Business, Commerce, and Social Responsibility: Beyond Agenda
Published in Hardcover by Edwin Mellen Press (December, 1997)
Authors: Richard H. Reeves-Ellington and Adele Anderson
Amazon base price: $109.95
Average review score:

The book focuses on Social Responsiblity underlying commerce
Business, Commerce, and Social Responsibility is a courageous work that links culture and business in international settings. The authors examine social responsibility and ethical procedures of economic activitiese in diverse case studies and formulate theories on socially responsible organiztions in global settings. This is not a moralist book about business ethics. This book is about how to analyze and understand the social aspects of business that are contextually rich and have significant consequences in people's livesaround the world. Today all cultures are in fission and fusion, the institutional settings of economic and social power are mutating.

The case studies illustrate how business is socio-historically conditioned, and how practitioners can understand cultural dimensions of business by using anthropological research methods. The studies of Apple computer, The Body Shop, and Pharmco, for instance, examine not only the historical influence of the leaders' ! values, and the multiple meanings of managerial practice, but also the diverse voices of stakeholders, the polysemic processes of local knowledge-creation, and their dynamic relationship with larger historical and socio-political trends.

City Island and Orchard Beach

Author: Catherine Adele Scott

Average review score:

Scott Tops the Work of Terhune and Isoros!
It was said that the research of Terhune, with the courageous assistance of Isoros, was the seminal work concerning the study of the cute community of City Island. Well hold on to your hats because C. A. Scott has come to town with an exciting new approach to the study of "community" with a statistical model that is pure and honest!

The preface could have been bettor served had the Farley Messinger theory been presented with some color and less anxiety--- which is why I can only give Scott only 4 stars for her otherwise exciting book.

Managing Children's Services in the Public Library
I originally bought this as a text for a grad course and have kept this as near my desk as possible since. Fasick covers all aspects of managing library services for children in an easy-to-read, step-by-step format.

This book is useful to school media personnel as well as public librarians. A great reference for anyone who works with children in a public setting.

Bothersome Brother Drives Sister Crazy
The book I read is called My Brother the Creep by Janet Adele Bloss. This book is about a girl named Jesse who thinks she has the most annoying little brother in the world. Her little brother, Mikey, is five years old and gets to do pretty much all he wants to do. Jesse doesn't think that it's fair for her to do all the chores in her house but her parents think she should have the most responsibilities since she's the oldest child. To make matters worse, when Jesse's dad brings Mikey a surprise, their home turns into a crazy household. I think that this story is pretty good. I especially like the events that happen in the story. The illustrations were also nice. On a scale on one to ten, I rate this book a seven, because it's funny and it's fun and interesting. This is also a good book if you have a little brother or sister who seems annoying sometimes
