Quick and easy
The 4th grade at our school decided to try this book out after a writing inservice where the presenter used over half of the book for her material. I have to admit, we're only half way through the book, but the results so far have been awesome. The kids are really showing huge jumps in their writing ability. The lessons are short and sequential. Each one has blacklines to repo or make overheads. The students are really starting to see what good writing looks like, and they're doing it. My favorite part is that this isn't a textbook with pages of theories but a real usable book that an overburdened elementary teacher can pick up and start using effectively immediately.

This book solved our problem!
This book is fantastic! Our son (age 9) is extremely bright and a good reader and has always been an excellent student. Now in 3rd grade, there is an emphasis on writing in his classroom and for some reason he developed what the teacher described as a "mental block" about writing, because he didn't know how to get started. He would get anxious and upset and end up in tears, saying "I don't know what to write."

I bought a few different books to help with the challenge, and this book was by far the most valuable. It got him past his mental block. He and I do one mini-lesson each week at home, on the weekends when we are relaxed. The mini-lessons are short, focused and fun. In just a few short weeks, our son has made progress both at home and in the classroom. I even consulted with a professional tutor in our area, who said that we were on the right track by using this book - she was very impressed with it.

Thank you Adele Fiderer!

excellent
Using lively student examples, plain language and common-sense teaching, Fiderer has reduced the complex notion of leads (and attention getting sentences) to a bite sided and useful form: a chart in fact. The text is deceptively thin, yet chuck full of wonderful ideas which easily work just as well (after certain modifications) with my high school aged kids as I imagine it would with the elementary school children it was originally designed for; there is much useful material to be absorbed within this text. The author "shows" rather than "tells" how to write, teach and learn; frankly, it is difficult not to love this text and style. Her running theory seems to be have the students do and discover writing as the teacher does (with the class) the same.

excellent
Very simply, a good read. In the military, I travel a lot. I need something not too dense to relieve the discomfort of long international flights. This book is perfect -- it pulls you into a new world, removes you from the one you're sitting in and engages you for hours.

A Powerful Adventure
This historical novel was so powerful, I wouldn't put it down. It kept me on the edge of my seat with vivid description and real-life tension. Excellent work.

FASCINATING/PAGE TURNING
One of the best books I have read in a VERY long time. The storyline was wonderful. The research was fascinating. The characters are intertaining and believable. I couldn't put it down once I started it. Absolutely a must read!

Great book for leaders
I think the Emotional Intelligence Activity book is very useful for anyone who is a supervisor or manager. The activities really made me think about how I interact with my employees. I was surprised at how much I learned about my attitudes. I'm pleased to be able to recommend it to other supervisors or managers who want to improve their relationships with their staff.

Great Book!
The Emotional Intelligence Activity Book is a great book for trainers. I've used several of the exercises and have found the participants responded quite well. I especially like the notes to trainers and coaches. I found that the information was very helpful to increase my understanding of the subject.

Great Resource
I liked the Emotional Intelligence Activity book because it was so different than most of the exercise books on my shelf. I am an Executive Coach and I am often looking for material that challenges my clients. The activities in the book are characterized by difficulty which helped me to make decisions about which exercises to use with which clients. I also found the notes to the trainer and coach very useful. It deepened my understanding of what Ms. Lynn was trying to accomplish with the exercise.

The best of the best
Most people understand that the study of Scripture is an enormous task; and that there is a considerable theological heritage to even the most benign of passages. Unfortunately, it is sometimes difficult to translate that understanding into a willingness to genuinely delve into the vast pool of material out there. In addition, it's hard to know who to trust.

You can trust the New Interpreter's Bible series. All of the scholars who contributed are the best in their field. In addition, the layout (which includes two complete translations - the NIV and the NRSV) is conducive to both scholarly and spiritual study of the texts.

Each text is broken down into discret units (i.e. the Tower of Babel) followed by general commentary on the passage, verse by vers analysis of key issues, and then an overview of study questions. The commentators address issues of authorship, historical setting, translation, theological history, and personal application. In addition, they graciously point to excellent sources for further reading.

Speaking as a pastor, it is my strong opinion that every English-speaking Christian who is serious about Bible study should own the complete set.

This is an excellent resource.
My Bible study group is studying The Psalms this year. This book is wonderful. It gives two interpretations of each Psalm, NIV and NRSV. This makes it much more interesting, since you are given two versions of the poetry. The line-by-line commentaries are suitable for in-depth analysis, and the reflections are truly inspiring. I've been very impressed by this book, and I plan to read the other volumes as well.

The BEST Bible commentary available.
I can't believe that no one has written an online review of this book yet! The NIB is the best Bible commentary written. If you are serious about scholarly study of the Bible, you need to buy the entire series. It is expensive to buy 12 volumes at $60-70 each, even if you save 30% through amazon.com like I did ;). In that case, check with your church or library. As a fall-back try Harper's or Jerome's for single volume commentaries. If at all possible, buy the NIB. Forget the earlier version of the IB.

The NIB is the definitive standard for serious Bible scholarship.

Very helpful, great photos, nice tutorials on cd
I found this book very helpful in learning to use all of Painter's features effectively. It was easy to read & has lots of good photos. My only wish is that it had more accurate instructions on using the CD.

My favorite section was on the Painter pallets. It shows example pictures for each "brush" & it's variants. Sample photos also showed the various options available in the gradient box. These made it far easier to know what tool to use.

Other sections of the book covered masking, image hose use, painting & composite techniques, special effects, working with type, enhancing & outputting images, animation & web application, and using Painter with other programs.

The CD contains some good movies on making blobs, creating an image hose from a floater, building and editing floaters maps and making mosaic or patterned type. It also includes tutorials on making movies & working with color.

Fantastic!!!
It's an incredible book! A must-have for all Painter users. The book contains step by step instructions to create amazing effects seen on fully colored pictures.

The only book you need on the subject
Nothing short of a dream come true for a great lakes history or indian history students. I stumbled across this book at a local college library and was hooked. This book is put together in a clear and easy to understand format and would be a jewel in anyone's collection of great lakes or indian history. The illustrations are beautiful and the maps detailing the tribal centers and distribution are numerous, clear and very detailed. Much more than a mere atlas, this work actually seems to TEACH the reader because of the friendly and easy to comprehend writing style. Why various tribes lived where they did, where the came from and where they moved to (forcibly or otherwise), relations between tribes, how they got the names they are commonly known by today, how they lived.....As you read more and more you can actually see why the large groups of Native Americans(because of old animosities, heritage, etc.) did not band together and change history how the Americans and Europens were able to dictate terms over and over as the years went on. Never before have I come across something so complete and accurate on this subject.

Masterful work.
If you enjoy reading pre-Revolutionary history, this book will help you get your bearings. Marvelously crafted.

Wonderful...wonderful !
There are so many cross stitching books that are so similar that it is a real joy to find one that is out of the ordinary. The designs are many and for the most part are different and interesting. I bought the book this morning and I have not moved since I started looking at it. My biggest problem is deciding what will I do first. I hope that Ms. Welsby has more books!!!

Not just for cross-stitchers!
This book is a treasure trove! I confess, I do not cross-stitch. I do filet crochet, which uses thread to make lace. I have just finished creating a pattern for lace curtains for my kitchen, combining various motifs I found in this cross-stitch book. Since this book features silhouettes, few if any modifications are necessary to make the patterns work for filet. Frankly, it is a better filet collection than many filet books! And of course, I'm sure it's wonderful for cross-stitchers, too. The patterns include wonderful (and unusual) nature scenes, scenes of children at play, cross-cultural patterns, holiday patterns, borders, traditional designs, contemporary designs, and more! You can find patterns for the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty, or a scene right out of the Everglades. And of course you can mix and match motifs to make your own creation. I highly recommend this book.
