Pure Disch : Horror, humor, and tight writing
I have been a fan of Thomas Disch for some time, and with this book I got exactly what I wanted. The horror element was not what caught me, nor was the humor. It was Disch's tight, tight, tight storytelling that made this book so amazing to me.Disch has a way of spinning so many different threads out, and then reeling them in to a finely resolution. If you like horror, humor, social farce and a really well woven story, this is for you

An excellent complilation on primate behavior
Many interesting and readable chapters discussing numerous aspects of primate social life. There is one chapter for virtually every primate genus, and many more general chapters as well. As an actuary, I especially enjoyed the chapter on the demography of certain primate populations, particularly rhesus macaques.

Ultimate Sports
Did you ever think a man could throw another for over 30 feet? This happened in Sports Stories by Lester Schulman. This book has several short stories about people in sports. My favorite one was titled You Can Look It Up. This story was about a player that could not fit in with his teammates. He didn't hit the ball well and each time he went up to bat he struck out which made the team angry. This story and more will keep you busy reading about sports.
What I like about this book is that it tells about sports. I like sports also, and play baseball myself, so it was a perfect match for me. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 10 and recommend it to anyone that likes to play sports.

I think the author's purpose for writing this book was to prove to people that they can do anything they want to if they just try their hardest.

Excellent!
Reflections of South Carolina gives an excellent glimpse into all that is South Carolina. Photographs range from the beautiful beaches along the coast to college campuses and the biggest cities to the smallest counties throughout the state. The photographs by Robert Clark are exquisite and make you feel as if you are a part of them. You do not have to be a South Carolina native - I'm not!- to appeciate this book. Makes a wonderful gift to anyone who loves this state.

An excellent book for a resident
I just graduated from medical school and trying to become an Ophthalmologist. Since I am not an English speaking person, it is difficult to get informations in English. However, each sections and chapters of this book is well organized and helps me to get accustomed to the medical terms in Ophthalmology. This book is easier to understand than the text books written in Japanese (I am a Japanese).

Crisis Theory Repudiated
This historically-grounded sociological study attempts nothing less than a general theory of religious movements. Supported by inventive statistical research into antebellum revivalism, Thomas argues that in times of cultural change, the more a movement is similar with the surrounding socioeconomic culture, the more people it can mobilize in support. Consequently, he rejects "crisis-theories" that maintain antebellum revivalism was merely a response to dramatic socioeconomic change. Rather, antebellum revivalism was successful because it had a high degree of similarity with the new socioeconomic order. Ultimately, he offers a model of social organization that does not require every human motivation be reduced to material self-interest. Thomas's insights into antebellum revivalism are convincing, and his work deserves more attention than it has received in the historiography of antebellum reform. I recommend this work to students of antebellum religious history and the sociology of religion.

Russians Trusting Russians
Tom Nichols book is a wonderfully challenging but comfortably readable analysis of the role of presidentialism in holding together Russia's fragile democracy. He provides enough background for capable but untutored readers like myself to understand his thesis, but never so much that you feel like you're in an introductory course. Read the footnotes. The long ones not only contribute to a lay reader's overall understanding of the subject, but on occasion are downright funny. A wonderful book.

Amazing story of love and adventure
I loved this book from the opening paragraph. MASH meets Gilligan's Island! Hot lips Hoolahan gets even the professor all steamed up, and Hawkeye can't leave MaryAnne or Ginger alone. The antics of Klinger and Gilligan, combined with the power struggle between the Skipper and Col. Potter, make for non-stop laughs. Finally Charles finds someone to talk with in Thirsten Howell. But when the casualties start rolling in, it is all business for the folks of the 4077th and the crew of the Minnow. With Radar's help will the professor be able to repair the radio? Will the war ever end? Will they ever get off the island? God, I hope not!

A life changer
I attended a week long retreat where we used this book as a guide. I am not a very religious person at all, but this book changed my life. Merton challenges us to die to our false selves, to open our hearts to God and to accept contemplation of the mystery of God and his creations as the center of our lives. As an introduction to Merton and as a daily spiritual guide, this book is priceless.

As a textbook
I use this text for basic and advanced courses at RIT. This book explains the multiple systems on modern offset lithographic presses. It is usually clear and concise (except its explaination of the many possible dampening systems is confusing). The diagrams and photographs are very helpful.
This book is appropiate for the layman or seasoned pressman looking for how the machine works. It does not tell one how to make the machine work or replace the manufacturers operation manual.
