The "most powerful," motivating, self awareness book yet!!!
This book took me from inside myself, made me stand outside my own awareness, and look at my life. I look at life differently. We all have growing to do, this book will grown you up. I recommend "God Will Teach Me To Fly" to the person that has everything, except self-love. In hopelessness, distrust, anguish, then eating, drinking and sleeping pain, after that life, there is more. I'm glad to know there is life after death. Praise be to God! G. Williams, Indian

The Incredible Russells
Swananoa is nestled in Virginia and is a place that expresses what the Russells were all about. "God will work with you but not for you" really tells the story. Become familar with both Lao and Walter. Not only are they gifted writers but painters and sculpturer's. Lao sculputuer of Jesus is the first to show strength in the neck. Walters "elements of earth" is beyond words. Their joint writings should be in every library. Swanano is a place that needs to be experienced. My first experience was in 1980 and it still stirs excitment in me today.

One of the BEST!
After reading this book, I, for the first time, had confidence in my own inherent healing power! The authors do a fabulous job explaining the various options available to deal with many common illnesses. In great detail, they describe how to use a variety of alternative remedies, so that you are empowered to actually try them. Better still, they have created a healing kit, which can be purchased, so you have all the basic remedies you need to treat your families most common ailments. The section called Supporting the Healing Process is extremely powerful! Here the authors discuss the importance of the caregiver and the principles of care for deeper healing, including: caring for the senses, nutrition, fluids, warmth, rest, baths, touch, and healing objects. A simple , well organized and inspiring book. Consider reading this to raise your own consciousness about health and healing.

This book makes me think about how I have been living
Lots of funny examples of such a serious topic...psychology and learning how to live. The chapters point to areas of our lives in which, if we concentrate on, can help to improve the quality of each and every day. Some of these topics I was aware of, but Mark has an unusual way of presenting the information.
I have recommended it to my closest girlfriends so we can talk about some of the ideas.
THe pictures were an interesting addition to the chapters.
This is a good book for people that think they are neurotic. Like he says in the beginning, maybe we are not as messed up as the culture portrays us to be.

Girl finds pride in herself and her heritage
I love this book and so does my six year old son. Very sensitively deals with namecalling. The young girl's grandfather sees that she is upset and by telling her a native amercian tale helps her find pride in her heritage and herself. Weaves together the present day story of the girl with the folktale very well.

Forgotten masterpiece
It's too bad that this book is out of print. Probably it stopped selling because of its title -- people must have assumed that it was only relevant for the Nixon era. Not so! The book is valuable today for the evocation of the early part of that time (especially the summer of 1968), but more than that, it is a masterful analysis of that collection of shared intellectual assumptions that make up a great deal of American political (and other) impulses -- specifically, that set of post-Lockean interpretations of social, moral, economic and political life which fall under the rubric of "liberalism". Wills details the connection between Nixon and this background, and the results are far-ranging. Many of the great American assumptions about life are implicated and their mythical foundations revealed: equality of economic opportunity, electoral "mandates", democracy via fair elections in countries that do not have them, fair competition of ideas in academia, and others. Wills leaves no stone unturned. The book deserves to be reprinted again.

Original review above was July 1998; Below added Jan 2003:
Hurrah! It's back in print! Get your copy before it disappears again!

I should have mentioned that, in addition to the fun of watching Wills dismantle the superstructure of liberalism, the book provides great pleasure through its style. Wills writes non-fiction better than most poets write sonnets.
