Mark Twain Remembers
"Mark Twain Remembers" is one of the best books I have read in quite a while. It is entertaining, sensitive, creative and beautifully written. It is remarkable how Mr. Hauser, who is well known for his sports writing, could write a book of such delicate poetry. I loved it and I would recommend it to anyone. Bravo, Mr Hauser.

Mark Twain comes back to life!
Mark Twain Remembers arrived in the mail and I hungrily devoured it, savoring every morsel of its clever prose and intriguing personalities. But I am not sated, just sad that the book is finished, and will seek out other books authored by Thomas Hauser. Deliberately trying to prolong my pleasure and immersion into the life of Samuel Clemens, not wanting it to end, I attempted to put off reading its end, but was compelled to. His outlook on life and love drew me into his world, enabling me to view it differently than ever before. I am richer for having had this experience. Not ordinarily a fan of boxing books, the sense of humanity portrayed in the fight sequence sparked my imagination. The courage displayed by Bones as he fought against slavery was memorable. I read with bated breath awaiting the climax (which I won't reveal lest I ruin it for you!). This extraordinary, compelling book is full of gems as it exposes the cruel as well as compassionate side of human nature. It is so human a story. I was mesmerized.

Hauser proves to be one of our generation's best novelists
"Mark Twain Remembers" is an absolute joy to read. A rich, full and quite-imaginative romp through one of the most interesting periods in US history, as ostensibly-seen through the eyes of Samuel Clemens. His use of Don King as a model for the Hiram Kane character is--at turns-- brilliant, and wildly-satiric. Just a fantastic read for both fans of boxing and Americana.

Thomas Bleier and Eric Steinert's Net.People covers the personalities behind the web sites, from how ideas are translated into Web sites to problems of webmastering and how individuals succeeded in web ventures. A "must read" for cyber buffs and web history enthusiasts!

fun and fascinating
Not since college have I read a book overnight, and that was under duress. net.people on the other hand is a delight; a candid, insightful look into the lives and sites that are fueling the web's explosive growth. Bleier and Steinert capture the essense of how some people and sites have taken great advantage of the web's awesome entrepreneurial opportunities. net.people is useful for both the net savvy seeking insights for making their sites more successful and the general public interested in a fascinating glimpse of the internet's grass roots, pioneers and web celebs.

Will Inspire Others to Go Online Themselves!
Thomas Bleier and Eric Steinert have brought together in net.people the people, the content, and the work that has gone into a sampling of Websites representative of average people like you and me. The book profiles the lives of men and women who offer a variety of informational services that include budget living, comic books, electronic gaming, horse riding, humor, medical advice, misheard song lyrics, B-movies, movie reviews, software reviews, sports, unusual tourist attractions, writer resources, Website reviews, and even celebrity grave sites - honest!

Readers will learn how the ideas of these people were turned into successful Websites and about the amount of time, labor, expense, and strategies involved in launching them. How did they design their Websites? How did they find financing for their sites? How do they draw increased traffic to them? What were the successes and failures they experienced? How have their lives been changed? The answers to these and other questions are here for all to read and learn from.

Just who are these people? They are people just like you and me. They have real interest in sharing certain information with others for fun, and in some cases, for profit of one kind or another. They have knowledge, skill, talent, ideas, and opinions just like anyone else. What makes them different is they have gone online with their offerings. They have experienced the good times and the bad. Readers may be able to identify with them as they read this highly personal and revealing book.

This book will inspire readers to take their own thoughts and ideas online as well. It will help them to further develop their own ideas, to design their own Websites, and come up with their own marketing strategies. It's highly recommended reading for anyone wanting to go online. Readers will have fewer excuses not to do so after reading this book!

A Scenic Technical Manual
Mr Kouros' tome combines a scenic tour of the game and a technical manual on how to play it. His chapter on the various releases alone is worth the cover price. Other insightful items include a behind-the-scenes peek at PBA Tour conditions and a thoughtful piece on the mysteries of the "mid-roll", probably the Holy Grail of all serious bowlers. Heavy stuff to wade through - then again it's never easy to haul pure gold out of them mines. I've read through the book a couple of times now and there is always something new to catch my attention. This book is the next best thing to a full-time coach. If you love the game, you should get a copy to keep.

Best Bowling Book Available
I've read virtually every bowling book available (and quite a few that are out of print) and this is by far the best.

It is incredibly detailed, advanced bowlers will love it, new bowlers may be a bit overwhelmed at first.

Par Bowling: One of the best books on bowling
Par Bowling is one of the great books on bowling. Kuros goes through all the intracies in the game. Well worth reading and studying. It has helped my game tremendously. The book does need to be updated to more modern conditions and it would be wonderful if Kuros could expand more on the ideas and even use more elaborate graphics. To some, the book may seem too detailed, but that is its strength. Kuros does a masterful job of breaking down the elements of good bowling and develing into them. He also is wide open to what's good bowling and what is not and also where one can be flexible. I especially enjoyed is talk abot "mid-roll" - a real secret to putting good action on ball.

Fantastic information, great book
Tom's book contained exactly what I was looking for, financial information about the business of book publishing. I come from the franchising industry were every business has its operating norms and ratios. To my dismay, I was unable to find norms and ratios about the book publishing industry until I read this book. I would urge anyone in the publishing business or anyone considering publishing a book to read this book.

How to Organize Your Publishing Company
The first time I read this book was early in my career as a publisher. With only one book on the market, a lot of the advice didn't hit home. How hard is it to manage one title and a part-time assistant? Now with three books in print and more in the pipeline, I'm finding Publishing for Profit ever more useful. With growth in mind, I need guidelines from someone who's been there, done that. Mr. Woll's experiences with a number of publishing companies gave him a broad-based view that will be equally as helpful to companies who are reorganizing as well as to upstart companies who want to start off on the right foot. Does the single title self-publisher need this book? Not really (though if he or she is planning or dreaming of bigger things, reading this book might be educational). But the multi-title, multi-author, multi-employee publisher should take a look to see if his or her publishing system could be improved. Mr. Woll covers it all, from working with staff and authors, to managing cash flow and developing company goals.

Profit From Experience
Whether publishing their own work or taking in manuscripts, publishers pursue fame, fortune or both. Unfortunately, most publishers are interested primarily in marketing, promoting and distributing; selling more books. Tom Woll shows you something more important: keeping track; counting your money. He shows you how to manage your cash and organize your business--to sell more books.

I have been a publisher for 31 years and I wish this book had been written 32 years ago. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

Hambarger
I only gave it four stars because I have not yet read it, but from what I know of the man it must be an excellent read, and also a way of understanding the Saudis of today by seeing where they were sixty years ago. Barger made a huge impact on the nation, even in their pronounciation of the "hambarger"! ^_^ Barger was a man who was not only intrested in the geology of the young country but it's people, customs and history. In my mind not only people who have an intrest in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia should read this book, but anyone who enjoys stories of adventuring pioneers and men who take the road less travelled.

As a Saudi I am impressed with this book
I am an American Educated Saudi businessman living in Jeddah, Saudi Arbaia but I have been doing business with Aramco for the past 20 years or so. I know the Eastern part of Saudi Arabia as well as Riyadh, where my family and I lived for 17 years before moving back to our home town, Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia, seen in the eyes of a young geologist armed with little background information, became a fertile ground to develop his exploratory instincts prodded by his young wife through lovely romantic letters. He fell in love with the country and the country fell in love with him. This affair, I believe, fuelled his love for his wife and hers for him.

It is a book I am recommending for my children to read to "re-discover" their country instead of relying on uninformative and largely incorrect description by satellite media moguls.

My grandfather was a wonderful man!
As being one of the many grandchildren of Thomas Barger (A.K.A Daddy Tom to us!)I found this book inspirational and touching. I never had the chance to actually meet my grandfather, but through this book I had a chance to understand what his job really entailed and how great a man he really was. The best part of the book are the love letters between Daddy Tom and Kathleen. Their romance produced 6 wonderful children and 13 glorious grandchildren. Get this book if you are even slightly interested in the history and traditions of Arabia!

Good Book, but not for Rookies
OK Guys,

I recognized that every review is always so clean (no spelling mistakes, no grammar errors). Sometimes I think the Team itself writes some of them to impress readers. ;-)

I can agree that this Book is not to bad, but if somebody says it's the best way to learn PHP then he's not completely right.
There is no way that you can see thro the whole php-code without having read a "PHP-only" book before.
I don't say that every little step has to be explained (the book would be 2000 and more pages big), but i couldn't find that this book is not made for beginners anywhere on the book-explanation page.

Nice book, but please when you are a beginner, try a more explaining book first. Then go and buy this one.

Thank you

Don't miss out
This is the most rock solid computer science programming text that i have read in the last decade.Period.No one should miss out on this buy.

Best among the lot
This book is simply the best among the sea of books available today on PHP and MySQL. Anyone wanting to learn how to create a site using the three popular technologies - PHP, Apache and MySQL should buy this book.

What i found most interesting was the LEARNING CURVE - too fast, too ruddy fast that your client will gape at the speed at which you put together his site.

Magnifico!
First, the characters are great. Their descriptions are very thorough. You can almost see them, as if they really are true persons. Second, the plot of the story is very well-defined. Third, the flow of the story is well-timed.

Review of Erich Segal's "Prizes"
Prizes is an truly terriffic book. It has a plot similar to that of a daytime soap opera, however, it is much more sophisticated and realistic. Although very exciting with many interesting twists and turns, the book displays a strong theme of man's selfish nature, and causes one to take a serious look at the ethics of the world today. The themes of great human achievment and perseverence are also prominent. I enjoyed "Prizes" thouroughly, and I strongly recommend it for readers seeking a well developed, entertaining story.

One of Erich Segal's best!
This is the second book I've read from Erich Segal, the first being "The Class", and all I can say is that its a very, very enjoyable book to read. I can't put it down. After this, I'm looking forward to buying his other books as well. Good work, Mr. Segal.

Reaping the Whirlwind: A Trent Tyson Historical Mystery

An Easy Way
Rosey Dow adeptly wove truth and fiction together in this extemely interesting and informative novel, Reaping the Whirlwind. While the mystery keeps the reader engrossed in the plot, he is learning historical truth as well as seeing the tragic consequences of embracing the lie of evolution. I would probably not have chosen to read an account of the Scopes trial, although this would be an important thing to do. Rosey made it 'easy' for me to gather truth I needed to know while thoroughly enjoying a gripping plot I could not solve!

A Must Read for Mystery/History Buffs!
Rosey Dow has successfully blended historical fact with a mystery that reads like part of the Scopes trial in "Reaping the Whirlwind". The who-dunnit portion of Ms. Dow's latest effort is so well done, I defy anyone to guess the criminal's identity. Her accurate, painstaking research is clearly reflected in the clear and informative presentation of the Scopes "monkey" trial details. For entertainment, this is tops. For historical accuracy, it can't be bettered. I would recommend this for anyone who has an interest in mysteries or historical fiction. But be warned...don't start reading until you have time to finish...you won't want to put it down!

Not a history or mystery buff? Not a problem
This book is so well written, so riveting, and so historically significant, it is truly one of the rare books for all seasons and all literary tastes.

Rosey has managed to bury the villian and expose the facts about the Scopes Trial-of-the-century so masterfully that the reader will surely misjudge the outcome and gain an invaluable history lesson without even being aware this could be a textbook. In fact, were I an American history teacher, it would most certainly be on my list of required reading.

It really should be on yours.

And no redeeming value
Perfect read for the less sophisticated, the provincial, the simple-minded. Hard to slug through the small-town cliches, and no reward for the effort. And the band-music plot offers no redeeming value.

A yawner
Poor plot development and a strained premise make this a howler. Avoid at all cost.

March of the Fireflies Is a Delightful Tale
March of the Fireflies is a delightful, almost mystical tale of a summer in a small Minnesota town. It's told from the viewpoint of a young boy, Henry North, and contains a full cast of small town characters, all well drawn. This book is good reading for teen-agers and adults alike.
