let's face it, when you first heard the soundtrack or saw the movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut ... you HAD to know the words. So I sat and meticulously wrote out what I thought were the words. So my question to Trey Parker & Marc Shaiman is ... WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?

This is a great book, especially for the musically inclined who may want to actually play the music to the best, most insane movie of all time. I don't play an instrument but I got hours of entertainment singing such classics as Uncle F*cka and It's Easy, Mkay!

And I'm thrilled to say I had the lyrics pretty much correct on all except the end of Mountain Town. But that's okay. I've got the words now. :)

Klingons at the best!
This is the ultimate Klingon book! It brilliantly weaves the tapestry of Star Trek's Klingon history, through its publication date in May of 1996. It is written both in English & Klingon. The photos are black & white. Each page contains a quote in both languages and a detailed explanation of the Klingon terminology. If you have not picked this up for your Star Trek collection, let me quote a Klingon phrase for you, "qoH vuvbe' SuS" ("The wind does not respect a fool"). If you can still find a copy of this, enjoy it.

irrestible
Astounding. This is one of the books a Klingon fan would love to read. Trust me, you'll be intrigued.

The Klingon proverbs and their meanings in the book will help us understand Klingon culture and society.

Klingons are misunderstood
If I had to be reincarnated, I would be reincarnated as a Klingon. Even though Klingons take no prisoners, they have a few smooth edges. Some how I do think that the whole Klingon race and Klingons in general are misunderstood. This book gives some virtues and good says that can be applied today. My favorite saying is "Revenge is a dish best served cold." and this saying can apply to anybody, even ex-fiances.
