Rebuilding Our Ethics Through Trust
Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Marc Bekoff have compiled ideas, stories, experience and much more about living a humane and ethical life into a book accessible to all. As the animal protection community has done for 50 years, this book shows that humans must respect the environment and all life if we, as a species, expect to survive. It is a very simple premise yet humanity has yet to catch on. The Ten Trusts not only gives us a path to follow, but it shows how others have acted before in trying to alter destructive patterns. Caring for others (animals, humans and nature) is not something radical, it is - humane! It is something everyone must do.

Goodall and Bekoff share their experiences from living a life of compassion and a boundless ethic. Few people are as well known and respected as Jane Goodall, but she has never rested on her fame. Instead, she stepped away from her field research and beloved friends in Gombe National Park, not to build monetary wealth, but to share her wealth of knowledge with young and old alike through lectures and programs such as Roots and Shoots. While Bekoff has spent years educating a more humane youth at the University of Colorado, all while helping us to better understand and appreciate animal behavior.

Over the last two years the Bush administration has systematically deconstructed even basic protections for the environment in order to please corporate greed. The Ten Trusts talks about many issues, one of which will certainly reappear following recent elections, is the drilling for oil in Alaska's ANWR. Even though the American public is opposed to destroying the last pristine environment, the Administration hopes to lull us into a belief that it is needed.

This does not have to be. Goodall, who revolutionized how humans think about other species through her work with chimpanzees and Bekoff, who is a leader in showing us that the minds of animals are as unique and complex as ours, have concisely gathered a wonderful set of ethics into an easily readable book. A book that everyone should read because it shows how we really can and MUST be compassionate.

A moving, enlightening, reaffirming book.
This is a wonderful book, filled with information and perspectives from which everyone will benefit. I recommend this book to "the converted" as well as to those who are unsure what all the vegetarians and animal-rights people are going on about. It's not a preachy book and it's not purely for animal lovers or "tree-huggers" -- it's a book for any human who cares (even slightly) about how his or her life affects other lives--the life of the planet and the lives of the animals (including humans) who live on it. I cannot imagine anyone who could read this book and not be affected by it. It's also very encouraging to read about the success of Ms. Goodall's Roots & Shoots program -- hopefully, the generations touched by her knowledge will do a better job than we have.

textbook of gi radiology
I unfortunatley bought this book from superbooks. com/ tradrer's library who did not send me the book for close to four weeks. They only sent me volume one of the two volume set, when I called them, they said they would send the second book out but never did, with a subsequent phone call, they again said they would send out the book, this is after being on hold for over and hour, when questioned why they said they had the book and did , the customer service person hung up on me...now they do not answer their phone.

The Best GI Radiology Book Ever
This book is an outstanding reference. It is complete, thorough, superbly written, and beautifully illustrated. It has been, and continues to be, the gold standard text in the rapidly evolving field of gastrointestinal radiology. This text is a must for any radiology department library, and an excellent value for any radiologist performing or interpreting flouroscopy or cross-sectional body imaging studies.

The Best of the Obscure Cities Series
In the early 1980s, Francois Schuiten and Benoit Peeters started the Obscure Cities series of graphic stories. Each story is about a different city or location in a strange and fantastic universe parallel to ours. All of the stories have something to do with architecture or urban design.

The first two stories were first published in America in Dark Horse Comics' Cheval Noir (in which they published the work European artists like Moebius, Manara, and Bilal). Later, the first three stories were published in the graphic novel format by NBM Publishing, another American garphic publishing house that tries to import, translate, and publish European comics.

"The Tower" is the third book in the series. It tells the story of a man who has been maintaining a section of a huge tower for 30 years. Everyday, he sees that the tower is slowly crumbling. Everyday, he tries to fix things around in his sector. Everyday, he tells himself that the ispector will come tomorrow and fire all of the other tower keepers who don't do their job and let time eat away at the magnificent tower. But deep inside, he feels that there is something wrong with the tower project. So one day, he decides to leave his sector and go to the lower levels of the tower -- to "the base." What he discovers is incredibly shocking to him: the tower project has been abandoned and forgotten. Now he must try to make sense of his confusing situation...

In my opinion, The Tower has the best story of the first three Obscure Cities books. The story touched me on an emotional level form the first few pages. The dialogue is very well written and this is probably why the story is so strong. The Tower is also the most philosophical of the Obscure Cities stories as it asks questions like 'What is the importance of the ambitions of one human generation to the next?' Like all stories in the series, the ending is very open to interpretation and the reader must decide what happened, what will happen, and what the point of the story was. I think this adds to the strength of the stroy.

The art is also, in my opinion, the best in the series. Most of the story is told through delicate black and white drawings. Some of the elements in the story are in color. These parts of the story are quite attractive. Francois Schuiten is said to be one of Europe's master draughtsman and anyone who sees the art of The Tower will have to agree.

I highly recommend this book to everyone! The next book in the series called "Brusel" is going to be published in English this month by NBM. I can't wait!

An accomplishment for Schuitten & Peeters
Along with Urbicande and Brusel, this is the most accomplished book that Schuitten & Peters have created. The superb graphism make you really feel what the hero feels. His job is to maintain a story of a mathusalemian tower by himself, and he slowly realizes that the world has forgotten about him. He finally decides to climb to upper stories to ask for explanation as well as help for his work, and discovers that the great Tower project has long since collapsed. Striving to make sense of his work and of the whole project, he witnesses humanity's failure and pretention. Unlike the other books of S&P, where you witness a whole society struggling for sense, The Tower is much darker because you, the fool full of good morals, come after the failure has happened. The culprits have disappeared and the remaining people are unaware that they were left behind. A real disaster of humanity and a pure pleasure to read and read again.

The Troll Tale & Other Scary Stories

An impressive selection of engaging fairy tales
Collaboratively collected and analyzed by Birke Duncan and Jason Marc Harris, The Troll Tale and Other Scary Stories is an impressive selection of engaging fairy tales about trolls, poltergeists, fairies and other creatures of folklore mythology. Narrated in the fantastic, sing-song style of folklore storytelling, The Troll Tale and Other Scary Stories is an engaging, entertaining, and strongly recommended anthology for folktale/fairytale enthusiasts.

A New Take on the Ghost Story
Harris' and Duncan's collection of eerie tales brings to the table a fresh look at a literary genre that has been confined to rattling chains and creaking floor boards for too long. The 'ghost story' is too limiting a moniker for a dynamic story type that includes myths, folklore, and belief systems that, as Harris and Duncan show clearly, can shed important light on all aspects of the human psychii. In reading "The Troll Tale" my understanding of that tantalizing corner of the mind that conjures the 'scary story' has been broadened appreciably. Harris and Duncan prove that eerie tales can tell us not only what raises the hair on our necks but what drives human nature. This is an engrossing and worthwhile read.

USSR: From an Original Idea by Karl Marx
This is a story of the USSR which is no longer there (except for its people who remain unchanged since 10 or 20 years ago).

Today, you don't have to pay a doorman to get into a restaurant, and floors at Moscow metro are no longer "fit to eat off". However, old ladies in the street will still reproach you for wearing no hat in winter, and your new Russian friends will still make detailed inquiries about your salary and incomes of other "typical" people in the West.

This informal guide to the USSR is very accurate and well-researched and the authors have remarkable attention to every breathtakingly ridiculous detail of life in the State of Workers and Peasants.

If you have never been to the Soviet Union, you will think that some of the things described there are too grotesque to be true.

If you know the Soviet Union well, you will be astonished by the depth of the authors' knowledge; then you will be laughing out loud as, page after page, you recognize one Soviet idiocy after another.

In addition, the authors offer structured explanation of the things you knew only empirically: i.e., brotherly nations are those which embraced socialism; progressive nations are those which have not embraced socialism but are not capitalist either because they are still working their way through feudalism; hard currency is a currency of any nation which is neither brotherly or progressive.

You will read this book in one evening, even if this means reading until 3 a.m. You will then regret that you got through it so quickly.

This book is a rare combination of first-class writing talent, honesty, humour and a subject matter which ought to be handled only by a writer who is capable of not taking even the grimmest issues seriously.

If You Have Been To The Old or New USSR, You Must Read This!
This book is absolutely hilarious. If you have ever been to pre- or post-perestroika Russia, you simply must read it.

Essentially, the book is a tour guide, but one designed to be read (at least to get the full impact of the humor) after you have been to Russia. I could not count the number of times I found myself saying, "That's exactly right!" or "It happened to me to!".

The humor lies totally in the fact that the authors write in an very subtle, straightforward way that makes the "quirkyness" of many Russian customs and traditions seem side-splittingly funny. For example, you are provided with the step-by-step process for bribing your way past the doorman at a restaurant. Or the description of borshch, the beet soup whose "purple coloring will transfer itself readily to fingers, clothes and subsequent bowel movements." (Probably the only example of bathroom humor in the book). The authors are both British, and this is reflected in the understated style of humor in the book.

Once again, do not miss this book!

This is a very excellent and informative book.It guides people about every problem related to this.I liked it very much.

The book that changed my life
I was one of the first people in line when Viagra, the acclaimed wonder drug, first came out. Unfortunately, my problems could not be overcome by a mere blue pill. The wonderful techniques employed by this book, including the numerous nonpharmaceutical organic natural remedies were a great help to me. The writing was brilliant, and recipes were as easy as one, two, three.

Manifesting at it's best!
Marc Allen's simple exercises and easy story telling makes this book a delight to read. Not your every day affirmations but, concrete advice and simple information to sink your soul into. One of many all time favorite motivational books for anyone who loves what they do and wants the money and success to follow.

Practical, grounded steps to becoming successful
A VISIONARY LIFE is Marc Allen's sequel to VISIONARY BUSINESS. In its pages, he shows readers how they can expand their consciousness and significantly raise the quality of their lives. The book gains credence due to the fact that Allen embraced the principles in his book when he and Shakti Gawain founded New World Library, a flourishing publishing company. Given Allen's own success, it would seem that he knows what he's talking about. A VISIONARY LIFE is a visionary book because it transcends the airy platitudes found in many New Age books and get into the real, practical work that it takes to not only have a successful life but to be a successful person.

A must have for any Vonnegut fanatic
I think the best word to describe this encyclopedia is "excessive." This book has more information about Vonnegut's characters and images and phrasing than Kurt himself probably has. After spending just five minutes browsing through it, I had concerns about Marc Leeds' health; after reading the whole thing, I had grave misgivings. This is the authoritative guide to Vonnegut's works...pick it up!

Vonnegut Fans, Memory Failing You?
If you memory isn't what it used to be and you love Vonnegut, this encyclopedia is just what you need to read or reread Vonnegut's works with full knowledge of plot, character setting and historical detail. A true find and a great buy...I love this book!

The San Francisco Punk Scene told in Photographs.
When I first heard about this Book, I eagerly awaited it's arrival. An Excellent documentation of the Looks and visual attitude that was unique to the San Francisco Scene. Even though the Photos include LA, London and NYC Stars, that original San Francisco feeling still emerges overall. It cries out for more books exploring it's values different from other Punk or Rock scenes. But at least we have Jim's Excellent Documentations and memories. Hopefully More Books coming from him in the future!

before punk fashion was sold at the mall......
....the West Coast punk rock scenesters created a style that looks surprisingly fresh and edgy even today: pink 60s leather coats, striped tees, shredded preppy button-ups, busted jeans, high heels with anklets, asymetrical haircuts, teddy boy coats, geometric print 80s, shrunken suits w/ skinny ties, and more. This is a great book for DIY fashion ideas-- from a time when ripped tee-shirts didn't cost $75 at trendy boutiques and jeans didn't come pre-sandpapered.
