Beautiful, sends the message of Christ's wondrous birth
I'm so disappointed that this title is out of print! It is beautifully illustrated and simply written, conveying the excitement and wonder of the arrival of a very special new baby. The announcement of Mary, Joseph and the innkeeper that "The baby is coming!" bring home Jesus' humanity, while the same announcement by the angels, shepherds and wise men proclaims his divinity. The beautiful and simple words and illustrations are perfect for our three year old. The characters have the skin color of the people of the land of Jesus' birth. This accuracy is too often missing from children's books about Jesus.

A Beautiful Book
Tomie dePaola has done it again! Here is a beautifully written and illustrated children's book about a religious subject that is truly worth owning. The colorful artwork will interest younger children, and interesting facts and stories about the Blessed Mother will intrigue and excite older readers. DePaola treats his subject respectfully, but without excessive sentimentallity. The early style of the artwork and the inclusion of part of an antiphon in each section of the book ties "Mary, Mother of Jesus" to the long and honorable European Marian tradition.

Excellent!
This book is a great source for teaching young children about Mary. It is also great for teens, who may not want to sit and read much about Mary, but the Art draws them in and gets their interest and they can handle a page or two (before they know it, they're done!). I was surprised by this while I was teaching a teen confirmation class and had just put the book out for "kicks", it was one of the most used books that day!

Awesome in its simplicity
This short book, in its telling of Mary's story, inspired me to read further on the subject. Even though few actual facts are documented on Mary's life, this book emphasizes Mary's faith and intuition, not in a theological way, but as a woman anywhere in the world of any religion might react given the unusual circumstances. I found it well worth reading and gave copies to my friends.

MidWest Book Review
As I held Ms. Sawyer's book, My Name Is Mary, in my hands, I wondered what I would find between the covers. I believe in Mary as the Mother of Jesus, respect her and honor her. Sometimes I have almost felt envy that she was chosen by God for such a wonderful destiny. I wondered how Ms. Sawyer would handle a subject on a woman who has been as controversial as her son, Jesus.

The author pens her words as if written by Mary herself. Have you ever wondered what Mary's childhood was like? Did you ever think what emotions, fears or concerns she felt when she knew
she had the Son of God within her? When you have heard the sermons on the death of Christ, have you
ever shut your eyes and thought of the pain and suffering his mother had endured at the foot of that cross? And did you ever smile as you remember the first time she saw him after his death?
Her Resurrected Lord, her precious son!

Ms. Sawyer takes you on a journey inside the mind and heart of Mary. She answers these questions for you and more. She allows you to become one with a woman who many of us feel is so unapproachable, too holy to ever put her on the same level as we! Through the words of the author
you touch and feel the raw emotions of Mary, Mother of Jesus; yet a woman, just like any other, who laughed and cried, hoped and dreamed and placed her destiny in the hands of God.
Are her accounts of Mary's life fact or fiction? That is for you to decide!

My Name Is Mary is a story we are all familiar with, but Ms. Sawyer's account will make you stop, and celebrate ,the life of this exceptional woman. It is a tender story of a mother's love, told with her words, of her sorrows. joys, and her destiny.

It's really great! One of the Olsens' best! The story is terrific and gives a very realistic description of what dog camps are like. All the canine characters-Clue, Lacy, Scooter-are cute. If you like these books, you'll love this one!

Loved It!
I loved the case of the Game Show Mystery! It is really good, it is one of my favorite books in the series! Here is a summary of the book. Mary Kate and Ashley have just won a chance to play on their favorite game show Double Trouble. They are really excited, but when they get there they have yet another case to crack. Someone seems detirmened to make sure Mary Kate and Ashley lose. Mary Kate and Ashley have to figure out who is causing all the trouble before it is too late! I hope you decide to read this book! It is great!

My favorite "New Adventures" book!
This book wasn't like other "New Adventures" book. The Case of the Game Show Mystery actually had an interesting story line.Plus, what made it a good read was that it was both fictitious but realistic in a way. This book is about when Mary-Kate & Ashley are picked to be contestants in their favorite TV show, "Double Trouble". But there is someone who wants them to lose...BAD. Well, that's all I can say;cuz if I say more, I'll give you too many clues that when you'll be reading it, you'll have the mystery solved before the famous Trenchcoat Twins have! :-)

Touching story of a life-long love of music!
First of all, I want to thank the other reviewer of this book, who tells us that this is a TRUE STORY! That makes it even more special.

Today I'm writing reviews of 4 picture books about children playing the piano. But this one is by far the best. The main character is Anna, who at the beginning of the book is reflecting back on her life. You follow Anna's love of music from the time she was a child into old age. I love how the author and illustrator depict Anna's long train ride to Boston for her piano lessons.

As Anna grow up, she gets married and is shown playing the piano with a baby on her lap. After her children are grown and her husband has passed away, she's still enjoying playing the piano.

This book as really warmed THIS piano teacher's heart! See my other reviews for other books about children playing piano - but be sure to buy THIS ONE! The illustrations are just perfect too!

Happy reading!

A true story
Anna (not her real name) , in real life, is my great aunt - my grandmother's sister. I have been in "anna's" home many times and have many fond memories. "Uncle Luther" is the minister that married my mother and father in Old North Church in Wilmot, New Hampshire. My Grandfather was the president of the "Grange" for a while. I recall clearly going to the town dances in the Grange Hall where "Anna" played. "Anna" passed away years ago - but, thanks to Mary Lyn Rae, her story will live on for generations to come.

Thank you, Mary Lyn Rae, for keeping this story alive.

Absolutely charming stories that are good for the soul.
Upon the first read, I was actually disappointed with this book, mainly because it wasn't what I had expected it to be. But I went back to it and fell in love with it. I have read these stories again and again. So simple yet sophisticated. They are gentle, loving, warm, feel good stories that remind you to celebrate the joy of living. I return to this book when I feel down and it always brightens my spirit. It has remained a constant favorite since the early 1990's.

peace & magic
I had the pleasure to work with Andrea Carlisle as a student, and her very sincere personality shines throughout the pages of this book. Lazy LaRue and Pubah dance liltingly and gaze at the world with one another, one foot slightly in reality but always light-heartedly. These are two women who really love their lives, and through deceptively simple description and dialogue (the characters sneak up on you with subtle epiphanies on existence!), you learn to perhaps appreciate your own world more. I do dearly reccomend this well-loved book------ it is peaceful, loving, and a delight.

Perfect for bedtime!
I'm so glad to see this book still in print! This was a favorite "Bedtime Storytime" book in our public library when it first came out...and the story bears out that love is stronger than adversity, longer-lasting than physical beauty, and, in the end, the rewards of love far outweigh vanity and pride. A sweet and funny book for all ages, especially for those with a favorite pair of pajamas that are put on the clothesline to dry!

Give this book to someone you love
I am delighted that this book is back in print! It is an engaging story illustrated with gorgeous watercolors. Rosebud is a rather refined nightgown, and is not impressed at first with Red Flannel, the pair of long johns that adores her. How her opinion of him changes and her respect for him grows is a story that parallels many a human love. Their deep commitment to each other is a lesson in lasting love. This book would be a lovely wedding present.

He loves it!
Our baby LOVES Roxie and Bo. This is an adorable story which captivates him again and again. When we try to read other stories to him, he closes the book and grabs for Roxie and Bo. He never moves when we read it to him; he sits quietly and listens intently. It's amazing!

Baby's favorite book!
This is our 4 month old's favorite book. She instantly smiles when she sees the cover. The illustrations are simple enough for her to focus on and the colors are vibrant. The pop ups are facinating and make for a varied presentation that keeps interest. The story is simple allowing for reader embelishment and each page builds upon the next. We are on-line now to purchase other titles by Mary Murphy.
