A must for Financial fiction fans
Hanover Place was the first Michael Thomas novel that I read and it made me fan for life. Financial oriented fiction is an underappreciated subject for writers, but amongst the few Michael Thomas is without a doubt the best. Its the only novel I've found that propels the reader through the evolution of Wall Street at the turn of the 20th century to the modern era. Its the best of Thomas's works and a mainstay in my library.

Excellent, but not really a financial thriller
This is more of a financial saga than a thriller. It's light on the technical details, heavy on the personalities. Thomas is very engaging, wry and humorous in the way he sizes up all the players and their motives.

Yes, it's out of print, but you should be able to find it used somewhere,

*complete* and a good read!
you wouldn't think heartburn could be an interesting subject but this book was very readable. the information is easily understood and very complete. advice is given for all stages and conditions. i was burping 500-1000 times a day and frequently had chest pain unlike any heartburn i had known. i had seen a report on tv that got me thinking about heartburn and this was the one heartburn book in our library. the advice given prompted me to try an over the counter h2 blocker (pepcid ac) and the symptoms reduced dramatically almost immediately! but because the symptoms were not eliminated and indicate ulceration's, i am planning a trip to the doctor seeking a prescription for prilosec so my ulceration's can heal completely. i learned acid reflux can cause a host of problems with or without the accompanying symptom of heartburn and that life threatening ulceration's can develop with no symptoms whatsoever! the knowledge in this book should be useful to everyone at some point in their life and a god send to those suffering from acid reflux.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Heisey Glass 1896-1957 is indeed a thing of beauty suitable for display in your home as well as a wonderful reference book. I found this book to be very easy to understand. I am a novice Heisey collector and was able to learn a lot from the pictures and descriptions in the book. The color pictures are very well presented. The black and white photos, catalog pages and other renderings are of good quality and easy to interpret. One thing I particularly like is that there are several ways to cross-reference the glass. The book covers Heisey Glass by decade so you can look up the period of time and see what was made during that period. Each pattern is listed by name, the time period, colors, comments and photos, catalog pages or line drawings and a price guide. There is also an alphabetical index.

I thought this book was excellent in its content and presentation. It exceeded my expectations based on other books I have read by Tom and Neila Bredehoft. Well done! I will be looking for more books like this in the future.

Helps for the Scrupulous

A healing book
This is an excellent and healing book by a holy priest, which should not have gone out of print. It describes how excessive fear caused by neurological, emotional or medical problems can distort a person's religious life until he or she thinks almost anything is a sin. But better yet, it describes how a person can, with help, get out of this situation and reclaim a healthy faith life.

The Henderson Site Burials: Glimpses of a Late Prehistoric Population in the Pecos Valley (Technical Reports, No 18)

Hard to find
Anyone looking for information on primative burials in the southwest knows how hard this information is to come by. I was glad to see an actual archaeological dig written up so well. The pictures are equally interesting in showing positions of the bodies and possibly the significance of such. Although the dig site is in New Mexico and occupied in the 1300's it was especially interesting to see that in one burial, there was a "cache" of points that were of Texas origin AND from the Archaic time frame. The book also includes tons of charts and graphs for the very serious archaeologists out there.

Sasse: A Man for our Times!
Sasse is important not only because he is a famous Lutheran theologian who was around during Nazi Germany. More important, as this book demonstrates, the residual influence this man had upon his students and their students with the adapt theology of this great Christian.

Sasse was such an astute man of the history of the Christian church, and at the same time, an excellent exegete. His thought process is profound and succinct. Almost at times like the apostle John, appearing simple in sentence structure and vocabulary, yet profound when you begin to unpack each word with its depth and richness of meaning.

In this volume are the speeches of the Sasse conference by his students, i.e. Nagel, Feuerhahan, Kleinig, Marquart, Hardt. Also, other contributors influenced by Sasse contribute to this volume.

The contents are rich and vibrant with the substance of theology. Besides commentary of Sasse's life and writings, articles include: his relationship with the Third Reich, on worship, the confessing apostolic and catholic church, his reaction and interaction with Barth and natural theology, the mystery of sacred scripture, and his relationship with Rome.

From Sasse's own words come this admonition to the church: "When does the church exert its greatest influence in the world? When it is the church, wholly church and nothing else! When it brings its message which is alien to this world, to a world which wants to know nothing of it."

A great book about a great man written by a genious
Is there anything else to say? Karl the 12th of Sweden is a fascinating man with history to match. Voltaire's prose reads like a great fictional novel and provides philisophical insight into the times and life of Sweden's greatest king.
