Good to learn how to design Windows 2000 network solutions
This book is good. I am studying for the 70-216 and 70-221 Microsoft Exam to update my MCSE to Windows 2000 MCSE. There is no Microsoft Book now for these tests so I got this one. Not only did I really learn TCP/IP for the first time (I thought I understood TCP/IP and how it worked before), but I know now how so different Windows 2000 TCP/IP is from Windows NT TCP/IP. They are not the same! Only book I ever read that showed me how to design WINS and DNS solutions in real world. MSPRESS books did not show me that for Windows NT! This is a good book and I liked it a lot.

Excellent Coverage of Win2k Net Services
This book is fresh air to someone like myself who has read at least a dozen Windows 2000 books. I get the impression that a lot of the Windows 2000 books were written by people who write books and don't work with the technology. This book doesn't fall into that class. It was great to read this book, because it renewed my faith that a tech book could be written in a way that doesn't put me to sleep.

They cover Windows 2000 TCP/IP from top to bottom. WINS, DNS, DHCP, RRAS, IIS, routing and network devices. Its all there, and its filled with little known factoids that makes me want to keep reading and have another "aha!" experience.

This book also was the major reason I passed the Microsoft 216 exam so easily. Although I didn't buy it to pass the exam, they seem to cover all the material that the exam covered. A nice bonus. I wish they made the book longer, because I'm sure they could have said a lot more that I would like to read about.

This book isn't for beginners, but neither is Windows 2000. I think once the reader is ready to manage Windows 2000, they'll be ready to get the most out of this exceptional book.

Amazing!
I took the Microsoft exam 70-216 for network infrastructure today and all I can say is AMAZING! How did the writers know what was on the exam? There is so much obscure stuff on the exam that no other book I read covered the questons on the exam. But this one did. So much of the test was troubleshooting the network, so I guess a TCP/IP troubleshooting book would be the right one. But the similarity of this book to the test is amazing.

This book was good to read too and I am using it at my job and fixing some of the problems we've had with WINS and VPN based on what I learned. Great book and best study guide for the test.

Audiences Love Humor
This book will not help you tell jokes. It describes how to make your presentations more entertaining. Tom Antion's secrets on room setup and how to open a speech are worth more than the price of the book. Whether you are speaking to a large group or to a small sales meeting, the tips in this book will help you get your point across.

For coverage, click on Table of Contents in the left-hand column of this page.

Tom Antion is a marketing genius who teaches speakers how to speak and how to sell themselves. A gifted professional speaker, he shares his years of experience in these pages.

As a professional speaker and the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to get their point across to groups. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

Wake 'Em Up! is one funny, yet practical book!
Tom's book is a' must have' resource for both novice and experienced speakers. He shares dozens of practical tips that are guaranteed to keep even the stodgiest audience interested and involved. Or, as Tom puts it,keep them from passing through sleep ( zzzzz's), to rapid eye movement sleep ( new and improved zzzzz's) to a comatose state (extra heavy duty industrial strength zzzzz's). Tom also does a great job of helping you identify your audience's needs, and then shows you, step-by-step, how to make your presentation more powerful and more interesting.

As a professional speaker who's used Tom's techniques in my own presentations, I can tell you, these ideas really work - they can help you add just the right touch of humor and lots of excitement to your next speech or seminar. And, what's most important, help your audiences remember your message.

Wake 'em Up is fun, fast-paced, packed with great ideas - and required reading for anyone who has to speak in front of a group.

I refer to this book before every major presentation
As a professional speaker I find Mr. Antion's book, priceless. I read excerpts of the book several times before I do a major presentation. I especially love the technique of putting one's audience in a joyful and happy mode before going on stage. Tom calls this, "In-fun." This technique contributes immeasurably to the huge success I have had in my programs. I read this section of "In-fun" before going to bed the night of my event, visualizing my audience having the best time of their lives, as Tom teaches. The result never ceases to amaze me. I cannot thank Mr. Tom Antion enough for a job very well done. This book, "Wake 'em Up" indeed is priceless. It is a must for all engaged in giving presentations.

Make Money Self-Publishing : Learn How from Fourteen Successful Small Publishers

A fine, fine book
Whether you sell your manuscript to a publisher or publish yourself, the author must do the promotion. Writing and promoting are completely different challenges. But, one person can successfully be the author, the publisher, the publicist, the shipping person, and the bookkeeper--and end up with a profit. This book proves it.

Suzanne Thomas's newest book, Make Money Self-Publishing, describes how fourteen publishers have written, published, and sold enough books to support themselves. You get the inside stories of real people in real life situations. Not only will you learn about their successes, but also about their mistakes. You will discover that you can succeed even if some of your marketing efforts don't produce the results you expected.

Whether you are new to self-publishing or already have several books in print, you will find how to increase the odds that your publishing company will make money. You will gain insights into how to determine the size of your print runs, how to market your books effectively, what type of income you can expect, and how long it will take before your publishing business can support you.

Perhaps you suspect that successful self-publishers are somehow different, but the publishers in this book are ordinary people. No matter whether you've written a regional or national title, fiction or nonfiction, a cookbook or a textbook, you will find someone here to be your role model. Instead of reinventing the wheel, you can learn from their experiences. Just like Olympic athletes who visualize themselves performing perfectly, and thereby improve their real-world abilities, so too can you leap ahead in your skill level as a publisher.

Even if you started your publishing company last week, reading Make Money Self-Publishing can help you gain years of knowledge, while avoiding costly mistakes. Each of the profiled publishers have faced the same problems you have. Given the limitations of their available time and their budgets, they have figured out the best ways to sell their books. Some sell through traditional outlets such as bookstores while others sell their books in electronic format or through Internet bookstores. You can live through their experiences vicariously, imagining what the results would be for your book.

Though the job of a self-publisher is challenging and satisfying, the day-to-day work can sometimes be discouraging. Along with the successes come setbacks. Perhaps a wholesaler returned a carton of your books. Maybe your sales numbers have started to drop. Or a public relations company hasn't produced results.

At moments like these it is important to have friends who can help with advice, but they aren't always available when you need them. The publishers in this book, however, can act as handy substitutes, conveniently waiting on your bookshelf. What did Cheri Thurston do to reduce returns from wholesalers? How did the Hoffmans rejuvenate the sales of one of their cookbooks after annual sales dropped to 1,000 copies? What did Gayle Mitchell do when she decided she could market her book better than the company she had hired?

Sometimes you won't be looking for solutions to particular problems. Instead you may want an injection of enthusiasm. Rereading your favorite chapters will inspire you to try something new, remind you of an idea you had forgotten, or motivate you to write the next book. Each chapter is a story, and beyond their educational value, they are also plain fun to read.

Make Money Self-Publishing is a valuable addition to any publisher's library. It's an invaluable reference for any self-publisher who needs encouragement and guidance. Suzanne's book provides you with valuable information sweetened by a huge dose of inspiration. If you want to make money as a publisher, then you should read this book.

Suzanne Thomas has succeeded at both publishing and real estate. Determined, focused and tenacious, she succeeds by helping others reach their goals.

A compendium of invaluable advice and "how to" tips
Make Money Self-Publishing is a compendium of invaluable advice and "how to" tips, tricks and techniques drawn from fourteen successful self-published authors who have written and published their own works in the genres of cookbooks, mysteries, travel guides, business, education, and women's fiction. Aspiring self-publishers will learn how to evaluate the potential of their book concepts; avoid making costly "beginner" mistakes; learn effective and essential marketing ideas; discover profitable places to sell books outside of traditional bookstores; publicize and promote their book on the Internet and the world wide web; calculate how many books need to be published in order to earn a living; balance the hours of work against a potential income figure; decide when and why to publish other authors; even how to sell publishing rights to a major New York house for additional profits. Make Money Self-Publishing is a valued and much appreciated addition to any personal, professional, school or community writing/publishing reference book collection.

I love this book!
What a valuable twist on all the self-publishing advice that's out there! I love the anecdotes about *real* self-publishers, especially the concrete information about sales volumes and income streams. Other anecdote-based books about self-publishers whose books became best-sellers are inspiring, but not too realistic for most of us. This book tells stories about publishers who are able to make a living with moderately successful books.

Because Suzanne has chosen a wide variety of publishers for her anecdotes, the reader can see that there is no "one right way" to be successful in the publishing business. This book almost has a "do what you love and the money will follow flavor"--many of the publishers profiled have gone into the business, not for the profit potential, but because the business gives them the flexibility to live their chosen lifestyles.

I highly recommend this well-written book to fledgling self-publishers looking for advice, inspiration, and a change of pace at the end of an exhausting day learning the dozens of new skills required in the publishing business.

GREAT SUBJECT BOOK
This is probably the best written book I have seen on breeding fish. It covers Clownfish history, matchmaking, housing, breeding, and raising of young. If you ever intend to raise or breed clownfish, GET THIS BOOK. I purchased this book because I wanted to simply have some clownfish in my tanks. This book inspired me to go from simply raising these fish to breeding them, and having confidence that I can actually succeed. On top of this it also has a wonderful section on anemones. The is also very well-written and filled with a few stories from the authors real life.

Comprehensive guide, nice photos
This is an excellent guide to raising clownfishes. I love the numerous full-color photos. The book starts out with a nice overview of the benefits of raising clownfish & information on life in their natural habitat.

Next, there is a list featuring detailed information on each of the host anemones. Anemone care & physiology are also covered. I found the chapter on species selection very helpful. Each of the different species is described in detail.

There is also great information on choosing companion fish. General care of fish including aquarium setup, feeding, keeping your fish healthy & treating diseases is next. A section on breeding clownfish is invaluable.

Clownfish reproduction & spawning as well as care & feeding of the eggs, larva & young fish are thoroughly covered. With its expert information this book would make a wonderful addition to any marine aquarist's library.

A very refreshing, concise and informative Clownfish book
I must say it was so refreshing to read Clownfishes. I have yet to find another clownfish book as concise and informative. It was written for the average individual in a manner that the majority of aquarium hobbyist would understand. A gold mine of useful information. Mrs J.Wilkerson can deservingly be proud of the contribution that she has made towards this fascinating hobby.

Lest We Forget: The Passage from Africa to Slavery and Emancipation

LEST WE FORGET!!!
This book gives dimensional insight to those not only wanting to read about the horrific history of slavery, but also, have pieces of history, that are tangible, to lift from the pages and look at. It is a good book to add to a collection of other books about a period in African American, and American history.
I also wanted to comment on reviewers Alice, who said the book was "cute," and Karen, who liked to "peek" at the items in the book. The book gives the reader a glimps about slavery and the atrocities that African Amercian people suffered in this country during that time period, and still do because of it. There is definitely nothing cute, or delightful to peek at, about this book, but you can learn from it.

A PURE VIEW OF SLAVERY, PEOPLE BUY ONE, LEST WE FORGET!!!
ONCE YOU PICK THIS BOOK UP YOU WILL FEEL HOW SLAVERY WAS FOR BLACK PEOPLE. BEING ABLE TO TOUCH A SLAVES FREEDOM PAPERS; A BILL OF SALE FOR A SLAVE; AND A LOOK AT HOW SLAVES WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE AMERICAS THEN 'LEST WE FORGET'. EVERY BLACK FAMILY NEEDS TO HAVE THIS BOOK IN THEIR LIBRARY. THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN IF WE FORGET...

THANK YOU...
For bringing into reality my ancestors experience in which I can touch, hold and know.

Thank for putting together such a wholesome and needed tool in which I can share the history of my people with my children.

Thank you for having the wisdom, the insight and the strength for producing such a prolific heart wrenching book.

Thank you for giving me something of which I can look at and know that no struggle I ever have or ever will endure can't even measure a a drop in the bucket of what my ancestors encountered.

That we, as a people, should stand proud of where we came from and remember the sacrafices made to get us here.

Thank you for remembering and bringing the truth of who they were and how they lived back into the world.

entertaining
I saw Kay speak at the Oxford Michigan library. She has an unbelievable love for birds, and I truly appreciate people who have such a passion for anything (legal). While I only have a moderate interest in 'birding', I did find this book entertaining and easy to read. Itr consisits of aminly short 'stories' involving some bird related topic. I applaud Kay for working so hard for the birds and the environment- we need more people like her.

Great reading, one chapter at a time
Kay Charter's book is a well-written story of a life dedicated to following one of the roads less traveled in our society - the road leading towards helping some facet of nature at the expense of accumulating conventional material wealth. In Kay's life, that road she chose to travel led to helping birds. In a series of marvelous vignettes she describes how her choice of roads unfurled before her over the past twenty years as she traveled around the country. Each chapter is very well-written. Most of them make a good point without being preachy. The book is easy to read in snatches of time here and there or in a few longer readings. Reading this book is well worth the time invested.

"Lake Wobegon" for Birders
I loved this book! It's like reading Lake Wobegon tales for birdwatchers. The book is a series of short tales (could be good bedtime stories!) about birds and conservation as written by an avid birdwatcher and conservationist. Kay Charter's stories are unique, funny, sad, and clearly express her passion for birds.

The Charters own a 40+ acre bird sanctuary in Michigan. The book describes may of their birding adventures both on their property and on their travels. Kay Charter is serious about maintaining a safe haven for the birds she loves and works to protect. Her book warmed by heart with her efforts to save song birds and their habitat. It's easy to read a little bit at a time or straight through.

It's great reading for anyone interested in wild birds.

Take a close look.
I've just finished reading The Crown of Eden, the first book in the Seven Kingdoms Chronicles, by Thomas Williams, and am very interested to learn more about this author and his writing. I've found little to no information about him on the internet. The most I know is that Word Publishing (Thomas Nelson) is the Publisher of this book.

The parallels to the gospel, and Christianity, that are woven into this magical tale of a Medieval world are amazing. And the way in which they are woven is nothing short of genius. I love the book, already love the author, and am desperate to learn more of him, and when the next books in the Chronicles are coming. I highly recommend this book, and encourage the reader to look closely to find for themselves what the writer is really writing about. Keep your Bibles handy!

Spellbinding -- Much More Than A Love Story!
Aradon and Volanna are the perfect fantasy hero and heroine. They are called on again and again to make difficult decisions in the midst of the intrigue and hardships that surround them. This book really has something to offer everyone -- romance, suspense, danger, humor. The hardest thing about reading this book is that it ends -- far sooner than you are willing to stop reading. I hope that Mr. Williams will continue this story of Aradon and Volanna, along with the other wonderful characters of the Seven Kingdoms. Read this -- I am sure you will feel the same!

A CLASSIC - A COMPELLING MUST!
This compelling love story set in medieval times shows the sacred convictions of beauty, morality, honor and integrity of which God originally intended. This book is ideal for helping instill Godly values in the younger readers, as well as support the values that are held dear by families that long for more depth in meaningful relationships.

Thomas Williams is right up there with C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. It's a MUST to read and I look forward to reading the sequels!

Great but not an orderly comprehensive work
This is one of the best books to read among all the 'tell-all' novels about airlines and their managers. Unfortunately, Petzinger zig zags around characters and events that become confusing and annoying. Many of the significant facts are lost as a result and the reader must go back to truly understand particular concepts and processes of airline management.

Another problem is that the author does a tremendous job explaining the history and ramifications of what the airlines and their managers did, but only takes one small chapter at the end to explain the future of the airline industry and its new leaders.

For the size and comprehensiveness of the book, a few more pages devoted to his best estimates for the future would have only made it perfect.

I wish I hadn't read this book...
because I would love to go through the experience of reading it for the first time again.
I work in the Airline Industry in Australia in an operational role that has aspects of Industrial Relations associated with it. To read a book that relates so many interesting and insightful stories into the trials and tribulations of De-reg in the US and the power plays between the various airlines and the Unions was nothing but fascinating.
Well researched, well written and very enjoyable. I recomend it to anyone employed or aspiring to airline management

Powerful read about one of our major industries
Mr. Petzinger makes a very confusing, controversial, and always timely subject very accessible. As the son of a long-time manager in the airline industry, I was able to track events from my childhood by different labor strikes, airline births and deaths. The attention to the founding of the industry and the always unique position held by the airlines in making America what she currently is is exceptional.

Finally, a book about pool that covers it all!
Don't be fooled by the title, though. This book is for everyone. Even advanced players will learn something from this former world champion's new book!

Expanding on her first book, "The Ewa Mataya Pool Guide," the author goes into great detail to explain everything from how to chalk up to advanced trick shots.

This is the book that I wished for when I first started playing pool. Not all great players can teach, but this author definitely can. The book assumes you know nothing about pool but somehow manages not to talk down to you even if you have advanced knowledge on the subject. The book progresses in a logical order, but is designed so that you can use it as a reference book as well, looking up just what you want to know.

More advanced players will undoubtedly find something helpful even in the pages covering the fundamentals. The sections on advanced play are written such that even a beginner can understand the theory, even if they won't be able to put it into practice right away.

Throughout, the author peppers the pages with anecdotes (both personal and historical), mistakes to avoid, and unusual billiards facts. I can honestly say that this is the only instructional book about anything that I've ever read that's kept me up with "just one more page" for 50 or 60 pages.

If you're a beginner and you can only get one pool/billiards book, this is the one to get! I know that I'll be referring to my copy many, many times in the years to come.

Great book
I have been playing pool for sometime, and I can hold my own to most people. This book is a lot of fun to read, and offers you clear, useful and very practical advice about every aspect of the game and the sport.

The book covers everything from how to play, to how to select the equipment, jokes and even the history of billidards. Its extremly easy and fun to read, and once you pick it up, you can't put it down.

Had I known half of the stuff the book covers, I would have save a lot of time "discovering" the right technics, and wasted no money in the wrong equipment.

Even if you are an intermediate player, this book will be helpfull (it definitely has helped me to play better). Its a must to anyone who are interested in pool and/or wants to play better.

Outstanding, from Soup to Nuts
I have loved the game of billiards for some time, but only recently decided to get serious about improving my game. I have read other books including "The 99 Critical Shots in Pool" by Ray Martin. This is simply the best book that I have read on the subject.

The book's scope is ambitious. The authors give essential information on all the equipment you need, everything from choosing a cue to play with when you go to play at your local pool hall to setting up a billiard room at home. The critical aspects of pool etiquette are also covered. The book gives detailed instructions on how to develop the fundamentals of the game, from the rules (which are explained clearly) to how to hold the cue, stand at the table, and so forth.

Furthermore, for an experienced player who may have a handle on the fundamentals, the book explains the principles of position play, English, and even explains several trick shots, not to mention important tips on how to spot a hustle.

The book is exceptionally well-written and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone interested in billiards. For the beginner, it provides easy-to-follow instructions on the fundamentals of the game. For the accomplished player, it can help you get to the next level.

An outstanding anthology of thirteen stories
Author Thomas Vasseur's Discovering The World: Collected Stories is an outstanding anthology of thirteen stories set in the disappearing rural South, the New South, and the grand world at large. Variety spices the tales, from a little boy who discovers the wonder of flight to the rocky relationship between a German woman who has immigrated to the Deep South and her troubled teenage daughter. In the title novella, a "Southern Native" and a veteran of the Vietnam War travel to an island in Fiji to repair a damaged sailboat. A common theme of looking within the self unites all the tales, which take a hard look at America's class structure and at human spirituality. Thomas Vasseur's stories are as original and thought-provoking as they are highly recommended.
