author's review
The purpose of this book is to show how patients, working with their families and physicians, can greatly reduce suffering at the end of life. Despite a desire not to linger while dying, many patients suffer because of excessive treatments that only prolong the dying phase. Even very knowledgeable patients and their families are unprepared to make decisions necessary to reduce end-of-life suffering because they are not emotionally or spiritually prepared to accept the inevitability of dying, and they don't know how to gain control over what is happening to them. This book is written as a guide to dying on your own terms through advance planning to limit futile and painful treatments and to obtain good relief of symptoms. You can't just do it at the end-you have to be prepared well in advance. It takes some work-mostly learning how to deal with doctors and your family-but it will help you to peaceful dying when the time comes. This book tells you how.

A solid discussion on Centering Prayer
Fr. Keating and others provide excellent guidance on the method of Centering Prayer. This book teaches you how to focus your prayer life on the God within. The God who is waiting for us to join him at the very center of our being. The God who is whispering on the gentle breeze, calling for us to commune with Him. The importance of making time in this busy world to be still and listen for God's whisper is critical if one is to follow the divine path that God has mapped out for us. This book will show you how to use this powerful prayer method to bring about inner and outter peace and comfort to your life

Incredible Diversity Documented with Beautiful Pictures
Even as the Clinton presidency draws to a close, Arkansas remains the undiscovered state. Fishes of Arkansas is a visual treat--a species by species documentation of the incredible diversity of freshwater fish found in that state's streams and waterways. Arkansas is an inland state, so one might imagine that a fish survey would document only a narrow array of green and brown game fish, of little interest to those outside the bait and hook hobbies. Fishes of Arkansas demonstrates instead the incredible biodiversity found in the numerous fish species located in Arkansas. Here are pictures of gorgeous fish, large and small, including many of intense beauty and tremendous color. The darter section of the book, featuring many species endemic not only to Arkansas but in many cases to a single river in Arkansas, shows the reader spectacular, unforgettable fish. The narrative is simple and straightforward--each entry is a separate species, usually with a picture. The grouping is organized by family, and the authors provide judicious use of light explanatory and summation material to tie the individual entries together. If you need something on your coffee table or shelves which is light, pleasant picture-filled reading but not fluff, try Fishes of Arkansas.

It helps you understand the importance of forgiveness.
It is one of the best that I have ever read. I never really had a problem with forgiveness. However, as I began to reevaluate my life, I found that there were persons that when I thought of them, the memories were not a memory of forgiveness. I had to revaluate and ask forgiveness for a number of persons. I have shared this book with a number of persons and we are hoping to use this book as a guide for our Summer quarter's Sunday School study. The real key is to love again. It is a consolation to know that it is possible.

THE Architect for Victorians
Obviously you enjoy architecture or you wouldn't be thinking of reading a review of this book. Think no further, buy the book. Frank Furness has been overlooked way too long and this book shows why in pictures and a nice overview of text why this mans work, and what is left of it, should be escalated to the heights of the finest.

clarity! a welcome change
this book includes one of the most helpful accounts of the connection between the 'social contract'and the 'second discourse'in rousseau's philosophy that i've ever read. hoffman is clear and to the point, but manages, at the same time, to bring up original and insightful points about the rousseauian project. i highly recommend it.

Outstanding explanation personality types in spiritual terms
This book presents an outstanding understanding of the personality types including psychosocial development. It correlates Jungian personality types (and Meyers-Briggs Type Indicators) to a spiritual and biblical context to help us in our journey toward wholeness. This is an excellent resource for personal growth as well as retreat material. I am a psychotherapist and a spiritual director. I have used it for many years with my directees to help them better understand themselves in relationship to God, scripture, and their spiritual growth.

Frontiers and Catholic Identities
This volume is one of a nine-volume series that makes accessible the rich variety of American Catholic experience from the earliest years to the present. Attending to the documentary history of Catholic experience on the frontiers and diverse regional developments in America from the 1780s to the 1970s, this collection affords the reader a revealing look at the shifting social and religious topography of American life. The significance of the Catholic imprint upon the American Frontiers and the role of the frontiers in the shaping of American Catholicity are revealed in an engaging manner through these sources which encapsulate the history of Catholics as they moved across successive Wests, from Kentucky to Hawaii and Alaska. We see how women religious, laity, bishops and priests; French, Anglo, Latinos and Native Americans create a new western religious identity, relate across various faith and cultural traditions to forge a unique Catholic peoplehood. This is a richly-textured documentary history of Catholicity in the United States amply footnoted and including a photo essay and bibliography containing reference to the most recent scholarship in the field. It is an excellent source for bringing to life the story of the church in this vast area and provides the reader with 221 pages of invaluable material!
