MAKES ME WISH FOR 'THE GOOD OLD DAYS'
Pat Weaver is not as famous as he should be. He's the man who created the 'magazine concept' type of television advertising that we know today. Had he not done this television would have taken a completely different path. Weaver gives us the gossip about David Sarnoff and many others who were resposible for the birth of broadcast media in America. The book is too simply written at times, almost childlike, but really, that's okay because it's a nice 'mind-candy' way to get a great lesson in media history.

A Sound Attack on the Middle-Class Myth
The arguement that the past thirty years have resulted in a closing of the gap between whites and blacks seems untenable after reading this book. Using wealth instead of income as a measure of success and progress, Oliver and Shapiro argue that glaring inequalities still exist and may actually be growing. Moreover, since creating wealth is far more difficult when one has none to begin, the authors argue that such inequalities are sure to continue unless significant changes are made to the social safety net. These premises certainly call into question the notion of a vibrant black middle class.
Overall, I found the book to be scholarly, yet accessible to those who don't hold a Ph.D. in research methodology. The information was nicely balanced; the interviews complemented the extensive survey data and everything was clearly presented. My only complaint is that the statistical information was not presented in the appendix with the tables. This would have been useful and meaningful to academics reading the book. That being said, the thesis is a profound one, and for all those with an interest in social equity and social policy this is a must-read.

With numerous color photographs of ancient artifacts
Body Symbolism In The Bible by biblical scholars and specialists Thomas Staubli and Silvia Schroer is a scholarly, college-level study of the body parts used as symbol and metaphor in the old testament. Enlivened with numerous color photographs of ancient artifacts, individual chapters cover theological anthropology, with various sections focusing on specific body parts and their recurring Biblical mention, including feet, eyes, ears, heart, throat, and more. A fascinating and exhaustively researched study, Body Symbolism In The Bible is a strongly recommended addition to academic Biblical Studies supplemental reading lists and reference collections.

Caring & Objective Author
Considering I've had the good fortune of sitting in one of Prof. Leonard's classes I'm confidant to say that the details of this text are throughly researched and credible. This man cares mightily for the people of the U.S., Caribbean, Central & South America and understands the social, cultural, religious and revolutionary political influences that continue to transform the region. This book is a good investment in ones education about the Castro Revolution.

A Much Needed, Fascinating Book
For veterinary technicians and their professors, this book is a gift. It not only teaches the basics of anatomy and physiology but covers comparative domestic animal anatomy as well. No longer will the vet tech have to depend on human anatomy texts or buy expensive, huge volumes on each separate animal. The book is beautifully written and distills complex, large topics into simple manageable material. For veterinarians, the book is a great way to quickly review anatomy of all the species. For the nonprofessional reader, it would be a fascinating look at how animals are the same and yet different. The diagrams alone are worth the purchase.
