A *** Classic *** and a must-read for all serious X-C skiers
I agree with JP in Michigan's insightful analysis of this wonderful x-c skiing book. Trully dated, anyone with a trace of the 'old x-c skiing ethic should try to get a copy of this book, read it, and take the lesson to heart. (but you can't have my copy).

The only humorous, insightful, literary XC book out there!
This book is dated. Pure 60's, 70's. --The kind of dating that "outdoor sport" needs now. TCCSCLPB is the only book about the *WHY* of XC, and it goes pretty deep. It's also whimsical. If you're looking for something other than How-To or Ultra Mountain Dude in the way of XC books, this is just about it, folks. Nice photos. Includes spoofery of the XC how-to book genre as well as its rampant consumerism and much other just plain fun. Actually, I suspect the listing on Amazon is just an ISBN gleaning. I *SERIOUSLY* doubt it's in print. I rank it as VERY hard to find and collectible. So much for high tech! :)

It warmed the heart to read about such dedication and love.
After reading the book twice I found that I was profoundly moved by the caring of one person for another. It was a learning experience to view the situations that arose between the medical world and the patient. Patricia Fentons delicate yet forceful treatment of her Aunt Allie was a lesson we all need to learn for if we are ever faced with the same situation we need to address it in a like manner, with humor and love. Once I started reading I couldn't put the book down, I looked forward to the next adventure with much anticipation and was never disappointed. This is a must book for anyone who is faced with the caring of a terminally ill person, be it a loved one, a friend or a stranger. It is an inspiration for all of us.

This book is a life-changing experience.
Not long after I read this book, my landlady began to fail and then died. The process was exactly as the author described it and I knew exactly what to do to comfort her and her family in order to make my landlady's transition a memorable experience for all. Besides useful information about death and dying, it's a hilarious romp through the author's life wih the most unforgettable characters. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone with a loved one who is ill or dying or simply because you want a good story.

A great book!
I thought this book was extremely good. The characters seemed alive, and the plot was very entertaining. I couldn't put it down! The authors did a good job of building upon the previous book, but I'd have liked to read more about the dragons. Hopefully they weren't left out of the book on purpose! I can't wait for the third book to come out, I hope it's soon! If you've read the first book, you have to read this one!

neck breaking adventure
IF you read the first one you have to read this one. And if you didn't read the first one you have to read this one. The breakneck speed this story runs at made it impossible for me to put the book down. And there are absolutely no characters you could care less about in this book. The only thing I could find wrong was that I wondered if the authors had maybe too many characters, because I want to know what happens to Kelyan? He was there, and then after everything he does for the Elvenbane she just ups and forgets he's around? Please tell me that was an oversight! But this will be one that will keep you up until the dawn finishing it.

Che should have been an author!
Che's unique and splendid writting style manifests itself in this excellent book, detailing the myriad battles and episodes of the Cuban Revolution. A must for all!!!

First hand account of the Cuban Revolution
First, a great book! Second, the author is none other than Che Guevara. Third, humorously and eloquently written, Che explains a revolutionary's fight for a better life in Cuba leading up to the victory in 1959! A must read for any Che or Cuba fan!

Esoteric Psychology, Vol. I & II
I was studying Esoteric Psychology by Alice Bailey at the same time that I was studying Psychology at university. An interesting experience, indeed, since the spiritual aspect of the human being came into play thanks to the esoteric view of man's makeup. Man, as part of the universe, comes into play with Esoteric Psychology, a place in the scheme of creation, which traditional psychology ignores. Knowledge of the fundamentals of man's psychology is expressed in Vol. I. The various universal laws are clearly explained in Vol. II. Read one; read them both. They complement one another. The reading of these volumes has introduced me to myself as a member of the Universal Body. I am not a pebble, I am part of the whole...just as we all are.

Can easily be choosed as a 1st book to read from A.A.B.
A whole book in itself, practical. Yet encourages to read a lot more of the Author's Litterature.

Art, Sex, and Scandal: The Life of Thomas Eakins
Thomas Eakins is one of those artists that you're probably not familiar with but whose works are immediately recognizable. Despite his great skill as a painter, which is evident in the beautifully reproduced plates, he was unappreciated and his work was mostly ignored in his lifetime. Never discouraged, he continued producing controversial (and stunning) works that were years ahead of their time.

But it is Eakins' private (and sometimes not so private) life that makes this book a real page-turner. Being an art instructor teaching nude drawing to boys and girls in Victorian-era Philadelphia put Eakins in a moral minefield in which he, naively or willfully, chose to run and dance through.

It would have been easy to make a soap opera of Eakins' biography (he certainly provided enough script) but Alice Carter tells his story with sympathy and compassion. In much the same way that Eakins painted his portraits, she skillfully selects the personal details and human touches that capture the subject's personality. Highly recommended.

Carter's Wonderful New Work -- a great read
Alice Carter has written an extremely informative and wonderfully
entertaining book for Abrams. The Essential Series has added a 'must have' volume to its library. I was completely surprised to find a thoroughly detailed and revealing biography in this handy format.
Eakins' prolific output and tumultuous teaching career is perfectly documented by Carter with care, compassion, and, when appropriate, quite humorously. Carter has done an excellent job distilling a very complicated life of one of America's finest painters and art teachers.
The reproductions of Eakins' drawings, paintings, and photographs
couldn't be better. Congratulations to Carter and thanks to Abrams, this is a fine book at a great price. I think the ever critical Eakins would have agreed.

This is a wonderful, wonderful book!!
Christmas is a very magical time in our home, and this book will be a special part of each Christmas holiday sesaon. It is full of wonderful stories to read to children of all ages! I am very particular about the types of stories that I read to my kids and the themes that I want them exposed to, given their young and impressionable ages; I couldn't recommend this book any higher!

This is the best of 17 Collections in our Library!
As a Teacher and Professional Storyteller, I am always looking for new stories and outstanding re-tellings of classics. This Beautifully illustrated book is the best I have ever seen in my yearly Nov. search for new Christmas stories! I am already working on mastering 9 of its stories to tell and 3 poems that will be read aloud! In the other 17 books I have read, I only found 7 other stories to tell!

Family Travels in India
Published in Paperback by Monsoon House (30 December, 2002)
Author: Alice Trembour
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Great across-the-globe non-fiction!
The most meaningful travel is when one arrives at a destination and "makes camp", rather than doing the quick "5 cities in 5 days" route! But many of us can't manage that much time away. Traveling to India is a world away from the life that most Americans lead, and getting there is often beyond our budgets and time constraints. The book,Travels in India, allows the reader to visit India in all her vastness, cultural richness, and amazing diversity of every day life in one community for the small price of the book, and to experience a year there with Ms. Trembour and her family. We are transported to a community life similar to our own in its concerns and cause for celebration, and yet worlds apart. One may also gain an appreciation of the value of taking one's children out of the country for awhile to get another point of view. Read this book if you can't arrange to get to India to experience her for yourself, or read it to be inspired to go! (Or try, if you can, to get your kid to read it for a book report assignment, and give them a taste of another culture!)

A biased review
As the mother of the author, I can truly say that although I had read this book as its email installments crossed my computer screen, when it arrived in the mail I couldn't put it down. It is full of delightful tales, some scary, many funny.

The adventures of this family in India provide a primer for any family on how to adapt to new surroundings and strange experiences quickly and well. If you are planning a trip to a developing country, this book should be in your luggage.
