I was fortunate to have found this!
I was indeed very shocked to discover that this book had gone out of print - since it has become so useful during my high school career. Perhaps they're making a new version that's up to date :-) I did find this book extremely useful in planning out activities for high school. This book was intended for students who are very ambitious and motivated to graduate at the top of their class and get into the college they want! If it has any flaws, I would have to say that the book contains so much information for one person to handle. For instance, it lists many independent studies available for high school students which include college consortiums with Harvard, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins.(including the specific URL on the internet sites)It contains a wealth of information about who to contact regarding summer abroad opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and organizations that provide scholarship money. It's basically everything an ambitious student needs to have a worthwhile high school experience in one package. Furthermore, I like how the author is also realistic and points out that while there are many who can be super students and over-achievers, this is not necessarily the straight ticket to Harvard (the book gives you a great start though!).

Took me just a few hours to devour this book, should be read backwards so that the early chapters provide the humorous relief that I would need. I'm looking for more books on this mega-man

Excellent state of the art review of muscle pain syndromes
This book is a compilation of articles by the world's experts on muscle pain syndromes, including fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome based on presentations during the 1998 Myopain conference in Italy, sponsored by the International Myopain Society. It provides an excellent overview of the current knowledge base of these syndromes, the etiology, treatment options, etc. The book is intended for persons with some medical background and may be a bit too technical for others. Highly recommended!

She's Not Your Average World Traveler
Juanita Harrison, a southern African American woman, overcame the obstacles of poverty, a lack of formal education, racism, and a little thing called the Great Drepression to fulfill her dream of seeing the world on her own terms. This collection of her diary entries, unedited for grammar and spelling, has captured the voice of a resourceful, intelligent, adventurous and charming woman. Ms. Harrison's colorful descriptions, clear-eyed assessments of human nature (including her own), shrewd bargain hunting, and her whole-hearted enjoyment of all the good things in life should serve as inspiration to all would-be travelers.

Old woman at play
Published in Unknown Binding by Clarke, Irwin ()
Author: Adele Wiseman
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $13.76
Average review score:

An inspiring story of creativity
Adele Wiseman tells the story of her mother's dollmaking. The dolls are all different, made from "found" objects, and are made mainly to be given to sick children. Adele gradually teases out the deeper impulses behind her mother's activity, in the process revealing a lot about what creativity really is: part of our human birthright, and not restricted to an exclusive club of "great artists" (although Adele Wiseman's novels arguably show her as a great artist herself). The book traces a deepening path of gradual revelations about what is really going on. It is an inspiring and, finally, moving tribute.

Great ideas for getting classroom portfolios started
Adele Fiderer helps take the mystery out of portfolios--a great assessment tool for showing student progress throughout the year. Show don't tell parents how their children are progressing. Blackline masters are right there for self-assessment, book lists, interest inventories, and more. You'll love this book whether you are teaching primary or intermediate grades.

Better than Nytol!
This book has proven to be a Godsend for our 4 and 2 year old boys - it converts them from rambunctious destroyers to nuzzling geeks just in time for bed. The stories are replete with quirky characters, the occasional moral and cute (but not too cute) depictions. I'll confess that some of these rich tales do extend into the 7 or 8 minute range but you'll hardly notice.
