Great Companion to DVD
This is the actual script from the original stage play. It is VERY helpful in sorting through some of the SE London accents and slang in the movie. There are scenes and dialogue that are not in the movie that give further background to the story and character development. A GREAT love story. A MUST READ.

5 times in 4 days
I received this video for Christmas and have fallen for it deeply. I've watched 'Beautiful Thing' every day -- I can't get enough of it. The story is honest, down-to-earth and very, very funny. Jamie and Ste will steal your heart!

what a beautiful thing
I first found this film in local library and fell in love with it. It is a simple and honest love story, I laughed and I cried all the way through it, I have also performed in the play as the main character Jamie.

Wow!!!
This is a must have for anyone with stress. I was so stressed I couldn't poop. While practicing what I leaned in this book I was so relaxed I pooped my pants.

life enchancing resource
John Harvey doesn't just write about how to use relaxation skills effectively -- he successfully conveys the meaning behind these skills so that the reader can connect with the concepts behind the techniques. This book is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking balance and equilibrium in their lives; it's clear that Dr. Harvey practices what he preaches; as a clinical psychologist I have recommended this book to many of my clients and have used it as a reference in the classes I teach and the groups I facilitate on anxiety and stress management. The CD is also a real bonus; clients often ask for tapes of guided practices, and this CD meets the need for many people just starting out with these practices and needing both a calming voice, and a voice of experience like Dr. Harvey's, to help them establish their own internal voice of total relaxation.

Be Cool, You Can, Now.
Not only this book is good looking, but it is amazingly easy and practical.

Clearly explain how to play with different top of the top relaxation methods in less than a couple of minutes.

Riviting and Suspenseful!
I loved this book. It is a page turner from the front to back. As a person who hasn't been a fan or this genre - this book sold me back into reading more fiction!

Harvey does an amazing job. Steven King watch out!

BUY This book. You will love it.

One of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time.
What an incredible introduction to a new author. THE CLEANSING is easily one of the best, most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. Not since King's THE STAND have I been so unhappy about finishing a novel. It was a joy to read from the opening paragraph until the last page. At times horrific, intriguing and endearing, it grabs your full attention and never lets go. Each of John D. Harvey's characters, both major and minor, are multi-dimensional and unique with their own distinct voices. The reader will even find themselves empathizing with the villain in this book, a preternatural wolf named Wanata, who not only wreaks terror wherever he goes but is, himself, struggling with his own crises. Don't let the cover price keep you from grabbing this one! You won't be disappointed.

A dramatic and exciting supernatural showdown
The Cleansing by John D. Harvey is an imaginative, original, and superbly crafted saga about an American Indian wolf god who comes to Earth to punish humanity for its abuse of nature. A murderous wolfpack begins to exterminate entire villages, until an Indian shaman turns the wolf god into human form, leaving him to interact with the people he sought to punish while struggling to maintain control of his pack. A dramatic and exciting supernatural showdown, The Cleansing documents John Harvey as a truly gifted writer and storyteller, and is enthusiastically recommended reading for fantasy fiction enthusiasts.

The Spanish Book I Can't Live Without
We have a Latin American person living in our home now who only speaks Spanish, and I have taught myself how to "converse" in Spanish in just over a month, thanks to this book and the cassette tapes. I have checked out many Spanish books at the library, but none gets to the heart of conversation like Household Spanish does. The introduction of vocabulary is useful and gradual, and the presentation of verb conjugation comes at just the right speed. To complement this quick-start book, I have purchased a Spanish/English dictionary and a workbook for reinforcement. With this combination, I can say almost anything, but it helps if your Spanish speaker is very patient!

An instant vocabulary builder of terminology in the home!
This mini dictionary focuses on "household terms in Spanish". Don't expect anything more or less. The book is divided into seven chapters each with thematic vocabulary. Within each section there are mini sections that focus on cultural themes (temas culturales), a review of what has been taught (repasemos), key words (palabras claves), to name a few sections. There is a pronunciation guide in brackets beside every word but I don't think it would be helpful if you are a true beginner in Spanish. I believe that sounds and phonetics need to be taught to ensure correct pronunciation and accentuation. I found the vocabulary to be interesting at times but there are so many ways in Spanish to say a word it just depends where a person is from but I think that Barron's tried to use the most generic word at all times. I really believe the book is good if you want to learn some Spanish vocabulary without having to worry about grammar and sentences etc. If you decide to purchase this book you will instantly increase your vocabulary and most of all know how to say everyday household terms in Spanish. This is a fun resource for learning Spanish vocabulary.

Household Spanish
Best Spanish/English book of its kind. I'm recommending it for our local police department (where I work.)

Profound
I found this book in my mother's library when I was in High School. I read it on my own and found it hard to put down. 16 years later I find that this book had a profound affect on my who I am and where I am in my life. This book and my hard work, have definetly raised my conciousness level and the responsibility I hold for my own life. Alot of the same teachings found in Castenada's or Ruiz's books are similar.

Head books
Jerr calls them "head books." He had borrowed this title from a friend three times then he bought his own copy. Then he bought one for each of our sons. Then he bought one for his best friend. Focusing on the "book's content" isn't possible. Reading it will focus you on a lot of things.

Mind Magic
THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ ON THE POWER OF THE MIND AND THE PSYCHE. Besides Bill Is this really "COOL" dude. YOU KNOW......

Not Bad, With Some Good Information
I found this book very useful for teaching reading in my small groups. The authors give some good ideas for classroom teachers to use "authentic literature" in order to teach reading comprehension which can include newspapers and magazines. The appendices are worth the price of the book. The only reason I downgraded it a bit is the authors could have done away with some of the whole language rhetoric about traditional basals and basic skills being "boring." This is nonsensical and detracts somewhat from the general usefulness of the book.

Great support for literacy instruction!
This is the best book I have yet read on teaching reading to middle and upper grades. If you are new to balanced literacy, this is a must-have! Even experienced teachers will find it to be a useful resource book. It is filled with strategies that will help you go from whole-class novel studies or basals into smaller, guided reading groups. This book goes beyond Mosaic of Thought to give wonderfully explicit details on strategies you can use in your classroom. I heartily recommend it to middle and upper grade teachers.

"Yes, this one is worth the time!"
Elemenatary teachers: READ THIS BOOK! I know, I know! ANOTHER book about teaching strategies! Haven't we (as teachers) read enough? The answer is no if you want to improve/create your reading program! I have taught 6th grade for 7 years and I was always unhappy with my reading programs. To add to my frustration, I began to support new teachers in the BTSA program who desperatly needed my help in creating an effective reading program for their classroom. Fortunately, my school decided to reorganize our instruction to focus on Guided Reading. That is when I found this book! Strategies that work is not just another list of strategies that need to be taught. It SHOWS you how to plan and implement lessons that will engage children and teach reading comprehension strategies. My favorite chapter was 8 beacuse it specifically dealt with inferring and this is an important piece for 6th graders in reading and writing. Don't worry - it's an easy read that IS worth your time. Don't let the title lull you into thinking it is just another "teacher text". Side Bar: Try to read it with another teacher, the discussions you will have will be invaluable!!!

Way to Go
BJ Hateley has certainly tagged the basics for what really counts in customer service. Having just returned from a tour of Italy where I experienced first hand the extraordinary professionalism and pride that constitutes "European service" I know exactly what Hateley is talking about and the difference it makes to the customer. The difference between real caring and "acting like you care" is all the difference in the world. This is a great funny little book with very well taken points.

Big Ideas in a Small Space
Providing excellent customer service is like the weather -- everybody talks about it, but nobody seems to do anything about it. BJ Hately and Eric Harvey have! Here's a great little book that's perfect for kicking off, or re-invigorating, a customer service program at any kind of business. It's short and simple, but that's what makes it so effective for all levels.

B.J. Hateley teaches us how to Walk that Talk
Having just read "customer at the Crossroads I can attest that, despite its light hearted, comical approach and its lack of heft in terms of physical sixe it should become required reading for anyone in the customer service business.

Ms. Hately and Eric Harvey have put this whole business into a perspective very rarely achieved in books ten times the size. "Customer at the Crossroads" is fun to read and comes complete with the type of nuggets of information that B.J. Hately is best know for from her other publications.

We have all worked in organizations where people neglected to take ownership of their customers and consequently failed to "Walk the Talk". This book will help anyone who serves someone else for a living to gain new understanding on how to get, and keep, a customer for life.

I look forward to future publications from this duo.

Spanish/English language learning
I was glad to find this book and Inglés Para Latinos to use as the vocabulary for our class of partners who help each other learn English and Spanish. (and their second levels for the more advanced speakers.) I've developed lesson plans that coordinate the 2 books and give practice (because the books are nearly all vocabulary.) The students like the encouraging tapes and the easy explanations in their own language of the meanings. And they want copies for their friends.

Funny AND useful -- similar style to the video version
The book is very funny yet informative, making it an easy read for the beginner. The video version (also published by Barron's) runs along similar lines, but with the added benefit of being able to see Bill Harvey in action.

Excellante
I brought this book to help me brush up on my Spanish. I spoke a little before I brought the book. I am a Cuban / Dominican that was born in the States and never really learned Spanish. This text helpped me like no other. What is great about this text is that it also give you words specific for different countries. The author gave words that are used in Cuba and Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. I highly Recommend this book to anyone first pass at learning Spanish.

Sun Sign, Moon Sign
I call this the Book of Forgiveness and now teach a workshop dedicated to teaching its principles. As a therapist, bla, de, bla de bla, I came up short in understanding relationships, particularly my own. I hate paradigms and boxes but this book provides a new way of thinking about people that helps them understand themsleves and others and why they fall into the same relationship over and over again.

Best Book on Sun / Moon sign combinations
Contents summary: Interprets all 144 combinations of Sun and Moon sign in the birth chart separately (420pp). Introduction, including discussion of the Sun, Moon and the elements (46pp). Tables of precise Sun and Moon sign change times, and time zone corrections (96pp).

Charles Harvey, a leading astrological scholar of the later 20th century, died a couple of years ago aged not far from 60, but left behind this modern masterpiece of properly researched basic natal astrology, which originates in the study of real people and draws as much detail out of each of the 144 Sun/Moon combinations as could be hoped for. The interpretations are each substantial in length but concise and packed with observational detail, building very significantly on Grant Lewi's pioneering treatment of the combinations from the 1940s. They inevitably round people up and sometimes typecast the extreme manifestations of each combination a little over-assuredly. They are of course subject to the modifying influence of non-Sun/Moon sign factors in the birth chart, but they come as close as they can given their scope. Indispensable reference book.

It is my bible
I bought this book four years ago. It is now being held together by a rubberband. Everytime I discover someones Moon I'm astonished, the only person's moon I hve trouble figuring is my own. Every few months I have to read it to see if I really understand it, but with almost everyone else I got them pegged. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

Not a textbook for would-be adepts...
I rate this classic in Christian Mysticism not for what it is or says but what it is not and certainly does not say. First of all it is not a Jungian mythology text nor does it have anything in common with works by(the likes of)Joseph Campbell who was an avowed and proud atheist. Studying works...often profound as they are...of Mircea Eliade will construct and fortify the very obstacles that obscure/prevent radical Grace Experience Otto terms "The Mysterium Tremendum". Would-be adepts are often quick to criticize theological genius of(a)saint-like Thomas Aquinas. Yet conveniently they forget he himself dismissed The SUMMA as little more than preparatory Guide for sincere faith desperately in need of REASON's crutch(from Crux). Medieval theologians often taxed the would-be Pure of Heart with a nominalist/semantic riddle: God was NO-THING...therefore totally beyond knowledge categories and expressible human experience. So what? Ants have no categories for "religious" illumination regarding humanity nor individuals. Yet the realities are; sometimes they CROSS paths. The point: Otto's book is not a place to begin. (Maybe a term in prison; a tour of combat; or a long isolation among uncorrupted children might do). St. John of the Cross' DARK NIGHT
OF THE SOUL might do because it may just discourage foolish meddling about where "angels fear to tread." Is this a warning? Of course.

Padre Pio was stigmatist who spent most of his life hearing Confession(ie: ministering to the reality of Sin). And celebrating ultimate Christian Mystery:HOLY MASS-- where Christ --LOGOS and Second Hypostasis of the Divinely Revealed Trinune God--humbly "empties" Himself into simplest signs of Bread & Wine to COMMUNicate not merely the Idea of the Holy, but Holiness (Himself).Protestants deny this. Many would-be gnostics defy it in absurd paradox of desiring...like Eve...fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil; rather than of Life. Mother Theresa was undoubtedly a mystic. She said...to my knowledge...little about "numenous"experiences, because she was too busy (ad)ministering moments of Grace to destitute poor. However: she is said to have said she could see the Face of Christ in these otherwise abandoned. Is this MYSTERIUM TREMENDOM at its most ironic, absurd and True? Again: Otto's book is what it is. Don't forget what it isn't, or shouldn't be......

stop the presses
For those of us in professional ministry and studying in seminary, we spend an inordinate amount of time focusing on the rational element in religion- we can't seem to avoid it in the West. But no amount of Aquinas will ever serve to explain the true meaning of religious experience. Reading Aquinas is like studying a technical manual of spirituality- it destroys the very meaning of it. Otto writes a brief work here outlining the main points of his theory- that religion can't be understood and never can be as an empirical study- it is beyond our sense horizon. Religion is to be savored, felt- not thought about or deconstructed, like, taking an engine apart. What Otto, in other words, tries to do is to, rather than studying how a flower produces a pleasing scent and how we perceive it, says STOP and just smell the rose- and you'll understand in an instant. As a Lutheran, he understands Catholic sacramental theology very well-that a sacrament is an outward sign of an inner grace or reality, and that signs and symbols work hand in hand- a sign points to a reality ahead, like a clap of thunder signifies a storm. A symbol conveys within itself the very reality it is expressing- for example, perhaps the greatest being a kiss between husband and wife- the reality is perfectly conveyed in the symbolic action itself, without further clarification. THAT is experience, true spirituality, what he means by the numinous, as applied. It is thus existential. Too much wasted time and energy could be spared by reading this classic. Five years of theology could be distilled to the contents of this book, perhaps the most influential book one can read in seminary. Do yourself a favor and get it!!

A Revelation...
Living as we do in an age where religion in general (and Christianity specifically) has been largely co-opted by those who consider it to be "morality touched with emotion", "The Idea of the Holy" offers a alternative view towards religion and spirituality. Otto introduces a way of approaching the subject that avoids the twin traps of emotion and intellect, allowing us to understand "religious feeling" as a phenomenon all it's own, as a "sense' with its own attributes.

For those who can (through scholarship or patience) penetrate the sometimes dense and dated prose, this book has the potential to remove the debris of thousands of years of so-called theology and philosophy and to find the experience of God without intermediaries. It is indeed, a revelation.
