If you just got a Ferret this is the book for you!
As a new ferret mommy I wanted to make sure I did all my homework before bringing the little one's home. This book covers all the basics and then some and offers the author's own experiences as a ferret owner as well. Even if you are not new to ferret parenting this book is a great resource for the lifetime of your ferret. I am looking forward to anything new Deborah Jeans puts out.

UNIQUE, INVENTIVE AND CREATIVE
I have perused with great joy Jean Lubin's book for young children. As a father, grandfather and great grandfather I found Jean's work to be creative, inventive and imaginitive. A uniique teaching method and tool both for parents and Christian Education teachers. I am certain Jean's book will bless and motivate young children to learn about the Lord Jesus and themselves.

A Must Have!
This is like "My Utmost for His Highest" for children as young as three...up to around ten or so. I am so excited I finally found a devotional the kids look forward to...fun, creative, and powerful!

Learning the Bible is fun now
I am nine years old and even though my family is Christian, I didn't get alot of the stuff they tell me about in Sunday school. Now i do a page of Train up a child every night before I go to bed and i am really understanding that Jesus loves me for the first time. My little brother likes it too. This book is fun and great. You should get it.

Basking in the afterglow
When I read that Lori Flory had written a book about angels, it made my soul fly with joy and gladness. It made me realize that the world truly walks in harmony. If I go into a Burger King I realize the simplest of things: that even those hamburgers at one time had a pure soul.

But it is simply the angel I glow about. The unicorn is a bit too horny for me. But Basking in the angel's glow and caressing the hand of a gentle wind in our live's is truly the aspiration of every pure soul.

Bless Lori and her angels.

Sometimes I cannot say the words I feel about angels and spirits. It is just indescribable.

Thank you for your time. Angelically yours, Mouse Brownwyn

Thw Wisdom Teachings of Archangel Michael
In this age of rapid change and deeper psychic perception, I think this remarkable work is as spiritually and as politically correct as you can get. It teaches love, compassion, decency and getting centered in the Christ Light, a very important transaction indeed. One certainly learns their need for personal balance and growth when they read this magnanimous volume. I wish others would learn to tap this source of intrinsic love, there would be less hate and violent crime if they did. Enjoy this dear readers!

A Hallelujah Victory Book
The mighty warrior angel who bested Satan is now giving us words of hope and courage in these last days as the end of time approaches. He is a champion for Christ, indeed! I just praise the Lord for this angelic hero!

The 5 Keys to Value Investing
Published in Digital by McGraw-Hill ()
Authors: J. Dennis Jean-Jacques and J. Dennis

Average review score:

Very inviting
The Five Keys is a very interesting book. It's written a bit differently. I found it very useful in several ways. First, in its simplicity. I now use these five key factors in the research that I conduct. "The keys" is a very good framework to help me make decisions on various investment opportunities while taking on different perspectives. The book also provides powerful clues to finding great investment ideas by using ordinary publications such as Barron's or the Wall Street Journal. Third, I really enjoyed stepping inside the mind of a Wall Street guy. I felt as if I was the one working on Wall Street and having to answer tough questions myself! A little bit of drama was good (particularly in chapter one). Fourth, the author makes a strong case as to why no single valuation tool (such as P/E ratios) is superior to others when considering an investment. Lastly, the book was a short read and very inviting.

Adding value
I am a portfolio manager and I've worked with Dennis Jean-Jacques. I am very happy to see him assemble these lessons from the great investors in a simple framework. My. Jean-Jacques did a great job giving all the credit to those superb investors like Peter Lynch, Michael Price, Warren Buffett, Benjamin Graham, etc. While Mr. Jean-Jacques does not claim to be (or compare himself with) great investors in the book, he makes a solid case that the lessons of the great ones are still useful and valid today. He then goes on to simplify the lessons into these 5-key lessons as he calls it (like Ben Graham's "Margin of Safety" principle) by explaining each "key" from the vantage point of an investment analyst. That is one of the most important benefits from the book - how value analysts analyze companies starting from a company's annual report on down. After reading this book, I have gained a deeper appreciation of how the mind of a value investor works (or should work). This is not a portfolio manager's book. It is simply a solid book written from the perspective of a solid business analyst. It will be a great addition to your library.

Amazing!!!
Mr. Jean-Jacques has distinguished himself as "one of the greats" in the value investing world. Putting himself in a class w/ Buffet, Mr. Jean-Jacques has navigated the volatile world of stock market investing. He explains how not to get caught up in technical analysis or other silly investment techniques. He offers readers a golden opportunity on how he drove the investment process at Mutual Series and helped trained many of the investment professionals there, not to mention the absolute fortune he has made his investors over the years. Some people claim they are great investors, Mr. Jean-Jacques has the muscle to prove he rightfully deserves a spot in the Value Investors Hall of Fame.

Battle of the Bulge: Now and Then
Published in Hardcover by After the Battle Magazine (June, 1986)
Author: Jean Paul Pallud
Amazon base price: $84.95
Collectible price: $124.95
Average review score:

In the Footsteps of the Combatants-History Relived!
As the title states, the objective of the Then and Now series is to bring history alive for the reader and traveler. In addition to the historical text, scenes depicted in actual combat movie film or still footage from both American and German forces are studied. The place where the film was taken is identified and another photo showing what the scene looks like today is juxtaposed along side the original. If one considers the effort behind such a task, one becomes immediately appreciative of the task undertaken by Jean-Paul Pallud in this nicely produced book. As the author states on several occasions, the notes and captions accompanying the film are often in error and the actual scene could be several kilometers away from what is noted. Indeed, Mr. Pallud must know the Ardennes like the back of his hand. The patience and effort that Pallud put into this publication is immense, and in that effort we can "relive" history through these photographs. Imagine being able to stand in the same spot that a tank was destroyed or where German troops stripped dead American soldiers of their clothing and possessions! I believe the high point of this book centers around Pallud's reconstruction of the destruction of the American armored column (a unit of the ill fated 14th Cavalry Group) on the Recht-Poteau road. Pallud proves that the Germans staged various scenes for the newsreels. He lays out the placement of the various vehicles on the road, based upon only the photographic evidence. Truly a fine piece of work. This book is a must for any serious student of the "Bulge".

Wonderful Book on the Battle
The After the Battle magazine tells history by verifying the actual locations and circumstances of past incidents. The publishers have also issued a series of Then and Now volumes covering major battles of WWII. Of these, Battle of the Bulge Then and Now is generally considered the best, and nothing short of a monumental work on the Ardennes Offensive. Readers will be amazed with the amount of on-the-spot research done, as well as the general enthusiasm shown by the author. The book not only recounts historical events, but also takes the reader to the place of happening and identifies what really took place at the time. Anyone interested in military histroy must grab this one.

Guide to history
I picked this book up in Belgium prior to my self guided tours of the Ardennes. It turned out to not only be useful in reading about the history of the battle but to be critical in locating out of the way points of interest. There are many pictures in this book that were taken during the battle that the author identified the locations of. By following this virtual guide to the battle I was able to see and appreciate various unmarked spots that I might otherwise just have driven by. It is amazing how many places in the Ardennes havn't changed in over 50 years since the battle raged there. The description and histories of specific tanks that were engaged in the battle and are still resting there as memorials is also very interesting. The information the author gathered from soldiers that fought in the battle is in many cases unique and exclusive. This is a must read for a true student of WW2 history!

A fine nature read from two master storytellers
This was Jean Craighead George's first book and is, as are the majority of her eighty or so others, a masterpiece of nature writing. Originally published in 1948, the book has, thankfully, been reprinted so that it may be enjoyed by young readers once again. Ms. George also wrote DIPPER OF COPPER CREEK, also reprinted, and several other out-of-print but nonetheless wonderful nature stories, with her ex-husband John George, before going on to write such classics as MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN and the JULIE OF THE WOLVES books. The story concerns a young red fox in the woods of Maryland named Vulpes (all of the Georges' characters were named after their Latin scientific identifications) and his abilities outwit and outrun the hunters who are after him. Gorgeous wash illustrations by Ms. George herself and a spellbinding climax at the end make this a wonderful addition to any nature lore- or children's- book collection.

Jean Craighead George is brilliant!
If you love nature get all of the books Mrs.George has written. I love this book as well as all the others. Her writting relates to me, I love animals and beleive we need to express their beauty. She is my favorite author and I hope to get all of her books and read them and enjoy every moment. Her writting puts beautiful pictures in my mind. I hope to share them with others and have them enjoy these masterpeices. Vulpes is rather sad but it is still a lovely novel. She shows the hardships and better sides of being a fox. After you read this book it will enlighten you. Even if animals arent your favorite things it will show you how beautiful nature really is. If you absolutely love nature like I do you will enjoy this book just as much. Its not any ordinary book its an open feild of pleasure just like all the others she has written. Get it now and I hope you treasure it like I did and still do.

Great Novel
If you love foxes, this is the book for you. This excellent novel is about a young fox who grows up in the wild. The details are great and the story is well written. As a fox lover my self, I couldn't put this book down. This novel is great for young teenagers who want to know more about what it is like for a red fox to grow up in the wild. The great detail makes you think you are there in the story with the fox. I would read it over and over!

Antigone

Antigone
Anoulih's version of Antigone was adapted for the time in which he lived. It contains hidden symbols to, at the time, both get the book past the censors and give the french audience moral and courage to stand up to the Nazi's and follow their beliefs. The characters are adapted slightly to fit his version, ie Tieresas is left out and a nurse is introduced. He also had to adapt the personalities of the characters, for instance Antigone develops a whiny habit, and Creon is seen as a "good guy". This was also done in order to get the play by the sensors. It is a well-written play with rounder characters than the original. This version would be better read after reading the original.

It's my favorite book
Ok, I'm french and I'm VERY surprised AMAZON sells some of our books... Anyway, Antigone is my favorite story, I'll read it everyday if I could. It makes me cry everytime and it's the coolest story about life.

A good play
Jean Anouihl is a very good writer. He did an excellent job with this play. And to the person who said Antigone was selfish, she is not selfish, why would the author paint his hero to be selfish?

A favorite book that I never forgot...
I read this book when I was in 6th grade (the main character is about 11 years old). It was always a book I remembered by name even after twenty years! That's quite a long time for a book to leave an impression. Its a great read for ages 10 and up and I would recommend reading it again as an adult.

Beloved Benjamin
I read this book when i was in the 3rd grade and i am now going into the 8th. I can barely remember any of it except for what happens in the end. I remember thinking it was the best book I had ever read and being so surprised at the end. I was so sad when it was all over. I recommend this book for anyone.

One of the best children's books ever
I read the book when I was in the 5th grade. Just like the other reviewer stated, I too remembered it for the next 20 years. I decided to pick up a copy and reread it about 3 years ago and was so happy to find it in the library of an elementary school I was doing a residency at. I feel any child would certainly enjoy the book and many would find a personal connection with the little girl who is the main character as she is going through some family problems that many children experience. I highly recommend this book to adults as well as children.

Great for adoptees looking to find out more
I am an adoptee and I'm currently in a stage of my life where I'm becoming more curious to find out about my birthmother and my background. I was kind of scared and didn't really know where to start, but this book really helped me to realize that I CAN do something about it and that it's really nothing to be scared of. It gave me the perspective of the birthmother as well, wanting to know about the daughter she gave up. I have a feeling that when the time comes to contact my birthmother, she'll be more receptive than not - something I was very unsure of before I read this book. Jean Strauss and her book have kind of helped me to get the ball rolling and start seriously thinking about contacting my birthmother.

Five oars for Jean Strauss
If "beneath a tall tree" doesn't tug at your heart and bring tears to your eyes, go see your doctor for a checkup. Strauss bares her soul in this fascinating adventure about her life. Besides being enormously helpful to adoptees, it provides a deep, raw look into the mindset of an adoptee. Her fluid style makes this an easy read.

Beneath a tall tree
Having recently been involved in a reunion with a sister that we did not know existed, this book (as well as other Jean Strauss books) gives valuable insight into the feelings of the adopted individual as well as some of the feelings of the other members of the family circle. Jean's struggle and sometimes blunt feelings toward her birth mother open up a new area of human feeling. How should we relate to this new person in our life and all these new relatives? All the details of the reunion and building a new relationship with siblings and her mother over the years gives valuable knowledge to others involved in their own reunion process. Jean shows us that a "blended" family can happen. She has not forgotten her adoptive family that raised her, but she also appreicates the family ties of her natural family. This book illustrates that you can have more than one mother/father. You can have many siblings and extended family and make it all work. We have done this in our family situation. This book is well worth the read. I highly recommend it to anyone in the reunion/adoption process.

Biochemical Tests for Identification of Medical Bacteria

a lot of facts - concise but not flawless
This book gives a concise and very systematic overview of the tools for biochemical determination of bacteria. All commonly used tests are discussed, common combinations of individual tests are also described. For each test there is a chapter on the purpose, the biochemical background, the necessary reagents, the interpretation of test results and precautions.

The enormous amount of data, however, comes at the expense of readability. Sometimes the chapters are repertitious and appear to be a succession of quotes and facts from different sources. Moreover, the book contains a few sloppy mistakes ("the periplasmic space of staphylococci", for instance) in the background information.

Altogether, a concise reference book on the background and use of biochemical tests but not flawless in the sense of readability and circumstantial information.

Best in the field
The absolute best reference in my opinion for anyone in microbiology.

Outstanding Teaching Aid!
This is an outstanding resource for the educator and for laboratory personnel. My lab would be incomplete without it. I plan to order several copies to use in my laboratory class. The book is well organized, highly detailed and comprehensive. With the focus on molecular microbiology today, many scientists have forgotten or never learned most of the information covered in this book. Such information is increasingly difficult to find since it is buried in the older scientific literature.
