Outstanding. A Breakthrough Book
Congradulations to Wang Yang and Jon Sandifer for writing a clear, user-friendly book on classic and powerful I Ching prediciton methods. This is the first book that allows the western to apply these methods immediately. This is an outstanding book, revealing professional level I Ching divination and theory. I recommend this book to anybody interested in Taoist Arts and Chinese Metaphysics.

This is the best book in English on this topic.

Backed Against the Sea (Cornell East Asia Series, No 67)
Published in Hardcover by Cornell Univ (1993)
Authors: Wang Wen-Hsing, Edward Gunn, and Wen-Hsing Wang
Amazon base price: $24.00
Average review score:

Excellent example of experimental fiction.
I read this book in a class on Modern Chinese Literature, and it was the best book in the class. Truthfully, it was not for everyone. I know at least one member of the class who found the style daunting and difficult to swallow. But I loved it. Wang is a professor in Taiwan of modern European literature, and it shows. Traces of many modernist and post-modernist techniques show up in Backed Against the Sea, as well as a complex take on things uniqulely Chinese and Taiwanese. If you like Chinese fiction, European modernism and/or post-modernism, I highly recommend this book. It is not an easy read, but I find it well worth the pleasure

Fine Book on Fine Furniture
BEYOND THE SCREEN is an apt title; it describes this book both literally and metaphorically. Nancy Berliner and fourcontributing writers dissect both the life and furniture of sixtheen and seventeenth China in a work that combines art, craft and social history. My husband, an amateur woodworker, was fascinated with descriptions of workmanship and digrams of joinery. I preferred the sections that talked about the people -- both the craftsmen (usually anonymous) that made the furniture and the elite who commissioned it. But the focus point of the book is undoubtedly the photographs of the furniture itself -- some pieces which are classically simple, others that are intricately carved. Berliner comments at length on each piece. For collectors of antique Chinese furniture -- or reproductions -- this book is an absolute must-have. It gives the story behind the craft and makes sitting down so much more interesting!

Perfection
This book is pure perfection, period. It is quite easy to understand for the novice analytical chemist. Dr. Wang simplifies very technical, difficult information -- into something easily comprehended by a person of average intelligence. I look forward to his next publication.

wonderfully strange and exotic
Exciting stuff. Truly cosmic poetry, about space, consciousness, existence, cosmology, the universe, love, men, women, flirting, babies, birds, fish, Martians, music, exotic dancers, growing up in China, travelling around the world, and everything in between.

What a rush. I was alternately astounded, shocked, confused, frightened, awed, amused, and delighted, by the very intelligent poetry in this book.

Finally, a Chinese cookbook that works!
D. Wang presents all of those favorite recipes in an incredibly workable style. A few of Wangs techniques apply to all of my efforts at reproducing restaurant dishes. The only crime is finding this book for my own shelves rather than checking it out of the library every week
