Kaplan 2 Real LSATs Explained

Don't bother
This book is a disappointment. I took a free Kaplan test through my school, and it was the same one in the book. Most of the stuff is pretty explanatory, and you can learn more by getting a general LSAT book (I prefer Princeton Review to Kaplan). You don't get much out of only two tests. I would get the Princeton Review LSAT book and then buy real tests from LSDAS and try to find out why I got them wrong on my own. But believe them when they tell you the LSAT is important. It really opened doors for me.

Kaplan 2 Real LSATs is a big help!
This book is essential for all prospective LSAT takers. It is superior to the LSAT Triple Prep by LSAC because it contains two real LSATs plus full explanations of each answer. The best approach is probably to use the Kaplan book first, and then use the skills you have learned with the Triple Prep tests from LSAC.

great beginner guide
This book explains all the ins and outs of computer image technology. The product overviews are a nice guide to see what you might want to purchase. The main problem is it is out-of-date on the product versions, pricing (way high in most cases) and the technology - written when a first generation Pentium was still state of the art. If they update this it would rate higher.

The Enchanted Attic
Published in Turtleback by Demco Media (February, 1995)
Author: Adele Read
Amazon base price: $9.60
Average review score:

Unoriginal and weird, but the illustrations are superb!
The best part of this book would be the ilustrations by Judith Mitchell, one of the greatest illustrators in a series known for having above-average illustrators to begin with! The idea of time/space travel through an old relative's attic is very unoriginal, having being done numerous times before in interactive fiction by: R.L Stine (in "The Golden Sword of Dragonwalk"), Ellen Kushner ("Knights of The Round Table"--actually time-travel through an old book in this one), among other examples.

In one very odd story line, you, the reader, wind up meeting your own mother at the same age you are at, at her birthday party. (???) She actually believes you when you say you're her kid, which seems implausible.

Without Mitchell's illustrations and the really cool cover design, I'd give this book 2 stars, but due to those visual factors, it earns a 3.

Great intro, fast moving, then ....
Have you ever been a part of a group so badly that you would do anything you could to hold on to your friends? This is only one of the hard-charging questions readers of Adele Griffin's Overnight will ask themselves.

Written from the perspective of the "Lucky Seven," the powerful and popular clique at Fielding Academy (an all-girls prep school) Overnight describes the consequences of keeping secrets, playing friends off of one another, group rivalries, and power grabs. After Gray Rosenfeld, a member of the Lucky Seven, disappears from a friend's birthday party, the remaining six friends make a mad dash to fill Gray's place at the same time they try to help the police and the girls' parents search for their friend.

Griffin's book has a great intro, and the chapters alternate from the perspective of each of the girls, adding a realism to the story. Readers will enjoy trying to predict what each girl is thinking and what will happen next. The book builds to a great ending that left this reader shouting "What??" 3.5 stars.

Problems on the CD-ROM
It is obvious that the authors of this book went to a lot of work to provide an excellent guide to Adobe Premiere 6.0.

Unfortunately, it appears that the quality assurance on the enclosed CD-ROM was close to zero. Specifically: a) there was supposed to be a SETUP function that would install all of the tutorial files, but there wasn't, so a manual install was necessary (no big deal), b) some files would not import into Premiere because they had the wrong extension, i.e., ".aiff" instead of ".aif" (not too big of a deal) and c) one of the tutorial files were just plain missing (kind of a big deal). This was Chapter 1. It's hard to get motivated about doing the rest of the tutorials when this was the initial experience.

After encountering these problems, I searched for a website where errata for the book was published, but I didn't find one mentioned in the book or by checking the Hungry Minds (the publisher) main website.

On the other hand, there is a chapter on putting video onto a CD-ROM and also information regarding the use of other tools such as Macromedia Director-topics that are interest to me.

Well done
Firstly, a little about myself so you can gauge how useful this review is to you; I'm new to video editing. I'm new to Adobe Premiere and I'm absolutely frustrated with other applications like Ulead VideoStudio 6 because it isn't flexible enough for me. I haven't had the pleasure of using real-time editing facilities...yet.

After having looked at the manual and then the Classroom-in-a-book series, I think this book fit the bill quite well. It explained how to perform tasks, why the tasks were performed in a particular way, alternatives to how a task could be performed and even gives ideas on how the tasks could be used in a production with sample projects.

I actually found the reading much easier going than trying to wade through Adobe's manuals. However, having said that, the book isn't light reading either. I used it by going through the book with Premiere running. Sometimes, I would skip ahead because something caught my eye.

If you have only got the manuals to go by, pick up this book written by an experienced Premiere user willing to share those experiences.

Everything I needed
Maybe some of thew other reviewers were expecting too much from this -- I dunno. For me, this Bible lived up to its name and provided me with everything I needed. I actually thought there was a lot of stuff in here that was original and definitely not included or addressed with the Adobe user's manual. The use of real-world videos, the regular presentation of alternatives for doing things, and the info on using Premiere with other software added way more depth than what was available from Adobe. My only criticism is that some of the screen shots are too dark.

Inaccuracies Abound!!!!
I have been planning on going to law school for several years and I have done a lot of research on different schools. When I read this book I was horrified. The lists of schools in each category are incomplete and often inaccurate. One of the most striking examples is one of the lists regarding the size of the city in which school's are located. The book states that Stetson University Law School is located in DeLand, Florida which the book classifies as a small town. While the main university is in fact in DeLand, the law school is in St. Petersburg over a hundred miles away, and hardly a small town. BEWARE OF THIS BOOK!!!!

Pretty interesting, but don't take too serious.
I read this one without a lot of expectation. I had already picked out my school. However, I must say that the author is right on with the information about Dallas. There is actually a skyscraper about a mile from where I live and there is a horse pasture about a mile in the other direction. I can only assume that either the author is from Dallas,TX or has done his research. For fun reading only.

Haste Makes Waste!
I think this was probably the first book on the market covering Adobe's new 6.5 version of Premiere and it's quite obvious.

Unfortunately even in the hands on "Quickstart" at the very beginning of the book there are several type-O's and incorrect wording. It's not spelling mistakes but incorrect words. As an example they tell you that you can preview the transition effect by "double-clicking the Transition icon in the Transition palette" when in fact you should double-click the Transition icon in the Timeline, NOT the Transition palette.

Additionally their numbers don't correspond when they tell you how long to make the example clips and where they should fall on the timeline.

There are several other examples just in the first few pages and for a newbie it makes following the example rather frustrating and confusing.

Since I'm only just this little bit into the book I can't say for certain if it gets better or worse or stays the same but it's very evident this book was rushed to market.

Funny enough too that even though the book is for Premiere 6.5 the CD includes a tryout version of Premiere 6.0!

There's no excuse for this kind of shoddy penmanship (typemanship??) and I highly recommend you wait for other books that are forthcoming - read: more thoroughly edited!

More words the wow......
This book is very lengthy 791 pages to be exact, it's all black and white and a lot more words then pictures, mine came with a CD which is ok. But, if your looking for an in-depth book about Photoshop 6 you have found it. I rated it a 2 because I personally like a bit more pictures and color.

One Book Too MAny
Honestly!I can't tell you how much I hate Sweet Dreams.Do I even NEED to describe th eplot to you?Ok,well this(tarty)girl(you have to call her a tart)is dating 2 boys, and falling in love with another one.

Definitely underwhelming
Boring book with a plain-looking girl on the cover. Here's the story--a girl is "in love" with two guys who are mad about her. Of course, they are two of the most popular and good-looking guys in the school. Then a third guy becomes interested in the plain girl and she must choose between all three guys who are very different. Obvious and silly. Don't bother reading it
